    Wow, you've pacific islanders taken an interest in us Lapps - cool, and thank you. Fukk I almost cried here.
    I guess it's because there's at least someone out there who cares - because in reality, we're dying out.
    We who lives now is the very last generation. This very day a friend of mine brought up that very subject, that traditional knowledge is forgotten and I replied, so is the language.

    Fascinating. Just had my DNA analysis from Living DNA, for autosomal, mtDNA and Y chromosome. I carry mtDNA haplogroup V, which is typically a Saami maternal line, with 68% of the Sammi carrying that mtDNA group. Only 4% of Europeans carry that group, which in Britain makes me rare. Being from SW Britain, I didn't expect a Saami link. So do I have a maternal link to the Saami? Would be interesting to know.

    • @less3117
      @less3117 3 года назад +1

      You really need a ydna/mtDNA test at FTDNA to clarify your maternal and/or paternal heritage. Autosomal tests are not much use here. I am in England. My maternal haplogroup is U5b1b1, which is rare in Europe. Less than 1% of UK population have this, but around 50% of Salami do. It's often called the Salami 'signature' haplogroup.

    What is the truth is the Original Sapmi or Sami were dark haired dark skinned brown eyed Tribal people closely related to Samoyed people. They ere very much like Siberian indigenous people. In fact some sociologist or cultural scientists think the names or titles - Samoyed, Sami, Sapmi, Samoy are of the same origin. Before the centralised Swedish government came into existence,and and in early centuries few Sami would have had blue eyes or blonde hair. This mixture or intermarriage with Germanic, Finnish and Scandinavian people from the South came later.

      You don't know what you're talking about. They do not have dark skin at all, they do get frostbite and burnt, displayed in a lot of photos haven't been colored so maybe that's what you're interpreting as dark skin. They are a race of white or light skinned people. Yes, many had dark hair and dark eyes but many had light hair and eyes. The same is true with other white races. They've lived besides each other, even breed and shared many things from religion to ship building with the Norse until Christianity was enforced on all with bias and division that those types of religions bring. If you see a dark skin Sami they have some other race mixture involved.

Very similar to how Native Americans has been treated, tho Saami doesn’t live on any reservations. Preachers/Priests where sent to convert them to Christianity by force, kids taken away from their parents and put in boarding schools to become “Norwegian”. Not allowed to speak their own language or they would be punished physically. The government also sent Norwegian settlers north to take the land. How you colonize without necessarily killing them. +Xirdneth N'ghft-nyth Nope.

    • @daginn896
      @daginn896 7 лет назад +7

      +Linda Mikaaa Yes they are native people, but it is a missconception that native is a synonym for being first, which it is not by defenition, and nor were the sami's the first to populate the Scandinavian peninsula. The oldes archaeological evidense here are not associated with the sami's, and it is not found in the north, but in the southern parts. What is more, the samis migrated soutwards during the viking age, and they lived in a symbiosis with ethe norse ppl, where samis have been associated to "utmark" and the norse to "innmark". There are no traces of conflictes between the two groups, and no traces of sami culture in the southern parts prior to the viking age. At the same time the norse migrated northwards, yet again no traces of conflicts can be found, other than samis being taxed.
      The first archaeological traces conected to the sami ppl, or what later became the sami culture, is from around 10 000 years ago, and the came from the east populating the Northern parts of Scandi. However the oldest archaeological material from the first settlers are over 11 000 years old, and are conected to the Ahrensburg culture, which DNA are still to be found among Scandis today. However, several migrations have taken place to Scandinavian peninsula, among others neolithic groups introducing farming, which is alo present in the Scandinavian DNA. And because of that, also in Sami DNA. Point is that the Samis are no more native to Scandinavia then the Norwegians and Swedes, and they have goten the native status for being a minority group with long ties to this peninsula, not because they were the original inhabitans like many believe.

    • @daginn896
      @daginn896 7 лет назад +5

      +Linda Mikaaa And no dear Linda. You shoud really read up on your history before commenting. YES, Norwegians and Swedes are Germanic, doe Germanic equals being German? No. The germanic culture developed in Scandinavia and spread southwards. Large parts of what is Germany today, was once inhabited by celtic groups. Further more culture does not equal etnicity, culture is defined by language, material culture, religion and customs. The germanic ppl are not an etnicity, its an cultural group based on such criteria. Cultural ideas have always spread by diffusion or migration.

    • @Fiddling_while_Rome_burns
      @Fiddling_while_Rome_burns 6 лет назад +4

      The Sami are part of the Finno-Urgic group who migrated from Northern China to Eastonia and then in two waves to Scandinavia, the first migration was around 2000bc, these people became the Sami, the second migration was around 1000bc, these people became the Finns. Both groups so heavily mixed with the existing Scandinavians they lost any Chinese racial features, however retained their culture.
      As for a native people, they are really ethnically no different from any other Scandinavians these days bar a small amount of Finno-Urgic ancestry, which the Finns and Eastonians also have. That small amount of Finno-Urgic ancestry was the last to arrive in Scandinavia, however they mostly have Scandivian ancestry who are the native people of Scandinavia so technically they are a native people, exactly the same as every other Scandinavian.
