Great video. I decided to do it myself after trying to go to the local bike shop. Guy insults my bike first thing (ride1up core5) and then says you cant buy spokes so he has to custom make them. I pointed out that you can buy them and I have the link and he started arguing with me and telling me how he knows way more about it than me. So I left. Ordered them, and will do it myself. Wheels were the only reason I ever went to bike shops as I just do everything else myself, so it will be good to check that last box. Way too many bike shops are completely ignorant about hub motors. Currently hub motor bikes are over 1/3 of the entire USA bike market, and every single shop I have been to acts like nobody ever buys hub motor bikes. Its crazy.
He was just arrogant and angry.. because you didnt buy his bikes😂 His bike business is over... when they lose an argument, they will say "i have 20 years experience" in bikes... Tell him shut up already😂 and ill never return😂. And leave a bad review in googlemaps so everyone sees his bad behavior against customers
Broke 3 on my belt-drive e-bike (with mid-drive motor) during first 90 miles. Laced 'em back in, tensioned everything up, released stress and strain, and am back riding like new! I think e-bike builders may tend to send 'em out with too little spoke tension, so CHECK YOURS!
Same happend to me on my Fido m21 3 spokes went before I noticed you start hearing a creak on the plastic rim at that point. Helpful video i kinda figured how to do it anyway but helpful to confirm 👍 Fiido good brand actually they give you lots of spokes in a set and most parts easy to get and they generally helpful from my exp.
@@Free__Speechyeah a lot more stress goes through them though it’s the same with the brake pads which I generally have to change yearly. Tougher wheel would increase bike weight and prob put more stress on motor so I’d rather replace the spokes.
I break rear spokes quite regularly for some reason. Always at the hub end. I've found that so far the nipples have always been in good shape and able to be reused. So I leave the wheel and tire complete and full of air. I've always been able to get the new spoke in and rethread it into the used nipple in the rim. I don't know if my spokes are poor quality or it's something else. If I can find high quality high strength spokes I would change out all of them.
Amazing video even for a beginner like me which inspired to replace my own fat bike’s spokes and 4 of them at that saving me lots of money. Thank you. 🙏
Amazing as always with your videos. I have a 2019 RCS and I broke one on the rear. I ride this bike hard here in Colorado, mostly in the hills. I have to replace mine and then will have to take it to the LBS to do the truing as both wheels feel wobbly.
Thank you for the nice comment, I appreciate it very much. I've ridden some trails in Colorado on my dual sport and am amazed at the beautiful scenery you have out there. I'm a bit envious!
It does kind of bring back that youthful feeling, doesn't it, Ricky. That's certainly part of the fun for me. Although I could never have afforded an E-Bike at that age! LOL.
Loved the video in the shop they wanted to charge me 65 to replace 4 spokes!!! So glad I found this I'm gonna try it ...but ..What's the size of the spoke on a rear 26"? And the thickness I don't have a fat wheel just regular ancheer MT3 orange cheap bike... thank you
So im gonna need a spoke wrench and a tire valve remover and some new spokes. Where should I order all of that? my old spokes are loose on the inside of the rim. and making such a loud annoying crinkling noise. So im gonna need new spoke nipples too im not sure where to get.
I would ride it if I was a bit lighter. I'm towards the high end of my bike's capacity. That said, I wouldn't ride my bike if I had the same problem. They are easy to fix yourself though. -Tom
I went to a bike shop that services E-Bikes, Charles. I bought 10 of each size, front and back. Now I just keep them on hand. Had to change one out a few weeks ago. You can also order them online.
Thanks Alan. I ordered my Sapim spokes through this company. www.prowheelbuilder.com/ At the same time, I found a bike shop that was about 50 minutes away and they work on ebikes. I went there and he sold me a few to get me up and running. As long as you know the size and gauge, I think any bike shop should be able to help you. Hope that helps. -Tom
Thanks soo much I’m going to try it👍 can I ask if all e bikes have the same tyre setup? I.e the same grey sleeve? My bike has Kendra wheels also, so fingers crossed 🤞
Most wheels come with an inner protective sleeve to prevent damage to the tube from spokes. Either grey rubber like that one, or plastic. If they are tubeless wheels then they may come taped instead of having a movable sleeve, but thats unlikely on a hub motor bike.
I knew I had to say that a lot just to increase the watch time from your laptop! I went to a bike shop about an hour away to pick up extra spokes. They work on E-Bikes and had exactly what I needed.
@@evolutionaryTom Lucky you. None of the shops in my town are carrying ebike parts yet. The short heavier gauge nowhere to be found, but I ordered of amazon at about 70 cents per spoke/nipple in a pack of 36. This my first ebike and first broken spokes in a long long time. I rode a ton though, 2800km in the first 4 months owning it. Much fun!! - Cheers
@@joeshmoe7967 Same here. Racked up about 3000km in 4.5 months now the rear wheel has 4 broken spokes. I've ordered 36. And this video is great to see how to fix them.
This is what I did. I went to the manufacturer’s website and looked at which replacement spoke they said would fit my bike. Then I called a local shop that dealt with E-Bikes and they said they had plenty of extra spokes. I went there and purchased a dozen of each size, since my front and back wheels have different spokes on them.
Here is the link showing the size of the spokes for the front wheel. www.juicedbikes.com/products/ripcurrent-sapim-front-spoke-and-nipples And here is the link for the rear wheel spokes www.juicedbikes.com/products/ripcurrent-sapim-rear-wheel-spoke-nipple
Thanks for this video. It was the inspiration to find the solution to replacing the broken spoke on my ebike. I have a 1000w motor, which is about twice bigger than what you got in this bike. So my spokes are 173 mm. Being shorter spokes it is a bit tricky to get it in position in the rim hole. I ended up using raw force to slide it in position. The spoke ended up bending like L shape but it was no big deal. I simply bend it back to the original straight shape once I had it in the rim hole. 👍
Lucky based on your 'weave' of the spokes. On my ebike there is no way to get it in place without undoing a few other spokes. The short ebike spokes cannot bend enough to make it work. I also have to remove the brake disc as I need to weave from the other side. That is not a big deal just an extra step. In general not difficult just more time consuming depending on the weave and the spokes.
I would complete the repair by checking (evening) the tension on all the spokes, making them all give the same note when "plucked". If you don't do that, inevitably spokes will continue to break. I check the tension on mine about every 500 miles.
I agree that spoke tension needs checked routinely on fat bikes. This is especially a problem on trike wheels and hub motors. Trike wheels see lateral G forces from turning, bike wheel don’t so much. Short spokes on hub motors have less stretch so they do not hold proper tension as well.
I question whether you need to touch the tire itself. If you buy a Chinese replacement spoke of the same gauge, the old nipple can be used with the new spoke. In this case, you simply unscrew the broken spoke out of the old nipple and bow the new spoke until it will fit into the old nipple. You can then screw it on.
I rotate my LCD display to get it out of the way and just let it sit on the seat and the handlebars, like we did when we were kids. I'd love a bike stand but for the times I would use it, I'm not sure it would be worth having to store it. My space is limited and I try to avoid clutter.
Yeah I went from mag wheels to spoked wheels. Tempting to go back in the future. I've had 4 months without any broken spokes. Now I have 4 broken in 1 week.
I'd take your broken one to a shop and they'll tell you. Also, you can look up the specs of your bike at the manufacturer's website, or email their customer service to find out.
