Well perfect timing. I laughed when I saw the title and what you were holding. I have the 634 and one leg started sticking this week. I thought maybe I got a lemon. Looks like I'm in the market for a new tripod. Thanks for all these reviews Jay, life saver!
I have had the 634 for 5+ years now, absolutely love it, from backcountry hunts to long range glassing with a spotter, to keeping in my ATV the rest of the year, hard to beat for a do all tripod. Match it up with a VA-5 and it’s been great!
Jay, I had the same thing happen to a Sirui tripod with the leg sections sticking. The plastic gasket on the inside of the leg that guides the opening and closing mechanism is broken. What Sirui told me is that it is caused by slamming the legs shut. Not sure I buy that (build quality should be better) but that was the explanation.
Nice 1 I like to hear the truth maybe you could help me I’m looking for a tripod for a Nikon p1000 , I have a tripod but it doesn’t feel safe with the camera mounted plus I prefer a lever for panning and tilting the head , any recommendations would be appreciated I will look over your older videos as I’m a new subscriber
Really depends on your budget. Any of the ones I mentioned at the end would be good choices. Also, I’d look at the Sirui VA-5 pan head for your application.
@@MindfulHunter sorry I got called away for evening tea, over the last few years I bought 3 tripods one was a cheap £20 just for using a spotting scope on for my grandson the other 2 I bought were a vivtar and x punk things, using those last two tripods cost not far off 300 more if I included a stabiliser for reducing camera shake on the p1 , one will do for my syonix night vision but I did see a manfrotto with the pan tilt head at £600 it sounds a lot but when I look back I think maybe I should have bought it , I see a lot of p1 s for sale or repairs where they’ve probably fell off a tripod as they are a weighty camera, maybe a bigger investment will pay off in the end. Even if I’ve got to stay in for a month or three depending how I cut my cloth lol
@@ttonAb2 there may be a difference between manufacturing processes with the different types of carbon fibre but I can tell you with absolute certainty that my 3lbs Outdoorsman’s aluminum tripod vibrates significantly less than my 3lbs Slik CF tripod. Both approximately the same height.

I gave some recommendations at the end of the video.

the 634 is great!
I just had to look at what model slik I have, because I love mine. It’s indeed the 634.
"So your saying there's a chance?" ... you'd use it again Jay?😂
🤣🤣🤣

That’s very interesting. I want to open it up now and see. I know I’ve slammed those legs shut a few times.
Good stuff man! Always keeping it real!! And that new logo looks damn good!!
Yessir!
It was a pleasure to chat at the MHE. Caught me off guard studying your bino review days prior just to run into you
Great running into you man. Such a good show!
Awesome review. Appreciate it period I wonder if some graphite powder would help the leg extension issues ?
I think would likely help even if just temporarily
I've been using the 634 for quite some time. Just picked up an Outdoorsman's tall classic tripod. Quite a bit heavier but a lot more solid.
Both great! Just about to review the new carbon from Outdoorsmans
@@MindfulHunter I can't wait to watch it. Looks very nice and 11 oz lighter but the sticker shock is high.
@@torreyintahoe that’s a fact man. See if it’s worth it.
Sounds like the carbon leg sections are manufactured slightly too big ?
Definite possibility. I also think with these cheaper tripods the manufacturing tolerances aren’t super high so could only be an issue on some units.
Holey moley dude, that’s a catastrophic fail. A shame as well because he hey do look great on paper.
Yep. Not good.

@@MindfulHunter Thankyou I will have a look at the items tonight and the pan head

You mention the carbon fiber vibrates more than aluminum? I would have thought that would be reversed.
Stiffer things transmit vibration more. Aluminum is more dampening than CF.
@@MindfulHunter
That’s what she said 😅
@@redpillnibbler4423 🤣
It is reversed, carbon fiber vibrates less than aluminum of the same mass.

Great stuff. I'll take that tripod though sir... how much $$? Lol
Go to forged the backcountry spend at least $50 and I’ll throw in the tripod for free.
