      Yes. They are a quality made product and super street friendly for low down grunt. Even the older ones like my pre '03 SEII's make start ups much easier on a carb'd scoot. So damn heavy but made to last.

    2010 FLHTK - S&S 583 cams and dyno tuned. I went with a Bassani 2-x-2 header with SE slip-ons. Great torque, good HP, exhaust note is barky under pressure, rumbles like it should, and most importantly, doesn't kill my ear drums when doing 70+ scooting down the highway for hours on end.

    I have a 21 roadglide Limited. I have a star 30/30 cam, S&S intake, SE headpipe, and Vance and Hines mufflers. I couldn't be happier. Take 600-mile trips often during the summer. The secret is buy SE system used. Most times, people just want to unload it. Cut and weld the proper size outlets. Paid 300 bucks for my SE header, 200 for the Vance and Hines mufflers.

  • @shep68
    @shep68 Год назад +17

    I've run V/H, Screamin Eagle, Cobra and Rinehart exhausts. IMO the only reason to run SE is if you want a tad bit more rumble but still keep the decibels down. There is very little to no performance benefit with a slight noise increase. Rinehart is by far my favorite choice. Sound is fantastic w/out being obnoxious. Probably some performance too, but let's be honest nobody is adding slip on's for performance. My current bike does have a full Rinehart with headers and it's performance is mildly better than slip on's alone.

      Appreciate this response. As a new rider, what you describe is EXACTLY my objective. I simply want more sonic presence on my ‘23 Fat Boy. I’m not looking for a performance boost and want to retain the look, though I have considered the shorter, downward curved slip-ons as I have heard them (in other videos) and liked the sound.
      Based on viewing several other videos, I too like the Rineharts, (though a recent video I’ve seen regarding Khrome Werks slip-ons REALLY got my attention).
      But all of this has produced a question for me, that I do believe was partially addressed in this video.
      Again, being new and trying to do research and hearing about this “Stage 1 Upgrade”, which again, I don’t feel I’m trying to do, my question is, if all I want is to improve the “sound” of the bike, i.e., make it a bit louder and give it more low end rumble, can I simply replace the “great looking, but weak sounding” stock tail pipes with a more preferred pair of slip-ons? Or will the bike then need to be re-tuned, taking me into the “Stage 1 Upgrade” arena?

  • @felipedourado5721
    @felipedourado5721 Год назад +6

    I have an old (and pretty reliable) 2002 Softail Deuce and I went back from a Vance & Hines short shots exhaust system to a full stock exhaust system again and I could not be more satisfied. I just could not bear that V & H noise anymore, especially on longer trips (thousand plus miles)
    Yeah, call me crazy but I just enjoy the silence more.

    • @darrencanady5078
      @darrencanady5078 Год назад +2

      Great post, Felipe!
      And “I” don’t think it’s crazy. I’m not looking for “loud”, but I would prefer a bit more rumble on my ‘23 Fat Boy, and the ability to make it known I’m coming through at low speeds, when lane splitting (which as a new rider, I haven’t yet done, though I’m comfortable with my low speed riding).
      Honestly, after watching SEVERAL videos that are comparing the different slip-ons, I did notice that I actually “liked” the stock sound. BUT, because I’ve really only listened to the bike with my helmet on and can’t hear or feel the rumble of the exhaust, it makes me feel like I need to upgrade the sound.
      I also STRUGGLE to find neutral on that thing, so I can’t really just listen to it unless I ride without a helmet, (which I also haven’t done).

