- 1934 27' Chris-Craft Custom V12
The 1934 Chris-Craft Custom was the top of the line Chris -Craft at the time. It came with a standard 309 engine and an optional Scripps V-12 Engine. This particular boat is only 1 of two with the Scripps V-12 engine.
The original boat was so badly deteriorated that only 7 parts of the original boat are in this restoration. The skilled woodworker that reassembled the boat used original parts to replicate new ones, and technically speaking this boat is a restoration. Join us as we talk with the owner Russ and take a tour of this magnificent example of a boat.

Why does EVERYTHING designed in the 30's look better then EVERYTHING designed today??
Maybe because you’re a boomer?? 🤷
Valid point!
People took pride in what they did back then and they built beautiful things to last, not throw away. These are my favorite boats of all time, not the more recent models. These are almost too beautiful to put in the water.
Money
@@HammAlexander can’t take it with you
The Rolls Royce of boats - the most beautiful ever built and dreamed to be able to own one
It sure is, thanks for watching!

Work of art doesn't even begin to cover it. What a beautiful testament to the craftsmen who built it.

I’ve always loved these older Chris Craft , I’d love to own one
They are functional works of art
Chris Craft...pure artistry.
Poetry and beauty in motion
Chris Craft boats. Nothing but beauty and elegance. Has been my dream boat since I first saw one on Lake Erie in the 70's. They were in A lot of movies from the 30's.
They are spectacular boats. Pure beauty
Wow !!! Superb workmanship ! Beautiful boat most people don't have a clue about how much work goes into a project like that !!!! Nicest old Chris I've ever seen !!!!!
She’s definitely a beauty. Thanks for watching
I can't imagine the hours it took to refurbish this boat. It's a beauty. Great job sir!
Time AND MONEY
Old friend that moved from Texas coast had a beautiful Chris Craft wooden boat from this era ,he moved to Florida coast and hope hurricanes didn’t take it
Thanks for sharing
The engine is a Scripps Model 302 engine of 894 cubic inches. It was designed and spec'ed for fire trucks, hence the twin spark. This was near the top of the line for a boat engine in this era. And it is a beautiful boat, built in an age that still regularly turned outstanding woodwork and engines like this into rich men's playthings.
Thanks for sharing and for watching !
I have always LOVED these boats since i saw one in the 60's! OUTSTANDING!!💓💕💕💗
We agree!
once they invented the fiberglass hull era , all attention to luxury and detail went out the window , it was all about getting em' out and selling them in volume , then again , those boats made boating affordable ,
Truth
I seem to be attracted to anything made out of wood, including boats.
This may be a technical restoration, but to me, it was essentially built from scratch in 3 years.
That's intense.
But can we talk about the interior(s)?
Thanks for watching!
She is a true Ship of Theseus.
Outstanding
Indeed! Thanks for watching
Exelente quento questa restorar
Yes it is. Thanks for watching!
looks like something Grace Kelly would be seen in crossing the Bay of Monaco with Prince Rainier. head scarf flowing and him with captains cap,
Yes it does! Thanks for watching!
Super Babe Boat of a Kind . Now Lets see her FLY 💫
Beautiful boat. I would love ti see it in the water.

Agreed. Thanks for watching
It's too nice to put in the water.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful boat👍👍🇨🇦
It really is! Thanks for watching
Beautiful boat very nice
The craftsmanship is amazing. Thanks for watching
Beautiful boat ...
100%!
What a beautiful piece art in wooden boats,
It really is! Thanks for watching!
Scripps was NOT an aviation engine builder. Marine only: best materials, but low specific horsepower. Have brought many of them back to life.
Thanks for the info
simply beautiful
Agreed
I did an upgrade to the att site in the upstairs of the chris craft store in North lake.....some beautiful boats stored up there.😉
Awesome
What is the appraised value ? Has to be a love of labor ?
Nice job !😊
Not sure but I’m sure it’s pretty high, definitely a labor of love?
Awesome
Agreed
That had to cost a small fortune!
Yes it did! Thanks for watching!
Style and performance
Indeed. Thanks for watching
Gym Kansas City Missouri a masterpiece of wood and metal
Thanks for watching
Is it me or does the engine cover only covers half of the width of the boat?
Thanks for the question. That is way it appears however the other half was removed for the show, there was a elevated walkway that the boat was by, and they had to remove the one side so folks could see the engine. Thanks for watching!
A thing of beauty. I have a question for anyone. How do these classic wooden boats fare in salt water? I plan to move to an island and most boating in what's called the intercoastal waterway.
Thanks for the question. Hopefully one of our viewers with knowledge in this area will be able to give you some insights on that. Thanks for watching!
Is the finish on this boat a1934 type finish or more modern finish..
New modern material but as it would have been look
Our Chris Craft had a Cadillac V8
Sweey
How much did he put into it?
Enough to bring it to this stage, no idea on exactly how much. Thanks for watching
Yes but how fast does go?
Not sure but this boat is an elegant cruiser...and a beast
😮🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 it's identical to of Garwood but much more choice
Agreed
Check Garwood history if I'm not mistaken he owned Chris craft at one time
I Googled it it's not the same person but garwood's are very beautiful boats to
I believe that this Chris Craft was a prototype for Chris-Craft to see how well one of them would sell
These engines went mainly into Garwoods and Hackers, the Chris-Craft engines were no match for Scripps in either power or reliability.
Agreed
My Uncle Tom Carpenter built the other Scripps V-12 “bay horse” in the back yard/basement of my house.
That is sweet! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
And theyre still there cos he couldnt get them out 😂😂
Beautiful craftsmanship from a team of fellow Minnesotans, but please….”boat bumpers”?, how about “fenders”, eh?
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful boat...extremally weird owner....
Thanks for watching
Belongs in the water.
It is in the water frequently but he was nice enough to bring it to the show so others could enjoy. Thanks for watching!
A 1972 Jag V12 made 352hp, more than this aircraft engine..
Thanks for sharing
Bet it never will be afloat again. Look at my expensive toy!
It’s in the water every summer. These types of boats have to be kept wet and pliable
It's called a "console" not a "cown-sole".
Depends on what part of the U.S. your from. Thanks for watching
Should be Michigan made
Thanks for watching
Piece of art sitting on a piece of crap trailer… Clean that thing!!!
Art!
You think this is cool. You should see and hear one going for a rip on the lake.
We have. Ridden in several
UPHOLSTERY WAS AS FILTHY AZ!!???!! SPOILS THE BOAT!! WHY WOULDNT YOU CLEAN IT???
Lol, it’s not filthy
@@TwoGuysandaRide
Maaaaate in the video the upholstery is comming through looking filthy??!?? Nice boat!!
If you ONLY have seven pieces of original wood, and an engine carcass, you DON'T have a restoration, you have a repo, and the actual value, in my mind, is a tiny fraction of the original.
I found a bucket in an old shed with four Ford Model T spark plugs, so I built up a complete vehicle around them, using reproduction components, so now I have a "genuine" "restored" Model T Ford ??????? NOT ON YOUR LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I might offer $20K for your faux Chris Craft, but not knowing the provenance of it's reproduction, would be reluctant to put it in the water for more than a weekend at a time.
Thanks for watching
Beautiful craftsmanship
100% agree
In the old days, real "craftsman" with "pride" used their skills and talent to make everything with class, curve's, beauty, and still had functionality. Now, everything has no curve's, no style, just chop saw 90 degree corners! Guessing nobody owns a jigsaw, router, or a coffee cup to trace a corner..
You’re 100% on the mark
