Shook Ones Pt I sounds like the impending apocalypse, where the demons descend from above and the sky starts turning red. Shook Ones Pt II feels like the world post apocalypse where most of humanity has been eradicated. Both equalling haunting and visceral. Havoc was undeniable in terms of creating the darkest atmosphere in his production
Havoc is a genius. Very underrated, if rated at all. He produced all of his own songs, all of mobb deep songs, the majority of prodigies songs. He never skipped a beat! You just can't find any unpleasant beats that he's created. To top it off, he's underrated as an M.C. in my opinion as well.
Beats as good as part II, I don’t know if it’s just me but at the bit when he says “numerous ways that we choose to earn funds” and there’s a little “ooooohhhhh” before the beat drops again. Love it
Shook Ones Part One should be regarded as one of the top song ever made. Especially since it was made at 19 years old! That’s some Smithsonian level sh*t!
First time, I'm hearing this version. It actually isn't bad. Feels much more darker and somewhat, scarier than Part 2. I thinker it's harder and more raw as well. Part 2 has a catchy beat, that appealed to everyone,
One of the few rap songs that when I hear it, the hair on the back of my neck stands up...I literally get tears in my eyes...when I hear this and Part II, I think about where I was in my life, what I was doing...this shit was helping me get my head straight. Pure hip hop gold. Everlasting glory! 👏🏿💪🏿
I used to be such a west coast guy…now I worship at the alter of East coast..mob, Wu, biggie, and beasties. They beats and rhymes are so much more cerebral than west coast shit.
agreed...west coast is good for vibes, partying with bitches and casual cruising...but if u ever wanna get motivated to get hard shit done, up your testosterone or just feel like murdering, east is the direction
This beat is the essence of boom bap in my opinion. Minimalistic, subterranean atmosphere, filtered samples, basslines that sound like they're coming from an abyss, hard-hitting snares. I don't think anyone's made snares hit harder in their productions than Havoc. His technique is amazing. Absolutely the best music to listen to on a snowy night in the city at 3am.
I grew up riding my skateboard around town listening to this joint. After all these years, it still sends a cold shiver down my spine each time I listen to it. Edit: the sound of this beat is what I’ve always imagined the fear of walking the streets of Queens at night as a non-local would feel like.
