  • In this video I take you through the process of organising my most used tools for my CNC 6040 Router. I got the insight that I spend to much time searching for my tools when I’m working on projects with my router.

Double Flute Spiral End Mill Set :bit.ly/2LAf2Zf
    Ball Nose End Mills:bit.ly/2PNjozd
    ...
The more tools I collected around my machine, the bigger this waste of time seemed to get. Instead of my tools being something that helped me get stuff done, my tools started to become something that took ownership of my time.
I stopped with what I was doing and put all my tools from the cnc 6040 router workbench together. first I removed all the tools that weren't used frequently. The most used tools: Hammer, calipers, tape measure, parallels, wretched key and wrench 10,15 and 17 got a place in the top drawer of my workbench. The collets and end mills went in the second drawer.
To make sure that I never had to search for these tools I designed custom tool insert for the drawers. The shapes of the end mills and collets where pretty easy to model in fusion 360. The tools from the top drawer where much harder. To save time, I used a photo scanner to get a picture of the tool in the CAD software. Now I only had the trace the contours of the pictures and the custom drawer design was done. Milling the tool insert on the CNC 6040 Router was pretty simple and took only took a couple of hours.
Working with the CNC 6040 Router has become more fun after this upgrade. The time I spend setting up the workpieces has decreased quit a bit. Also cleaning the workshop is becoming easier because everything starts to get it’s dedicated place.

Your videos are great! As a CNC newbie, it's very helpful to see these start-to-finish videos that demonstrate some things you can do with the tool. I think they are well edited, too. Cheers.

This convinced me to get this machine. The price performance is just right for my needs i think.

Great idea! I built my own router table and currently building a metal brake/folder to make the drawer, i didnt think of using wood drawers lol

I really like your videos on the 6040 CNC. I bought one and need to put it into Fusion 360. Do you have a machine file for it? Mine is like yours except it had linear rails. If you could share that it would help me understand how to make any necessary adjustments for my machine. Thank you for your time and effort.

Make a dust shoe that attaches to the spindle so you don't have to stand around for 40 mins with the vacuum. I 3D printed one for mine that has a brush that attaches with magnets so I can change cutters easily. Also make/buy a cheap cyclone so your vacuum doesn't fill up every 5 mins. Once I made these I could let the machine route more or less unattended.

Would you like to share the CAD design of your 3D print?

Hello! Do you happen to have a manual for this machine? How did you set it up w the computer?

It's a good idea, but make the trays more general shape. You tend to get more tools and lose some over time. What the heck has happened to those wrenches though?! Why they're cut from the other side?

Is this the USB version with 800watt spindle?? I'm thinking of buying it for wood.. What do you think of it

Very inspiring my friend. I will have to think long and hard due to the massive amount of tools that I own, but I love what you have done. The pocketing was a real gem to me. Here I am thinking labels are good stuff. I am thinking layers of extruded foam can allow me to layer deep drawers.
    Cheers from Australia
