After Supper Feeding Chores On Amish Farm

It's early evening and the family has eaten their supper. Now it's time to feed the pigs, horses, pony, calves, and milk cows. Come along as the kids and dad get the animals fed in Lancaster County, PA

Don't forget that horses are also the transportation. Maybe someone needs to go somewhere late at night to check on something. I always give the Amish ultimate respect. They are so connected to their land.

Happy Cows! They are clean and eat better than i do. No flies in that dairy barn that I could see. Can I have a non paying job? Just need a place to hook up my camping trailer. Yes, I can drive horses and tractors. and feed the weaner calves.

I suppose there is still work waiting for some of the horses and mules- they are still harnessed. But a good practice would be to take the bridles off, at least the bits.

I can almost smell the feed room. That silage feeder would be as handy as a pocket on shirt. Our feeder only had one wheel on the front and two handles out the back LOL. Dairy farming, there's no life like it. Thank you for your time.

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I remember those feeders! Use to park it, engage the tractor PTO and fill it from the silage wagon, turn off the PTO and feed the cows. That got old after 20 trips or so!

@@LancoAmish And our neighbor who lives about a 1/8 of a mile across the the field from use to take a load of manure out and a load of silage back in with the wheelbarrow. 43 loads a day . He also never had a gym pass.

good video thankyou are these cows chained up 24 hours a day i pray not as this would sadden me . yes i was raised and worked on a dairy in NSW AUSTRALIA .our herd where JERSYS. they were never needed to be penned as our winters were never as cold as yours . CHEERS

Interesting how modern some have become yet still no silo unloader lol. Those TMR mixers are made by Mennonite out here in Curtiss he makes a good mixer and a lot of them!

How hard is it to pull the bridle off a horse or mule so they can chew their food properly?

Are you kidding? A horse or mule has no trouble eating with a bridle on. These guys were brought inside for a bit to get a quick bite before going back to work. Why do something that takes time…twice…when time is always at a premium when farming. This isn’t a game to these people…it’s their livelihood.

@@LancoAmish I worked in a stable with a large herd of horses kept in single stanchions. We were constantly sweeping and mucking out but we kept it clean and were very careful about spilling feed. If we didn’t, we would be dealing with rats.

Thanks for watching. The vast majority of Amish in America use electricity either DC Or AC from inverters. Solar power is quite popular with them.
Some Amish are more particular about photography than others. I am respectful of their wishes such as close ups, interviews, etc.
