This whole movie was basically just a beautifully animated medley
And it was EPIC.

@@waikeonglim7703man so true, I really want it to go on top of the charts
With 3 gross out of place interruptions, one of which actually took place at a point where one of these tracks would have been in the movie if it was actually in it and not just on the soundtrack
I love that they included stuff from Galaxy and Odyssey, not just the classics.
Seeing that Tostarena exists put a smile on my face.
And also Bowser's Fury
That’s because those games are classics.
Galaxy was my absolute favorite 😍
@@VenaCava I saw that too, but I couldn’t remember what the kingdom name was!!
Loved the movie, but my only issue is that in the rainbow road scene, they aren't falling off the track 80% of the time
I mean most of them DO end up falling off the track
Toad had smart steer on 😔
Well I guess they’re just pros…? EVEN MARIO THOUGH HE WAS NEW TO THIS… Or maybe are we just all bad at it…?
[SPOILER] I got triggered when Mario took a shortcut and Lakitu didn't stop him

@Finger I’ve never even played Mario Galaxy at all before but even i almost felt close to crying when i heard that track (sister hasn’t played it before either but she actually was crying at that part lol), it’s just that powerful
@@TheRealDoomSingermakes you feel like you accomplished a important job, or makes you feel like you didn’t something good
I cried when I heard this in theaters it was just so good!
One thing I noticed while watching the movie is that all the non-soundtrack songs (Holding Out For A Hero, Take on Me, ETC) came from the 80’s, the same decade the Mario franchise originated from.
Although that was cool, it is extremely unfortunate that those songs replaced remix songs that were cut from the film (they are going to be in the deleted scenes)
Have to keep the parents attention somehow lmao
A lot of people don't notice this. But there is actually a smart steer antenna on the back of toads giant truck.
Seriously
Bro, he doesn't know how to drive? Even a baby knows how to💀
Omg that made me laugh so hard
Well. Time to go watch it again
I noticed
THIS is how you adapt a soundtrack to a film adaptation. Mad kudos and respect to Brian Tyler, Koji Kondo, and everyone else who was involved in bringing the series soundtrack to life
Now let them compose my funeral
Agreed. The only bad thing about the soundtrack were the random pop songs thrown in. They did not fit at all.

Even getting a smidge of the Luigi’s Mansion theme was a big win in my book 💚 i love this movie so much
I was so excited when I heard those notes.
Yeah my fav character from Mario is Luigi and my favorite games are from Luigi’s Mansion and when I saw him in the forest in my mind I was “yo Luigi mansion” then when I hear those few notes I went “LUIGIS MANSION”
@@kaylumdoesstuff8373 I was screaming please play Luigi’s mansion when he was being chased
Luigi's Mansion Music And King Boo?
Yeah, We Really NEED a Luigi's Mansion Movie
Legit I was wispering the title theme of Luigi's Mansion 3 when I saw Luigi in the Dark Lands
Big ups to Brian Tyler. He said in an interview with Variety that he is a huge Mario fan and you can absolutely tell.
“I knew this music,” Tyler shares. “It was a part of my childhood in the same way that I grew up listening to film scores. I wanted to have built-in nostalgia where it immediately feels like Mario,” he says for writing new Mario music. “The idea was the score would be thematic Mario.”
He worked closely with the original composer Koji Kondo on the new soundtrack and this was the end result. Absolutely amazing.
The whole movie had that perfect balance between "easter eggs too obvious to everyone" to "if you know, you know" and I had a blast being 38 year old dude in a Luigi hat."
I've never dressed up for a movie before, but was happy to for this one, and wasn't let down. Peaches peachespeachespeaches has been stuck in my head all day.
I can always appreciate that illumination recognizes that no matter how much you try, no amount of remixing can make “Bowser’s Fury” more epic
Agreed! I literally screamed in the theater when I heard it! I was hoping for N64 rainbow road but that moment was so much better!
whend it play again
That moment was so amazing to me, literally my favorite part of the movie
OMG I was SO happy during that scene! I'm so glad they used phase 2/3 too! My dad hasn't even heard it before and he said "That song that the band plays in the movie was my favorite." I couldn't have had a cooler father 🤪
Yas as soon as I heard that music in the movie I was screaming and running
The Super Mario Galaxy star select theme is used as a bridge between Toad House and Bob-omb Battlefield in "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom"
Is it!! Cool!
(Let’s all collectively pretend like I didn’t forget to add this in the part 2 😅)

Don't forget that Luigi's phone ringtone is the Nintendo Gamecube startup jingle.
Yeah! I almost yelled out in theatre when that happened. Can’t believe I forgot it
I'm surprised I didn't hear that much laughter in the theater when that happened in the movie. I wonder how a theater full of die-hard Mario fans would react to that reference, among many others.
Apparently it is also used for Pikmin because that's how my 8 year old son recognized it. And he plays my GC a decent amount xD
Brian Taylor’s passion for the franchise was clear and evident every second of the OST.
Imagine if we have the same passion for every single other Nintendo film we have from here on out. Truly incredible!
If they ever make a Zelda Movie i better hear a hard af soundtrack on that
Brian Tyler, not "Taylor"
@@kaarD04 they probably will at one point seeing as everyone is making a video game movie adaptation
The Peache’s Castle Lemotif at 6:42 felt really powerful and cool at the theater, I got goosebumps
They did so good with the soundtrack

