The GPU landscape is crazy right now. Almost have to sell your kidney to get one. I sold my old RX580 8GB for $290 CDN at the beginning of the year then watched the resale value double shortly after that. I'm well set in that regard (got a 3080) so I don't mind but it's insane.

Why complain about the MSRP when the MSRP has no effect on the actual price that you can find them for? Nothing is available for MSRP, people charge what the market can bear for them, with retailers probably often paying more than MSRP even when buying wholesale.

The Radeon RX 6650 XT should've launched at $149 or less and the RX 6600 XT should've been $129 and the RX 6600 should've been under $100 like $89 MSRP.
So yeah, right now considering the Radeon RX 6600 XT is now about to be replaced by the RX 7600 XT it shouldn't be any higher than $100 new right now and that's being real generous to AMD.

A good number of consumers just want the best of the best. When they saw how much we were willing to pay for a card, they figured they could continue charging that much. With the new consoles out though, if you want a GPU to last the next 5-6 years or so, the 6800XT would be the one to get if it could be had for MSRP.
But with the crossgen period also being way longer this round with games still being developed around the base Xbox One, maybe I'll just play on low at 1080p for another year or two, because what's even the point if the games that'll actually leverage the new GPUs only come along when they're halfway through their lifecycle?

People must remember the Gen4 / Gen3 issues are even greater of a concern when you are talking the 8x bus these cards run on. If you run this on a older Gen3 platform that usually would be no problem with a 16x card like a 3060 but these being 8x cards take a much great hit on Gen3 systems. It's essentially the same bandwidth as very old Gen2 16x when you run this 8x card on Gen3 spec.
I have five of these 6600XT left and just yesterday finally replaced my last 2 B450 boards with X570 for Gen4 support and more M2 Gen4 slots. Great deals though, sold a Tomahawk B450 for $80 and bought a brand new Asus Tuf x570 for $80. Very little upgrade costs from selling off these older boards for newer. Granted some games have very little gains on Gen4. Sad they would make these 8x cards as they know plenty of people would pair these more budget ranged cards with older systems.

Most 3060s are about $550 right now, so based on actual pricing, 30% more for the 3060 for at most 10% more performance or at least in the games I'm going through right now, and considering FSR2 and RSR (which WILL get better), the 3060 has nothing on the 6600 XT other than slightly better crappy ray tracing which I wouldn't use anyway until you're talking about mid range GPUs being able to run it while maintaining at least 90% the speed without it.
I think it's kind of why Wendell from level1 said it's about the best buy right now. Really the 6500 XT is the best buy when you can get a 2 fan config for $220. I mean that's half the cost of the 6600 XT, but I wanted something that's running high frame rates @1080p for this build.

After having this card for two months now I can say that this card is okay at best. First off it has a bad coil whine in games that have uncapped frame rates on menus/loading screens. Train Simulator of all things is the worst in this regard (frames rate in the thousands! in loading screens) but was fixed by limiting the frame rate. I don't have the fan quirks that were shown in this video. The fans don't even turn on until the junction temperature hits 60 C where they run around 1350 RPM and goes up and down with the junction temperature. If the junction temperature drops to 54 C they turn off.
Control is the only raytracing game I own and it absolutely kills this card. It's the only game I have to run at 1080p and even then the framerate still drops into the 20s at times with raytracing on. Flight Simulator is also a rough one but it's still able to run it on ultra at 1440p over 30 fps most of the time. Other games that I have like Resident Evil 7, Forza Horizon 4, and GTA V can run over 100 fps on "ultra" settings although there's some stutter at times especially in Resident Evil 7. Not sure if that's due to my older CPU (Ryzen 2700X) or because I'm on a PCIe 3 motherboard.
I think under normal market conditions this card would be $250 or perhaps even less. At MSRP ($380 for this model) it is way overpriced and at the scalper's prices it's ridiculous.

The bigger problem is that the long term effect of this would possibly be this inflation would permanently drive the tiered card prices up. It would be a shame to see future mid range offerings being offered at 400 dollars while high end market starts north of 1000. I fear these orgs have already realized for a fact that this exhorbitant leaching would still fetch them customers in the longer run even after the pandemic. So they will keep up this practice to stretch their yoy margins. The days of pc as master race seems to be on the verge of an end, even a console at 900 dollars makes way more sense at this point.

So I only have one complaint about this video. You guys are consumer focused, but I haven’t seen you talk about the recurring issues many users have with ULPS on AMD cards in the videos for the 6000 series. I got a 6600 XT (upgraded from an RX 480 because it won’t keep up anymore) thanks to these videos; and the RTX availability for 2070 supers & 3070s not allowing me to get one. That and the 6700 XTs and 3070s are priced 3-400 above MSRP, while the 6600 XT is only 160-180 above MSRP. So the value statements in the video got turned on their head. Unfortunately, I had to do Reddit and google digging to find out why both 6600 XTs that I bought and exchanged were making my monitors not wake up after shutting off, and flickering random colors during gaming. AMD fundamentally undermines their own stability by enabling ULPS by default when you install drivers for their cards. This issue has effected their entire line for multiple generations now, and IMO, a consumer-focused channel should include that info in reviews when the RTX hasn’t had comparable stability problems.

Gaming consoles just make PC hardware pricing look absolutely stupid right now.
The Series X APU is probably a similar power to the 6600XT - more powerful if anything - combined with a 3700X. Yet the whole console is just $120 more than the MSRP of the GPU by itself.
The whole current state of the GPU market is basically like paying launch MSRP for the 7800GTX a year after the Xbox360 came out. Which nobody did back then even when the 360 was new. PC Gaming was a tiny niche compared to the consoles until the 8800GT came along and made it something people could buy into.

At least it's a realistic RRP for the current market.
Bear in mind RRP might as well be imaginary anyway. While fab supply vs demand is so constrained, Radeon needs to sell at a premium to be worth AMD letting it have 'any' capacity next to Ryzen.
Maybe supply will equalise more in 2023 when new fab facilities come online maybe - then larger profits can be had from the larger volume sales of servicing the 200-300 price point instead of letting resellers get a monopoly of that pie. Until then, maybe I'll take up origami or crocheting or something.
