Please note that I’m a folk musician and fiddler, and I don’t consider myself a classical violinist. In my experience of the folk tradition, techniques tend to be somewhat informal, variable, and flexible, so take what I say with a grain of salt :) My thoughts on fiddling are based on my own personal musical experience. If you’re looking for more formal violin technique and instruction, there are other resources out there that are geared towards that!
These videos are not intended as a substitute for the advice of a medical professional (when it comes to any thoughts on techniques such as posture, hand placement, etc).
Happy fiddling, friends!
This is excellent. Love how you share the finger patterns.
I learned this in about an hour and haven't stopped playing it. Love this tune. Many thanks for the video !
I love you!!! You are just what i need right now , and i love your sense of humor!! I smile (big) through every lesson.
I’m an old guy; finally got to a place in my life where i can do some things for me. I want to be a fiddler. With your practical , sensible, basic, simple, fun , highly talented approach to teaching, i am encouraged, even excited. I know i can do this, with you as my teacher. Thank-you, thank-you, Thank-you!!! Sooo much!!! And I love you❤! Sorry, couldn’t help it. (Sue me!!😂). Ha ha! It just happened about half way through the first lesson.. life is crazy, and wonderful..
Wonderful use of dynamics. And everything perfectly in tune.....
I try... some days are better than others!
Liz, good lesson! Love you fiddle. Looks like French, Jacques Bocquay Paris 1736
Liz...I want to THANK YOU!!!! So ❤️ much for your inspirational videos! After 2 years of self teaching, I wiped out on my motorcycle and broke my wrist...Our worst nightmare!!! I lost my band, which was doing the Highland Games circuit in the Pacific Northwest...and 15+ years of music just crashed around me. I thought I would never play my Irish Flute, whistle, bodhran or fiddle ever again....😭 I moved xcountry, and used music as my physical therapy...and by design, now solo...have taught myself guitar; with my fiddle being played only 1-2 hrs a week, I focused on guitar, and vocals- securing pubs, cafes and brewery gigs...You know the ones...lol. NOW? I'm re-energized with these new tunes, and your wonderful personality! I'm BACK, and better than ever! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 🥰🥰🥰 You're wonderful!
God Bless. Have a wonderful Easter! 😊
Love this tune. My ancestors are Scottish . I am learning this today. Thanks for the lesson !
Love it. What a great lesson. Makes me think of Irish Washerwoman. You are a good teacher!
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤣🤣 That's like playing "Stairway to Heaven" at Guitar Center.. Das Verbotten!! 🤣🤣
(Liz gets this...😉)
This lesson is an absolutely brilliant piece of excellent teaching. So helpful to my playing. Thanks so much. Dave Birmingham UK.
Thanks so much, Dave!!
Thank you much! I've been working hard on my fiddle yet I haven't learned anything new without being very stressed. But when I learn from u, u explain everything and play it through with us! Thank u so much for helping me in a step of my fiddle journey 💗
This makes me so happy!! Happy fiddling, piano girl :)
@@LizFaiellaMusic My user is piano girl because I play many instruments and 1 is piano. Its hard to keep up with all of them but for fiddle when you teach all of us we learn much quicker!
😡at you
Fabulous! Loved the variations you put on the old tune…..how can it be that this tune sounds both sad & cheerful at the same time? Great lesson…. many thanks
Superb, lilting rendering with lovely ornamentation in the main tune and very enjoyable natural variations,in the true folk tradition, thanks. And hearing it taught well really helps. Plus great well interpreted material on the rest of the channel.
Brilliant! Enjoy even just listening to it
Thanks Liz! This is the first video of yours I've watched. I really love your approach to teaching and have found this video really helpful!
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that, Alain! Thank you! If you poke around, you'll find a few more of my fiddle tune videos, in case you're interested :)
What a beautiful tune ! And you seem to love playing it 🙂
I'm getting my first violin on saturday and I'm so happy to learn something new! I was getting scares of the classical violin pieces and want to learn somewhere inbetween, some classical some happy, easy going music etc. This sounds so perfect and I'm excited to to learn it one day, once I master some easier stuff 😊
Great love itLiz! You smooshed it!!!
Damnnnnn...NOW I KNOW WHY I WAS FLUBBING THIS UP!!
ROSIN THE BOW AND THIS SONG....TWINSIES!!!🤣🤣🤣 Also! Speed up Raglan Road...and it's a train wreck waiting to happen...lol
Good work ! And now, it's my turn
I like that call and response style. Its so helpful
@@jack002tuber Liz, I will be 80 in a year, not as old as your absolutely beautiful JACQUES BOCQUAY violin! You make it French maker PROUD. Your style of instruction is exquisite! I'm still trying to learn how to play this instrument, started in 1953 on a 3/4 size. I mainly play hymns now. Keep up the good work!
I so love your videos , I hope I can someday I’ll be able to play these lovely songs you play . Liked and subscribed . 💐
Lovely song thank you 😊
Going to start this .
A great tune and excellent instructions. Thank you so much!!
Hi from New Zealand
Thanks for this tutorial, Liz. It's a great little tune.👍
However, can you point out the SLURRING of the bow please?
I would find this really helpful.
Many thanks
Philip, Sheffield, UK. 😊 🌻
Believe it or not your video appeared in my recommended, I see you all the time at Blasty!
Thanks for this Liz, great tune and a relaxed lesson! A question if I may, what strings do you use and what is your action setting - typical classical (4-5.5) or lower?
