    Disabling ABS helps dramatically when you have over-sized tires, for instance on a truck with VERY big tires. The ABS wants to lock up at .25" - .5 " of tire travel BUT with large tires that distance may be 2"- 3" of rotation and then the ABS is actually counteractive.

    I am so glad I found this video.. I am having the early ABS activation when coming to a Stop. The Wheel Sensors seem to be the problem. The new sensors were a bit expensive they are the so-called active sensors.
    The sell is they provide better accuracy, especially at low speeds, and can even differentiate between forward and reverse as well as full stop.
    The wring diagram is the same though for my older model car. There are three wires leading to the sensors. One supplies the reference voltage (VRef), similar to many other automotive sensors. The other two are the signal and the ground.
    Only a reference voltage and a signal wire will be used in my case, but the manufacturer claims it's compatible and the fitting is the same on the harness side.
    I may wish I listened to Captain Obvious below, but we hardly ever see heavy snow here and the ABS has helped me out of a couple of close calls with the crazy Louisville Kentucky non drivers.

      Your write up makes no sense. “My ABS light is on”. But it’s grinding to a stop. Your ABS light is on because you have not maintained your brake system. Start by replacing all your calipers, pads and rotors.
      Get a multi meter and measure each ABS sensor, looking for a short or full open.
      Replace any failed sensors.

    Thank you. Very helpful video. Our 2009 Ford Fusion has had two such events recently. The first took place in August 2016 when driving on a wet road. This week (November 2016) it occurred on a perfect dry road with a moderately hard stop. In both cases, the ABS activated and then immediately after that we lost almost all breaking ability. It nearly caused an accident. Things did eventually return to a slightly soft but usable level after turning the car off and restarting, then pumping the brakes hard a number of times. I took the car to the local dealership after the second event. They tested the entire braking system and could find nothing wrong with it. When I mentioned the known issue with the ABS/HCU, they told me they could replace the HCU if I wanted, but it would cost $1,400-1,500. This is a very scary situation. You never know when your brakes are going to fail. Why won't Ford do something to fix this? I found a link to the NHTSA and plan to file a complaint.

    I may start doing this to my Jeep this winter. More than once the car rolled down an icy hill with the ABS chattering, but no braking till I released the pedal. On my old BMW there was a red panic switch on the dash to kill the ABS in such a situation. Wish they still had those. ABS is great on a dry road panic stop, but on an icy road in traffic it probably causes a lot of accidents as the car rolls rather than slides to a stop.

    My car had symptoms of early ABS activation. It is quite scary to have your brakes release and your car suddenly move several feet forward once the brakes disengage. I pulled the ABS fuse, and it hasn't happened again. The brakes work fine with less pedal pressure, a more direct feel with the brakes, and the possibility of rear ending someone on the car decides to shut off the brakes is dramatically reduced. I grew up driving cars with no ABS systems, so not having one is not an issue. Spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to repair a bad ABS pump in a 17 year old car isn't an option.

    ABS = Azzholes Braking System. I had a '96 F-150 with ABS light. Except that it had NO abs components whatsoever in it. I ignored it and just did the normal brakes jobs and it still braked, and ran great for another 12 years, until I decided to upgrade to a (used)2008-F-150, in 2012.
    I've been driving non-abs for 35 years now, with NO problems, other than the normal do a brake-job every few years. It was simple, and it worked,
    But now, my 2008 F-150 ABS light has been randomly on/off for last year or so, even though I only had 60k on it ? and yes this does have ABS and each stoopid little sensor Ford wants 200 bucks ?
    Yep, this whole abs is nuthin but an effin' lobbyist gov't/automaker/insurance SCAM to make themselves more money, while costing you double the money, in the long run for what used to be a simple and efficient brake-job.

    I have a 2001 Century which has a suspected bad module that is showing an ABS warning light on the dash. I replaced a speed sensor four years ago after a code showed and the ABS light which was showing stopped showing. However, the ABS warning light has returned on the dash. No code showed this time and later a mechanic told me he believed it to be a bad module. I have been living with tape on the dash for two years. My state tightened up the inspection requirement and my old car won't pass inspection with the ABS light showing. Can I scrape off the filament off the ABS light if I take the dash apart? I use this old car as my winter beater. It’s not worth replacing the cost of replacing the module. Must my car go to the junk yard because it won’t pass inspection? What's your advice?

