My Granny Sweety and her wouldn't be the best of friends!! My Granny is a mountain woman of the Appalachian mountains and can still swing a axe at 94 years old and still hug you and about break your bones!! Much respect for this woman!!!💜💜
thank you!
She reminds me of my momi who passed away a few years ago. Brang me tears
You mean they WOULD be friends, right?
I love it!
Lot of 80+ year olds are like, "I'd like to retire.
This woman is 83 and is like, " theres work to be done"
Amazing
Yes the work ethic is amazing, but they work smart .....we Brits seem to rush around and work like nutters ....if ya know what I mean.
@@yanksbrits1965 america is kinda like that tho. Hurray for capitalism I guess lol
@@dilly-dally-mations6851
Not sure why you are referring to America I referred to us Brits.
Their are many sides to America, not all Americans are capitalist nutters .....far from it!
I lived in West Virginia for 8 years, wife is American.
We have a lot of similarities to the Americans, but those are mostly based in the South of Britain .....the southern folks are really geared up to making money, as many folks in the north like Buxton where I was born & raised are mostly in Reverse ..... LOL
@@yanksbrits1965 I wasnt trying to put my own country on the spotlight, I just thought it was a commonality. You said that northern part wasnt as focused on the money thing, what did you mean by that? Just curious
@@dilly-dally-mations6851
Are you American or a Brit??
Well their are people in the North who are geared up towards business and making money but in my opinion I believe most people in the North of the U.K. are very set in their ways, very different to most Southern people.
I know you get folks like this everywhere but it seems to me that most Northern people will give themselves a Thousand reasons why they should not start a business.
The southern people have the attitude like many Americans ......Go For It!
Many people in the north are extremely set in their ways, I think people in Yorkshire are some of the worst, .....they Hate change!
I remember taking to a guy from Cheshire years ago who was working for a company in Yorkshire.
He told me it was a case of Change or the company would go bust, ....out of business.
5 people left in the first week because of the changes.
I believe these are many of the reasons why the British government have not invested some of the money into many Northern areas over the years, they know what many of the people here are like.
I’m a norther guy, but I’ve lived in the south and the US most of the time.
Salute to this incredible woman. She is really strong, inside and outside.
❤️
What an incredible woman!!
she truly is.)
WoW! The Northern Lights are the most beautiful thing on this planet! Have had the distinct honor of seeing them right up-front when I was a kid! I have a picture of The Northern Lights on my phone as a reminder!! What a truly strong woman she is! Reminds me of one of my favourite Sámi women that I am truly blessed and very honoured to have met and she taught me alot about the life and culture in Sápmi! I am indebted to her for life! 🙏🍁🦌
True human being 💚
💗
My Mother was born Raised in That region of northern Norway came to the states in 1951 . I'm proud to have those high cheek bones as sami
Absolutly something to be proud of 🙌🏼😍
I have a question are they considered white people cause a ancestry and 23 and me mentions that it's possible if you're from Finland you could have their ancestry
But are they Finnish people or is that different?
@@izzacreative8247 i don't think they're considered white, since they're indigenous people. they're not ethnically finnish even though Sápmi encompasses part of Finland.
@@flaviosouza3089 I was just wondering cause I have 10% Finnish ancestry and in the description it says it could also be Sami ancestry
@@flaviosouza3089 yeah like how native Americans are not white people because white people are mostly in America
But Sami people do look white in their facial features tho
When I can travel, I really want to come to this part of Norway to experience the Saami culture. These folks live so entwined with the land.
and we hope you will have a chance to visit Norway once the travel ban is lifted. in the meanwhile, have a look at this article about the Sami culture www.visitnorway.com/typically-norwegian/sami-people/
We are happy to hear that, and look forward to welcome you 🤩🤩
You need to know though, they aren’t dressed this way, that’s just for show.
Most Sami people have regular jobs and are urban people. Just a few families still do this and not the old way. They have snowmobiles, ATWs, some use helicopters as well. It’s a modern life, and nothing weird with that as is would be crazy the other way around😁
@@kokohero Nothing wrong with reindeer husbandry as a profession and nothing wrong with a Sámi person wanting to pursue something else than traditional reindeer husbandry/herding. There's also nothing wrong with wearing traditional clothes in a casual way; as a Hungarian I kind of wish we could wear traditional outfits without the perception or expectation to be an ultra nationalist or a weirdo. There is one couple on youtube (Remény Farm) who live on their land and as they cultivate the land also just wear traditional clothes in a casual way without being nazis.
@@varany3376Oh I have absolutely no problem with traditions or if people want to live modern lazy lifestyles. I do however have a problem when things get political. The Sami people have had their share of bad treats but looking at history- who has not?
Not what they do is trying to pull every beneficiary rabbit out of their hats and even though they are extremely few they exercise enormous power over heavy multibillion industries. No one dares crossing the Sami’s or they’ll get crucified. There’s no balance and no sane discussion, just support the Sami in every way or you’re an evil nazi colonialist.
wow! she is amazing. I'd love to see more videos about her. I was especially captivated by her story about lying in her hut and seeing the northern lights. I'm curious if she ever gets lonely? She must have family and friends that live in the area as well.
just saw the clip of the child with her! I'm assuming they were her grandchild (: so cute!
