Haha, I just posted about how I really like my Crocs for running out to take my dog for a walk real quick. I wouldn't wear them out in public, but for just kicking around they're pretty comfy. I don't know why I resisted so long, I bought them about a month ago.
This brings back so many memories of my dad and grandfather teaching me about this and being a young man learning about boots, belts & hats. Wranglerstar continues to be one of my favorite channels
I sat down to watch this. Looked over at my dirty boots. Thought about my date this Saturday and got to work, let's hope a clean pair of boots is noticed by this lucky lady!
My son is more of a shoe snob than I. I wear chacos 98% of the time outside the house (barefoot inside) since being introduced to them 15 years ago. Regular people don't know what to make of chacos - it seems they think they're some kind of leisure footwear or something. Little do they know how great they are for farmwork, building, hiking, biking, walking in rivers, anything outside except for snow and wet when it's really cold, then break out the workboots. When I travel abroad, I wear my chacos and that's all the footwear I bring. I still have the shoe shine paraphernalia I used to shine my shoes for work and church and stuff but it's been tucked away for years. My son, though, he's got his shoe & boot collection. Although he's also a connoisseur of chacos, he doesn't go everywhere in them like I do. He hasn't reached the age yet where he doesn't have to impress with dress. 73s 😄
I found myself transported back to 8th grade (1984) when my dad sat me down and taught me how to polish/shine shoes. Kiwi shoe polish, toothbrush, old socks and a horsehair brush. He’d use a bit of spit between coats for his work shoes and they always came out shining and glossy. Great video and glad to hear your arm is getting better from your last video. God bless you and yours Cody.
I understand if you have bad feet or bad back that can make a difference. But I have gotten more comments on a pair of 15 dollar shoes (they were half off of 30) then any others that I have. No they don't last as long, but I get 6 months out of them and then replace them. To each there own I guess
There is a difference between wearing shoes where the soles are falling off or the upper part is becoming thread bare and shoes which are bit dirty and worn. I think, if the first thing you look at when meeting a new person is their shoes just to see how well kept they are, you are being slightly though on them. They might not be able to afford really good shoes, or be able to maintain them. Or don't have the time to maintain something whose purpose is to separate you foot from the ground. People shouldn't think twice about what you wear on your feet unless it poses a hazard or something.
@@fattguy21 Shoes should be important to everyone. The right shoes can change your life. If your feet are not happy, you can not be happy, and feet are not as happy when they are wrapped in ill fitting, poor quality junk.
Sucks I didn't grow up learning these things, I'm 18 and I've never polished a shoe in my life. I've always viewed shoes as a protection for my feet, never as something to display for class or status, but I can see the pride in polishing shoes.
Dan Gunnarsson pretty sure just by looking at someone you know if they take care of them selfs or not judging someone by there workboots is just silly there the one bit of footwear that people will just abuse and not care for
Man, I really appreciate the effort and dedication put in to these videos. Cody, you’re one of the best. There is, however, one thing I would like to add about the particular topic of shining boots/shoes. You need a chopstick, skewer or best yet, a Teflon blade that you can use with a cloth to get the mud and dust from the lasts. Your spot on with kiwi polish, 82nd Airborne paratrooper approved. You left out the newbie tip, that little metal tab thing on the side of the can twists, that’s how you open the polish the right way. You newbs don’t have to open it like a popcorn tin any longer :)
I was too quick on the trigger, got side tracked and I don’t want to edit my post. Thank you for everything you do Wranglerstar family! Cody, again, thank you for creating an avenue for some boys to get in the right frame of mind.
Great video Cody. I have my father's old shoe shine kit. He never really taught us how to shine our shoes, but I learned from watching. Thank you. This brought back many fond memories. Stay safe and God Bless.
Same little kit I had when I was in the service. Kiwi and water made my boots so shiny you could see yourself in them. Thanks for the great video great memories for me here as well.
from what i'm told, polishing your boots in the service is a BIG DEAL, to co's. lots of memories for guys in those canvas tents, polishing their boots to a shine on a friday night...
If you ever go to a really hot humid area like a rainforest a camp shoe like a croc is essential. You can walk into river water without worrying about something stabbing your toe.....black palm thorn etc. You also use them at night as you hang your boots upside down to dry and keep scorpions out the Crocs will allow your feet to begin to dry until you get into your hammock. This foot drying at night stops trench foot.
I dissagree: appearence is a essential part of a man´s actions. Wearing a 80$ pair of shoes or a 400$ one is telling little about your character - heaving them neglected and dirty, or clean and well maintained says a lot about a man and his attitude.
