I can't adequately convey how thrilling it is to see two intellectuals carefully and honestly examine an issue, with a sincere effort to be objective and also to lay out and examine every possible bias. And Prof. Loury's exposition of the cultural overlay of tribalism which makes it difficult for us to seek, much less achieve objectivity, is spot on. Hearing this level of discussion, after wading through cable news and Twitter, is like a drink of cool water in the desert.
These are two idiots that believe in a conspiracy theory. This is no intellectual conversation here.

It's amazing how misconstrued these cases are. Trayvon admitted to drinking lean. What's in lean? Hard candy, juice and cough syrup. What was he going to the store to get? Hard candy and juice. The news made him seem like a kid out to get snacks. His best friends were gang bangers. He was not just walking down the side walk. He was amid a townhouse complex. He also admitted to getting in a lot of fights. He was suspended 3 times that year, at least once was for a fight. Witnesses saw him on top of Zimmerman landing shots on him right before the gun went off. His photos from around the time show him looking hard and getting high. And on top of it Ben Crump put a fake gf on the stand. Why are we supposed to be outraged by this case? It sparked a national rallying cry to end racial discrimination in policing. Crump should be disbarred for this. It's been over two years since this doc aired.

I found your commentary very interesting. At roughly the 52 minute mark you take up for Trayvons parents. You need to remember they were in on the hoax and willing to put a man in prison for a crime they know he did not commit. They profited off the false narrative of the criminal case.
They might not have known it was a hoax. They might still believe their son was a victim. Hard to say. That or they might feel guilty.

I dont know if Joel Gilbert is correct or not but it makes sense when you consider the fishy stuff around Rachel and her part in this whole thing. Lying about her age, nickname, the letter and the phone call.
cuzz63 In the trial they asked her questions about the phone calls she had with crump and she couldn’t remember any of it and made some lame excuse about how she didn’t want to talk to him.

If you read Gilbert's book, you will find he has - unlike the court - exercised due diligence and presents all the evidence from hundreds of pages of text messages which speak for themselves. His follow-up detective work in identifying the real actors and those complicit in the bait and switch which the court overlooked because it did not fit the narrative. Zimmerman, like Kyle Rittenhouse, should never have been charged - fortunately both were acquitted, but both suffered terribly from prosecutory over-reach.
I live 30 minutes from Sanford, we had a short window of truth that the rest of the country did not see. It was immediately changed when it became more about race. I am glad there seems to some answers to the confusion I had over this case.

All this could have been avoided if the Police ignored their Chief's orders and just arrest Trayvon for those Robberies.

Holy shit - I've ignored this podcast bc I thought "meh - T.Martin...that's played out", but had I known it was _this_ juicy, I'd have watched forever ago! Lol. How have I not heard of this already!?! Why wasn't this huge news!? (I know why - but still)
This was the beginning of the press instead of reporting stories, instead started writing stories...
I was skeptical about the Trayvon Martin case at the time but I had no idea the prosecution was as corrupt as the documentary showed. Its also clear that there must of been scores of people outside the prosecution team who knew that Rachel Jeantel was not Trayvon's girlfriend but said nothing. Luckily the jury acquitted Zimmerman but would that be the case today?
The main lesson that needs to be taken from the Martin, Brown & Smollett cases is that the media rushes to judgement way too fast, establishing a narrative of black victimhood that they maintain by silence even after the truth emerges. I was saddening to see so many, both black & white shouting 'hands up don't shoot' at recent George Floyd protests, years after that story was debunked. Anyway, its good to see some open minded discussion.
What is even more sad is that prosecutors side with the media narrative, ignoring the facts, as also happened in the Kyle Rittenhouse case.

the movie was well done. something that hit home to me was when Zimmerman's lawyer asked Jenteal to read the cursive

Wow! I am very impressed that you guys came out with such courage and told the story. The recent rittenhouse case brought me here. The judgements of both cases were completely different than what the main stream media propergated. How could both juries who examined all evidence be wrong? I started to wake up.
The documentary about this false witness is pretty convincing.
It's dishearteningly to see how the justice system is slowly failing.
Also, how couldn't the defense attorney find out? In order to build up a strong defense it takes money , and maybe they didn't have enough to investigate all.
The prosecution withheld evidence from the defense. The defense team had to go to court to get the information only at the last minute. They didn't have time to investigate this

Zimmerman was 1/8 black. His 1/2 black grandmother lived with the family and helped raise him.
Thank you for this conversation. I have seen the film, & honestly I didn't know what to think. It is urgent, though, that we ALL realize that its not just "the other side" that is being lied to. We have to look for evidence about things we're told. I want to hear the truth, even if its hard to hear. Our silos of different fake realities are scary.
Also its important to note that Zimmerman is Hispanic. Its also important to say that ZIMMERMAN WAS ACQUITTED AND FOUND NOT GUILTY. Why didn't you guys believe him even after he was vindicated?

