My God!Who needs a band when you got Ginger,a one man band all himself!Need I write another word? Like his approach to drumming was, sometimes less is best in the correct places!RIP,you truly made your mark Mr. Baker!
Love a good Drummer & have listened to many I now never compare & just admire their amazing rhythm skills the cement that holds any group together , as far as I stray I return to Mr Baker as simply one of not the good BUT the Great Drummers
***THAT IS THE FUCKING FIFTH TIME I LISTENED TO THAT SOLO IN 24 HOURS. WHAT THE ABSOLUTE LIVING FUCK. THE MOST BIZARRE, REVOLUTIONARY DRUM SOLO I HAVE EVER HEARD. WILL LISTEN AGAIN IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES***
I saw Cream play at the Whiskey in 1966. Eric and Jack were fantastic but you couldn't take your eyes off Ginger. He absolutely thundered in that small venue. How he managed to survive 20 years addicted to heroin and still play so brilliantly is beyond me. If you haven't watched it, check out "Beware Mr. Baker." That gives you a little insight into Ginger. Also, the 3 day reunion concert they gave in 2006 at Prince Albert Hall is earth-shattering. He lived for one thing: playing the drums. He screwed over practically everybody he came across, including his own kids and wife, and didn't give a shit. He was focused on drumming and that's it. He scoffed at the idea that he was a rock drummer. He was a jazz drummer and he always said so.
Peter Eward "Ginger" Baker: The general public is so fucking dumb, if anybody could think Bonham was anywhere near the kind of drummer I am, it's just extraordinary. Bonham had technique, but he could'nt swing a fucking bag of shit. Or Moony for that matter, I mean if they were still alive today, just ask them. Eric: Ginger was nothing like those players, his musical capabilities are full spectrum, he can write an compose an arrange. And he has an ear. And he is harmonic and he is a fully formed musician. Something to which, I concur with. Just one thing left out though, he is untouchable amongst all drummers from then till now. The master of all masters.
***it's like concentric rings overlapped by broken rings that fix themselves on higher plateaus... all falling around each other and then lining up 5 or 7 or 9 spirals later on but perfectly on cue with surprises twinkling unexpectedly sprinkling pleasantly --- its total revolutionary and startling playing, one of the best solos Ive ever heard Ginger play****

Thanks for recommending this Liz, what an introduction to Ginger. After this I watched the very old footage of Art Blakey and Ginger Baker duo, which was just absolutely mind blowingly incredible! They were just so in sync and in the moment. Another favourite drummer of mine is Neal Peart from Rush.
@@jimprior180762 yes, but neal peart is a newbie. Now try Ginger Baker duet with his son Kofi Baker. I’ve seen ginger drum so many times and I can tell you he’s a right bastard but I think he’s a genius and his brain is wired up dfferently than an ordinary person. If you’ve got time one evening watch “Beware of Mr Baker”. It’s a film about his life and you’ll see what I mean about him not being very nice!!!! He’s the only drummer I know who can drum four different rhythms at the same time. Amazing!!!!

“Its not how fast you play, its what you say!”
- Ginger Baker
- a ingenious quote from a virtuoso of the drums
Unparalleled integration of hands and feet (and heart and mind) - Ginger Baker is a master story teller without equal
The master of the 6 stroke roll and flams played so many tasteful ways. Love Ginger Baker.
My man Ginger badass Drummer, it's not how fast you play, it's what you say! He would often say. RIP Gingerman.
A very controlled sublime solo, typical of the great man. Rhythms which are his unique trademark. What an icon!
Always felt like he's listening to no less than 3 other drums in his head and what you actually hear is him doing fills within that conversation.

Cream did not need clapton .
Jack bruce had so much music in him ,that he really didnt needclapton. Why they hired him , needs to be seen!
I know, i am a fan , musician since the begining of cream.
Thank you for sharing this. Ginger Baker has a remarkable ability to let go in rhythmic expression - its liberating to listen to.

Very interesting solo.
the man.
I love how cymbals to him were a decorative aspect of his solos .
Yes. This is cause the African influence on Ginger style. Less cymbals. More tribal

It’s not a drum solo. It’s the complexity of his life put to a beat.
I think this Ginger fella has a place in a band, or perhaps 3rd seat in a well heeled Orchestra. - Toad
Fantastic independence of four limbs. Is the full gig somewhere? The bassist is Jonas Hellborg?

He plays drums with less effort than it takes me to shuffle a deck of cards. AND with better footwork.
