Her belief on marriage is profound. We celebrate long marriages but it doesn’t make it great. Unfortunately, most people get lonely without someone. As Oscar Wilde said most people don’t like to be alone because they hate the company.
Oh you know she loved Rosie A LOT if she did this. Estelle was painfully shy and public-anxiety ridden. You can tell she warms up a bit, but oh so reserved. It goes to show the level of talent and professionalism she had to face her fear every time she worked. There will never be another like our beloved Estelle
What a nonsensical comment. She was a stage actress… Your comment isn’t really true and you take a lot of liberties with the truth (“painfully shy…” etc) She was a guest host on the Joan Rivers Show, she hammed it up at plenty of premieres in beautiful gowns and relished those public appearances. By this stage of her life, her dementia had set in somewhat, so if she seems sedated and more ‘sophia like’ that is what you are seeing. I agree with all your nice words, she was a one-off, but don’t color the truth with your weird narrative. You should write fiction.
@@ah7910your wording is unnecessarily rude. Note that Bea Arthur was also a stage actress and was known to be very shy when doing public appearances as herself on talk shows.
@@ah7910 Maybe do some research on her before being a dick. 🤷♀️ She was a VERY shy woman off stage. She knew she had to do those appearances for visibility purposes, and she may have been under contract for some. It doesn't matter. She had a hard time with interviews and the like.
@@ah7910you are coming off as very rude. I don't think the original comment was meant to be rude or disrespectful at all. It's ok to be shy, I'm shy we just have to overcome it
2022 and Estelle and the Golden Girls are still a golden treasure, they have all gone to through those golden gates now but, will forever live in our hearts and history for eternity. We all still love you Estelle and miss you dearly.
I loved Estelle Getty in the golden girls she was absolutely wonderful! I can’t believe she’s been gone for 13 years she truly was amazing! Keep these videos coming Rosie they’re hilarious and I’d be so happy if you decide to bring the show back seriously hopefully will get to see you again on tv
Estelle Getty did not have stage fright during interviews - if you see her in interviews from 1985 and the late 80's she was quite witty and outgoing. What the issue here with The Rosie Show was that she was starting to show signs of the dementia with Lewy bodies disease that she came down with (and eventually died from in 2008). Some say as soon as 1992, during the last year of Golden Girls she started showing signs.
Yes I could tell she was showing signs on golden palace her speech was slower she would stare at things in this it was noticeable but in the first season she was strong and her speech was great
I love this for so many different reasons. Yup..that's me and my wife in the forefront of the audience in the beginning of the clip and I asked one of the questions --- which one was the oldest. Jeez Louis!!!
I missed this episode; 'cause I would have never forgotten Estelle Getty!! I have such regard for her -- she was a powerhouse and her life's reach and legacy lives on with each new laugh and caring thought her character causes us to experience. Thank you Estelle and thank you ROSIE for posting this!! :) And thank you for being so kind and gracious when my friend and I met you in New York City; you didn't have to stay and chat with us for those minutes--still one of my fondest memories!
I’ve been a GG fan since the show was new in the late ‘80s. I was very young, but remember watching it with family and laughing even though I didn’t understand what they were talking about. As the ‘90s came in, my love for the show grew stronger, and by the time I graduated high school in the ‘00s, I could quote every episode. At that time, people my age would make fun of me for liking a show that was what they thought for an older audience. I never cared and proudly displayed my love for GG. Enter now days, the whole world is talking about the show and loves it all over again. I’ve always been an old soul, and appreciate classic things. The GG was a once in a lifetime show, and I’m so glad I got to grow up watching it first time around when these four actresses were still here. Such wonderful memories. To have a time machine…
She was suffering from dementia at this point. She started showing the beginnings in the last season of TGG. She didn’t make too many appearances after this. Her last role was in “Stuart Little” in 1999. I can’t remember if she had a speaking role, though.
Love Rosie thought she was a great host & thought Estelle was great as well. Loved the. Both . Wish Rosie all the. Best and Estelle to rest in heavenly peace!
Loved Estelle - poor woman was clearly suffering here - everything about her, her movements, her speech was slow and odd - go back less than 10 years in interviews and she was like a live wire! God bless her - Sophia is my favourite character ever
Dearest Rosie, we never got your show where I grew up in Sweden but I already love you from this interview and you make me want to watch every clip of every guest you´ve had on. A lot of talk show hosts can learn from you, you have heart and compassion, you let your guests talk, you don´t interrupt them. Big fan!
Watching this compared to an interview she did in 1986- it’s like watching two different people. She was so outgoing and engaging but here she seemed very reserved and withdrawn. It’s so sad how dementia steals your personality and life.
Agreed in 1986 her speech was fast and she would think really fast here she was faded out staring at random things and last season on the golden girls she was showing signs sad
Estelle demeanor in this interview reminded me of my aunt who died of Parkinson’s disease . I just found out Estelle had lewy body dementia which is similar in some ways to Parkinson’s .
She was initially diagnosed with Parkinson's, but it was later found to be wrong. Her family and caregivers said they didn't blame anyone for it because of the similarities.
I still couldn’t believe that she was the youngest cast member even though she played Sophia petrillo! All four of the women were wonderful. Estelle effortlessly brought Sophia’s spirit
She wasn’t the youngest Blanche was the youngest and she was the second youngest by a year. Rose and Dorothy were born 1922 and she was born in 1923. Blanche was born in 1934. I used their golden girl names.
Estelle Getty was a fun funny gifted lady and Enjoyed loved her best on The Golden Girls and a movie she did with Andrew Mcarthy and Kim Katral in 1987 but cant spell it and dont want to be made fun of for not knowing how to spell it .
Dementia was setting in pretty bad here she's reading cue cards. For much of the run of GGs, she had her lines written all over the set. She was a pistol, though
This interview is a little sad. Estelle was already suffering from the dementia that would eventually kill her. And she didn’t have a particularly good marriage. They separated when she took jobs in Hollywood, and he remained in New York. And I guess he eventually moved to Florida.
@@fullervisiondotnet yes, on later episodes of The Golden Girls and Golden Palace she started struggling with her lines and had to have them written in places where the audience couldn't see. She was so darn brilliant on the show that you never would have known.

Her candor is so very Sophia. 😊
