    If skill gap is big enough, then skill can beat anything. It's when gap is small from one side or another, when physical factors really play a role.

      Yeah its really tough to score a single point when the opponent is 10cm taller and knows how to keep a distance (play to his advantage)

      One of the reasons flint locks took over fencing via duels was a pound for pound factor.
      It allowed older men and smaller men a more even ground

    As a 5'3 senior fencer I'm quite good because I practiced for more than 10y and did some competitions but... but when I'm facing some 6'2 opponents or much more taller with the same skill level... is like I'm a toy against a colossal titan...

    I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer is bragging about he can beat all the members in his Karate class, and we find out he's the only adult in a class full of little kids. "You don't need Karate. You can just wring his neck!"

    Ayy we love to see Australian Fencing. We need to see more of this.

    • @joecompany
      @joecompany Год назад +4

      Gl finding it. Fencing in Australia is hella underfunded. This was the QLD state cadet/u15 champs. Most state comps have like max of 16 people whilst national comps have like 50 max. Epee is the biggest event and much to your dismay, sabre is the least popular with some comps not having enough people to have a comp in sabre. Australia had only 1 world champion, who happens to be the guy on the rights father, and no Olympic medalists. The guy on the right is 12, was 11 at the time, and the guy on the left is 17 I think. Both fencers are amazing and lovely people.

      @@samthestoryman3757 Yeah it was him.
      He is an amazing fencer especially since he won cadets at such a young age. Tbf most cadet comps only gather 8-10 people depending on the weapon, I think men's sabre got 4 people (this is a state not national) but even still I was a horrible fencer at 12 he has a bright future ahead in fencing I think.
