I'm a miner, and we were required to take a defensive driving course for a day at the mine I worked at. The instructor hated ABS on vehicles, and swore black and blue any driver could stop quicker without the ABS than a vehicle gst was equipped with one. You know what, he was right! We had to drive through a mud puddle and slam on the brakes to see which car stopped quicker and in a shorter distance. People might be surprised how MUCH shorter the stopping distance was with the car without the ABS compared to the car that did have ABS brakes. It was actually freaky!
I’ve only had ABS with my KIA sorento, and I hate them… I’ve NEVER had a problem driving in snow, UNTIL I had ABS…. I’ve slide thru several stop signs…😬 Can’t wait to remove the fuse…so I can control my car, instead of the other way around.
We were our own abs system back in the day . You pumped the brakes . That worked just like the abs systems today . As a matter of fact when they came out with abs braking they had a hard time with people still pumping the brakes . Personally abs is just something else to break down and go wrong on a vehicle . I can live without them .
I honestly think ABS causes more wrecks than it helps. If you look at most wrecks here on RUclips you can clearly see that if the driver had the ability to lock all 4 wheels and skid the car would have stayed in a forward motion and stayed on the road. I have had several cars without ABS and by controlling my skid and doing my own brake control I was able to still steer the car under braking.
Wired up a switch to ABS for autocross. Tapped the fuse w a rocker switch , the old Focus SVT had a winter package with “ always on “ traction control under 5 miles an hour . Even when you hold the TC button down for 5 seconds it’s not fully off just allows some wheel slip and was terrible at launching. The axel would get beat up from the ABS cutting power to whatever wheel spins.
Started driving in 1962 - no ABS then and managed to stay alive driving through the hills in West Virginia. As to millions spent on R&D by car manufactures.. my daughter has a 2008 Town & Country with a new engine, two bad flex plates, and an ABS system that eats brake pads.... not all engineering is good when the goal is to cut cost and raise the price...
I think what you want to do is instead disconnect the "Yaw" sensor. That's what kicks in when going around an inclined turn, controls the side to side lean for braking when the car is leaning to one side or the other on a road or curve. Best way to understand what a "yaw" sensor aids control over is to read up about "roll, pitch, yaw" on airplanes.
Abs was made dated when front wheel drive was at its peak. Partly to eliminate powered turning and stock car races and partly to keep pickup trucks from being used to tow heavy equipment trailers when they had 95% of their weight and braking ability on front axle only.
I pulled the ABS fuse on a B7 Passat due to the ABS malfunctioning on the front offside wheel - depriving me of braking power on relatively moderate braking. Glad I did. Have driven non abs cars before - it's no problem unless you drive stupidly and don't look ahead etc. Still have the lights on the dash so will fail at next MOT but that is 9 months away.
I've driven cars without abs from 1976 to 1991 and did very well. Since then I've found I hate the abs and I've slid just as much and sometimes more with them. I'm a former Class A mechanic and I've heard a lot of people say the same. We have crazy winters here in Canada but abs have never served me well. I used to have people asking me to disable them which I was not allowed to do but I will try it on my own vehicle now that my abs needs an expensive repair.
Nice video ABS on my BMW 2008 750li was gone bad it had lots of lights on the dashboard Still haven't change it car is working fine it's just the lights on dashboard. The ABS module at the dealer is $1500.00 on ebay is $350.00 but it used with 90'000 kms. keeping my car un changed working fine.
I think all vehicles with traction control and stability control should be able to disabled it. Manufacturers made vehicles with ability to disable it so the vehicle can rock back and forward to get out of stuck situation. Or to maintain momentum when climbing up an icy slippery hill.
ABS DOES NOT stop you faster. It stops you straiter. ABS cannot possibly stop you faster. ABS ONLY releases brake pressure on wheels detected to be skidding. It DOES NOT apply extra pressure on any wheel under any circumstance. A skidding car will always stop faster than a car under the same circumstance than a car with ABS cycling the brakes. The ABS car is more likely to hit something in front of it while emergency braking than a skidding car. I drove years with disabled ABS and prefer it. But one has to know his car well and how different roads in different weather conditions at different speeds feel/affect car with & without traction. I understand pros & cons but IMO it's not for everyone (especially not distracted drivers/texters).
Angela Carlock I have a 2002 monte carlo, I was having problems with my abs/traction control kicking on when it wasn't supposed to, but the abs fuse was the same fuse for pcm, so I just unplugged the abs straight from the wheel, works good now
can I just pull my ABS fuse on 2000 suburban ?? eliminate the bullshit completely.heads up moving from Huntington Beach CA too Portland Oregon next month.good idea or bad idea ??
