I always buy nearly new 2nd hand then in theory the bulk of depreciation has happened then watches have a good chance of maintaining value. If omega go boutique only do you think they will raise prices to give some perception of exclusivity even if overall sales numbers fall?
This is why I’m glad I have one Omega, the 2255.80 Electric Blue from the early 2000’s . Their best years and designs that still hold value on the open market. Was tempted by the new Speedy but the depreciation is awful. The brand used to be so strong :(
Omega going boutique only is just them controlling the grey market (which they should be doing). Grey market watches come from ADs who couldn’t meet the quota and want to keep Omega on the books. So it’s not Omega flooding the grey market or doing 30% off its the ADs. Honestly after all the funny business with the ADs and Rolex over the years the ADs are good for it. I’d love to see Omega take full control of retail, it would only be good for the brand. So you are half right but Omega wants to stop it so that’s why they want to go Boutique only and there is most likely some legal reason they just can’t cut the ADs out or they don’t have enough Boutique yet.
Contractually, there may be a termination clause for 3 months notice. When a company has this strategy, it must be executed quickly and decisively. If this is going to take another 12 - 24 months to complete, I agree they will need to ramp up their Boutiques and simultaneousy close off the ADs. I am not suggesting that there will always be £1m of stock to shift in 3 months, but Omega may be picking off the biggest ADs first, (multisites), to avoid new start-up Boutiques having higher prices that a closing down AD. It seems Omega wants to distance itself (literally in-store) form Tudor, Breitling and Tag and become more exclusive. When it closes smaller ADs, it can afford to buy the stock back to move to the Boutique network.. My nearest AD is 1hr 20mins away, family run 4th and 5th generation for over 140 years selling Rolex, Omega, Breitling and Tag as well as a regional Rolex Service Centre.
Most of these Omega boutiques are not corporate owned but belong to the same AD groups who sell multiple brands at the same time. And I would not trust a watch manufacturer like Omega to know how to sell 500000+ of their watches every year without any type of discount, when jewellers with decades of retail experience can't do it on their behalf.
Maybe they plan to sell 300,000 instead and make the same profit. I just don't like how they are treating their AD partners who should be bought out just as they had to pay to get in. @vinceslapchopper

I was there a couple of weeks ago, and the ADs were all offering 15% off retail on everything (except the limited editions and specials like the No Time To Die). But even at 15% off and tax free in Dubai, this Prganells price is still cheaper than that. I haven't googled it, but will do now.
I will keep being smart and buying low, enjoy them and turn them over as they come and go. So Omega do me a favor and keep dumping them. What would we prefer the shit Rolex does by manipulating the market. They are on opposite faces of the same coin. I rather be on the side that gives me value than “perceivable” status. You won't convince me this is not a blow to Omega the brand, Pragnell is a prestigious AD that also has Patek and Rolex. Omega needs them more than the other way around. That's why Pragnell is openly discounting online, they don't care about the relationship with them anymore. Too much hassle to sell their stock to retail users with no discount while at the same time dealing with Omega requirements like they are the Rolex golden goose. And I don't believe for a second Omega will manage to transition successfully to a boutique only model in the long run, they were never able to take advantage of the pandemic situation to elevate the status of their brand on the pre-owned market. Their watches still traded well below MSRP because they just pump way too many for what the market can absorb at the retail level.
Sour taste in my mouth with Omega. A watch I bought 14 months ago from their London boutique and was online from another Omega AD three months later with 25% knocked off. Will never go back to Omega.
I watched yesterdays video and saw Pragnell were offering 30% off the Speedmaster I've aways wanted. As you suggested I checked with my local AD (WoS) and they price matched! Picked-up the watch this morning. You've saved me a bunch on a watch I really wanted so, thank you so much for sharing. The specific 'speedy' I've purchased was taken off-line last night about 7:00pm but appeared again this morning only to disappear around midday! Serious delusions of grandeur from Omega, all driven by the Covid bubble. You are NOT Rolex, so stop thinking you are. This started with ridiculous price rises to try and tap in to Rolex scarcity in 2020-now. The dumping of ADs (Pragnell’s is the 3rd we know of) all part of some grand plan that will leave them looking foolish. Central London boutiques, both official Omega and those owned by WoS are always quiet, if not dead. That's a £250, fake, plastic, toy Speedmaster. And the Speedmaster was one of most iconic watches of all time ... was.
