The best part about Riki the Legendary Heropon is that despite the name, we hear this theme long before we ever meet Riki. The first time you hear the theme in-game is during a cutscene that has been memed to hell and back, and it’s hilarious both ways. “Crashing the mobile house into artillery? How long have you been in the force?!”
Each Xenoblade kind of has its own signature instrument. 1 is violin, 2 is piano, and 3 is flute. It really helps to mix it up and make each game feel distinct.
Also, super psyched for you to be playing this. This series is incredible, and truly one of the greatest JRPG series ever made. Monolithsoft is a truly amazing studio.
Jumping into this game without knowing literally anything is a blessing. I started playing XC because of the gameplay I was looking for, was immediately hooked by incredible OST and - to my surprise - kept playing for the story despite I haven't really cared about it at first. Have a good time there!
Definitely check your reactions whenever you're done with your playthrough to see whether or not your guesses were right or completely wrong Anyway your second reaction was hilarious and yeah, it sounds quite different 😂 I agree with you, the "Xenoblade sound" is a thing! But well, sometimes they don't care :')
The Xeno series is named after the Greek Word Xeno meaning Alien or Foreign. It's named thhat because the creator of the series Tetsuya Takahashi wanted to portray a story about disparate people and concepts coming together. The Xeno title is a carry over from the way back in Xenogears, which I believe you've played. The theme continued in Xenosaga and eventually carried on to Xenoblade, the newest series. The "blade", well that's a bit more spoilery. All I'll say is this series has a bit of a fixation on swords in general, and the word blade has also been used for various other weapons throughout as a catch all term.
Frontier Village is just... nice. It's a pretty simple, but fun melody you could easily hum along with. Whereas "Heropon", well, you know... it's weird. In a good way. (On a related note, if you enjoy the game, I'd like you to look up at some point: "crashing mobile house" for a hilarious Xenoblade YTP video by "Theaggyu". It's great and the fanbase memes it to hell and back for a reason.)
In the comparison to Final Fantasy, keep in mind that the story of the first game of the Xeno- fanchise was originally proposed for Final Fantasy VII, but was rejected for being too dark. It wound up becoming Xenogears, which led to Xenosaga, and finally to where we are now with Xenoblade as the spiritual successor to the franchise, each iteration seeming kinda like the lead developer developing and refining his original story further.
The 2 greatest character introductions in video game history. Goro Majima's introduction in Yakuza 0... and Riki's introduction in Xenoblade Chronicles.
16:51 🤣"probably calls themselves 'riki the legendary heropon' all the time" "quirky" "comic relief" "a character that walks weird, runs weird." couldnt be more spot on
Xenoblade was actually called “Monado: Beginning of the World” originally. The present of Nintendo convinced them to change it to Xenoblade to honor the legacy of director Tetsuya Takahashi, who had previously created Xenogears for Square and Xenosaga for Namco.
The first time i heard Legendary Heropon in game, i had to go on a hunt for what the song name of the second half was, cause i just *didn't believe* that it could be the same song. But nope. One piece. Wild lmao
Man the Legendary Heropon song is pretty much stock RUclips music at this point lol. Some editors must have great taste because I hear it all the time from big streamers.
I know you probably get tons of comments like these on every xenoblade 1 video but for Frontier Village specifically I really do prefer the original version. It's just a lot cozier to me! ☺️
Okay, I can't listen to this right now, it is WAYY too late for me and I should have been in bed 2 hours ago, but I just wanted to check and YESSS MORE XENOBLADE And just 2 minutes ago, too, it was destiny! X3 Thanks for the reaction, and thanks for the requests, requesters! ^^ I hope you had fun listening to it!
I just finished playing XC1 and XC2 back to back over the last 6ish weeks. Despite hearing all the incredible music those games offer over many hours...that guitar riff in Riki's theme gets stuck in my head more than anything else. I hate/love it.
Riki's Kindness is the best varient. Riki is the dad every member of the party needed, even the one who was the designated strong male mentor figure, and he stepped up in his own way for all of them. Not bad for a silly dolt in crippling debt.
LMAO "Riki, The Legendary Heropon" is the best track ever, always leaves everyone speechless. "I'm gonna play this game really soon" *proceeds to upload on the same day*
Without going into too much detail, "Xeno" means "strange" or "alien" and is a holdover from Monolith Softs earliest titles, Xenosaga Ep 1-3 and Xenogears. Xenoblade was originally called something else in development, and the "Chronicles" part was added to the international title. The most straightforward interpretation of what it is, is that the main characters swords is the "Xenoblade" but it's very easy to find other things in each game that fits the description and since no one ever calls anything a "Xenoblade" it's very much up to interpretation. It's not like in Fire Emblem where there is almost always a specific thing that is confirmed to be THE Fire Emblem of that game (Like the Crest of Flames in Three Houses for example)
Well i know you won't see it, but Xeno is sorta like a meta series name, it of course means strange/unique/unusual but it does have a meaning in each of the games, there is a Xenoblade in each game, even if they're never called that
If it's all right, I'd like to suggest Remorse by Scattle. It's part of the soundtrack of Hotline Miami 2 and that series has plenty of good and catchy music. I personally think that some of that can sound repetitive outside of gameplay, but in my opinion, Remorse stands out on its own and is worth listening to.
have fun playing this, but beware the sidequest creep. there will be lots, and they may show up for areas you've already cleared out and left later on, even if you don't have a reason to go back, there is almost always more sidequests to do
I find it funny that you say that Frontier Village doesn't sound like a Xenoblade theme to you, because I find it really on brand for Xenoblade 1 town themes. The only thing I can say about Ricky the Legendary Heropon is: meh meh. meh meh meh!
