    One of the neatest things about Mercedes was her unmistakable unique voice.

    I had the pleasure of knowing Mercedes in the early 1990’s. She was a lovely, intelligent, and caring friend to
    me and many others. Also a brilliant stage actress to the end of her days.

      She was a brilliant actress, no denying that, but also a terrible mom.
      She, according to some rumors, didn't even shed a tear for his dead son and even her 2 grand-daughters.

      @@terron7840 don't talk about my cousin that way. And it was his choice to commit suicide and it was his choice to kill his children and it was his choice to embezzle all that money she was doing well on her own just because she was well off money wise doesn't mean she's under any obligation to give her money constantly give it to her son for all we know he could of embezzled all that money because he gambled to much and had trouble with some loan sharks. You never know.

      dr strangelove she was so commanding, going toe to toe with her male counterparts in King’s men. Excellent performance!!!!

      Did she win anything for her short but awesome role as Bick's sister in Giant? And to nopw find out she was the devil voice in the Exorcist!

      She also played a witch in one episode of Bewitched in the classic comedy. A rather wicked witch Carlotta who tried to blackmail Samantha into marrying her wimpy son .

    Millands mind-blowing and incredible performance as the drunk in the lost weekend is (imo) the best drunk performance in Cinema history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D LMAO at Tolsick though, I would have give him some credit, he was on a train in las vegas 36 years ago.

    Nice, short speech. Most actors and actresses these days go on and on, oblivious to how ridiculous and self absorbed they look. Julia Roberts winning for "Erin Brockovich" was the worst - she was meandering, and one point kind of rude. She didn't even think to thank Erin Brockovich herself.

    I saw this movie a few years back. Really good movie. It is so sad what happend to her son. He killed himself and his wife and two daughters.

      Because they starred together in a western Johnny Guitar. In the movie their characters were antagonistic to each other and it spilled into their working relationship. It got worst as they worked on the movie especially the crew would cheer Mercedes a lot more than Joan.

    I would have given it to Ethel Waters. She was amazing. Come to the Stable should have been nominated for NOTHING. What a piece of schmaltz that thing is.

      Agreed about Come to the Stable. And I love Ethel Waters' saintly mom in Pinky too. But Mercedes McCambridge gave the single greatest supporting performance I have ever seen in All the King's Men. Absolutely riveting as hard-assed Sadie Burke. "Are ya? Are ya? Are ya?" And she had the greatest reaction to a slap in movie history.
