    Patek’s latest tag line is “if you can’t afford it, they don’t really care what you think about their design”. What’s nice about Omega is they also have a great historical impact, continued association with NASA, and yet they remain humble. Their staff at the Bienne museum are super friendly and accommodating and again, very humble and friendly.
    Sadly we see far too many arrogant brands led by such CEOs, such as AP’s Bennahmias etc. I wish we saw more humility across these brands, irrespective of how big a price tag they may carry.

      Thats also the reason I sell all my Rolex watch. I seems unfair that you must pay extra at grey market to get a brand new or if you buy at AD they will push you buy unpopular model a lot before let you buy a popular sport stainless steel watch. You treated poorly like you seems very lucky person in the world to get a chance buy their watch. After using Rolex watch for quite sometime I think the quality not even better than Omega. Its just the hype. Better buys something from brand that value you as a customer that need to spend quite ammount of money to buy a good mechanical watch.

    I have even more respect for Omega having heard their CEO. I own two; one vintage and a new Seamaster Aqua Terra 41 with an Olive dial. Great watch. Next purchase will be the FOIS. I can't afford to buy a watch that costs more than $15K so Omega is perfect for me. FYI, I do own a Rolex but it's an old one and really wasn't a very good watch, even when I bought it in 1998.

    @chrisp.5272 Месяц назад +1

    Inflation, economic downturn, covid over, informed/younger consumers, smart watches, and Asian factories refining and improving quality control, means more conservative buyers that are more focused on essentials over luxuries. I see the midrange entry level brands like Tissot, Casio, Citizen, Seiko, along with rising Microbrands like San Martin, WISE, Christopher Ward, ect really becoming the focal point of horology. Cheaper, more practical/affordable watch brands are better than ever and constantly improving. I think a new Quartz/Smart Watch Crisis might arise amid economic depression, and global instability.

    • @frankhujsa821
      @frankhujsa821 Месяц назад

      Interesting take. We are definitely seeing a reversion to the mean in luxury goods following the post lockdown binge.
      Not sure if I agree that microbrands and entry level brands are the new focus of horology. They’re having a moment (especially some of the micros you mentioned), but they’re not displacing Rolex, Richemont, the Swatch Group, etc. Instead, they’re creating a parallel market. And, like it or not, the center of “horology” is the Apple Watch.
      I think it’s important to note that essential goods AND luxury goods are less vulnerable to substitution effects and price inelasticity than the midrange. The disruption of the Apple Watch distorts the whole spectrum of watches so let’s think of cars instead for a moment: when the going gets tough, demand for midrange or aspirational luxury goes down first. Demand for cheap new cars or used cars goes up because people in the midrange shift down. But, demand for Rolls-Royce’s doesn’t go down and they still sell out. This is because high end cars aren’t for transportation any more than high end watches are for telling the time. They are both for conveying status, rewarding achievement, and declaring exclusivity. They’re about technical prowess and craftsmanship, not about doing work.
      People who were going to buy a Casio when times were good are still going to buy a Casio (I love Casio by the way). Same for people who were going to buy a Patek (I also love Patek). But people who would have bought something like a Citizen, a Tag Heuer, or an Omega will likely make a different choice.

      Nah, eliminate tariffs, increase income taxes on the wealthy, increase taxes on corporations, CUT taxes on lower-income individuals so they have more money to spend, and ELIMINATE income tax on individuals below the poverty line. This increased federal tax revenue can then be used to create a BALANCED BUDGET (a phrase that you NON-fiscally conservative Trumpers never use) to pay for better quality public education, infrastructure, and the entitlement social programs that literally everyone who isn't a billionaire or multi-millionaire supports.

      While it definitely would be nice for Omegas to be half their current price, I don’t think even a 90% discount would slow the adoption rate of smart watches. It’s just a totally different thing: luxury Swiss watches aren’t actually about telling the time, they’re for telling a story (often about the wearer, to himself or herself). They’re an ornament, a trophy. Think about how one of the most desirable features of some mechanical watches is a sapphire glass exhibition caseback.
      The Apple Watch is a tool or an appliance. It’s a faceless and ultimately disposable platform for apps.
      The fact that they occupy the same place on the wrist is about the only thing they have in common.
      Because of their place as luxuries to be admired and coveted, and as long as people are willing to pay, Swiss watched should maintain aspirational pricing.
