This is by far the best arsenal building video i have found online , really breaks it down and makes it super easy regardless of which ball brand you like
This gentleman has a wonderful way of breaking down hard to explain and confusing bowling terms in a great easy to understand way. Love your content. All intermediate players need to watch these videos. Even people that already understand this stuff need to see these. It’s refreshing to see them explained to where any player can understand how ball motion works and why. More advanced players can simplify it in their minds. Fixing bad ball reaction makes your scores higher. Simple is more efficient & effective. I’m a big fan of your teaching style.
Hey fam I just wanted to jump in and say "thank you" for the last coaching video you posted on arm swing. I decided to completely break down my physical game and I incorporated your technique on arm swing. Bear with these numbers because I used a new approach (Brunsnick with a slide instead of plant), your arm swing (getting the ball closer to the body and under the chin on the release), and used a brand new ball (Scorpion LF) I've never thrown before with a
I basically have two 3 ball bags. One is Asymmetrical balls, the other is Symmetrical balls. Each have 1 Solid, 1 Hybrid, 1 Pearl. This seems to be working quite well for me. My Symmetrical bag is actually all Zen (Zen Master, Zen Soul, Zen Pearl). Works out fantastic for me. My Asymmetrical bag is (Proton Physix, Katana Assault, Radical Innovator), that too seems to work very well for me.
Black Widow 3.0, !Q 78U (also my spare ball), Paragon Pearl, Idol (I know you have these as one category [Paragon/Idol], but the Idol is a nice benchmark ball), Deadly Rattler, Scorpion Low Flare. Edit: Your videos are short, sweet, and to the point and done in a way that is incredibly easy to understand!
I am loving my Scorpion LF! I also saw that Bowlersmart is offering a sale on the 3.0 for only $169 which is really cheap. Problem is that I really have too much equipment and cannot justify another purchase.
Thank you so much for this informative video. I would like to see how to build an arsenal for THS (short, medium & long), Sport (short, medium & long) patterns
Nice arsenal video Mikey! Up until a year ago, I was a Track, Ebonite, Hammer guy. I decided to rebuild my arsenal with SPI brands. Phaze 2, Duo, Hustle M-M, Pitch Black. I am looking to add 2 asymmetrical pieces for the top and middle to round out my bag....(non-SPI) Black Widow 3.0 and Black Venom should do the trick. The Pitch Black has been pulling double duty as the first ball out of the bag as well as my spare ball.
Follow up - I completed my arsensl with a Black Widow 3.0 and Motiv Black Venom. I got 1st place overall in a county level USBC tournament in April 2024 and I rolled an honor score 2 weeks ago (June). Good stuff.
Can we get a Mr Via to do the same type of video for us 2 handers?!? I appreciate your POV, just curious what he has to say as well! Great video, thank you!
Thanks for the vids and advice ! I had noticed that the camera shifted focus probably because it’s set to autofocus but try to set it to manual focus prior to shooting . Preferably around F4-F5 aperture to keep it locked in a bit more . Thanks again!
Great video Mikey! I've played around with all these balls except the Xponent and Attention Star, and narrowed my bag down to Summit at 2K wet sanded, OG Hy-Road OOB instead of IQ Ruby, and IQ-78 U also 2k wet sanded. Sometimes the IQ Ruby can be a little too angular off the spot and I find the Hy-Road hybrid cover burns up just enough energy to tame down that back end reaction but still conserve enough to make it off the dry when I leak it out to the dry boards too early and it still reads when you tug it in. The IQ Ruby is a bit temperamental for my rev dominant stats and leaves me less miss room than the Hy-Road. IQ-78 also handles spares and corner pins really well and it's become my comfort ball during really tough conditions. Thanks for making these comparisons as sometimes the ball stats and covers don't really match up to what you think they will do on varying conditions.
This is a very helpful video. I think this could be an awesome series where you highlight important aspects of arsenals based off of ball limits. For instance, I’m a highschool bowler (Michigan) where I have a 5 ball limit and and handicapped with a spare ball 😢 so I’m currently using my mix, fast pitch, summit, summit peak, 3d offset attack.
I just got a new arsenal and I'm really happy with it so far. For fresh oil I have an og reality for massive oil and if the reality isn't working or I have to have loads of control I have a purple hammer. After those I go to the Zen asura (same ball as original zen just different color) that I run a little bit of surface on. For when the lanes are getting a little toasty I have an original wolverine and if it's really cooking I have a burner pearl. And to fill out the 6 ball arsenal I have the most important ball in the bag aka the spare ball. TLDR: og reality, purple hammer, Zen asura, og wolverine, burner pearl, spare.
I am about to buy 2 new balls and i started second guessing my selections and if they fit my needs in the bag. You have 100% reassured my decisions. I have a Gem, UFO Alert, Phaze 2, Altered Reality and Pitch Black. From top down you Included the Gem, Attention Star (Have heard compares and fills the same spot as the UFO Alert from your brother Darren) and then Phaze 2. After that I was considering getting the Sublime and then the Zen Gold Label which you mentioned the Sublime and I believe the Gold Label fits the same spot as the exponent. Thank you for your knowledge and help, I appreciate you!
