  • One of the least known nations of Europe are the Sami. They've been sharing the continent with the others for about 4 millenia, and yet they remained a unique and mysterious nation for most of us. I think it's time to rectify this, so in this video we will take a close look at the history, culture and challenges faced by one of Europe's indigenous nations.

Im sami. Half of our ancestry is from siberia from same people nenets and other samoyedic and khanty/mansi people came from.
This fact was used against us in very racist snd hateful way for long so lots of older sami deny it and even teach their kids to say that we are not asian..
But yeah truth is we were very north asian back in older times and still many of us look lot asian or native american.
Now we are all mixed with swedes, norwegians, finns, karelians, russians though, so our original north asian blood and look is fading away.
Sami "race" was born from mix of north asian and northern paleo european when north asian people started to migrate to north europe side over ural 4000 years ago.
Sami culture replaced the original northern european cultures as they all eventually mixed to us coming from east and to swedes/norwegians coming from south.
What is not talked about is that finnic people like finns, estonians, karelians, maris, komis came from some of the early sami leaving the sami culture and mixing and assimilating to indoeuropean farmers and iranians in volga river area.
So finnics really talk language from early sami but live culture of indoeuropeans and iranians.
Its still taboo to talk about for some reason even though its very obvious😂

Hi, our Sámi relative! I am Khanty/Mansi. There are many myths and misconceptions about our peoples. Let's start with one - Khanty/Mansi are "Asians", "Siberians" etc. Well, actually, we are only partially such. We are also partially Europeans or "white", but Indo-Europeans or other contemporary European peoples have nothing to do with it! Genetic studies have shown that our European "admixture" is very old, coming from times, when agriculture or IE languages weren't spread to Northern Europe. So our European blood is pretty unique for modern world. I believe that also at least part of Sámi European ancestry is very ancient, and you don't "own" it to Scandinavians, Slavs or whatever. Sámi inherently are "partially white plus partially North Asian" peoples just like ours are. And just like many Finno-Ugric peoples, actually. We have mixed origins probably already for thousands and thousands of years. We all have peoples having phenotypes ranging from blonde to black haired.

    • @ahkkariq7406

Thank you for your comment. I am Sámi, and have spent a lot of time trying to understand the origins of the Sámi people, and analyzing what I have found.
I firmly believe that the Sami carry most of their European heritage from the people who lived in the country before the Indo-Europeans arrived. Sami and Norwegians have more than 90% common gene mass. The legacy of those who lived in the country is more visible in the Sami language than the Norwegian language, as a large proportion of the Sami language is of unknown origin. Linguists believe these are remnants of languages spoken in the Paleo-European area. There are also remnants of this/these language(s) in Norwegian.
Although Norwegians and Sami have had different languages and religions, there have been common markers in lifestyle, clothing traditions and even parts of the religions. It is possible to distinguish typical Swedes, Danes and Norwegians by appearance. Since the ice retreated along the coast first I assume that Norwegians carry more of this specific "old" people in them than our neighbors, with the exception of the Sami, who I actually think carry more of this old people in them than the Norwegians. Let me point out that it is something I believe, not something I know. Call it an educated guess.
When other Sámi say that I am trying to erase our Asian heritage, they are wrong. I fully accept that we have some Asian genes. On the other hand, I try to highlight the heritage of the Paleo-European people. The Stone Age people who walked up after the ice.
I suspect that many Sámi are more concerned with the Asian heritage because it is what separates them from the Norwegians. Everyone likes to be special in the strange times we live in. I believe that we should love what unites us, and not what divides us.

One video I watched about Sami, spoke of three different Sami groups. So in most of the videos I have watched they say the origin of the Sami was the Ural mountain area. Most of the videos I have watched don't mention a Northern China/Mongolian connection. But even in this video you can see that connection in some of the faces. I'm hopefully not the only one to see the problem with giving specific groups of people the title of ''indigenous.'' I have nothing against the Sámi, nor do i believe the suppression/oppression of their culture is in any way warranted.
But the title of ''indigenous'' makes it seem as if they have a greater claim on Fennoscandia than anyone else despite them actually having arrived after some ancestors of modern scandinavians.
Also just want to mention that the definition of Indigenous given in the video is wrong.
    this is the ''real'' one:
Indigenous communities, peoples and nations are those which, having a historical continuity with pre-invasion and pre-colonial societies that developed on their territories, consider themselves distinct from other sectors of the societies now prevailing on those territories, or parts of them.''

