I have a 96 with the little 4 cylinder matched with a 5 speed. I was driving a newer Santa fe for a while and thought I was gonna be disappointed getting in that thing but was I mistaken. Its without question, the best little daily driver/work truck a young kid could ask for or work for. Thing gets 19 mpg and still has enough power to have some fun with.
My 96 Ford Ranger runs and smog checks like a new truck with 186,000 miles on it. After a hit and run that bashed the rear bumper and bed, I went to the local auto wreckers and picked up a 2001 7 ft Fleetside bed (beds are interchangeable from 93 to 2011) and rear bumper at 50 percent off for just a little over $200.00. Because the Ford Ranger is so popular, the wrecking yards are full of them for you to get the parts you need. I then had it painted (factory color, same color as The Left Pedals) and it looks great.
I'm the same. I was always an GM guy but now I have an 01 Ford Ranger with the 2.5 and a 94 'Mazda Ranger' with the 2.3, both manual RWD. I went out of my way for that configuration. Those 4 cyclinder limas are indestructible, the M5od transmission is simple and reliable and, short of the engine (and maybe even that), there aren't too many parts on it I couldn't swap out in a single day in the driveway.
I have a 1999 S10 I don’t need a big V8 the 4.3 liter V6 is fine for everyday use when you aren’t pulling heavy trailers. It also gets good gas mileage compared to a full sized truck.
The Left Pedal yes, my cousin bought a cheap Honda just to go to work and back for the sake of gas mileage. By the way congrats on 900 subs, in not too long you will have 100k.
AveryThePanda it will get better gas mileage compared to the V6 if you are not pulling a lot of heavy weight the 4 cylinder would be fine. But I’d try to get the price lowered because it’s 4 cylinder. I payed 3900 dollars for a V6 4x4 ZR2.

I just recently got a 97 ranger xlt 2wd extended cab and sidestep with a V6 3.0l engine. Automatic. Few things I had to fix like the transmission had a leak at the radiator and back window slider was broken. Loud and drives great. 😁 Just have to adjust a few more stuff on it and fix the Ac. I bought one just like this truck, 1997 step side with standard cap, 3.0L with automatic transmission. It only had 72k miles. I wish it had a larger cab like this. By the way, you can replace the instrument panel with one that has tachnometer for less than $70.
I bought this exact truck for $900 off Craigslist last week. Changed the sparks (all 8 on a 2.3 liter) and the CEL is gone & hasn't returned! Used it to take my dirt bikes out and it was slow but got the job done. I feel this will be THE WORKHORSE.

I had a 2011 Supercab with the 4.0/automatic. Was a great truck till the electrical system started to give me major issues. I wouldn't mind a bare bones 2.3/5 speed 07+ truck for an errand runner.
COMPADRE I HAVE A 200O RANGER SINGLE CAB 4 CYL. 5 SPD. THAT TRUCK DOES EVERYTHING I ASK OF IT, GOOD GAS MILEAGE. AIR AND HEATER R PERFECT! THE TRUCK WAS GIVEN 2 ME, AND BEING A TOYOTA FAN I LOVE THIS TRUCK! THINKING ABOUT BUY A 2020 RANGER! I GIVE MY 2000 A 5 STAR RATING!
I bought in the beginning of the summer a 97 Ford ranger with 200,000 miles in the little truck work fine and it drives real good and is good on gas the reason that I bought this truck it was because his 5sp manual transmission in a love the Little truck probably next summer I will change the clutch👍👍👍.. I don’t think the new Ranger is going to be good like This one .
I just picked up a 99 Ford Ranger and just doing some tune up things to it right now which has me looking at videos in curiosity. I am also so pleased with my truck that I really don't feel the need to do much updating to it like I have to other vehicles in the past. It's just a good little truck that gets the job done. I got lucky to find one with 57k miles and the body and interior look great as well. Just the expected under rust from an older truck, but even the inspectors were surprised how well it was holding up.
