Your shirt is all u Gary!! Lol, luv it!!
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Good morning Mel and Gary, you two are doing fantastic, your property and new home look fantastic. Good work guys. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Good Morning! Love the shirt Gary❤
That back deck is going to be so nice. Garry do you get headaches from all that thinking?
Good morning. Lots of work ahead but it will be so nice to sit out on your roof covered deck and look at what all you've accomplished.
That view behind you is just picture perfect!
It's a wonderful feeling to have things go ""according to plan!"" And Gary...That's the best Tee shirt saying!!
And humorous as well. Thumbs up everyone!!! Me southern AZ.
Good morning 🌞 going to be nice deck (one day at a time) like your shirt Gary 😉 Have a nice day 🙏🌷🪻🇺🇲
Good afternoon Mel and Gary
I've done all kinds of carpentry work since I was 16. Many years ago. You all are doing excellent work. You take your time and figure out how to get it done. Your structures are sound. You like me, when something needs a 2X4 brace I use a 2x6. Can't wait to see it all done.
Gary and Mel I left a message on one of your videos on SLR Within the last 4 or 5 videos on the only way to properly build that deck roof and still have a pitch for removing water/ice/snow. If you add your rafters just at the soffit out to your rim joyce in that short of a distance you’ll not have enough fall /pitch. If you guys don’t do it the way I said in my comment and tie it into you roof rafters on the existing roof and get it higher up on the roof and get a higher roof pitch. Then you get a big snowfall and get a foot or 2 of slow laid on top of that roof you may have problems. So the proper way to do that is how I explained it is tied into the rafters of the roof above with more pitch and sheath it as part of the existing roof. But I’m telling ya it needs to be tied into the roof higher up the roof with longer rafter boards & it also will need some vertical braces down close to the soffit and then sheathe the whole thing all as one roof. But from your soffit area on the back of the House to the outer rim joyce of the deck roof you’ll never get enough fall/pitch for a heavy snowfall. Not at the height you now got your rim joyce header board already set on the 4x4’s now you won’t.
Go back and read my comment explaining that and try to let your Brain Make sense of how I explained it. Yeah those longer roof rather boards to go further up the roof are gonna cost ya more money to do the job properly to obtain that proper pitch. But to have done it proper would’ve required that you wouldn’t already built the back deck and had your header Rim Joyce in place like you do now before you sheathed the back half of the house. Then you could’ve had Triangle Trusses made to tie into the existing roof trusses that could’ve went from existing roof Trusses & then extended down & covered over your back deck. But sense you didn’t the proper way to achieve the proper pitch is do it the way I said in that comment on SLR.
GARY THIS IS CORRECT, WE OWNED A ROOFING COMPANY FOR 35+ YEARS. YOU ARE GOOD AT RESEARCHING, CHECK IT OUT
Sounds like a great plan! Thank you for showing us your thought process. As always, you guys are constantly improving your homestead and I love going on this adventure with you. Love from the Heartland. 💕
I would get the deck covered first thing before i started on rafters for the deck cover. I'm 75 and would brake bones trying to walk on 2+4 and strips of plywood the fall never hurts but the sudden stop will shake up your supper. Good videos enjoy watching Stay Safe all of you
Morning! Looking good. Liking Gary’s shirt!!!
Thanks for the update guys
Gary love your shirt. I'm glad you got your delivery. Please be safe. Good idea making the template. ❤❤
Thanks for the update!!!😊🎉❤
Enjoyed watching and thanks. Love y'all
Exciting things guys.

Good morning Mel & Gary! Love these chat’s! I heard every word you guy’s said in last real talk so…it is all good sweety! Love Gary’s shirt🫢Gary has gotten so comfortable on video & he explained is OCD brain( like mine)process wonderfully 🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
It was fine I could hear you without any problems yesterday
We all know Gary can Mathin'!! LOL
Ok hang in there guys 😃💕
Doing great. Hugs
Looks good and a great concept.
God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
Wow, that is a _lot_ of Zip board and lumber.
Great video Mel a Gary.love watching things being created.Love that you are point on. With your measurements. I will be watching for some more great footage. As always you both take care. Catch you all on the next one.byeeee;
Thanks for the update. Im curious, and maybe you have said or are not spilling the beans, but what type and color siding are you using? If you can't say I understand. That's a lot of wood! Can't wait to see the projects. Get it, guys! Love ya! Karen ❤👍🏼
Good morning Coffee
concrete without stone is basically mortar. A bag of portland and a few shovels full of fine sand is what the masons around here use to lay block and brick, etc
Morning Gary and Mel❤
Good morning you guys. It's good to see you this morning
For safety you need something on the deck floor. If somebody gets hurt you will wish that you cover the deck with something you can walk on .
Exactly... proper footwear should be something to consider as well.
Hehe like the t-shirt, good afternoon, Oh didnt realize it is that late. Time to make dinner. It was a good live yesterday 👍🖐️
Good Morning 😃
Good morning Mel and Gar
Good morning y'all! I still understood what you were saying with the sound. Be safe and have a great day! ❤ 😊
Gary instead of using such long studs to build up a roof over your porch should had removed that facial board extend the rafters along the roof two feet back bolted to each rafter and all you needed was to plywood that porch roof then cover up the underneath of your porch
Love your shirt Gary.
