    When I was 50, my Uncle got too old to drive and gave me his '98 Ranger. It's basic, 2.5, 5 speed, fleetside, regular cab, no power anything but it does have a/c...and it's purple, or dark blue depending on the light and the angle you look at it from. Just now has 140,000 miles on it. All I've done is put a new clutch kit into it along with a new rear main seal, added new stabilizer bars/rubber bushings to the front and changed the oil. Runs like a top. Only reason I'll eventually get something larger like a Ram 1500 or an F-150 is because I'm 6' 8" and with the seat all the way back my knees still sit halfway up the steering wheel on each side, lol. One thing I DON'T like is that 1st gear is like Granny gear, but it doesn't have enough power to take off well in 2nd gear, so as soon as you take off in first you're already shifting to 2nd. Wish it had enough power to take off in 2nd without feathering the clutch.

    I'm buying a 96 with a 2.3 five speed. I'm a mechanic and if you have a chance, buy one. You can't go wrong with a small truck like this, it takes a serious pounding and is cheap to fix and own, not to mention with a little knowledge, easily modified at a low cost

    • @cva6238
      @cva6238 6 лет назад +14

      @@biancaramirez5788 Very sketchy reply. First of all, the 5.0, 2.0 and 5.4 were never available from the factory, so not worthy of discussion here. The 4.0 is a rock solid strong V6 engine with excellent OHC German made heads from Opel. This engine requires scheduled oil changes to keep the 3 timing chains and rear seals in tip top condition. People that neglect their scheduled oil changes are the ones that have issues. I use Castrol GTX SynBlend with Motorcraft FL-820S filter with the silicon valve. Results speak for themselves. I put 188K on my last 4.0 and currently have 160K on my current Ranger with no issues whatsoever. You are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts.

I can tow a jet ski and a small boat with mine, and it can haul plenty in the bed. They’re stupid simple to work on and the parts are cheap. You can’t go wrong with it. The gas mileage is decent for a rear wheel drive pickup truck.

    I’m currently driving a 2000 ford ranger XLT it is my first truck/ car it has been abused it’s whole life from the previous owner and is rusted to absolutely to shit with 187,000 miles and I have put a good 8,000 of those miles on it the bed is held on with wood and screws and the gas tank straps are rusted away so the tank has 4 rachet straps on it I’ve hulled the good ol 1991 Honda fourtax around all the nearby properties that aren’t gated up the 4 wheel drive still is flawless. transmission is auto has a few rough shifts mostly 3 rd gear it hits a neutral state and you just have to let off the gas and let it shift when it finally wants to it is a rough looking truck on the underside with frame holes and oil leaks and coolent leak but it still goes really good and drives extremely good and easy to learn how to drive. To put in perspective it drives better than my dads brand new 2019 Toyota Tacoma but the Tacoma has less noise and you don’t have to fear hitting a bump to hard and breaking the weak frame but I love my ranger with all its perks and not so perks

    I am 34 years old. Been thru a few "nice" expensive vehicles. I bought the lowest mileage 4x4 used ford ranger I could find in the entire country three years ago. It's the best small truck ever made aside from the older yota's. Parts are cheap A/F and plentiful due to them being fleet vehicles. It crushes snow and is comfortable. The A/C kicks ass. I will drive it until the wheels fall off. These are climbing in value. Scoop em why you can lad's.

      A good amount of the USDM extended cab Rangers had 4 doors after 1998, and they actually made a crew cab for non-US markets as well.