I think the only person certain to have had knowledge of the switch, from what the film implies, is Sybrina Fulton (!!!!!!) outside Rachel's household. It's even possible her mother did not know. Maybe the book makes it clearer.

This is the perfect case study for why any neutral (as one can truly be) person is trapped in a nihilistic haze. I’ve tried to do a little digging after seeing this doc and I’m just stuck.

Have you watched the documentary 'murder on a Sunday morning' Would love to hear your input. Very much enjoyed this video, watched the trial online and was very happy about Zimmerman acquittal and saddened for the families that this had to be brought to trial. The hoax documentary however gave this important part of history a whole new way to think about it and implications on society
That's an amazing film. I haven't thought of it in years and now I'm going to rewatch. It's almost a film negative version of the Trayvon case in that it is a story of a black teen who was really framed. The public defenders in the film are classic documentary subjects and pop out of the screen.

So let’s address the very last statement in this video. And this is coming from someone who lost their 21 year old child, and got NO justice or help from the police in an “investigation”. What you said is true, that is their Son, and they deserve the respect and acknowledgment of their loss. But…….there is a harsh reality that they (as myself) need to acknowledge. That their Son, and themselves, need to bear some responsibility for the outcome. And as we learn more about this case, that responsibility seems to be growing in my humble opinion.

You try to show respect with opinions and balance it so impressively. You two should be in main stream. When a person can’t change your mind, add to your point of view, have a discussion the way you two do, then there is something wrong with you. You make sense. They can’t contribute to the conversation. Their brain activity isn’t the same. They take basically the first thing exposed to. Like how we were fooled by this hoax. I was fooled! Kids doing it, be taken and investigate the homes. Those little kids need saved. Trayvon was once an innocent beautiful baby that his family loved. What was he taught. If it wasn’t parents. It’s the street. But then.....what are those parents willing to do to keep their child from turning out like that and dead. I would literally go to the ends of the earth for any of those babies. Of course it’s sensational. They wouldn’t (and still might not) attention otherwise. It was a tragic situation all around, but George Zimmerman was railroaded and he’s probably unhappy about it.
After 6 minutes, two professors have yet to clearly and accurately state the premise of the lawsuit. This could have been done in the first 30 seconds. I'd hate to be a student in either of their classes. I'm now at minute 8:30. This is unintelligible. If you want to understand what this case is about and why it's so important for Americans of every race, simply watch the Peter Schiff interview of Joel Gilbert, author of The Trayvon Hoax.
The real issue everyone ignored is municipal court reform, municipalities relying heavily on traffic and parking tickets rather than taxes to pay for local public services, disproportionate impact of those tickets on minorities, etc. The solution is that you focus on rehabilitation for all minor offenses and waive fines that people can't pay.
The focus on police shootings distorted the actual issues most people deal with and shifted public attention onto topics optimized for clickbait. It isn't that surprising that some people will lie and demonize a perceived enemy group if they know lying will get public opinion behind them.
The real issue is people thinking taxes are a necessity.
Or the city deciding it needs the money when it doesn't.

I'm not arguing that people should face no consequences for breaking the law simply because they're disadvantaged. I support having a system that changes people's behavior so they don't break the law rather than either letting people evade responsibility for actions that impact other people or using fines that disadvantaged people struggle to pay as a major revenue source.
There is no film of what happened, and only one participant was alive at
the end of it. If George Zimmerman was armed, it seems odd there were
scars (which NBC misinformed the public there was no evidence of, as
well as originally claiming Zimmerman was white) on the back of his
head. The only conceivable way that George Zimmerman could have those
injuries to the back of his head, was if he had been pushed to the
ground. The way Trayvon Martin was shot, seems to back up George
Zimmerman's claims.
Trayvon Martin had some injuries that damn Zimmerman that the prosecutor ignored. Trayvon injuries were a gun shot wound in the chest, as well as, lacerations to his knuckles. It is obvious that Zimmerman found Martin and specifically started attacking Martin's knuckles. That is the only possible outcome /s