Philip Malaby I disagree, I typically dress in athletic shirts and shorts but I often enjoy working with my hands on engines doing other “country boy” things
I love the feeling of crocs and slip slops, and if I can find an excuse I'll wear my slops, but there is nothing that stands out more than a nice pair of polished leather shoes.
I came to Brazil as a missionary. Brazilians like their shoes. A nearby town had an American School who a lot of the American missionaries sent their kids to. The Brazilian women who worked with the mission, said that they could always tell when the American kids were in town, at a distance, just by looking at their shoes. The American kids had tennis shoes that you could tell had never been washed at a distance.
@@thomast8539 I have known a number of people who wash sneakers, but you know what? When I stop to thnk about it .... the ones I have known to do so were all woman.
Japanese clean their shoes too. Regardless, dirty shoes are bad for hygiene and I cringe really hard on people who walk in their homes with filthy shoes after being out. Yuck. I swap immediately from shoes to home crocs. I then clean my shoes. I'm from east coast and also American. People who don't wash their shoes and walk all over their homes with filthy shoes probably have skid marks too lmao.
I got my current girlfriend of over 2 years because we both wore crocs. In my opinion confidence is what’s sets you up not what you wear. Of course you gotta take care of how you look but own what you wear it’s not that deep.
Wearing same pair of crocs for 2 going on 3 years, when I'm not working they make good everything but winter shoes and even then I wear them like house shoes, feet stay aired out when not doing any hard labor.
As a black guy from the northeast, I don't agree with a lot of what you say... But I respect you and sure do find you fascinating! I'm a bald guy, what color shoes am I allowed to wear? 😂
Yep. Here too. I have two pair Ariat cowboy boots black and brown that I wear every day. Brown buckskin for working outside and black for working my job and going out. More comfy than dress shoes and even wear with a suit. 👍🏻
I was told to never skimp on anything that goes between you and the ground: beds, tires, shoes :) Just took my favourite work boots to get new soles - after almost 8 years of daily wear. The leather still looks perfect (these are WORK boots, they see WORK). I just had to smile when I saw this video as I wait for the cobbler to call me. Brought back a lot of memories, and its so interesting that there is so much traditional wisdom around shoes and what they say about you, no matter where you come from, I've hears so much of what you said from my parents and grandparents. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face.
Never been a leather guy except for my wallet. I think I’ve wore leather shoes 5 times in my life. When I was younger I was in army cadets and had to maintain my boots. I have a collection of modern shoes and I take good care of. I also do the same with my hummer. 20 inch chrome and bf ko2’s. I have garbage bag of microfibre rages I clean every year to clean my vehicle and my shoes.
My father was in Vietnam and was trained to be obsessive about taking care of his feet. He always stressed me the importance of that. But when he got diabetes and would bump his toe or get it cut and it wasn't healing right really upset him that he had taken care of his feet for so long and now he was hopeless against diabetes wreaking havoc on his feet.
There is nothing wrong with keeping your shoes in good condition, BUT judging a man by his shoes is like judging a book by its cover. I will only judge a man by his actions. Politicians and lawyers often wear nice shoes, but I will never trust them.

I remember back, a long time ago when I was single and looking for love in all the wrong places....A girl sat down next to me and said something along the lines of "I can tell what kind of guy you are by your shoes." And I was wearing a pair of Chucks! Needless to say, we didn't "go to the prom" with each other that night! Well...a week or so after that, I was talking to my buddy and mentioned that story to him and his response was (very sarcastically) "So she saw that you had on a pair of comfortable shoes that conveyed you were the type of guy who had more important things on your mind than the style of shoes you choose to wear and she knew you weren't some kind of pretentious, materialistic, pompous ass....right?" And I just kind of sat there, dumbfounded for a second and then realized his sarcasm was on point. If your shoes are comfortable and you feel good wearing them, then screw anyone else who would judge you for your shoe style.

@@hayden8491 Shoes are important to some people; to others, not so much.

Man, I really appreciate the effort and dedication put in to these videos. Cody, you’re one of the best. Excellent reply,
That's the thing. The world is full of fools and whether or not we want to be judged by actions the majority of people judge by appearance.
I dissagree: appearence is a essential part of a man´s actions. Wearing a 80$ pair of shoes or a 400$ one is telling little about your character - heaving them neglected and dirty, or clean and well maintained says a lot about a man and his attitude.
