Thrift flipping is a tricky one as the gentrification of charity shopping (that's what we call thrifting in the UK) is a big issue for lower income families.
*very* tricky- it makes it so that almost all quality pieces (not just name brands, as lots of vintage unknown brands are upsold on depop, etc.) are inaccessible to people for whom the charity shops were CREATED in the first place.

True, but it's important to note that up to 84% of clothing (as of 2019) that are donated to thrift stores will actually just get thrown away and end up in landfills which is terrible for our environment. There is *always* enough for those who come to thrift stores because they can't afford to shop retail. Shopping secondhand and flipping items is extremely sustainable.
@@Taylluna I'd say just to find a balance. For example, I would recommend not buying essentials, such as winter coats, if there appears to not be an abundance of them. Same thing with buying essentials in larger sizes, as they are often not as accessible. I'd just be mindful of those that can't afford to buy clothing new, and making sure you don't make it hard for them to find necessities.

In Canada we have TFSA (tax free savings account) that basically is an investment account that invests in a portfolio of stocks, mutual bonds, etc etc and I started that when I was 18 and put 400 per month into it (I'm 22 now). Its now at 30K and growing! Invest now guys!
Another benefit your employer might offer is a Health Savings Account. It is funded with pre-tax income, like a 401(k) and GROWS tax-free. Oh, and you can invest from your contributions. Plus, you can pay qualified medical expenses, without tax penalties at any time. I've been participating in my employer sponsored plan for a year and have a little over $2K in it. But don't confuse a Flexible Spending Account with this. FSAs have a lot of the same benefits, except you can't invest from the funds and MUST spend the contributions or face taxes at the end of the year. Use it or lose it, basically.

SUCH a great video Elena!! Can very much vouch for making 4x+ profit from flipping clothes 😉And you were awesome on the podcast, really enjoyed that episode 💜
I need advice! I have a $1000 emergency fund, no credit card debt, but I owe $28,000 in student loans, and I’m saving to get an apartment with my boyfriend when my roommate moves out next year, and I also want to open a Roth IRA because I know the sooner you invest the better. So what should I prioritize? Should I try to pay off my student debt before investing? What percent should I save vs pay off debt vs invest?
My finance degree didn’t even offer classes in personal finance, just corporate finance and markets. My university had one elective class on it lol and I didn’t even know about it until my last semester 🤷🏼♀️

I really enjoy all of the finance videos you’ve been doing and think you give a lot of really great advice, however, I disagree with the promotion of reselling thrifted clothing. Folks in lower earning households deserve to be able to wear great clothing that’s fashionable and this is often one of the few accessible ways they are able to do so. There are so many other ways to creatively make money, you mentioned a few other great one! Anyway, just some food for thought for anyone considering thrift reselling.
Thank you so much for this video! My question is with the index or mutual fund how do you assure that your money isn't going towards companies that you don't support?
You can look up a fund on morningstar.com and look at the portfolio of the top ~20 holdings. But other than that you can't usually see the entire portfolio unless you handpick it yourself. Otherwise you could easily just pick a fund in a certain sector where you wouldn't have to worry about that conflict.
Love to see Graham's tips come to life. This video is awesome, got me to subscribe and watch all the ads in their entirety, and clicked through. hopefully, your CPM will go up :)
I put my Roth ira into fidelity because there's lots of index funds with no minimums which is great when I only have a few dollars to invest each month

Thank you for you videos, your explanations, especially with flowers are easy to understand. Wish I knew english better. If you could do more videos with simple examples ( flowers) about complicated investment things, you’d have million million subscribers 🌸
This is great advice. I am already doing a couple of these but you had a lot of gems which I am gonna try and do. Thanks!!!

Loving your channel! I just started learning all things personal finance the beginning on 2020. I have been investing into a Roth IRA since I was 18. I wish I had put more money in, but I got the right habit down!
love these videos! they always catch me when im about to do a dumb purchase so i guess its a sign from the universe to go and invest that money somewhere else
SUCH a great video Elena!! Can very much vouch for making 4x+ profit from flipping clothes 😉And you were awesome on the podcast, really enjoyed that episode 💜
Thank you Elena for your financial advice. Your videos have been so educational and inspiring!

Thank you Elena! Extremely helpful video :))
I was just thinking last night how I need (to learn) to invest!! Thank you!
I love these finance videos! Hope your 2021 is off to a great start! 💗
thanks!! Same to you
Wow, I loved how you broke down everything! I hope to see more content like this towards investing :)

My finance degree didn’t even offer classes in personal finance, just corporate finance and markets. My university had one elective class on it lol and I didn’t even know about it until my last semester 🤷🏼♀️

Yessss Elena loving the finance content!!
I love these kinds of video's. Also your editing is so satisfying 🥰💕
Thanks for watching

I put my Roth ira into fidelity because there's lots of index funds with no minimums which is great when I only have a few dollars to invest each month

Love your investment videos! I'd love to hear your advice on how to start building credit and which credit cards you'd recommend to young adults in their 20s!
Daniella, be careful that's not her account that replied.
Can you do a video on different HYSAs?
