- The best Harry Potter movies ranked (by Rotten Tomatoes) shows the timeline of highest grossing Harry Potter movies as well as the best Harry Potter movies of all time from the year 2001 to 2022. In this video, the list ranks the Harry Potter movies by best in ratings as well as grossing using the comparison Bar Chart Race graph. It is a visual representation of data which highlights the best Harry Potter movies over time. Note that the gross number represents the worldwide box-office gross in dollars and the list is not adjusted for inflation.
Harry Potter is a film series based on the eponymous novels by J. K. Rowling. The series is distributed by Warner Bros. and consists of eight fantasy films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and culminating with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011). A spin-off prequel series that will consist of five films started with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), marking the beginning of the Wizarding World shared media franchise.
The #harrypotter series was mainly produced by David Heyman, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as the three leading characters: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Four directors worked on the series: Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates. Michael Goldenberg wrote the screenplay for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), while the remaining films' screenplays were written by Steve Kloves. Production took place over ten years, with the main story arc following Harry's quest to overcome his arch-enemy Lord Voldemort.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final novel in the series, was adapted into two feature-length parts. Part 1 was released in November 2010, and Part 2 was released in July 2011.
Deathly Hallows - Part 1, Philosopher's Stone, and Deathly Hallows - Part 2 are among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time, and ranking them as the 49th-, 47th-, and 13th-highest-grossing films, with Philosopher's Stone and Deathly Hallows - Part 2 grossed over $1 billion. Without inflation adjustment, it is the third highest-grossing film series with $7.7 billion in worldwide receipts.

Prisoner of Azkaban and Chamber of Secrets were by far my absolute favorites. I cannot believe they grossed the least out of the other 8 Harry Potters. Legit breaks my heart!

Prisoner of Azkaban as the best.
Not only brought the darkness, the violence, even the horror to Hogwarts, but the children heroes prepare their steps to the maturity (partly insinuated in The Chamber...). It would change the saga forever.
So sad Richard Harris wasn't alive to see it...

I loved Half-Blood Prince the most because it really showed the Struggle of Draco’s Character and how he was forced to become a death Eater. You can tell he really didn’t want to kill dumbledore, he was just doing it because he was forced to by Voldemort.

The film is an almost 3 hour mess of subplots and characters where the Half-blood Prince's book just appear 4 minutes and the secret is reveal at the end.

You don't need the constant threat of Voldemort so thats why I like the Prisoner of Azkaban
I really like how the movies got progressively darker and darker in each entry. The tone, and even the color palette were also changing, from a colorful, bright and comforting world to a dangerous, not-so-secure-anymore, threatening reality.
The movies were childish compared to the books. Pettigrew's fate is way darker in the book. The movie just had Dobby stun him yet implied he died. That's why I disagree with people saying the books are for children. Maybe the first ones but the last ones get really dark
The tone is actually really inconsistent in these movies
I may be alone in this one but Half Blood Prince was one of my favorites. I just really enjoyed the calmness of it. It took the time to really further develop the relationships between these characters under a relatively calm school year. And Slughorn was a great character. Quite the contrast from that nutcase in Order of the Phoenix. Yes, I know Umbridge isn't supposed to be likable and we're supposed to hate her. It was just nice to see a dark arts teacher who was on Harry's side again even if he did have his own issues. And of course the whole movie had that calm before the storm feel to it. And the ending was truly emotional and leaves you ready for Deathly Hallows.
Slughorn taught potions. Snape was the dark arts teacher that year.

Tbh, the movie SUCKED but the book of it was SUPER GOOD.
It’s one of my favorites too. It’s like a coming of age high school movie just set in Hogwarts.
I loved this movie because we really see the great change that Draco has taken over the summer from 5th year to 6th year. We also see his struggle of becoming a death eater even though he didn’t want to, and the burdens that came along side it. I personally love Draco and I love how Tom Felton portrayed him. :)

For me 1-4 are the best. Back when it was just a boy having fun in the wizarding world. Before it turned super dark. The books also got longer so the movies skipped more key moments. My favourite is Prisoner of Azkaban.