I have a 97. Does yours ever start idling rough clear out of the blue? Mine is a 4 cylinder, so maybe that’s just indicative to that...The 4 is a pain to work on. It even has 8 spark plugs 🙄
The LL23 engine from 95 and up has a fairly rough idling cam profile in the first place. If it continues to idle rough consistently you likely have a small vacuum leak. A/C compressor kicking on will also drag you're idle down and give it a rougher idle as well.
You made the right choice in engines at least. The 2.3 Ford is easily one of the most reliable engines Ford has produced. Btw trust me the spark plugs are generally the hardest part about maintaining the whole truck. P.S. my 2.3 ranger has 320,000 miles, my dads has 350,000, an old man near me had 450,000 on his, and my buddy had an 89 with roughly 300,000 on his.
The dial on the left of the dash, where you change the brightness of the dash. Roll it all the way up till it clicks. Then all the lights come on inside the truck and the bed. Then roll it down a little and they turn off. Hope this helps.
I want to know how you see the solenoids and the wiring on them so I know how to hook my wiring up you know because I think I have them crossed I know there's a certain way that they go on both selling the noise I got the A4 transmission okay same here as you have the 96 Ford ranger splash pickup 3.0 motor but I need to know how the wires go on each solenoid how the cross each other or whatever how they do it so I know how to hook them back up right
I have a 97 4.0 V6 4x4 ranger. Great truck, and it actually does pretty fair on the gravel roads. Gas milage could be better.😂 But that 160 hp and 220 torque. Lol I've got 134k on mine.

I own a 1994 Silver Ford Ranger XLT. It is 2WD, But I'm the 2nd owner, it only has 24,000 miles, it has spotless interior, and exterior, and it's been a garage truck for a long time. That is until I bought it for $4,000. My grandpa a ford guy, nicknamed my truck the Lone Ranger, because of the rare condition it's in. His exact words were, "I doubt there are any other Rangers this old in the world in this good of condition. I would love to modify mine, but as the guy in the video said, it performs so well you just don't see a need to modify it. If you ever come across a Ranger like mine, I would highly recommend you look into getting it. Do what I did, and save the dying breed of mini, but mighty trucks!
I have a chance to buy a 94, ranger 4.0 v6 with 165,000 miles on it for $3500. I would’ve jumped on it if it was a 4 cylinder. Kinda regretting that now .
Oh, you got a 3.0, no wonder you said it was super slow.. The 3.0 is the slowest most gutless ranger motor of all time. The 4-cyl motors are faster and more responsive than those. And the SOHC 4.0 is no slouch at 210hp and making torque low down it will get the truck around with no feeling needing more power, especially in a 2WD Manual they feel even better without all the 4wd transfercase/drivetrain loss.
How did this guy make a Ford ranger review video wholesome

Mine didn’t have a rpm gage what u can do is go to the junk yard find u a cluster with a rpm gage an it’s easy to swap the mileage over to from your cluster to the one with a rpm gage an then the cluster that has the rpm gage just plugs right in an works they already come pre wired if u wanna do that upgrade
I want to get this as my first car
Good luck getting one with low miles lol
@@Frgvnjaiden77 ended up getting a 2000 v6 honda accord. I love t
I’ve got 4 offers for my 1996 Ford Ranger, but it’s not for sale. This truck is indestructible. But knocking wood, don’t want to jinx it.
I love my 08 Ranger, it really is the perfect daily
My 2004 Ford Ranger 2.3 liter 5 speed step side has 235,000 miles and still runs great.
Love my 96 4.0, got 233,000 on it and runs perfect.
Ill be honest, the face is adorable too, like such a cute face!
I bought a 1995 ranger yesterday lol always been a Chevy guy hope this goes well lol
Just wrote off my 02 XLT I had for 10 years, looking at a 97 Saturday
I had a 2011 Supercab with the 4.0/automatic. Was a great truck till the electrical system started to give me major issues. I wouldn't mind a bare bones 2.3/5 speed 07+ truck for an errand runner.
I like Ford so much man
as much as i love the new ram trx, i wish they still made trucks of this size.
Was my first vehicle and if I could ever find one again it's going to be my last vehicle
Is this on old Doss? Rangers are the bomb 👍👍
Yep! We do a lot of these vids down there
COMPADRE I HAVE A 200O RANGER SINGLE CAB 4 CYL.
