@The King Did you mean just performance? Or implying you think that the card needs to "support" 2k? Even a 5500XT could *theoretically* game on 1440p, provided some games were old enough or settings turned down (tbh though I've played games on much older hardware if it's 44fps and not a shooter it's not the end of the world or to turn a setting down). If it's really identical to a 5700XT it's closer to intro to 1440p. I'd say 5700XT aged a bit by now but I still consider it an intro to 1440p, depending on title, like for example I can game on a 1440p monitor and get ~60fps on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided all ultra or close to 75fps on Witcher 3. So, if the cards are that close to performance, yeah just plug it on and turn your computer on and go.
Nowadays idk I'd recommend that card for 1440p though and consider something like 3060ti to be closer to the intro-to-1440p mark due to more demanding titles. It's just that when they say "1440p card" what they really mean is nearly all games can run at least 60fps on it at all ultra settings, however that's clearly a potentially specious metric in that you can just turn down some settings or be satisfied with under 60fps. Believe me I suffered on crazy frame skipping, stuttering mess with XCOM2 when it first came out and I still had older hardware because I didn't prioritize PC upgrades at the time, which was so bad it felt weird to play XCOM2 with over 60fps smoothness all ultra after having dealt with the under 60fps and stuttering for hundreds of hours. (i.e. lower your standards for better results in disappointment if you don't wish to pay more for shiny toys/business machines)

@M Honestly sometimes it helps us by devaluing excellent hardware so we don't have to pay the premium that people buying memes do, i.e. paying nVidia. Me personally I'm glad I got RDNA, but the problem is, it still allows nVidia to Overton Window their way towards redefining "midrange" to be over a thousand dollars eventually, and that requires actively devaluing nVidia to about what they're worth, which in 3060's case is about $300 maybe. (yes, I'm serious. That's how far the price creep gouging re-normalized this b.s.)
But it also stands to reason comparison to previous generations should be made, and that's including the pricing, so in other words talking about the complete lack of actual progress or better deals aka stagnation. I think a part of it is also reaching the quantum limits of transistor densities too though, and Alder Lake is only the beginning for expansion of die space both vertically (AMD) and horizontally (Intel). So eventually we'll see huge, absolutely massive GPU dies because quantum mechanics prevents us from making working 0.5nm process. So, there's that.
All this stated yes you're absolutely right. I think the cards got shat on a bit too much considering how inefficient, juttery, power sucking, pricey$$$ and overall disappointingly uncompetitive nVidia has become in my book. They banked all their money on gimmicks and settled on proprietary raytracing and if this was any normal card launch AMD would've mopped the floor with them because of their stunningly terrible value this past gen. If there isn't any huge scalping epidemic this summer-fall then I think you're going to see nVidia's true value, which is comparable to AMD at best now, RDNA3 probably below it, possibly even losing their halo product in the process with a RX 7970XT beating the 4090ti.
AMD just fucked up down the stack by greedily putting a laptop GPU on desktop and calling it 6500XT, hoping to make money while offering gamers more options but just looked bad, even though nVidia looked no better to me by shoveling future e-waste and diverting all those GPUs directly to miners.

Same for the RX Vega 56.
And we've now even come to the point where the equivalent 2060 card costs 150+ bucks more when you buy them used... Honestly I think I was kind of lucky buying that 2060 when it came out. This card honestly should be bought only if you are desperate, i can understand the poor 1440p performance due to memory contraints but all the rest just has little to no excuses for this price point.

The PCIE x8 decision is truly baffling. What in the world were they thinking!?! So in order to get 100% of the 6600xt's potential I have to upgrade my entire system to a PCIE 4.0 system? That's crazy town. Good luck out there AMD, you'll need it.