I don't know why I thought the Mario 3 Overworld 2 bit was the Dr Mario theme but it's similar
You’re not crazy. Lots think they hear Dr. Mario there. I go over it in part 2
@@kaylumdoesstuff8373 aha!
It is Dr. Mario theme. Doesn't sound even close to Overworld 2. I sure as heck haven't grown tone-deaf.
It's Hammer Bros. From SMB3
@@TheChabowski For god's sake you're right. This is what happens with too much arrogance. Good job me. I've seen an acapella video where Dr Mario and the Hammer Bros themes are mixed into each other so smoothly it's uncanny. That threw me off. Still not Overworld 2 though.
I really liked how they did the mario kart 8 menu music, it sounds twice as whimsical as youd ever expect to hear it
When I heard the rainbow road theme (10:35) I genuinely got goosebumps. Illumination and Nintendo made an amazing movie

So Bryan Tyler, the composer, basically did one of my favorite soundtracks 10 years ago (Final Destination 5). Then BAM, all of a sudden he twice-attacks in 2023 with both Scream 6’s beautiful score and then THIS INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECE! It’s so funny seeing him go from horror to my favorite videogame series over the past 30 years. Well done and thank you Mr. Tyler 🙂
He also did Transformers Prime’s soundtrack
What an odd trio of movie soundtracks!
He definitely knocked it out of the park with the past 2 screams but this score is something else absolutely incredible!
Horror and Mario??
Luigi's Mansion HAS to be the main theme for the next movie in this series!!
YOOO I FEEL THE SAME. Final Destination 5 main theme and fate’s bridge made me me a huge fan!!! To fin out he has done other movies made me so happy.
Man, these songs would be amazing in a theme park ride. They're so alive
Hearing the Luigi’s Mansion theme in the big scream was the most exciting thing I’ve heard in years
K but like, I'm really struggling here. Where is it? I don't hear any of it when comparing the two tracks. I hear the end of Deep Dark Galaxy and then the SMB3 fortress motif.
@@froezone_ You can faintly hear it between 7:32 and 7:34. Luigi hums it at 7:56. It happens really quick. I wish I could describe it better but I’m not sure what instrument plays it… I flipped out hearing it in the theater lol.
@@SebbyWest Ahh, it's like an oboe or something. K I very quickly hear it now, just the four notes but so subtle Idk how people picked that out watching the movie lol. Thanks for helping!
They’re super subtle with it. So when I was super stoked when I caught just a glimpse of it
my poor brothers arm when I smacked him when i heard it.
6:09 is a reference to "P" Switch timer sound in New Super Mario Bros games
😲 I didn’t even notice that woah! Cool!