Let me have your truck
I bought in the beginning of the summer a 97 Ford ranger with 200,000 miles in the little truck work fine and it drives real good and is good on gas the reason that I bought this truck it was because his 5sp manual transmission in a love the Little truck probably next summer I will change the clutch👍👍👍.. I don’t think the new Ranger is going to be good like This one .
Very informative
I just bought a 1995 2.3L 5-speed today.
You can put a tachometer dash out of a similar year, it will plug right in, you can find one on ebay or at a junkyard
I have a 96 XL 3.0 V6 has 100,059 miles runs great. what does the XL stand for??
I just picked up a 99 Ford Ranger and just doing some tune up things to it right now which has me looking at videos in curiosity. I am also so pleased with my truck that I really don't feel the need to do much updating to it like I have to other vehicles in the past. It's just a good little truck that gets the job done. I got lucky to find one with 57k miles and the body and interior look great as well. Just the expected under rust from an older truck, but even the inspectors were surprised how well it was holding up.
in a year my granpa is gonna give me his
I have a 97. Does yours ever start idling rough clear out of the blue? Mine is a 4 cylinder, so maybe that’s just indicative to that...The 4 is a pain to work on. It even has 8 spark plugs 🙄
Alex Henriquez, That’s a 4 litre v6, not a 4 cylinder. Thanks anyway 😊
Hunter Dalton, What do you do to get the transmission to shift sooner?
Hunter Dalton, the rough idle was a clogged fuel injector. There is a skinny plastic vacuum line hanging free. I don’t know where it connects
In my experience replace the belts that's really all that goes wrong. My starter also went out at some point. 97
I have abused my 1996 Ford ranger so much I want to know why it still runs
I bought mine in 2021 still running strong only 1800000
Wait guys, I have a 2008 ford ranger xlt auto 4x4. My first first truck. What should I know about them?? It also have a 5inch lift kit
I know that truck Im no stranger, i know that thats a FORD FUCKING RANGER
hi...how do you work the roof lights above the bed?
The dial on the left of the dash, where you change the brightness of the dash. Roll it all the way up till it clicks. Then all the lights come on inside the truck and the bed. Then roll it down a little and they turn off. Hope this helps.
How about The Dakota? 1989-1996
ever since i sold my ranger i cant stop crying about it. i miss u cherry sorry i sold you mami.
I want to know how you see the solenoids and the wiring on them so I know how to hook my wiring up you know because I think I have them crossed I know there's a certain way that they go on both selling the noise I got the A4 transmission okay same here as you have the 96 Ford ranger splash pickup 3.0 motor but I need to know how the wires go on each solenoid how the cross each other or whatever how they do it so I know how to hook them back up right
How does it handle off road
Decent, pretty bouncy with the rough stuff though
@@Geewizz18 agreed, super bouncy lol. tbh the 2wd SUCK but im going for a prerunner build and i cant wait to take that thing flying through the air
I have a 97 4.0 V6 4x4 ranger. Great truck, and it actually does pretty fair on the gravel roads. Gas milage could be better.😂 But that 160 hp and 220 torque. Lol I've got 134k on mine.
It actually sits up quite a bit higher then the 2x4 trucks.
its a good ass truck. want to cut mine into a brolite though lol.
I have the option to buy a 1996 stepside(with top) 4cyl 5spd with 130k miles for $3500. Hoping I can make a deal. It’s old for a daily in todays age but I like working
💪
Oh, you got a 3.0, no wonder you said it was super slow.. The 3.0 is the slowest most gutless ranger motor of all time. The 4-cyl motors are faster and more responsive than those. And the SOHC 4.0 is no slouch at 210hp and making torque low down it will get the truck around with no feeling needing more power, especially in a 2WD Manual they feel even better without all the 4wd transfercase/drivetrain loss.
Now if you get a 4.0 with e100 it will get 260hp na
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
Democrat turns republican👆👆
well isn't that ... sweet a representative from the gay men's club ... GMC giving a ford its due : )