    Hi and thanks for the video. I'm refurbishing a 1997 Honda Odyssey and use it in the meantime as my daily. A couple of days ago, while parking, the brake fluid from the ABS reservoir broke completely. I assume it's an O-rings issue but not sure yet. My question though: If I want to not only pull the fuse out (which I did), but take the complete ABS system out, there are two pressure lines going from the ABS unit's low side to the brake master cylinder. What should I do with them? (take them out and plug with a screw? install a proportioning valve instead of the ABS unit? Or...)
    Thanks! Taking the ABS unit out will allow me to clean and fix it "off-line"

    Excellent video I have ever found my car BMW 750li wheels are locked by abs can't drive because the parking break actuator is broken , And the abs pump makes noise sometimes . I was thinking what to do the abs pump from dealer is very expensive.this video might help. thanks for posting it.

    I recently replaced front wheel bearings and hub assembly on my 1997 Camry. After that I got ABS sign on which is permanent. I checked and all ABS sensors are good. Even professional scanners are not showing any error code.
    My question is how to disable the light or is there any fix. I assume one or both bearings are set in opposite direction into the hub. Any suggestions or fix will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    revision,! seeing the different fuse related wiring of all cars, I think if I wanted to disable this option, I would go straight to the electric pump motor and unplug it. ,that way the fuse would be intact for any other parts and the without the pump the brakes would render standard hydraulic as the manufactures allowed for in case of electrical failover, I did have some gm cars that when old kick in at wrong time and at slow speed and hamper my stoping,, swallowed my bubble gum! yet some makes with good function really did lessen stopping distance on a straight 60 mph panic stop. so yeah, if it started getting silly with my car after checking that all wheels were the same diameter, and all sensors were clean from mud and correct resistance, I would pull the plug and drive as the non optioned cars do

    Does ABS cause the brake pedal to vibrate during hard stops in the crown vic? The other day I had to brake hard because traffic came to a stop suddenly and my brake pedal vibrated hard when I floored it

    Thanks. I have a 2007 Jeep Liberty that the ESP / BAS light, traction light (squiggly lines), and ABS light came on all at the same time. And whatever the cause seems to be causing the acceleration to vary, as if power is being cut to some wheels, or all of them.
    I want to disable all of those features to see if the acceleration issue stops. I don't need them. The lights can stay on, I don't care.
    Do you know if I can do so with fuses or relays? Thanks!

    I tried to do this in my Pontiac Montana but when pulling the ABS fuse then the van do not turn on because in this car they put the ABS+ignition together so if you pull the ABS fuse you will be disabling the car ignition also, I hope there is a work around to this annoyance from GM. I think they do this to force you spend money on this BS, please if someone knows let me know.

    We removed the abs fuse but now the abs light is on, the slip light is on and the vdc light is on. Is there a way we can make those lights turn off? One a good note we now have breaks. With our 08 Nissan Armada the brake light comes on and the abs kicks in and for awhile we could turn off the vehicle turn it back on and it would reset the brake. Now it never resets and we are always driving with basically no brakes. We figured it was something to do with the abs. So after seeing your video we pulled the fuse out and yep we have brakes but unfortunately all these lights are now on the dash.

    i hate abs. the only people who like abs are the people who designed and lobbied for its use, people who drive where there is no ice and snow, and people who dont know how to drive without the vehicle augmenting their behavior. unfortunatly all new vehicles have stability control and if you disable abs it will derate and be un drivable. soon you will have to wear a helmet to go outside because no matter what you do you cant fix stupid. not even with duct tape

    • @heavymetalmadness666
      @heavymetalmadness666 8 лет назад +1

      You can fix stupid if you wrap enough duct tape around their mouth and nose.
      ABS is horrible with snow and ice, same for the lame traction control systems.

    • @potatochobit
      @potatochobit 8 лет назад

      that may have been true in the early 90s, but I dont know any man on earth who can pump brakes faster than a computer. there is no reason to disable abs on a new car.

    • @heavymetalmadness666
      @heavymetalmadness666 8 лет назад +6

      potatochobit drive any car on snow and ice with or without. ABS stands for All Bullshit System braking. locked tires will stop better than abs in some cases. Abs braking should only happen at higher speeds, you can also get false readings from wheel bearings/ speed sensors at times causing the car to not stop as soon as it could have as well in any conditions.

      @potatochobit, Come back here and tell us that after the ABS randomly decides to kick in when a little runs out in front of your car and you can't stop and hit them, or after you rearend the car in front of you. And no I'm not talking 90's I'm talking mid 2000's Chevy Blazer here. ABS is dangerous bullshit!

  • @Dr_Xyzt

    I rigged a switch for my ABS. Every time I run over the cracked pavement in town, my ABS will trigger and it drives me nuts. I also went to do a donut in my back yard, and I tried to whoah the truck down. The ABS triggered and I ended up understeering over my curb, rather than a gyrating skid.