@@emiliocarrillo4594 nah its the beginning of bowsers theme from smg

During the Koopa band scene (Fury Bowser Phase 2), I got so excited that it was in the movie because it was one of my favorites. My dad, who isn't nearly as familiar with the music as I am and isn't nearly as big a Mario fan as I am, told me that was one of his favorite songs in the entire movie. I was so happy about that that I set that as his new ringtone LOL. 😂 I recognized just about all of these musical references and remixes and every single time, I wanted to say things like "That's the level clear theme!" out loud.
We should've gotten a scene where Charlie Day sings the Luigi's Mansion theme, that would've been amazing.
I was in theater thinking “WHERE HAVE I HEARD THIS BEFORE!?!?!?” Now I know. Thank you!
i thought he did hum it at one point? it was when he first shows up in the spooky skeleton lands
man i literally cried every time i heard a reference while watching it. i felt like a kid again.
Who else thought aquatic ambience should have played when Mario saved DK underwater?
I KNOW BRO, like even just the first 4 notes would’ve made me love this movie 5x more
Agreed. Or Dire Dire Docks since you know the famous Eel from that very level showed up.
Maybe not when they’re getting eaten but when they’re having their slow chat they could have eased it in there.
@@kaylumdoesstuff8373 actually the Eel is from Jolly Roger Bay which yeah does play the Dire Dire Docks theme
FR!!
6:18 is actually the beginning of the bowser fights in the first mario galaxy, so those vibes aren’t without merit :3
I thought it was, that theme absolutely slaps
When Kamek plays the piano, he does the same thing Martin Leung, the video game pianist, does during his Super Mario Melody with the Underground theme.
3:46
Hearing this in the theaters was crazy. I always enjoy hearing the airship theme anywhere.
You could tell who were genuine Mario fans by the way people reacted to the music.
That part in welcome to the mushroom kingdom that gives you galaxy vives is the start of bowsers fight theme from that game
You’re so right! Thank you!
And before that there's a theme when you hit the special block and starts a countdown
You had no idea how much fun it was to find them all. It felt like..an Easter egg hunt! You can tell how much care went into this movie and it’s fabulous
when Luigi was in the Dark Lands, i was getting an insane amount of Luigi's Mansion vibes
With the orchestral smorgasbord they blended into this movie, galaxy was bound to get some love as it was pretty much the roots of Mario orchestra.
I got so excited when Jungle Hijinks played. The Donkey Kong references were great because I'm a huge Donkey Kong fan. This movie was amazing.
The SMB3 song in Level Complete is actually the song from the hammer bros fights
The part that gives you galaxy vibes is actually the hook from the Bowser fights from galaxy 1.
Nice catch on Deep Dark Galaxy. I didn’t catch that one myself.
I personally viewed the bridge in Buckle Up as the intro chord progression of GBA’s Rainbow Road, but that counts imo cuz GBA RR references it directly
I thought it was from Dr mario at first.
nice to see an adaptation movie that seems like the people behind it actually enjoy and have experienced the source.
I view The Super Mario Bros Movie as a celebration of Mario and how far he has come as of the last 42 years.
It's clear Mario isn't just the face of Nintendo, he's the undisputed face of the Video-Gaming Industry.
The little bit of Luigi's Mansion as he's exploring the darklands gave me the biggest smile!
It's nice to see people genuinely in love with music from game to film
Hearing gusty garden from SMG made me so emotional in the theater. I literally almost cried, i absolutely love SMG and it’s a part of my childhood, it was amazing hearing it in theaters ❤
This just makes me appreciate the amazing music Mario franchise has ❤
3:36 Heard this in the opening scene, and was like "oh here we go!" I knew this movie was gonna slap at that moment.
This theme gave me goosebumps
3:51 This was my favourite bit of the soundtrack. I was humming it in my head when the scene was coming in but when I heard those notes, I knew it.
This Movie is a Masterpiece full of Musical Nostalgia, and with Brian Tyler composing them, it can't go wrong! Gave me goosebumps!
The feeling I got in the theater when I heard the musical masterpiece Gusty Garden Galaxy play cannot be explained with words
This movie was pure joy from beggining to end.
0:57 - As I’ve been pointed out to by Zomb Su and Rose this is indeed the Hammer Bro theme from that game, not the athletic theme. My bad not sure how I mixed that up. Thank you!
Yes. And in my ears I think they also use the same melody in the vs. battle in smb3 too. Where Mario and Luigi can fight, arcade style. I dont think it was in the original arcade version though.
I KNEW I HEARD DEEP DARK GALAXY, I was certain I wasn’t hearing it wrong, I’m so glad they added other Mario songs other than the most well known one
I think my favorite part is the new Leitmotif theme they composed collaboratively just for the movie. I kept scouring my brain to find the original until I found an article where Brian said it was the one original theme he and Koji collabed on for the soundtrack, and my heart exploded.
Gusty Garden has GOT to be my favorite. The nostalgia was too much for me to handle

I think by far my favorite "little reference" in the whole score is when Mario defeats DK in the arena, you hear the jingle from the arcade game that plays when he carries Pauline up the scaffolding. Absolutely geeked out when I heard it
I cannot express how excited i was to hear gusty garden galaxy. Love this movie and love the wonderful soundtrack they gave us
There was also Bowser's Fury theme playing when everyone was partying in Bowser's castle. Played by the Koopa Band.
I understood every single one of them. Is this what nostalgia is? I’m only 17😂
I’m so glad Gusty Garden was included I absolutely love the music from the super Mario Galaxy games. I cannot wait to watch this movie! Great video
I pogged too many times in the theaters hearing the little musical references.
(Especially luncheon kingdom)
extra findings that weren't mentioned
0:58 - Hammer Bros. Battle Theme (I know it says Mario 3 overworld 2, but that's the wrong theme, its the one I listed. you can check it for yourself!)
6:09 - p-switch timer jingle
Omg thank you! I was thinking somethin were wrong but i could've remember the hammer bros theme
The passion put into this movie was felt strongly with the target audiences. There's no surprise why it's made so much money. This movie was such a love letter!
As a lifelong gamer since the original Nintendo Super Mario Bros, the amount of love and references in the music alone just kept me smiling the whole movie. Even some tears, the Donkey Kong Country jingle and Yoshi’s Island sting got me right in the feels. 😭
In "Fighting Tooth and Veil", at around 1:18, there's even more references. There's another beautiful arrangement of the SMB1 Ground Theme and then at 1:52, it plays the opening to SMB3's Athletic Theme before switching to SMW's Athletic Theme's opening part and then switching BACK to SMB3's Athletic Theme again! It finally finishes with what sounds like Chill from Dr. Mario at 2:06! The music in this movie is just top tier, broh!

I cringed at all the real music inserts, they broke me out of the immersion. Why Illumination. Why waste money on pointless real life music that you prob had to go out of your way to pay for rights to put in the movie, when theres a giant plethora of mario music you had access to??

I think my favorite musical reference has to be when Mario and Luigi both enter the big condo at the beginning of the movie.
The intro of the lounge-style music that plays once they’re inside sounds extremely similar to that of the casino mini game from NSMBDS and SM64DS and I audibly squealed in the theatre when I heard it!