Hi Gary, just thinking over your rafter. I favor more solid connection with the roof trusses, by that I mean to penetrate the roof sheeting to push the verandah rafter through and then bolt it to a truss. Sure that means a potential leak point but you guys used that black sealing tape on sheet joins so why not use it to cover once the rafter is fixed, to close of the gap asap. That way of fixing means that you can have a sleeper verandah roof pitch to enable quicker snow removal. Just not comfortable with your approach, still I will watch and see. It’s always interesting to see creative solutions to building problems. Stay safe guys.
Food for thought...you already have the overhang over your doors and windows back there. It won't interfere. If a wind should come and take off deck roof, you would have added protection with the existing overhang and save you a lot of work.
If you’ve got an old weed sprayer they are good for spraying your stain or Thomson water sealer.
❤
Good Morning ❤❤
Hey guys.. saw another RUclipsr who bought the same brand Dark Walnut as you have, and they didn’t like it because it looked almost completely black. They searched and bought another brand…. So just wanted to remind you to test it first. (you probably were going to that anyway) Excited for your progress…. Hope y’all have a safe, productive day….
Gary, use the black tape under the rafters
Love the shirt Gary. its cement not concrete mix.
Hi Mel and Gary, I don't know if you have gutters over their in the USA. If you do have gutters, why don't you put a gutter at the edge of your main roof and sloop the roof of your covered deck, slooping back to the gutter, it's just an idea that could save you money 💰 💰🇬🇧🤝🇺🇲
The sound is back to normal. Love your shirt, Gary, it's so you, lol ❤ Question, why would you NEED to cut off the overhang?
It would look weird and be a useless thing under another roof.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
cement is the binder with aggerate and water makes concrete !!!!!
If you put a plumb line on the rafter in it's place you can check and see if the 3 pitch is correct with the speed square. Doesn't look like a 3 pitch. You could add the length with the 16 footers. Just a way to double check if pitch is addiquit.
Less talk more work!
Says who?
@@RealTalkwithSLR Jesse I’m just saying that who
Are you gonna cover the portion of the ice & water shield that'll be under the deck roof with anything?
Good morning
You might have to cover it with plastic sheet don’t want it to get to wet ❤️👍
Gary, love the shirt. Where did you get it? If you could let me know, I would buy 2 of them for a best friend and myself. We have the same type of OCD.😅❤❤❤
👍👍
I would put your rafters up with the overhangs in place. I don't think you really have to remove them. May save you a huge headache.
Are you guys going to put outdoor porch lights on the walls for the deck? I didn’t see any. Just curious! ❤
Whst video do yall talk about sunroom. I guess ive missed it
Good morning my peeps
Greetings from Northeast Ohio. What happened was…..Bruce was baying yesterday.
Hi guys
Don't forget to put drip channels in the horizontal 2x6 that's on the roof so they don't turn into dams for any leaks that occur. The will allow water to exit at the bottom.
Are you going to use the zip board for the deck or the roof over the deck?
❤ goodmorning beautiful people 💕 goodmorning ❤
Every where I have lived, 10 percent chance, we got slammed, 20 percent chance, we didn't get hit. All other percentages it was flip a coin.
I watched your videos yesterday and heard you fine.
👍🙋♂️❤️
Have a great day Now you gotta let Gary talk
Listen lady.. you comment this same thing almost every day. It's always something to poke at Mel while trying to suck up to Gary. You're not winning any points here. In fact it's quite annoying.
At what point was he not "allowed " to talk?
Get over it.
Good morning guys hope you guys have a wonderful good day today. Enjoy your day today guys ❤
Can you put a piece of zip tape on the bottom of the board?
You 2 are kinda getting ahead of yourself try to finish 1 project then go to the next outher then that great show
Sometimes you zig when you should zag but it still works out. 👍
Don't forget you can download the audio from the mics when that happens and synch it up!
Hello gary an mel 👍
Why don’t you take that extra zip board and temporarily attach it to the deck floor until you get the roof done. This would make it safer.
💪❤️👍
👍🤞
Also, are you going collect the water? I know you have a well, but with the amount of roof you have, the runoff will be extensive.
🇳🇴👍👍
Hey guys, I’m just wondering why you weren’t putting the deck boards down rather than those plywood sheets. Wouldn’t it be easier to walk around and build your patio roof if you had solid ground to walk on?
Easy answer is money. Delegating cash flow as it is necessary at the time. Right now, that would not be the wise thing to spend the money on when we have other more pressing things to worry about first. The zip boards work great. Comfortable enough for me to skip on and I'm not good with heights. 🤗
It will All happen in good timing. Day by day, little by little.
@@SimpleLifeReclaimed - ooooo I get that! Thanks for taking the time to explain. I so enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.❤️
Cement, not concrete
Why are you trimming the roof overhang? I would leave it. Wouldn't it look odd on the ends where the angle I? Just wondering.
It really should come off. It would just be a useless weird eave that serves zero purpose under another roof. No one has that.
oh yea mel ask gary why todd hasnt got your alls cabin finished yet???lol why todd why???
Totally random question... Mel, is there a story behind your choker, or is it just Cuz you like it? Either way is cool, I was hoping for a story though.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 ITS GETTING EXCITING!!💚💚🫶🏻
This video is on Point!