Thank you for making this! I currently run a 3 ball setup with the iQ 78/u, Tnt Infused, and Tour Dynam-X. Im thinking my next ball will be the Attention Star since I dont have a pearl and sometimes I need something a ball above my Tnt Infused. This video helped me a lot
Michael. Nice video. In the next video, can you go over lane moves differences between house and PBA oil patterns. Why is it that a bowler can not move left on a PBA pattern vs a house shot?
I am super rev dominant, here's my 5: Teal Rhino Pro, !Q Ruby, Ocean Vibe, Tropical Surge, and plastic. I think I'm missing a big asym pearl (like the Attention Star) and being rev dominant and loving my !Q, urethane (would definitely get the !Q 78U). Any thoughts?
Great video!! Built my arsenal very much like how you laid out here. I have Magic Gem, RST X2, Sublime, IQ Tour (Urethane/spare ball). Xponent pearl or Journey was on my list to grab. I have been debating back and forth up and down about if I should pickup a Phaze II or a Summit. I just am not sure how to choose between one or the other. Would you have any quick insight that may lead to help choosing between the two? Thanks! Keep up the great work
Gday micheal I bowl on a house pattern apart from doing tournaments. I have in my bag an attention asym pitch black, rubicon, mvp attitude, and mvp pearl. I normally start with attention then maybe pitch or attitude. Just wondering if I am doing the right thing. Thx u
hey Michael I have denfender exotic gem knock out IQ tour sneak attack pitch black and a spare ball what do you thing am I missing anything thanks great information
What would you build off of a eternity pi? I bowl on a sports pattern sunday mornings and I'm having trouble making decisions on what to get to compliment the eternity pi
All the balls I have are Asymmetrical and are good on fresh oil. Watching this video made me realize I do great at the start but after a while I start to struggle later on. So I need a symmetrical ball that’s good for later on. I was looking at the Summit peak or Phaze 2 for that but now you got me thinking about the !Q Ruby. Gonna stop by the pro shop tomorrow and see what they say. Also someone told me about the optimum Idol that’s coming out and that one looks great as well. Too many good choices to pick from. But Tbh I feel like I can’t go wrong with the summit peak, phaze 2 or the optimum idol. They all seem like solid options.
Great stuff, Michael! This is much more informative and helpful for improving my game. Phaze II and 900 Gold Label. Any suggestions? 15 ball speed 380-400 revs
I have the Phaze II, T. Dynam-x, Fate, and IQ Ruby. Looking for two other Asyms to fill the upper slot of my arsenal? Any suggestions. Where would the Fate be slotted at in the arsenal? Thought about the Sublime.
Hammerhead so I run a Web Pearl and a Dark Web solid with a WD spare ball or a Scorpion Sting with either the Scorpion Hybrid or the Scorpion LF and the same WD spare ball. They don't oil before my league starts so these bags give me the most versatility.
This is an amazing, in-depth video question for a league bowler who bowls once a week at the same house. And the same pattern every week. Would a hy-road, optimum idol pearl, and a phaze 2 be a good lineup for a league I currently have a PBA inferno 05-06 and a plastic ball from my high school team years ago and I still use them weekly.
BW 3.0 for the big asym, Theorem for a nice step down, Verge Hybrid for your big diff sym, maybe a Deadly Rattler or Cuda Pearl for your low diff clean sym. That would have you sitting pretty good with room for a couple X-factors. Maybe a Scorpion Low Diff and a urethane, purple or black hammer. Don't like urethane, replace it with a Zig Zag or Paragon Pearl or be like Bill O'Neil with a BW Ghost Pearl
Right now, my bag consists of a Hustle Wine, a TNT, and an Envy. I have the solid asym and the solid sym, and then I have the weak sym. So I'm just missing a massive hole in the middle lmao
Depends on your ball speed, rev rate, and your style and how you like to play the lanes but I’d probably recommend either a shiny asymm pearl if you want something that hooks more and is sharper than your phaze V, or a weaker symmetrical pearl if your phaze V hooks too much at the end of league
I have iq tour ruby pearl, original absolute, pich blue, pyramid pathogen solid symmetrical shiny, crux pearl and amf majic line. I wonder if this is a suitable arsenal.
MT, you have some great info on your posts. Ball reviews are so generic and is only as good as how you match up to the guy throwing it. The information you have been giving is something that any bowler can try to relate to their own game. Thanks, keep up the good work.

I tend to think there’s something wrong with my roll, like I don’t “match up” with asyms, but lately I’ve been thinking this just means there isn’t enough volume to warrant using them. Is that a reasonable conclusion?
If you're bowling on a typical house shot and get a big solid asym (gem, harsh reality, etc.) too far right, they are going to roll out on you. You either need to keep them in oil in the middle of the lane longer or go to something cleaner/weaker like an attention star, vebo or even a sym. You're not going to get those big hooks out of a big asym unless it's a flatter and/or longer pattern. Something a step or two down but still an asym can do it. I've been having a lot of success lately with a pin down Track Theorem on fresh THS.
@@wingracer1614 I am about to experiment with some pin down layouts on asyms as well. I see others use them and they look great but I seem to never be able to use mine.