My fave book (& 2nd fave film) - CoS is sooooo freaking underrated. I don't understand why fandom has such horrible treatment of it??? Its by far the the best adaptation of a novel & most mysterious one of all 7 parts.
My least faves are HBP (probably the worst adaptation) & DH 1&2 (I think I like 2 more than 1)

I miss so much watching these movies at the cinema, awaiting for each release, going to the midnight premieres, and all the hype surrounding it! The same with the books, discussing with friends what we thought was going to happen next, searching the web for theories and clues, and staying up late at night reading the new release because I was too hooked to stop! We were fortunate to grow up with such an amazing series!
I know! My boyfriend (now husband) stood in a line outside the book store all night to pick up the latest release for me, it was something else for sure. But such a joy to relive with your kids. :)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban kind of brought it all together for me, all my obsessions. From witchcraft and wizardry to badass transformations. Finding out secrets about characters, main characters finding people that actually care about him. All time favorite movie.

@@sakhshamprasad6442 If I based it on the movie its the best, on the book its the worst due to it being the longest and almost quite hard to read. Plus, why do y'all care on my opinions. And, y'all putting Goblet of Fire first doesn't also help at all. I have reasons on why I put Goblet of Fire last and Order of the Phoenix best. And a true Potterhead knows that Goblet of Fire (movie) is the worst in the franchise. Reading the books before the movie, you'll know their difference. Despite order of the Phoenix being long, they put in all of the needed scenes and put away the not so neeeded or important scenes, as for GOF, they didn't include the important scenes, they didn't include Dobby in the second task, S.P.E.W, and more . . . We were also not supposed to know that Barty Crouch Junior casted the Death Mark on the beginning. We also have mysteries not yet solved, only putting 3, the Riddle Family, Who casted the Death Mark. But Mike Newell (the director of GOF) also decided for the first task to let the dragon out it's chain, Letting it fall. He even wanted to burn the forbidden forest. He also stated a reason that "I wanted it to be darker." And "I don't want to read all of them because the book is too long." Oh please, don't get me started. But it's not my opinion, its yours =)

Prisoner of azkaban was my favourite followed by deathly hallows and chamber of secrets .poa had great visuals and screenplay and saw a great transition from the first 2 movies in terms of the characters and their growth .
For me chamber of secrets was the best memory in childhood i have seen this movie many times.😁😁

1st: Order of the Phoenix (So. Amazing.)
2nd: Prisoner of Azkaban (Cuarón did such an amazing job (camerawork etc.) despite the story not even having a real antagonist - don't tell me Pettigrew counted as one 😅)
3rd: Goblet of Fire (So much happening! Probably just ranked it 3rd because I didn't read the book and I would have been disappointed 😂)
4th: Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Story. This one has a story. P1, learn from it!)
5th: Chamber of Secrets (Feels like the better part 2 to PS)
6th: Philosopher's Stone (Where it all started. Still, feels heavily like a kids' movie)
7th: Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Camping - The Movie)
8th: Half Blood Prince (Awful movie on so many levels)
9th: Fantastic Beasts 1 (Just doesn't feel like a Harry Potter franchise movie and more like a cringy throw-away movie like Percy Jackson)
Haven't seen Fantastic Beasts 2 yet so can't judge on it (FB 1 was too much of a let-down 😅)
I highly recommend reading foblet of fire, I have and still love that movie despite being very diferrent from the book, but the book its exceptional

The best to me is, definitely, Prisoner of Azkaban! It is the masterpiece where the series becomes cinematically serious and mature, with exceptional concept art, beautiful photography, the most visually beautiful of all eight films! To top it off, the soundtrack featuring the track "buckbeak's flight".

Chamber of Secrets it's clearly my favourite, a superv adaptation of the book with amazing scenes like the quidditch match, the spiders and the fight with the basilisk. Also, Keneth Branagh anf Jason Isaacs steal the movie with his performances.

I like how after Prisoner of Azkaban the other movies started to gross more, because everyone got more hyped for the franchise.

•Half blood Prince(absolute fav. Probably the most impt one in the series as it reveals Voldemort's secrets, without which Harry wouldn't succeed. And Dumbledore's demise was the saddest to me)(Book was better than movie).
•Dh 2(Great ending, so many moments which gave me goosebumps. "Piertotum Locomotor". And Snapes memory was everything!!!!!!!)
•Philosopher's stone(This is where it all started. Still as interesting as it was the 1st time. I miss their cuteness.)
•Prisoner of Azkaban (Excellent movie, Remus Lupin is a gem. Sirius' intro gave the movie a new turn. The last year at Hogwarts before the darkness emerged.)
•Chamber of secrets(cute as well as powerful. The climax [fight with Basilisk] was everything.
•Order of the phoenix(don't like it that much. But still a lot better than gof ofc. But Sirius' death was just soo sad. And the prophecy!!)
•Dh 1(The hunt begins. Why I gave it a second last is that it left me unsatisfied kinda lotta confusions. And Dobby's death! Saddd)
•Goblet of Fire.(I neither like the movie adaptation nor the book. Don't know why. The 3 tasks were actually cringy lol. And boring too(to me. Sorry to GOF fans.)and the emergence of darkness. )
Prisoner of Azkaban was such a well-made film...whether you're into Harry Potter or not.
Ranking them all would be one of the hardest decisions in my life lol, I just can‘t do it. It makes me genuienly sad tho that so many people see CoS as their least favorite one. How and why? How could someone not love that mysterious & creepy atmosphere?