I find the whole thing disturbing in a few ways. First is that the prosecutor would not investigate deeper before deciding to indite. Second and even more disturbing is that the media abused it's power of the press to promote what is now coming to light as a false narrative. And thirdly and the most disturbing for me is that a young man is dead. Why doesn't one single person discuss that minority kids don't have good role models? I stopped watching the first 48 because of that. Almost every murder victim was a black male between the ages of 18 and 30. I studied martial arts in a very ethnically diverse school. I entrusted my life to men of many races different than my own and I would still walk through fire for any one of them. This behavior of violence is learned. Are gangsta rappers promoting a positive role model? I don't think so.
I appreciate the objective nature of the discussion about this case, but I doubt role models and true worldly (Not text book) education will enter the discussion. Look, I'm an old white guy now. I hope before I die that black community leaders will address the problems in the black community. The potential of a life lost at such a young age can never be truly calculated. And that is the recurring underlying tragedy.

Falsifying a witness is unforgivable, and if true, should be prosecuted. There's no doubt that Zimmerman initiated the incident because we have the 911 call with the operator telling Zimmerman to stay away because police were on the way.
Martin may have been a thug, but so was Zimmerman.
If there is no doubt that Zimmerman initiated the incident because the dispatcher told Zimmerman to stay away, how come you nor anyone else can explain exactly how Zimmerman initiated the incident? After Zimmerman was told, "we don't need you to do that", Zimmerman said, "OK" and then stopped running. What is it, exactly, that you think happened *after* Zimmerman stopped running?

Gilbert's case is very convincing, the fact is he did get out the car and he was advised not to follow this young man. He claimed he needed a better description, according to Gilbert. I don't doubt that as citizens of this country we are manipulated by both sides to accept narratives that serve political interest. Zimmerman, could have avoided the situation, if he had not followed Trayvon, knowing he was armed. I believe Zimmerman did follow Trayvon Martin. Gilbert is convincing but he is still presenting a narrative. Only two people know what really happened and one of them is deceased.
That's where I'm at too. I think Trayvon could have very well initiated an assault on GZ, but I don't buy Zimmerman's heavily practiced version of events fully, or that he didn't even think about his firearm until Trayvon noticed it. I'm sure GZ got out of his truck full well knowing he was armed.

@@bradlee2594 The reason I think Zimmerman ignored the advice (its speculative) Zimmerman according to the transcript, reminds me of a bull dog barking to intimidate its subject the only diiference was that Zimmerman was armed. I think he was confidently attempting to intimidate this teenager. The transcript shows Zimmerman narrating this person move. The dispatcher tell Zimmerman not to follow him he says ok but continues to narrate. The other issue is Zimmerman is standing still saying he is moving towards me, he is staring at me. He is running, he also says these punks always get away with ... he also adds by the time you get here he will get away. So deductively it seem like a showdown with a overload of testostrone energized by a weapon.
The bottom line is Martin is dead because of Zimmerman's initial actions, not Martin's reaction.

The spot where the violence started is the same spot Zimmerman previously provided an update as to Trayvon's whereabouts, when Zimmerman said, "He ran". And 3.5 minutes elapsed in between the time Zimmerman said, "He ran" and the start of the violence. You have to understand the layout of the neighborhood and where this all played out to understand what I am talking about.

Zimmerman, while still inside his vehicle, said, "Shit, he's running". Zimmerman exited his vehicle 8 seconds later. 12 seconds after that, the dispatcher advised Zimmerman he did not need to follow. 11 seconds after that, Zimmerman said, "He ran". So 31 seconds elapsed from the time Zimmerman told the dispatcher that Trayvon was starting to run and the time Zimmerman provided the last update as to Trayvon's whereabouts. "He ran" meant. "He's long gone".
*Even more detail:*
Zimmerman had gotten out of his vehicle and then moved toward the spot Trayvon had run away from which is also where Zimmerman lost sight of Trayvon because Trayvon ran South behind a town home (1211 Twin Trees Lane). When Zimmerman arrived at that spot, 31 seconds after having told the dispatcher Trayvon had begun to run, only then could Zimmerman see to the South. 3.5 minutes later, the violence started.....at the same spot.
The evidence indicates Trayvon ran far away and then returned. All of this is based on evidence, not speculation. The evidence contradicts the "narrative" (and/or speculation) that Zimmerman ignored the dispatcher.

Secondly, I just watched the film that these two fine gentleman discuss. Thirdly, I recently watched the documentary, “The Fall of Minneapolis.” What has the world come to?

The only thing I left scratching my head about was diamond and Rachel, I was extremely uncomfortable at his description of diamond. It felt like a parody for much of the doc.
