- Abandoned McDonald's - Detroit, MI. Closed recently. Newer design too. This particular location has bulletproof glass inside. Something I've never seen in a fast food restaurant before.

That’s my old neighbor hood. So much has changed there… I use to go there as a kid from time to time. I’m long gone away from there now. Good old 313 off Linwood Street.
Bulletproof glass in a McD means they probably got robbed a lot.
Omg, it's a good thing you didn't linger too long there bc when you were going around the back, it looked like there was some one with a white bag moving left towards the door, trying not to get seen in the dumping area. There probably was someone staying there. They may have gotten in from the roof. That could explain why that door was open and why all of that stuff that looks like personal stuff was in there. Be careful friend.
It's Detroit, that's what you expect I guess.
@@Wilhelm-Von-Hohenzollernhave you ever lived in Detroit
@@Cinephilesteve7909 why?
@@Wilhelm-Von-Hohenzollern you don’t know what Detroit is like until you lived there or in the metropolitan areas surrounding areas
@@Cinephilesteve7909 it's a joke, from a stereotype, gee, don't take it personal.
Probably because it’s in a really bad neighborhood with a lot of crime
I think if that was the determining factor KFC & White Castles would not be open
The owner died and his kids closed
This neighborhood of not that bad
Hi Wallie,
Welcome to Detroit!
Just, recently and Burger King 🤴 and McDonald's have been Closing Restaurants Permanently in the inner city of Detroit. This, McDonald's location Dexter and Linwood,is in the lower Westside of Detroit. That's a rough area of Detroit. Besides, the inner city Fast Food Restaurants have Bullet Proof Windows, just like the Banks, have Bullet Proof Windows.
I,even remember the 1967,Riots on Detroit's Lower Westside.
Wow. That's crazy to know the fast food restaurants do. I can understand banks for sure. I had that feeling that area wasn't the best place in the world but I didn't want to say anything disrespectful in the video.
Dude, it's worse here in chirq
It’s really a rare sight to see an abandoned modernized mcdonalds
That's exactly what I said!
It’s Detroit enough said
@ryanclifton7033 is the same here in Chiraq. Actually, this happens a lot in major cities nothing new
They have recently closed it for good
You know you in the hood when McDonald's has bulletproof windows
Yikes that’s sad when they have to install bulletproof glass on the counter. Detroit has so many abandoned places. I love it and I want to go back someday.
The franchise owner passed away unfortunately that’s why it’s closed
Don't let this be the only image about the city, it's amazing the rest of it
So agree ,Its the most beautiful city I have ever been too and I want to find my forever home in Detroit
Man that's probably one of the greatest McDonald's you've ever filmed Wally. That bulletproof glass freaked me out and I was watching from the comfort of my front room lol
Wow! To have bulletproof glass windows at a fast-food restaurant must mean prior to that, they must have been getting robbed at least once a day or more.
Wallie, if you have time while you’re in town, you should go to Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village in Dearborn if you haven’t been there before. It’s well worth the visit. :)
Definitely +1👍
There was a McDonald's on a cut through on my way to work that closed during COVID. It's in a bad area and about a month after they closed all the boards were ripped off (all windows and doors were boarded up originally) it's covered in graffiti. It looked so gutted, it was insane. I haven't driven past it recently but wouldn't be surprised if it was torn down or torched down at this point. It was really wild to see.
I saw that person hanging out in the dumpster area with the white bag and I'm glad you didn't run into any trouble there. That could've gone south in a hurry. Stay safe out there, man.
I saw that
bulletproof glass in mcdonalds is how you know youre in the hood
True.
lmao
Any burgers left lol
Nothing!
Linwood and Dexter 😂😂😂
and Davison
Linwood and Dexter run the same way about a half mile apart
I been to that location before when it was still open my grandmas house is about a 15 min walk from there!!
The bulletproof windows were also probably to protect employees from being hit by stuff thrown by angry customers along with bullets. This was a great video Wallie!
Love the videos. In Clio Michigan there's a big k with all the signs still up
It’s pretty colorful for being in the same architecture as the draft gray boxes they usually renovate the old places into…
Strange to see a box style abandoned
Another amazing video with more humor. My favorite!
Davidson and Linwood--------------Theres another abandoned McDonalds very close to this one @Fenkell and Wyoming. Always wondered what happened. They would always be so busy, I mean busy, all times of day or night, so it wasn't the revenue. The area is dangerous.
Somebody had a Huge Big Mac attack,,
Great video man! 👍
Thanks!
Love your videos, you and many others have inspired me to go out and explore abandoned places, keep it up!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Yes!! Go out and explore! Just be safe and trust your instinct when doing so. If you get a bad feeling or vibe, you should listen to what your instinct tells you.
