Wynton Marsalis salsa solo on Ban Ban Quere Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra ft. Rubén Blades Solo transcribed by TavoJaramillo paypal.me/TavoJaramilloP
Great, thanks for the transcription, can't wait to get started learning this solo. I just have to first figure out how to extend my range by about an octave and a half
I always knew Wynton could play any type of music but his high chops on this solo is very surprising. He was playing with fire and intensity! Unbelievable talent!
Probably he didn't switch to the crazy shallow cups that salsa players use, that's why he keeps a relatively dark tone even in the higher range. That makes his performance even more admirable.
Wow! 😲 😳 First time hearing Wynton playing salsa! What a hot solo!! 🔥 🔥🎺🎶 ✨👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Never heard him using high notes that way either ..I am not saying he can't play high , but damn his choices of notes (solo structure) are impeccably perfect!
When you reach the level of success that any of those guys have reached, only then will you have permission to speak on them that way, and even then, why not keep your insults to yourself.
@@timeisnow4116 no insult was made. They're both beasts , I am definitely a mere peasant compared to them😩. But Arturo is just not as versatile as wynton in my opinion.
As a professional music and a fan of good latin music music i loved that solo and a SOLO is a musician expressing himself musically not playing to make other snotty negative critizing musicians happy .
Imaginate a John Coltrane interpretando salsa.
@@hughpenner5051 What Marsalis is playing is jazz from the past.He has instrumental ability and no real fresh musical points of view. Listen to trumpeters Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown, Booker Little, Tony Fruscella, early Chet baker (1952-3) and more. Marsalis is a neo-conservatist. It's today's dixieland.
@@GeoCoppens he definitely has his own voice and his instrumental abilities allow him to play some things nobody else can. Just because he has traditional influences in his playing doesn’t mean he’s stuck in the past.

Only problem is that he is laying too far back. In Salsa/Latin Jazz, you have to play on top of the beat. Note selection was good, but feel was off. As a professional musician, this would royally piss off the rhythm section.
Wynton is not God. Nothing to say about his note choices...just his time. He's playing like a Jazz player playing Salsa. Latin music is not about laying back, it's about pushing forward.

LOL
facts
just get the mouthpiece wynton has, adds an octave automatically
My thoughts exactly! 😂
Haha. I feel the same looking at Coltrane solos. The good news is when you slow it to half speed he sounds crap.
I always knew Wynton could play any type of music but his high chops on this solo is very surprising. He was playing with fire and intensity! Unbelievable talent!
Wow that was exceptional. I never realized Wynton was a Salsa player, but he sure does lay this out!
Wynton can play anything you give him
There’s a reason he double grammy’d in jazz and classical
Wynton is THE player, he can play anything.
Wynton is a goddamn monster
Le falta la bomba de los caribeños
The man can lay it down takeing no prisoners he speaks many languages music is the universal language 😎
Wynton is a true master trumpeter that can play all styles of music
Wow. There really isn’t anything this man isn’t capable of. The most complete musician working today.
Just awesome. I didn't know the Monette had a salsa setting...
wynton just goes off
always wanted a Monette
Lmao
It’s only an amplifier, albeit a gorgeous, expensive one!
Tremendo trompetista Winthon Marsalis papa Dios lo bendiga
Woah I didn't know he had that kind of range. That was an amazing solo
His tone is a nice refreshing change from the usually brighter approaches by other salsa players
Probably he didn't switch to the crazy shallow cups that salsa players use, that's why he keeps a relatively dark tone even in the higher range. That makes his performance even more admirable.
@@gmermoud true he’s spent so many decades building that embisure too
His tone is incredible. I love the way he starts this solo.

I passed out trying to play this in my head 🤣
Sublime Wynton Marsalis ! Et quel fabuleux orchestre !
Fantastic! What a contrast to his playing years back when he performed at a Jazz Fest. More range, hotter stuff.

Anyone gonna talk about how good the vocalist was too? Wynton for sure rocked the house though.
That’s GOT to be…Ruben Blades.
Rubén Blades. No introduction needed.
Hermano, Blades is one of the greats. If you like him, you should look at Ray de la Paz next.

Simplemente genial!
Wynton what a talent!
good as it gets, Dizzy notwithstanding, Hubbard close sometimes, Baker too, different styles, for smiles
I will submit arturo sandoval for consideration
@@shrayesraman5192 Arturo is good, but sounds like he's been playing same solo for years. (High playing non stop chromataciwm)mb for spelling
typical for a wynton fan to snub miles 😂

Maestro Marsalis now is officially a Latino mamá!
Nice to hear Wynton play in the upper register. He must have eaten salsa before the gig.
God damn, this is music
Wynton is not a jazz musician. He is A MUSICIAN.
Never realized Wynton had that type of range
I would love to here Wynton battle Jesus Alemany over this song. Would be epic!
Fire!!!
Lots of similarities between salsa and jazz that I never noticed until now......
Open the dance floor already !