The accepted theory is the Ancestors of Native Americans/ Amerindians arrived via land bridge 20,000-17,000 years ago which is more plausible and an accurate theory since many old world animals such as horse and camels also crossed the land bridge from America to Asia and some old world mammals crossed over from Asia to the Americas. One thing wrong with the Polynesia theory,no actual anthropologist date the habitations of the Polynesia islands until 5000-6,000 years mainly by Austronesian seafarer's.
Okay so the Americas were already inhabited before 6,000-5,000 years so before the Polynesia were inhabited by Austronesian / Polynesians, the Ancestors of native Americans/ Amerindian were already spread out across the Americas from Chile to Alaska. If they were indiscernible from fellow Scandinavians there’d be no talk about “the only indigenous people in Europe”. You’re pathetic.

indigenous are not the same as native. native is where someone is from. Indigenous is a people group that have been colonized.
Swedes came to southern sweden at around the same time as the sámi came to the northern part. The thing was that the sámi stayed up north, the swedes moved more and more north, expanded. And when they came to the north, the sámi people were already established there. And so they COLONIZED IT.
Swedes are native to the central and southern parts of sweden, sámi to the north. Sámi people only claim their part, swedes claim all.
Therefore, making swedes not indigenous, and not native to northern sweden (since they colonized it from the sámi) sámi people therefore an indigenous group of people.

There was this story of Swedes vs Norwegians and who the Vheking or Vikings were. Vikings were known as “sea warriors” like the Phoenicians or “sea peoples”.
Turns out Norwegians were the Vikings, Swedes were more into crafts, artistry, tapestry, music, literature, and development of culture. The Vikings sadly, were about rape, pillaging, and plundering. Likewise, the ancient Finns were slaves to the Swedes. The Wends, or Muscovy Ruse exploited this civilian culture. The Swedes in the 18th century went to war with the Russians Czar Peter the Great. Peter promised freedom for the Finns that helped the Imperial Russians. It worked! The Swedes were horribly defeated by the Russians and lost the territory known as Finland. Czar Peter created this nation as compensation for Finns help in soundly defeating the Swedish Monarchy. Today, many Scandinavians did not know that Swedes treated Finns as secondary citizens. The Finlanders never forgot the help of Imperial Russia under half German, half Russian Peter the Great. That all changed with time and the formation of the Soviet Union. Today, Finns prefer the term Nordic peoples rather than the divisive term, “Scandinavian “ because this term invokes a legacy of a period when certain Scandinavians ruled over the indigenous peoples over northern Artic regions of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, northern Scotland, northern Russia, and northern Siberia.

@@cooling123-vz8wb The battle axe/corded ware culture came to Scandinavia around 4900 years ago. The Sami came to northern Scandinavia perhaps 1800 years ago. There are many ancient Sami placenames that etymologically are borrowings from proto norse. I.e. there where Scandinavians in northern Scandinavia when the Sami arrived. Additionally, there are traces from an unknown language in Sami. The linguist Luobbal Sámmol Sámmol Ánte calls it Paleo-laplandic. So, apart from Scandinavians, there were a now lost people in Lapland, who the Sami replaced.
"Colonization" is only relevant here in the meaning that we have developed the country to a modern industrialized state. And we have done that everywhere. Without it, the Sami would not be able to continue with what they do.

Most of these immigrants having ties to large banking and financial institutions of the Old World networks of slave trading, opium drug smuggling, and weapons production and sales. It also became a smuggling haven to transport art and priceless archaeological findings back to Western Europe to be housed in fine museums throughout their capitals and the found gold artworks into gold bars housed in underground bank vaults of Luxembourg and Switzerland.

The Sami are no different than the rest of us. they certainly are not indigenous. To be indigenous they'd have to have 100% genes from the hunter gatherers.
they may have a higher percentage of hunter gatherer genes but its more akin to 25%.
thus they are mostly exactly the same as us.

To be indigenous, you have to be descendants of the original inhabitant of some region. It is not synonymous with "hunther-gatherers". For example, mayas are the indigenous inhabitants of Guatemala, and they practice agriculture.