The first two movies directed by Chris Columbus and Sir Richard Harris as Albus Dumbledore are the best for me, not for ranking but the quality of the movie based from the book.
HP 3 had some issues and took long before it was released with a lot of changes, from characters to uniforms, and the fact that they got all matured in the movie.
At least the brilliant John Williams stuck around for the third movie. The music went downhill after that, order of the phoenix being the most boring of all the movies music score.

What really?? Lol me too!! I like all the mysteries, I commented the same thing on other videos but I don’t get much replies, it really is my most favourite book!
Out of all the parts, I've always liked the Chamber of Secrets and the Deathly Hallows the most.
But with the films, I think the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best visually, the effects, the scenes, even the colours.
And now the Fantastic beasts too, but that is kind of obvious that filming improved over the years.
My ranking:
Order of the Phoenix.
Yes, I know, an unpopular opinion, but for me Order of the Phoenix was the best since we actually got to find out a bit more about the organisation and the history of it. It was also Harry at his darkest, which, for me, added to the depth of his character, and his willingness to fight while also experiencing PTSD was admirable, as well as his leadership skills developing rapidly. Dumbledore's Army scenes were one of the best as well as Harry and Sirius's duo. I think their relationship was one of the most well-developed ones. Luna was a great addition to the series, and her friendship with Harry was so enjoyable to watch.
The Half-Blood Prince
The perfect combination of light and dark moments. Slughorn was another cool addition, and Harry and Dumbledore's relationship was at its peak before he died. It's also a movie where we start to see more of Snape's personal arc.
The Deathly Hallows part 2
Epic. Neville stands out as one of the bravest characters - a true Gryffindor. Harry is no longer lost like he was in the Deathly Hallows part 1, and he quickly creates a plan to destroy all the remaining Horcruxes. Harry's "death" was one of the most emotional moments as was him meeting all the people he lost via the Resurrection Stone and accepting death willingly which resulted in him surviving. One of the highlights of the film was Snape's memories and us finally getting to know him. Harry versus Voldemort, Neville versus Nagini, Ron and Hermione in the Chamber of Secrets - the film has it all.
The Prisoner of Azkaban
This film has autumn atmosphere about it, and it introduces Remus and Sirius perfectly. Harry was epic with his Patronus. We get to see his talent and practical studying of the Patronus Charm. Harry's relationship with Remus was well-portrayed and it was the beginning of Sirius's character arc and him being a family to Harry.
The Philosopher's Stone
This one has Christmas vibe about it for me, and I love Christmas. Harry gets to explore the wizarding world and meets friends. Overall, it was a great movie, just not one of my favourites.
The Goblet of Fire
This film was a bit uneventful for me, with the new students and the Yule Ball being the highlight. It lacked teamwork of the Golden Trio and it did seem shorter than the other ones somehow
The Chamber of Secrets
It used to be one of my favourites, and I loved the first scene of Harry meeting Dobby, but it comes at the bottom for me, because the plot of it wasn't that exciting.

I know its not a lot of peoples favourite, but the movie I personally enjoyed the most was The Order of The Phoenix

I absolutely loved the Goblet of Fire

Goblet Of Fire was in my opinion my favorite
It had the Quidditch World Cup, Harry participate in the Triwizard Tournament, see Robert Pattinson BEFORE he starred in Twilight, Voldemort take on his final form, the introduction of the Death Eaters, a guy who looks like he could beat Snape in terms of Satanic Count appearance, and two more magical schools appear.
So happy to see Deathly hallows part one so hight on the list! I think it's one of my favourites because we really get to see the interpersonal relationship between the main cast. The dancing scene between Harry and Hermione was so beautyful, i am actually kind of sad that while Ron was away in the book everyrhing was just super sad... So in my opinion, the movie did better there
I hate that scene 😂 total rubbish added by movie.It was soo awkward.They are just showing Harry and Hermione together while in books Harry and Ginny's relationship blossoms which is beautiful.I think Ginny is made for Harry
