    Specificity is the name of the game. You want to get better at something? Do more of that something. When I used to powerlift I learned that if I wanted to get a bigger bench I needed to bench more. For me, I find this works in more than just exercise, training, and sport. Reading, my career, etc.

    • @elliotendures
      @elliotendures 5 месяцев назад +1

      As a former powerlifter, this. I made the most progress when I squatted three times a week, benched four times a week and pulled twice a week and just ignored calves, etc.
      paying for that now as a runner 😂

    Congratulations on 10K subs. Your channel has been growing so quickly. I'm believing you about the Skyward X because you are definitely voting with your feet. I wonder if they will drop the price later, like Asics did with the Superblast.
    I agree about the forefoot flattening out in the Mach 6. I think it's a nice moderate run shoe. However, I don't get that in the Hyperion Max, which is also supercritical EVA and has just gotten softer over 250 miles for me. I know you're excited about the Hyperion Max 2 and we have the SC Trainer v3 coming later this year, too. I'm going to want a rockered high-performance trainer later in the year.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I'm curious since you're a lighter wearing runner - is there a run distance you start to feel that flattening in the Mach 6? I.e., it feels good for you up until 10/12 miles?

    • @kuriosites
      @kuriosites 5 месяцев назад

      @@supwell I prefer the Mach 6 for no more than 6-7 miles. I think I would choose something else for 10+. Also, I think it may not be exactly the same as it was out of the box. The other factor, and you alluded to this on your stroller run, is that I'm a much slower runner than you so, even though I'm lighter, I probably put pressure differently on my shoes. I ran in the Mach 6 yesterday and the Hyperion Max today and there is no flattening or bottoming out feel on the Hyperion Max. I wonder if this has implications for the SCF on the Skyward X.
      Any chance you will be putting more miles on the Valkyrie Speedworks? The geometry on that shoe looks really similar to the Hyperion Max and Noosa Tri, both of which roll so nice, except the Speedworks is max-cushioned PEBAX. At 10K subs, you're nipping at the big boys now.

  • @markuscg1

    It would be interesting to get your take on comparing super shoes for the "normal" runner. Ones that might be best for people who aren't fast and mainly heelstrike. Maybe the NB SC Elite v4 versus Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 versus Saucony Endorphin Pro 4. Congrats on the 10K subscribers!

    46* is prime running remps. I ran the BMW half marathon last December in Dallas, it was 42* at start. I had tights/shorts/tank on, and it felt absolutely amazing once the race started (waiting kinda sucked lol). Those cold temps really help keep your HR down since your body isn't overheating at all, even at HM paces.

    I feel you on the lifting. No sports background but went through hard times back in 2016 and the gym saved me when I found it. Got kinda big and it was fun and all but I picked up running in 2021. As I took it more and more serious, I couldn’t find time to balance both without one hurting the other. Either I was fatigue from the run and the lifts were bad. Or sore from lifts and would slow down runs. Eventually I’ve mostly moved from lifting. I still go once or twice a week to try and somewhat maintain. But yeah dropping about 25lbs of mass has bothered me some too. The confidence with the body appearance has faded. I always thought I didn’t care about how I looked but when it was gone, yeah I don’t know. Plus everyone asking if I’m “sick” because of the weight loss, I don’t know why anyone else cares but ya know. But I think this running journey is better for me and I feel happier and I’m getting better every single day and I wasn’t feeling that in the gym anymore. It’s better this way, for me. I just need to figure out how to lean out again a little. The amount of food you eat to maintain high mileage really filled in all them muscle striations haha.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  5 месяцев назад +1

      Have you tried bodyweight HIIT workouts? I was in the "best" aesthetic shape of my life when I was doing those a few times a week, plus running. Wasn't running everyday back then but prob 4 days a week with 3 days doing 30 to 45 minute bodyweight workouts and a bunch of push-ups. The Nike Training Club app has some good ones for free if you're interested. I also did intermittent fasting back then and was shredded but it just doesn't make sense for high mileage running

    • @kgunz4282
      @kgunz4282 5 месяцев назад

      @@supwell no, I haven’t but that’s a good idea to mix that in maybe a couple days a week. Didn’t even consider that. There’s no way I could do intermittent fasting anymore lol. I used to and it was effective. But I need all the food as soon as possible now haha. Weird balance

    Hey Yowana, would you say that the Skyward/Superblast/Cloudmonster Hyper fit into the same segment of Super Trainer/Long Distance/High Price/High Stack shoes, and performance-wise feel as equal competitors?

    • @supwell
      @supwell  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! And yes they're definitely the three main competitors - I'm curious if the sc trainer v3 will fit in there or be more similar to Boston 12/speed 4. But if those 3, Skyward X has been my favorite so far - feels like I get the most protection and speed assistance. I need to put some more miles on the cloudmonster hyper but I enjoyed that one as well too - it's just a little more traditional/standard feeling than the skyward x

    Hey man! Congratulations on the 10k!!With regard to the take workshop - do you ever try to get in any top line speed (a set of 100s or 200s flat out followed by a few VO2 max pace 800s)? I feel like I’ve noticed a pretty interesting training benefit from doing a true sprint/speed session once every other week or so and it’s something that marathoner’s tend to not have in their routine. It’s a little bit like going to the gym but with a seemingly more direct correlation to running performance also with a solid 2-3 mile warm up and cool down it’s not that low in terms of volume

    • @supwell
      @supwell  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! And no I haven't tried that yet but sounds like a nice build. I've done strides consistently but they're usually 5k pace maybe mile race pace, but not as fast as you're suggesting here. I wanna give this a shot - thanks for the suggestion

    • @crzyscorp
      @crzyscorp 5 месяцев назад

      @@supwell of course! It’s pretty wild - I started out doing like 3 or 4 x 100 as fast as I could possibly move with a full 4 min rest between each then taking a little longer before hitting some VO2 max 800s or Ks with jog recovery. After the 100s you’re way more toast than you’d ever expect. I also realized how underdeveloped I was as a sprinter (I still am but am trending faster) and have noticed performance improvements on threshold/tempo work

    I'm interested in this shoe...how is the fit? I wear a 14 in the NB Rebel V3 and V2, 14 as well in the EP2 and EP3 (although they feel a bit larger than the Rebels). Sometimes I'll too on two pairs of thin-ish socks to just make it fit better and avoid heel slip so I don't have to lace as tight...I'm right between a 13 and 14 in most brands, which makes ordering online very hard. If only these main companies made a 13.5, I'd be set for basically every single shoe out there.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  5 месяцев назад +1

      I was so excited when I saw they made these in 14 because superblast only
      goes to 13! I would go with the same size that fits you in the new balance and Saucony - I'm a 10.5 in those brands and went 10.5 here too. The fit is perfect

      Cielo X1 is lighter and bouncier with a more aggressive feeling from the rocker - skyward x has more stability and also a taller/more cushioned feel. • @supwell

      My top pick is the Saucony hurricane 24! It's like a softer and bouncier Bondi with just as much protection. It's my favorite shoe for walking right now and will give you lots of foam underfoot. I love the skyward X for running but the race foam and carbon fiber plate is overkill for me for walking.
