It's amazing that the threat of an open scale house is worse than having a heart attack while driving. Pretty much because you are most likely to be encounter an open scale house and be inspected. I know I'm not crawling under my vehicle and I've never seen anyone else do it at a truck stop. But these inspection sites have bays where law enforcement can walk under the vehicle with a flashlight. Really, what chance do we really have against that?

I’m 61 and still do it everyday, and will do it as long as I can. I may not always love who I work for. But for me there’s nothing like it. Oh I’m a local driver. Did P&D for 20 years. No do 250-300 miles a day. No touch. Judy open doors and relax. Paid by the hour. It’s not great money, but I’m not complaining. For my age is a great job. But I think we all have pretty much the same things.

I don't drive trucks, but my biggest fear while driving is loss of visibility on the road. You can't see where you're going, but if you stop in the middle of the road, you'll get hit.

I had this happen years ago on a stretch of I-40 between Knoxville and Nashville. Rain so hard I couldn't see. I finally got in behind another 18 wheeler pulling a reefer and was able to see well enough until I could find a safe place to get off the interstate and let the storm blow over.

Phillip Walls Yeah we had coil tubing rigs that we were up in the pa mountains that were tri-drive heavy haul petes that had 5 axle trailers 4 axle tractors counting the tag grossing 240,600. The flat landers from texas and down south caught some brakes a fire because there were too cocky and didn’t respect the mountains up here. Luckily no pile ups or accidents. That was there last paycheck after those episodes

Cindy, good video. I really respect the hard work truckers like you do for us to enjoy the goods and conveniences of life you help provide. Your tireless work makes this country great and I appreciate what you do. I work for a power company, and I've had the unfortunate circumstance of working several fatalities involving trucks. The worst was a husband/wife team where the husband who was driving fell asleep at the wheel and struck one of our power poles killing both occupants. It was a horrible scene, needless to say. What was heartbreaking was seeing all the personal items of this couple strewn about the scene, clothes, CDs, hand written notes, etc. Now we have to deal with distracted drivers who continue to take their eyes off the wheel in search of the latest likes on social media...………...PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!! Keep up the great content.

My Uncle a few years ago, had a heart attack on I-40 out east of Amarillo, at the time he was driving for Werner. He slowed the truck down and kept driving into the truck stop at Amarillo, another driver at the truck stop saw him pull in, and said when he opened the door to get out, he fell on the ground, the other driver called for an ambulance. thats probably been 15 year or a few more years now

1st fear. Blowing another steer tire while loaded going down a two lane highway. (Almost killed 4 motorcycle riders and almost rolled into a farm house avoiding all traffic). Didn't hit a thing and kept the truck right side up with zero damage. Couldn't get back into truck for awhile. 2nd fear. Having any object thrown off an over pass into my windshield. This could be from people, a passing car onto the over pass or even a snow plow pushing the snow off the over pass onto the highway below. I have had all 3 happen to me and all 3 scared the living daylights out me.

Hi, questions to be tabled please:
    1) why the spread on the axles in the most trailers are only tandem.
    2) The extended rails from bunk the turn table leave a massive amount gap causing wind turbulence and drag to the tractor by fuel consumption making the motors and all drive line elements working hated contributing to fuel burn.
Tralers: why not have exiles set back as tripes for less wear and tear and tires and the also have the ability to carry heavier loads = more $ per loaded mile.
You guys must burning fuel and tires in the USA to the bewilderment by other truckers from Australia, were we max out loads to the legal limits.

    • @TheFlatbedChick
      @TheFlatbedChick  4 года назад

Ash Walton The weight allowed on a tandem is 34k lbs, a spread axle is 40k. The distance from my bunk to trailer doesn’t matter much with an open deck because the drag and aerodynamics change with every load. 😊

I was driving through Texas in the middle of the night and was out running a tornado. We knew it was close because the truck was almost blown over more than once. The wind and rain along with the hail was really scary and I seriously thought we wouldn't get away from it in time. I ended up with medical problems that took me out of a truck forever and I can honestly say still to this day (13 years) later I miss it more than ever.

I say every night when i am leaving the house that i hope those truckers don't kill me tonight and know they are trying to. I can see your point about the fears but really only see that as a preventable. Brakes, freezing, fire...all preventable. At 49 years old and 27 years of trucking i just don't really think about those things. Good PTI and Post TI are essential and just watch the other truckers...(They are trying to kill me) I guess i don't have any real fears but i do have a frustration...getting a pump! Get OFF MY FUEL ISLAND!

  • @LVLouisCyphre

This is also up there with black ice, hydroplaning. I had that happen to me driving a fully loaded bus during a flash flood. Fortunately I remembered exactly what to do just take your foot off the accelerator and coast. While it was going on for under two seconds, those were perhaps the longest two seconds. I had retired from driving 15 years earlier (1998). I kept my CDL as a back up plan. Just before I turned 45 I had to surrender my CDL as I can't pass a DOT physical anymore. I had major spine surgery that didn't go well. Bottom line is my upper spine is metal, my upper spine x-ray could land a cameo in The Terminator franchise. I now take oxycodone for pain management from failed back surgery and didn't have full use of my right shoulder which is a fail for a DOT physical.

I experienced #1 a block away from the Coca-Cola branch I drove out of. A guy on meth on a bicycle T-boned my tractor on the driver’s side, ripping the bottom step off my fuel tank. He was thrown under the rear of the tractor and continued under the trailer. I and Coke was sued for $20 million. I had to give a deposition. I was cleared, and the other side dropped the case. The man killed was on fatal numbers of meth. I had been driving for 34 years when that happened. I went back to work and retired 2 years later as I had planned.