Too bad you weren't able to get in
Yeah. Something told me, with that stuff inside, that would have been a bad idea. Doors were locked anyway though.
Crazy stuff!
A great video, Wallie! 👍👍👍👍
Thank you
@@WallieB26 You're welcome!
Wow. Guessing high prices or nuisance property. With that glass I am thinking the worst. Ugh. Thanks for sharing . it also looks like someone is staying in there
As always great video 👍
Awesome Wall
Whats so cool about the wall
First time i've seen you do a video in Detroit. The king of abandoned homes and buildings. I heard that every burger king in detroit closed
Hey welcome to my city Wallie. You were literally right up the street from where I live
A lot of fast food and coney islands etc. have bullet proof glass in certain areas of Detroit.
Wow awesome McDonald's 👌
Must of been in a really really bad area thanks for sharing
Great video Wallie! I’ve been around every part of Detroit and this area is definitely a little more sketch than other parts of the city. Glad you put this video together. Too bad to see locations like this become abandoned and then people losing their jobs. Just awful.
Stay safe, thanks for the video
McDonald's Double quarter pounder with cheeseburger with fries and large drinks that be all.
That’ll be $35 pull up to the window
Tried to scroll through all the comments to see if anyone said this or not, but the abandoned BK is actually a Checkers aka Rally’s here in Ohio.
That's crazy 🤪 with the windows u should try to do one about centrey mall
If there's one thing to know about a certain area: if the McDonald's closes, especially a newer one like this one, you gotta get outta there cuz it is not a safe area
Welcome to Detroit Rock City 🎸 !
A lot of stores have bullet proof glass in Detroit. What area was that, the crossroads? Depending on exactly where you were it might’ve been better or worse than you think. Most of the people in Detroit are great people just living their lives but the criminals give zero Fs and most of us don’t like tourists, it’s extremely common for people from the surrounding suburbs to drive through just to see the “bad areas” and nobody likes being looked down at. It sounds ridiculous unless you’ve experienced it.
No I completely understand that. That's why I tried explaining that in the video near the end. It's a shame that a few bad people ruin places for others who are just living life and trying to do their best.
Linwood and West Davison
Stay safe Wallie
i cant believe they had to install bulletproof glass in a mcdonalds. thats something any ordinary bank would do but even the banks in my area dont have that kind of security. i cant imagine how many armed robberies had to have happened there!
That’s actually fairly common for businesses in Detroit.
It looks like homeless living there
Believe it or not I actually I like looks on that building, I know it is shoebox and it dose have very little character to that one, but colors to that dose look pretty nice, but sadly it had to close tho :(
That's not the only place in DETROIT, with bullet proof glass. I was born there in 1958. I LOVE DETROIT.
Where in Detroit just curious. I grew up on the Eastside. They started doing bulletproof windows in 90s. I admit it’s sad. Love your videos ❤
Davison between M-10 and Livernois.
Linwood and west Davison
Its like that EVERYWHERE in Detroit the whole city is dangerous
So I've seen lol
If you stick to the downtown area, it’s not quite as bad as the rest of the city. The Detroit Institute of Arts is one of my favorite places to visit.
@@WallieB26 Detroit, Michigan is said to be one of the worst cities in America. High Crime rate, even worse than Chicago. Most of Detroit is abandoned because of the Ford factories leaving and went into the suburbs. Detroit is a ghetto town. Homes are sold for a dollar. They've had serious housing issues within the last 15 years. So sad.
@@WallieB26down town is getting better but there’s still lots of crime but the mayor is fixing parts of it
Not all of Detroit is bad. I’ve been around pretty much every section of the city and while some places I feel safe in, there are definitely others I remain alert in. Definitely be careful as a whole in any big city.
I've been seeing where sheetz is apparently going to expand into the Detroit Michigan area
Hopefully you enjoyed Michigan
Thank you! I did. My visit was way too short though. I plan to come back as soon as it's financially possible. I want to film the places you suggested as well as several others. I've written down every place everyone suggests in hopes of making it there to do so.
@@WallieB26 awe! That would be cool! Hopefully you’ll be back soon! 🤍
@alaurenmarie3453 of course. Next time I'll give ya a heads up just in case you find anything new for me to check out!
@@WallieB26 let me know when you’re thinking of coming to the area… somehow lol! I got a bunch of places for you!
@@alaurenmarie3453 will do!
Another really good video! Must have been a bad neighborhood to have bullet proof glass! Sure is an a lot newer kind of Mcdonald's!