Gotta say, reindeer is a beautiful animal.
We totally agree...:-)
I wish it was longer!!!
I'm from the US, but I guess I'm descended from Sami people. I was always told my last name was norwegian, only to find out my last name had no norwegian connection, it's a Sami name. My dad told me my great grandparents were fishermen and raindeer hearders...I guess he wasn't joking.
I am from Norway, North of Norway. My Mother was Sami, I now live in Ohio.
I live in sweden and have relatives both in norway and northern sweden, the way this woman talks is like a perfect mix of the two parts of my family (hen she's talking in norwegian), incredibly fascinating to hear.
Much respect to her and her fellow people.
@Person Hello at least, it's better than you
Beautiful gorgeous lovely stunning animals.
thank you!
@@VisitNorway You are welcome.
Those are reindeer.
The shots with her riding the snowmobile 😍 She looked so badass!
Shes a Saami OG
What a fascinating slice of life. Karen Anna comes across as wise and a real character. The shots of the tundra are so beautiful and the northern lights are entrancing. I want to visit Norway and see the north someday. It's on my bucket list!
You are welcome anytime Robert....:-)
Imagine being in the mountains like that. You are with your family/group like the sami people has done for thousands of years. It is only the reindeers and water from snow that keeps you alive. Most of the winter is dark (no sun for many months). I'm studying sami language / culture right now and I found a story about how the sami people belives the reindeers come to earth walking on the rays from the sun ( Beaivvi lávžžit ). So the sun was both giving life to earth in the spring (when the sun came back after being away for months) and it also provided food since it gave the reindeers to them. Very beautiful imagry, I think, and it makes perfectly sense when your life only consists of daylight and reindeers and must be extremely happy when the sun finally appears again.
This is beautiful way of life..
big respect to this lady.
I lose it when my internet signal is slow !
Amazing survivor!
As a swede i understand her dialect better than people from Oslo region.
Samma här! Har själv bott i Norge i två år & träffat många från den delen av Norge!! Älskar den dialekten & älskar den här videon!
And as a Finn I understand some of the saami words from the joiku.
Not sure why you’d think that as she speaks in Norwegian.
@Cazumi She speaks Norwegian for most of it but switches over to Sami near the end.
@@cazumias a Norwegian I can confirm with a 100% certainty that she was speaking Norwegian in the first half of the video. she spoke Same the rest tho.
Wow!
I recently discovered my heritage is rooted in the Saami people.
amazing! be sure to check out our article about the Sami culture www.visitnorway.com/typically-norwegian/sami-people/
I've found some Saami ancestry, myself.
So proud- our grandmother's people.........
Of course! Hope you´ll come and visit the Northern part of Norway sometime, James!
Aww i love the sami. I used to go to Rovaneimi Finnish lapland every year, lovely people.
Mind blowing
Thanks! 🙏😃

Stamina and a lot of time spent outdoors, in nature.
Greetings from Lai Ram Land/Lai Lam land(Manipur).
Wow, very strong and sweet lady😊. I am traveling to northern Norway this summer if corona allows me😎
thank you very much for this lovely comment:) keeping all the fingers crossed for the borders to open this summer!
The greatest Karen
Thanks, Sailen :-)
But what if she insists to speak to the manager if the reindeer misbehave?

Какая сильная и прекрасная женщина! Природа Лапландии и женщина sami!
спасибо! очень рады, что вам понравилось!
I set of to tromso in November and I’m going on the reindeer sled. They are just beutiful animals
Can anyone do a transcript in Sámi please? I am learning. Thanks.
well, this will be quite a task. but we will make sure to think about it for our future Sámi productions!
I’m from Azerbaijan. A few years back did a DNA test and to my biggest surprise the results showed that my maternal inheritance is related to SAAMI people!!! All my life I considered myself being Turk. Now looking at this beautiful lady I can’t stop my tears how much she reminds me my dear late granny…
this is amazing! another proof that we are all connected:)
@@VisitNorwaydon’t be so happy to be related to him. azerbaijan is currently attacking indigenous armenian territories. they are from mongolia, not indigenous to the black sea like the people they are committing genocide on
Sami related thousands years ago, will look similar but doesn't mean they'll be culturally civilized the same. Unfortunately your comment came off a bit racist but at same time it's probably true as well.
@@kubyoindiya3269 I’m sorry if my comment offended you in anyway. I don’t see any racism in it. Just tried to share my feelings…
@@Cck883 no worries. I didn't mean to offend you too by saying that it's not related, but also it's very important to know that race or appearance is only a part of any heritage and so good to not quickly judge / Identify with another group because some will see that as racist; I'm personally indifferent about it, everyone has a doppelganger 😂
great scenery, i wonder what temperature it got to while you were shooting this? Keep up the amazing work! 👍
Cold and fresh! 😉 Thanks for your comment Nomads All Over The World.
In winter in northern Norway the temperatures are cold, can be easily -10.

Well. Thats the van I need! I bet they don't sell them here in USA
Not trying to be rude, just wondering. What was special about the van?