    Hi 👋, Great content, in 1997/8 i purchased an FXR, 1340 , I did spend a lot of money on it, ignition, cams, et cetera and on it, I then fitted a pair of R&B racing MEGA-MEGS - DUAL it sounded amazing. , had a lot of comments, where do I get my pipes from , who made them , I traded the biking i’ve got more for it than I paid for it, I believe there was two or three people that were very interested in my bike, I then purchased my third Harley back in 1999/2000 soft tail Deuce, when I had done over 1000 miles, I decided to put some screaming eagle pipes on, Which at first I thought I liked, then, after doing some investigation and reading quite a bit about some other bits and pieces, I ordered from the USA, Drag Specialties / Ross Tom 2-1 BOOM CAN , oh my God, did this sound good?, And at the time I was the only one in Europe that had a pair, and over the years I had done quite a few of the European rallies, on one occasion I was riding out of London, pulled up at a set of traffic lights, a guy pulled up a alongside me in a Aston Martin open Top, he shadow out Phil how you getting on long time since I’ve seen you at Barcelona, he said he recognised my jacket and recognised my exhaust, they had never seen anything like it before, I believe the outer pipe was nearly 6 inches in diameter, sadly, I had to sell it in 2019, as I had been scammed by my ex female partner, I have now moved to France I don’t think she’s very happy, I hope you all ride safe, Phil from the moulin France

    Agreed. Most SE parts are pretty good but not their exhaust systems. Unfortunately sometimes when you want to retain warranty you have no other legal choice.
    In my case when I had a new 2019 softail I was able to buy an S&S Superstreet with catalyst. I used it with a stage 3 107 to 114 that made 118hp 122tq warranty & emissions compliant back in 2019.

    I guess I was really lucky! I ordered my UL while I was overseas and had it delivered to a dealer here in Florida. I asked that they do a stage one on it but I didn’t specify what parts to use. They could have used all SẼ parts but they didn’t. They put a V&H Power Duals header and Freedom Racing slip-ons on it. They did use a SE air cleaner they did it right and you can’t tell it’s SE unless I show you.

    I bought my road glide st new in 22, bought the screamin eagle exhaust because of the gloss black. It looks great but the sound wasn't there. After about 7k i decided to gamble and i cut the cats off since the muffler clamps behind it. Woke it up a bit but still wanted better sound. The small reducers at the end of the muffler held on by 3 rivets started coming loose so drilled them out. What a difference! Got that thump i was looking for and the butt dyno noticed a bit on the bottom end. Gonna tune it this spring and see where it sits.

    On my last bike I ended up going for looks and sound only. Who really cares about performance numbers on a full touring bike anyway? My last two bikes had V&H and the long distance drone wasn't worth the minimal performance gain. I've never changed head pipes but did add Screamin Eagle air cleaners, tuners and had them dynoed. I'm running CFR's now and they have a qualty deep but soft sound that only barks under throttle. Stock headers with cat on a 2017 FLHTK. Its all subjective but to me, that's the sweet spot.

  • @jimbeam4111
    @jimbeam4111 Год назад +3

    If stock Harley mufflers had removable baffles, you could just change the baffles out and replicate every aftermarket exhaust sound produced. All manufacturers mufflers are exactly the same with the exception of the internal baffles. Everyone is paying $700 for slip on mufflers when, if the stock baffles were removable, could spend $80 to tune the tone of the stock mufflers to the desired sound. Removable end caps would be nice too.

    I’m pretty happy with my screaming eagle mufflers on my trike I took out all the baffle rings and it gives me instant throttle response in torque I love it even with my new 110 bore with cvo cams and dark horse crank they still are great feeling ,

  • @johnsb1550
    @johnsb1550 Год назад +5

    You forgot to mention that if you change that exhaust system with a screaming eagle and have it tuned by the dealer, your warranty won't void. If you hook up ANY OTHER TUNER other than screaming eagle, the warranty will be void! As soon as they plug it in, they will know, and it goes into the database. When you're spending 30k on a bike at 8% interest, that's a factor.
    Great video and advice as always 👍

    • @RoyalKennedy601

    • @johnsb1550
      @johnsb1550 Год назад +2

      @RoyalKennedy601 I looked into this, and I will clarify. If you plug a non-EPA complaint tuner into your harley, it WILL void your warranty. EPA complaint tuners can only tune for a stage 1. Stage 2-4 tuners are illegal and WILL void the warranty, so cams and big bore kits are out. If you don't care about the warranty or it has already expired, then go for it. Just be aware that if you plug a non complaint tuner in and take it to an authorized service provider, when they hook it up, it will flag it and your power train warranty will be voided.