Have you ever encountered anyone making a home in one of the abandoned buildings
I did at the abandoned Service Merchandise in Jackson, Tennessee. He was hanging out in the receiving area. Wasn't sure if he was homeless or not. Had a lot of stuff and a makeshift bed but was laying there using a smart phone.
However I kept my distance and he never once bothered me nor said anything and I left him completely alone as well.
Still in good condition
That one is on Davidson and Linwood. only one I ever been to with bullet proof glass
Funny how I came upon this video. A coworker and I was talking about how bad Davidson was( pot holes and lumps)before the 90s. Probably been around 15 years since I’ve been down Davidson.
I can see McDonalds abandoning a location where they are afraid of getting robbed every week. I remember hoing to a McDonalds in Detroit and the workers were behind bullet proof glass (or plexiglass, not sure), and they served your food by sliding it under the glass. Thats pretty sad
Nice video! You know crime had something to so with it closing.
Fun video lol
that bullet proof glass is a joke a shooter could shoot through the counter just under the glass or through the wall if they wanted to.
there’s an abandoned churches chicken over there too 😅
Wow. I've seen plenty of abandoned red roof McDonald's but never seen an abandoned futuristic one.
Good video what did you think of Fairlane town center
Maybe the lease was up at that location mostly you find adonden Pizza Hut also along with Burger King
there’s a newer style abandoned mcdonald’s in trenton michigan my friend told me about from down there that closed
Mount Clemens was famous in the 20s for the mineral baths
Hi Wallie, I have a backstory on what happened. My family knew the specific franchise owner personally. Lmk, if you want to hear? 🙂
That's Detroit for you abandoned places with people breaking into them 💯 nothing new around here
bullet proof glass, neighborhood I would want to live in , yeah right
Oh WOW! I've never seen an abandoned shoebox McDonald's left abandoned before. That's actually nuts! So it's still possible for McDonald's to go out of business. Even in this day in age of food delivery apps.
You should explore the gas station across the street that’s my neighborhood mc donalds
sheesh never seen anything like that before. Seems usa has some problems with robberies if its this bad...
Seen the exact same setup at White Castle on the Detroit\Redford border
It’s so weird to see a McDonald’s like that abandoned, And it was renovated around 2018. One of my local MickeyD’s actually has this look.
This is just detroit. I started exploring abandoned places for myself beccause of the content like this
If its anything like the one that used to be on waverly rd in lansing......they found 6 bodys in the freezer over night. In the early 2000s
Back in the day, the only way a McDonald's would close is when the employees would try to unionize. Thanks Wallie! 👍
If a franchise owner fails 3 health department inspections or if a crime (like selling drugs out of the drivethru) has been committed they lose their franchise and its more likely what happened here. keep in mind there are plenty of business in bad neighborhoods that stay open. I'll bet there is a Coney Island just down the street just killing it in sales. Wallie I think you need to get out of the suburbs more often???
I know that area. One of the unsafest areas in the hood, 😂
alot of burger kings closed here in Detroit.overnight. Something about the owner's diaper got wet so he closed all of his Michigan stores. not sure
KMFDM simply the best
2:53 I live in Detroit. Our post office has that glass with a big sign on the front door reminding everyone that is a felony to rob a post office with a firearm and is a 10 year sentence. Never saw that before in my life. You should not have left your car running or people inside it in that area. Car jack city.
It's a felony to rob anyone, whether you have a firearm or not.
That is one of the ruf intersections in northwest Detroit Dexter and Davidson
A “banker’s style”window that’s not strange is it. Byeeeee
There’s bullet proof glass at White Castle on 8 mile and Sherwood on the Warren side.
Been there many times definitely check your surroundings
I live in Michigan
Is it possible that location is the Greenfield and McNichiol (6 mile)
Detroit does it have a good part of town
I was in a few nice areas. I do generally like it up there. It's just... some of the ways maps has me travel to get from point A to point B was questionable.
Yeah, the sign at the city limits that says "You are now leaving Detroit".
The exact area is Linwood & Davison
The only reason I can think of that McDonald's closed that restaurant is its located in a very bad neighborhood. That happened many years ago to an Arby's restaurant in Youngstown, Ohio, on Market Street. Arby's on Market Street was located in a very bad area of the South side of Youngstown, so they closed it
I live near it and to be honest, the service was terrible. Several times they had no fries.
You going to Fairlane from way over there, you out the way
It looked like there was someone with a garbage bag in the trash area glad you didn’t go in stay safe
The franchise owner passed away…that’s why it closed and 4 others were closed as well
Welcome to Detroit. There are multiple abandoned McDonald's, and Burger Kings. Just hope that wasn't the Murder Mac.
How didn’t you see that person in dumpster area was like 5 feet from ya lol
