I have a fun story. So I'm In the Civil air patrol and was at an encampment, and we were all in the dorms shining are shoes and such, and I hear a cadet from my squadron say something like "Lt such n such, we spilled shoe polish on the carpet." then I hear the Lt yell "YOU DID WHAT?!?!?!?!?!". Apparently, one of his wingmen had spilt the cheap instant shoe polish on the floor. I felt so bad... but It was so funny!

No hate here, brother, but you gotta fix that grammatical error in the title. Should be "Shoes Say". And yes, spending a bit more for quality is always the way to go. Buying shoes that can be re-soled is not something young people are being taught today.

As with everything else, one can find excellent quality items for minimal cost at thrift stores, often in as new condition. The price one pays does NOT necessarily equal fine quality. If folk like to pay RRP. Taking good care of everything one owns is also a good policy. It is a simple matter to live frugally and have more money to spend of food and other prepping items. I still have the shoe trees my father used to repair our shoes in the garage, and often use them for mine. My favourite purchase was a used Toyota Camry LE, love it to death, and hopefully it will last the rest of my days.

Just for the record, a person who does an excellent job at shining shoes or waxing cars is not based on male or female. People who are detailed in the way they live life or folks who are, by nature, organized, are good at waxing and shining. The advice is excellent and well orated, just a few too many stereotypes.

My son is more of a shoe snob than I.
I wear chacos 98% of the time outside the house (barefoot inside) since being introduced to them 15 years ago. Regular people don't know what to make of chacos - it seems they think they're some kind of leisure footwear or something. Little do they know how great they are for farmwork, building, hiking, biking, walking in rivers, anything outside except for snow and wet when it's really cold, then break out the workboots. When I travel abroad, I wear my chacos and that's all the footwear I bring.
I still have the shoe shine paraphernalia I used to shine my shoes for work and church and stuff but it's been tucked away for years.
My son, though, he's got his shoe & boot collection. Although he's also a connoisseur of chacos, he doesn't go everywhere in them like I do. He hasn't reached the age yet where he doesn't have to impress with dress.

There is, however, one thing I would like to add about the particular topic of shining boots/shoes. You need a chopstick, skewer or best yet, a Teflon blade that you can use with a cloth to get the mud and dust from the lasts. Your spot on with kiwi polish, 82nd Airborne paratrooper approved. You left out the newbie tip, that little metal tab thing on the side of the can twists, that’s how you open the polish the right way. You newbs don’t have to open it like a popcorn tin any longer :)

True though, boys these days seem to not have anyone teach them to be a man, some it's hard to even tell from girls, not to offend anyone, I don't really care about looks, but they need to know how to be a man, learn how to do things , and how to take care of their selves, and a family, I have always had difficulty finding shoes, I was wearing a 13-14 when I was 14, I wear a 14-15 now, but I have duck feet, thick and wide! Ha-ha the hair I have I guess it comes from the 1/16 Cherokee blood I have, so its black, I live in the East slope of the. Appalachian mountains, in NC, cowboy boots don't fit my feets! With the difficulty's of finding shoes, I started wearing work boots to school, I didn't want to, bit a few years later, I started noticing ppl. Wearing workboots with Street clothes! I don't know if I started that style, but never noticed it before! I still wear work boots often, I have a pair of Doc Martins, dark brown, low cut, they are comfortable, but still painful! Good day!

I have crocks, dress shoes for slacks that I’ll never wear and my Justin’s for when I wear jeans when it gets cold down here or if I’m on a industrial job! I usually have crocks on or no shoes like a Indian 🤣 I hate shoes but I do take care of my boots and keep them sealed!

I shine my duty boots all the time. Something I’ve started recently is after using black wax only and getting a base for a while, I started using navy blue wax on top and that was made a much better shine on black shoes. I’ve dried dark and green and dark brown and they work well too. Goes from a good shine to a real parade style mirror shine. I’ll use black polish cream too here and there to periodically condition and supplement the wax.

So good to see you using your arm. I have sent prayers and it looks like they have been answered. Great Video that brings back lots of memories for me too. As a salesman all my life it was so important to keep shinned shoes. I cannot count the people who always commented on shinned shoes. Amazing and I always had a special feeling for people that did comment.
