The only other time I've seen these indigenous people is in the academy award nominated documentary "Klaus". Can recommend it to everyone.
Same!
Margu was the star of that movie.
We Native Americans feel for your people and empathize with your pain ❤️
We Mongol horse, reindeer, and other livestock herders stand in solidarity. We too face the same challenges of this climate crisis and that western science should cooperate with indigenous knowledge.
This was so interesting! Plz do more of these types of videos! 🙏🏼
As a person with sami heritage, I was so surprised (and happy) to see this! You almost never get to hear about us in English speaking media
Me as well!
I actually realize that you exist 😅 when i hear of you but in a bad way but i really find sami people quite interesting and fascinating
How does this video only have ~7,000 views? When there is such an important message being conveyed
Indigenous people everywhere are threatened :(
Especially White Europeans
@Leo W
Well, you're not wrong.
That makes me so sad to hear that they struggle 😞
So the Sami people are what Frozen 2 was about? I’ve always assumed so but this video reaffirmed it.
I heard that they were inspired by Sami culture
I would have loved a lot more info about the heritage etc. As a finnish person I have very limited view of what their current situation is between different countries.
Please more!!
In 1978, I hiked to a Sami reindeer herding yard in Northern Sweden. The herders invited me to come with them. So friendly and kind, Sami have a wonderful culture that I don't think Swedes appreciated back then. I lived in Sweden for 4 years and I hope the attitude has changed. Anyway with the internet now the world knows of these amazing people who have survived for so long where few people could!
Dear Jannie, you look so svensk but the cultures are very different. I am fascinated by the Sami history. Also want to complement your nearly perfect English!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing!
I wasn't aware of the Sami people, their relationship with Sweden, and the effects of climate change on those who herd reindeer. Thank you for this informative video, it's inspiring me to be more sustainable and to better educate myself.
this is only one side of the coin, and some parts of her story is simply not true. so yes educate yourself but dont trust one source of information. best regards from sweden
I love this! Thank you for this insight!
This is absolutely fascinating, thank you for making this video
This was very informative and interesting. Thank you.
I loved this video so much.
Thank you for this amazing video.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sincerely hope the Sami can continue their traditional way of life for many many years
I’ve had a strange feeling of connection with these people for over 30 years. I met a lap lander in nz and it opened my mind and heart to the culture in that part of the world. So pure and unspoiled.
FYI the term Laplander is derogatory.
@@NordicSami how´s that?
Important representation!!
..thanks! Sami are the peaceful ones ..they know how to get along
In artic world ..they are honored unless they interfere with getting the

So pretty there..
💕❤👍
As a immigrant myself in this country, this was an eye opening. I feel your pain and I promise I will learn and teach about your cause.
Climate change 😅. Everything changes. The climate. The weather. The universe.
I’m Samí!!
Thanks , very informative.I know this questions is extremely sensitive but despite being white how come that a small numer of Sami do look asian in a way other scandinavians dont do?
That's a good question.
They look Asian.
Because many (not all) Sami people have Siberian ancestry. A lot of Sami men share North Siberian DNA haplogroups.
Distant Eurasian ancestors. The White Races and the Asian races share very distant ancestors, and in some the distant ancestors are closer in the family tree and affect the appearance this way.
You are yellow, kind of orange, brown with some parts black. ☺️
What are you so angry about?
Good meat?
😳😳😳😳
I am 1/2 Sami, we are not Indigenous people, we use the same modern technology as anyone else. Helicopters, Snow mobiles, 4 wheelers motorcycles and modern boat engines to herd the reindeers. The Sami is actually the late comer into this region, immigrating from southeast Europe only 2000 years ago. Germanic tribes had already settlements in the area where I grew up on the coast of Norway. And it is documented settlement 6000 years ago, 4000 years before the Sami entered the region. My mother's family were fishermen and farmers, not having their own flock of reindeer. Usually, they had a few reindeers in their relatives' flocks and the reindeer herder had animals that styed over winter with the settled Sami population who did not follow the reindeers. Usually cows, sheep and goats that the relatives on the coast would keep and feed for them in the winter months.
Both Germanic Scandinavians/Finns and Sami are indingenous. Norse people settled the southern parts of Scandinavia and Sami, in the northern Arctic part after the end of last Ice Age. After bubonic plague in Middle Ages, a lot of homesteads in the coastal area were abandoned and Sami moved in there from inland.
Why are you denying your own heritage? When people talk about Sami's special status in Norway or Sweden, they mean it as an indigenous minority, not as the only indingenous people in a country.
Good ol Christianity...

in comparison to voices in your community, science knew very little about climate change like 30 years ago...? is this really the line you´re gonna go with? people in the comments might be mindlessly clapping along like seals, but i´m unimpressed. the fact that the UN has decided to classify you as indigenous does not give you some special way of knowing things about the world, you use your senses and draw conclusions like the rest of us. sami participation is not necessary for predicting how climate change will affect arctic ecosystems, although I´m sure whoever is studying that would be ecstatic to have your cooperation in collecting data. with a chemistry background you´re certainly not doing that work, are you? this is once again ethnic activism piggybacking on a scientific issue, unnecessarily polarizing the debate. very counterproductive framing.
Based.
You know that they don't own this channel, right? They can't see your comment.
@@NebulaRanger fine by me, I´ll tell them myself if I see them around. My point is that the climate change discourse should stay as science based as possible if any results are to be achieved. Leftist frameworks have a nasty habit of mixing unrelated issues to a point where agreement with any point is interpreted by comrades and detractors alike as an ideological alignment. This is playing around with the future of not just our species, but our planet, and I don´t appreciate it.
the climate crisis is threatening the sámi raindeer herder way of life and harming raindeer. reindeer herders have noticed
@@cooling123-vz8wb if that was what the video claimed i wouldn´t take issue
not white and not Indigenous
Angry, why?
@@user-kz5cw2gj3w Not angry Craig, just correcting the faults that are in the video
What in the world are you on about? Sami people are indingenous to European Arctic. As for whether they are "white" or not - who cares.
@@pano2839 why not white? why not indigenous? explain. give reasons, don't just yapp
White and indigenous.
I'm more than fed up..why dont you speak your native language ?
Because you wouldn't understand it! Nor Swedish...so.
Because the video is for international audience.
because it's for an international audience, and the majority of sámi people don't speak sámi because it's been discouraged so harshly, the majority (over 50%) of sámi people don't know any of the sámi languages