    On my '02 Electra Glide with a stage 2 95" kit, i started with SE slip ons but eventually went with a 2-1 D&D Fatcat which I loved and to this day think it's the best sounding exhaust out there. Now with my new '21 Limited, I went with SE Street Cannon slip ons and I'm very happy for the most part. I ride mainly long distances, so these slip ons are perfect for me......for now. I bought a 2013 ultra limited off a guy that bought it new a few years ago. For some reason the head pipes are Vance&Hines With Rinehart mufflers . After watching the video I’m left wondering if maybe he done that because Rinehart has the converter in the head pipes and V&H has the converter in the mufflers? I know it isn’t as loud as any other Rineharts I’ve had on other bikes. It is a true dual exhaust. I’ve always chalked it up to the muffles just not being burnt out enough yet. Now I’ve got to find out why it doesn’t have that deep roar when gassing on it .

    I have the se high flow exhaust on my 22 road glide, had just the se mufflers on my 2020 road king with a stage 2. after having se for so long i am looking for a change. i been looking at the slimline duals with 4 inch slip ons. i do like the somewhat quieter exhaust only because i ride a lot of miles and take a lot of trips and the louder pipes will get annoying after a while. but i want to hear the bike.

    Current ride is a ‘19 Street Glide with stage 1 upgrades. Stock headers with Screaming Eagle Street Canon mufflers. Toying with idea of drilling out the cat, will I suffer a torque loss?

    I'm at the age where I prefer a quieter exhaust anyway. I would probably be happy with the Screamin Eagle exhaust as long as there is a measurable improvement in performance.

      You could with a few minor modifications and depending on what year of 103 engine your looking at. Your next option would be a crank swap with some new pistons and cylinders and making your 88 a 103. Being a 2006 Dyna the cam chest is already updated to the hydraulic tensioners from the factory.

  • @NYCZ31

    Since I'm in NY and we now have one of the most stringent noise level rules for motorcycles in the country next to California, SE is basically my only choice for an exhaust other than the S&S system. However for the newer Softails the SE system is an absolute abomination aesthetically, but it seems to be a good performer. I'm not sure on the Touring model system but it does look good, and every other option other than S&S 50 state will probably be too loud.

      I’m in Albany NY that noise law they passed he is bs . Some downstate politician had guys riding in his neighborhood and somehow got that passed . No one bothers me or anyone I know . If some kid was being a jerk and deliberately making noise on a city street and got pulled over they could use it against them

      I’m feeling you. I’m in Cali and am a new rider, simply looking to improve/increase the sound and feel of my ‘23 Fat Boy. It’s “unbelievable” how quiet this thing is with the stock exhaust system on, and I really just want to be heard when slow riding between vehicles while lane splitting.
      I don’t want an obnoxiously loud bike. I want a deep, throaty rumble,pretty much through all the gears.
      Watching/Listening to videos, honestly, just trying to find some slip-ons that meet that criteria.
      The ones that REALLY got my attention are made by Khrome Werks, but they don’t currently produce a California-compliant set. Before coming across them I was looking at the Rineharts, followed by the Screaming Eagles.
      With the bike being under factory warranty and not wanting to interfere with that, I’m thinking wondering if I just need to go Screaming Eagle. The dealer’s talking OVER $1,000 to install them, but now that I’ve seen a few more videos, I think they’re quoting a full Screaming Eagle Stage 1 Upgrade - which I’m not thinking I want/need, unless the thing has to be re-tuned…

Sure the v twin sounds undistinguishable loud, The law can here you coming way before you get there, But the bikes I have are plenty and I mean plenty of powerful enough and I ride for many hours like to hear the engines as well, do not like getting to my destination with my ears ringing and thumbing my ear loab at some one talking to me yelling A ! Or making like I hear them. agreeing with the unknown.

Everything you've said is absolutely true ( you are the expert after all) but there is more to replacing that exhaust system than just sound and performance.

I don't know what a catalytic thing ah Ma Bob is 😅. Bikes are such a small impact... Your typical local pond is pumping out more GHG , then your bike will in a full year. Cats on bikes is retarded.