Arnøya Island is a little funny to say, since øya means Island. I get it, of course, Arnisland would be utterly silly ;)
I'm just seeing on Family Tree that I have Saami ancestry.

STRONG WOMAN reall vikings gens in her greetings from iraq
Hi Haron, thanks for your comment, greetings from Norway and have a great day.
These people have nothing to do with Vikings.
@Michael Sassi-Roberts
You do realize that some Sami people worshipped Norse Gods same as the Norwegians and Sweden 🇳🇴🇸🇪 right
they where even Vikings some of themself all though they had they’re own religion
The breaded with the Vikings in the north
And the people of Norway 🇳🇴 in Norway they spoke Icelandic 🇮🇸 from 700-1100 in the Viking times
@Michael Sassi-Roberts There was a Siberian influx 2,500 years ago. But these immigrants mixed with the Northern Europeans already there. So the northern european Sami aren't purely Asian and they never were.
Last name Lantto these are my ancestors
Hi Nephew, maybe you are Sami than...:-)
Almost sounds like ainu
I am from Denmark and some of it sounds like Juttish lol
😄
Santa is real and lives with these man here
She isn’t speaking sami she’s speaking norwegian with a very interesting accent
She speaks sami after 2:25 tho
She speaks sami anytime...:-)
@@oleanteShe speaks both. She starts out speaking Norwegian with her regional accent, then she starts speaking Sami later in the video.
The Finns are never the same as my Lapp folk, despite sharing a similiar northern boundary to the arctic. I miss my immediate ancestry and the harsh realities of extreme worlds -
Here in Norway we do not say Lapp, Norwegian Sámi night get offended. we hope you will have a chance to visit the Arctic.
@@VisitNorway I am of Finn-Lapp so what then do I call myself? - I have never had to visit Norway to know what my indigenous people are called - you are clearly a simple Nord!
Visit Norway exactly. seconding this for anyone else who reads. i am norwegian-side sámi and i don’t know a single sámi who likes the term. it was (and still is) used to hurt us by eugenicists and racist people and is not used as a kind word at all. sámi/sami/saami is 1000000x preferable
Shikira pressley with all due respect they are not “a simple Nord” they are correct. Lapp is used solely as a derogatory term, and was started by the people who took Sámi lands and children away. Personally I have not come across sámi who still call themselves Lapp unless they are very very old elders who were raised in indigenous boarding schools (and raised to be afraid to be proud of Sámi ancestors). the history of the L word is not a good one and would be good to read on. Also, as for what to call yourself, it is easy-you say finn-sámi or finnish sámi, it is that simple. we are of small enough numbers as it is-we don’t need to argue with people to divide us further! hope you stay well!
Well as a person with Sami ancestry who actually lives in Finnmark I will tell you that the word Lapp is offensive and nobody uses it, except if they’re very very old or if its said in an offensive way.
TOO COLD!~
The Sami has the NWHG DNA which was the oldest European DNA in Europe the first.
aren't they EHG?
As you can see the modern scandinavians is the closest living relatives to Kostenki 14, the oldest European human ever found. sciencenordic.com/ancient-dna-denmark-dna/scandinavians-are-the-earliest-europeans/1410116
Sami are mixed with europeans, so it makes sense.
No the sami's came from siberia to nothern europe and they setteld there. They are indigenous ppl originally from east asia
Their WHG admixture is not much higher (perhaps even lower) than neighbouring Scandinavian and other northern European populations.
She looks the same like a Russian grandmom.
Made a DNA test and I have DNA from this tribe. I am from Mexico ❤
Really? Well, you should visit the north part of Norway then! 😃
Como?
people* not "tribe"
Their lifestyle and culture are kinda similar to Native Americans down here in America....
😄🙌🏼
If you care about the Sami, move those wind machines out of reindeers paths
i want the clothes so bad
The clothes comes from the reindeer fur. What you are saying is you want to murder the beautiful reindeer?
@@swedishpsychopath8795without murdering beautiful reindeer nobody could have settled in tundra back in history. Reindeer gave nearly everything - clothing, food, shelter...
Its sad to know how these poor people got exploited just like any other aboriginal/indigenous peoples
so true.
If anyone is thinking that the Sami are indigenous in this part of the world, no they're not. The "Caucasian" type are more indigenous to the place and then the Sami and related groups migrated afterwards.
From USA I guess?
So tell me, whats the story of the Saamis since you know it all.
Samis are indigenous to the Northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland, even North Western parts of Russia as well.
If only the Northern Countries treated indigenous peoples well when they wern't being used as mascots for tourism.
thank you for your comment! this film was made in close cooperation with the lady portrayed here. And no, we are not using the Sami people "as mascots" in our storytelling.
@@VisitNorway So what are you using her for? If it's to highlight indigenous history in Norway, then you should at least mention the endless colonial oppression these people have been subject to.
It is mentioned when it's relevant. Why do you not let Sami people decide for them selfs how they want to portray them selfs? You talking over them, like they are not capable to do that them selfs, is you being a modern colonizer.
You might be right. Thank you for clarifying.@@daginn896
