    Vinny has blown me away so many times and all him playing so differently in many times I've heard him and seen him at a clinic where he was talking and praising God so much but it was totally different and not what I thought it would be and he had that white set that he had just used on his solo album with karizm?? I can't spell but it was his first clinic that he had done in like 9;or 10 years he said i believe and I was in the first row but it was hard to see him and the stage was high and i didn't like that snare he was using still and he was humming songs like from joni Mitchell's early album and sting stuff but it was nothing like the clinics I here on here???? Make sense and it was alot of God stuff like i said and I pray and try to have faith but easier said than done!!! But it was a Vinny clinic but nowhere near these wich is and was fine !! I love alot of music and drumms but Vinnie IS a freak of Nature period like tony was and Z
    Buddy speed but there is a guy named Barry bangem out i don't know if I spelled it correctly but Hi Barry if you ever se this its your old friend chry and remember i met you at triloc gurtru,s band and this gifted genius he is a computer guy but he made DVD,s and yes i gave some out snd had to bug Dave Weckl back then ,,20 yrs ago and Barry can play any thing that buddy Rich can play no shit i we all agreed ,my friend,d and i ,finai weckl did take the video i had to beg him but no lie all songs and all his soly but i love him and i love Vinny to death period Barry deserves a break on doing something ,!¡! God do your will for him

    He’s a nut case

    Thanks for posting this. These clinics are gold. I wish I could see it because I don’t really get what he means. He is playing a drag on the left and accenting the right somewhere?

    • @BeTheDrum
      @BeTheDrum  7 лет назад +4

      My understanding is this: he means adding strokes on the left hand (snare) after the accent (also on the left). This would be like a Moeller stroke (M4 or M3), but he ghosts the strokes after the accent. He demonstrates it at 0:35 and specifically mentions the left hand. For it to work, the dragged strokes must be in sync with the beat's subdivision. When Vinnie plays with music, I feel he carefully applies this to either hand, depending on the desired effect.

      Be The Drum I see, interesting. So would that stroke be accent ghost ghost in the space of three consecutive 16th notes, say oh the 4, e, +? Or would the accent be an 8th? I’m guessing the former as the three strokes sound close together.

      +Jonathan Curtis I agree, in that case it sounds like 16ths.

    Utterly ridiculous as always from the maestro!

    Can someone please explain what he means by 'dragging' with his left hand?

    • @BeTheDrum
      @BeTheDrum  7 лет назад +10

      +Matt Markus: instead of a single stroke for the back beat, allow the stick to rebound a few times after the main stroke (that's what Vinnie calls dragging) -- ideally the rebound strokes should sync with the overall beat and it subdivision so it sounds good, but IMO anything goes depending on the effect you desire

      Matt Markus I think his head is running too fast and his body does not keep up 😅

      Drag as in rudimentary drags. Doubles typical in a fast subdivision followed typically by an accent that’s in a slower subdivision
      Ex. rrL. rr being very quick (32nds) then the L being a slower note (16ths). And or he is just doing small drag notes with accents between. It’s just rudiments.

      ghosting...letting it just drop in motion (drag)... but his ghosting is insane. it's like percaro said he just let's the hand flutter on the snare when he plays that Rosanna beat.

    Playing fast doesn't mean you're good it means you are in a hurry , technique will not make a great drummer out if anyone it's not car racing

      who says race car drivers are in a hurry? to go fast you gotta be smooth
