I have used a Canon 1 Dx Mark II since 2016. After watching videos here on the Canon R3, I decided to buy one. I love the larger camera body, and love the eye tracking autofocus for my Macaw family photos/videos. Great video, thanks!
The Canon R1 is simply the Canon R3 Mark II. Just look at the premiere dates of Canon and its competitors a few years ago. Canon simply slept through and the Sony A1 and Nikon Z9 were shot. Marketing had to find a solution for 24 MP vs. Nikon 45 and Sony 50 in A1. They called the premiere Canon - R 3 and conducted training for the brand's managers to talk nonsense about the work on the R1. This work has been going on "supposedly" since 2021. This is a complete camera refresh cycle.
The R3 is lighter than a R5 with a added battery grip. I have two R3s and weight is not an issue. Also the run time is amazing. I love the R3. The only issue may be size for gimbals etc as you need the DJI rs3pro for it to fit.
Thank you for the material. He gave me a lot and showed me the conclusions. Unfortunately, you can't beat optics, distance and atmospheric pollution. I also have 200-800 but I also use Sony. I'm thinking about changing and you're surprised to switch to 300 2.8 plus + teleconverters. There are no perfect solutions except... Nikon Z 600mm F/4 TC or Sony 600 mmm F/4. As for photos... hmm... you have to get closer, lie in wait, etc. I also mainly walk and take photos with my hand. Unfortunately, the percentage of good photos is marginal. Light and ISO are defeated by a dark lens. F8, F9 or F11 are a very big challenge.
Insane video of the bears. We only have koala bears here in Australia. (Seriously koala are no relation to bears - they’re marsupials 😂). Just bought an R3 at an insane price. Oz dealers are clearing their stock it seems for a new model. Great video. This YT channel is a gem. Subscribed.
Bro, first time with the R3? You've been missing out! The 4K normal video profile is good enough, you don't even have to shoot in clog-3, it looks that good and you will notice the quality is a little sharper than the R5
I was disappointed in the quality of the R3 images compared to the R5. I owned the R3 for 4 months, sold it, and went back to my R5. The R5 isn't perfect, but I found the image quality exceptionally better than the R3. I also did not find much difference in AF between the two cameras. The amount of fine detail in the R5 images is much better than that of the R3. If a person were going to use the R3 for video full-time, then that would be the only case I could find where the R3 outperformed the R5. If the R1 is a 50MP improved version of the R5, then I will be buying one. If the R1 is 24 to 30 MP, then I will pass and go with the R5 Mark II.
Curious, I heard the R5 had many problems like constant freezing, overheating, sometimes needing to pull out the battery to make it work. What was your experience with the R5 you have?
I’ve put over 30k shots through my R5 and never once had it freeze. Overheating has also never been an issue although I’m a stills only shooter (but I live in an environment where summer temps exceed 115 degrees and find myself shooting the R5 at 105 regularly).
I just got an R3 as well. So comfortable! Most ergonmic body ever. Great feature set and at the used market prices right now, its an incredible value.

Why would you say that the R3 AF is the same as the R5? No one has said that ever. Hope you do some more testing. The R3 AF is miles ahead of the R5.

Yeah, I think it produced great quality for sure!
