  • Honestly,this is pretty much my favorite part of the movie..or ONE of my favorite parts anyway...
    it's funny because the drug that she is speaking of is actually what is nowadays refurred to as Adderall..the adhd drug..It was called Obetrol,I believe,back then,and it was used as a diet pill...Andy Warhol took it to lose,and maintain his weight and gave it to all of the "factory kids"...only unlike today,OBVIOUSLY instead of taking it orally,it was shot up..and more that frequently abused as a recreational drug.. it's quite interesting,eventually they took it off the market,and then put it back on the market to treat adhd,the drug itself is just a cocktail of amphetamine salts.
    Brigid Polk explains it nicely.lmao

    I had no idea that Brigid died last year. That was poorly reported .
    Such a talented bizarre lady. She always made me laugh with her exploits and battles with her mother. ...She was so freaking cool i would have loved to be part of her inner circle

    the drug she is taking is called dexedrine or dextroamphetamine, nnot adderall. adderall is more akin to benzedrine or regular amphetamine, meaning it has both dextro and levo ampetamine. because the levoamphetamine causes physical side effects, they isolated the d molecule, and so eliminating the bad part of amphetamine, levo, and leaving the much better tolerated dextroamphetamine which is more potent and less dangerous to the heart, thet new drug Vyvanse is dexedrine, which is ill admit good

      But she also mentions methamphetamine. I think she spiked her pokes with that as well... As a former user of that, that shit is NOT Good for either head, heart or body 🥺

    • @mattmammone2338
      @mattmammone2338 3 года назад +1

      You bring up a good point I didn't address. Methamphetamine HCI made back in the 1960's was pharmaceutical grade and lacked the impurities in today's crystal meth, so it was relatively less hazardous, liquid and safer to inject or ingest as a pill. However you are absolutely correct to say methamphetamine is nasty shit, not only because the system doesn't know what to do with it as it doesn't break down into a metabolite but it is also a neurotoxin. It will literally wreak havoc and destroy the neurons in the human brain. Its appeal is how centrally acting it is and feels like a full body orgasm with light seeming to flash upon injection. It just stays in the blood stream with nowhere to go and that's another part of its appeal...until 18 hours later you feel like your skydiving without a parachute as the crash comes on.

    • @mattmammone2338
      @mattmammone2338 3 года назад +1

      Correction...meth does break down but it is different than amphetamine metabolism and dextro amphetamine metabolism in that Active metabolites affect the system whereas meth seems to have no metabolites active in re entering the system in a psychoactive or physiological way. Adderall and Dexedrine slowly create norepinephrine which builds and contributes in part to the nervousness of the crash, and lesser dopamine levels and serotonin levels deplete resulting in a lethargic state with a negative mood.

      @@jv-ep2tc I never knew her mother. She's a bohemian. She's nothing like the way she and others have described her Mother. A Ziegfeld girl. Just a pre- TV era Playboy Bunny. Brigid is still the same. She just doesn't shoot speed or drink or binge eat as much as she can keep herself from relapsing in food. Certainly she is like her Mother but her mother was a gold digger, and lacked any talent beyond that of a stripper. Brigid was the closest thing Andy had to a wife and she was paid in paintings a lot of the time lol

    They still have Desoxyn aka methamphetamine hcl for adhd. Dexedrine aka dextroamphetamine also. Obetrol was the same as adderall aka mixed salts of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.

    • @ScottDavis-dm6mq
      @ScottDavis-dm6mq 8 лет назад

      Blaise Richard Yes, Desoxyn is not used for ADHD very much anymore, and I only know of two people who were prescribed it for ADHD, and they were prescribed 10 mg per day each. I tried Ritalin, Focalin, Concerta, etc. with little success. The methylphenidate medicines were not very effective for me though.
      I was later given Dexedrine, Adderall and finally Vyvanse which I currently am taking with much better success than the previous medicines. Vyvanse is a pro- drug of dextro-amphetamine which binds with lysine in the small intestine and is converted back in dextro-amphetamine in the body, supposedly this pro-drug system limits abuse as a person can only absorb 120 to 150 mg of it per day, but I don't know how accurate that number is.
      methylphenidate drugs always left me feeling initially stimulated a little bit, but several hours later I would feel very fatigued. That's why dextro-amphetamine medicines worked better than Ritalin and family, for me at least.
      I always wondered if Desoxyn would be a better medicine than any of them, but the DEA and FDA, etc. have deemed it "too cool" a drug for common usage it seems. Not that the two people I knew who took it seemed to enjoy it at all though. I imagine a Methedrine capsule would have certainly been something interesting to try. I think that street users were pouring out the powder from the capsule and injecting it for a rush, which is why is was taken off the market!

      Blaise Richard Yes, it was a pleasure for me as well. It is indeed a rarity I agree. I hope we can talk again as well. Also, Brigid Polk is very interesting in my opinion as well! She was an original in many ways, blazing the trails for those to follow her. Quite funny also.I have read some interesting stories about her concerning parties at Warhol's factory in the 1960's. She was always one who enjoyed herself at those parties, and it would have been very fun to have been their and seen her in action!