Huhhhhh....I like it....back to the future... brake no ABS....cool....so I no worry no more ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED....just a lipstick... Thanks Bro...from Malaysia...
Having VW cross touran...now after see yr video...make me feel better then I drive... Lipstick no colour anymore....pull out ..pull out pull out....heyyyy..pull out ..abs fuse.......tq tq TQ.....Jonny be good.... let play... Chuck berry..
Hello Blake, just a quick question. I took out my abs fuse and everything went fine but my speedmeters wasn't going up and the cruise wasn't working either. Did it happen to you? I have a 2015 Subaru Impreza
Hi, from past couple of days my 2012 Toyota Camry is making ABS self test noise every time i start my car and drive to 15mph. This sound wasn't there before. Can you please show if there is a fix for this. thanks
You will spin the car 100%, where esp will straight it, that's pure physics. Or maybe you have ability for stopping all 4 disc brakes individually by just one foot in miliseconds? Esp is one of the greatest safety inventions in the cars (besides airbags, collapsible steering rod and abs), just use it, where you're on public roads, please. Do whatever you want on track and crash you car (which is another 100% on track, if you're serious about racing), who cares..
yes, i'm talking about stability control, anti blocking systems etc (i think this is what was described as "nannies"). now, learn how they work and tell me if human can do it better..
@ izyot, if ur looking for performance abs is not the path for it, as for regular everyday driving it works well just annoying as hell, conventional braking feels better to me i guess its personal preference
It is hard to check out the instrument panel while driving since I am tall and focusing on the road, but I could of sworn I saw the TCS light flash when TCS was set to off when making a hard turn and jabbing down the gas pedal and getting wheelspin.
why might the brakes suddenly lock up? after removing abs capabilities. And I know you lock them up while hard braking. But you made me think you could be driving and just have a brake lock up.
Removed fuse in 2016 impreza and abs/traction control/lamp on, cruise was disabled as well as speedometer. My steering felt heavier (similar to my M3). And my brake discs got scorching hot after highway driving as if they were dragging, any explanations?
David Mudrik Yep its in Stockton, I think it might be over 100 next week so you may want to wait. I think some of the I-club guys are going out soon to make some passes either this wed on next.
David Mudrik I checked the forum looks like they will make the decision Monday depending on weather . Brandon and Vladi are going out to see who's car is faster Brandon ran an 11.8 last time one run low boost with spinning all 4 wheels through first.
It won't lock up, disabling the ABS simply takes it away from the system as they fail safe back to normal braking which is what you're wanting sounds like. I have a different question, according to my manual, my ABS fuse also powers the PCM powertrain control module. And my ABS is currently throwing my shit into limp mode and I'm stuck at a damn store.
Gonna give it a try, we have 1/4 inch ice this weekend, that ABS will get me in more trouble. Just curious, how hard is your clutch? mine is like going the gym and do left leg presses! Thanks for the video.
+mitoda exactly why I wanted to show this quick little mod. For people like you that know abs sometimes gets you into more trouble. My clutch is not that hard at all. What year do you have I. Now some years are harder than others or maybe you have a stage 2 clutch if you bought the car used it's a common upgrade.
@@BlakesGarage Removed fuse in 2016 impreza and abs/traction control/lamp on, cruise was disabled as well as speedometer. My steering felt heavier (similar to my M3). And my brake discs got scorching hot after highway driving as if they were dragging, any explanations?
Hey, Thank you very much, I love this video which is very very instructive ! I want to try this on my car but my dealer says that the light on the dash board won't come out on it's own when I put the fuse back in, do you think that can be true ? And also the car is still under warranty so I'm not sure this mod is good idea. But than it really is something I want to try to exploit more my chassis without traction control, ESP and ABS ! Anyway thanks a lot! Ps : I just subscribed and cannot wait to see the effect of the anti roll bar on your Audi !
My service ABS light has been on my 06 Buick lacrosse for 2 years now. I took it to the dealership. They changed the left front hub for almost $600. The service light was still on. Then they told me the problem was the left front pigtail plug from the hub to computer. The car is only worth $1,200. The ABS bucks back won't let me break sometimes. Could I simply pull the ABS fuse and go old school disk break?
Hate ABS...does not allow me to modulate the brakes in slippery stuff.. it assumes the car can drive itself better than I can drive it..and now we know that is not true..
Hey guys brotip right here: don't do this on your Wrx if its 2015+. I did it on mine and the car's computer flipped the fuck out. ABS, traction control, hill assist, powersteering, speedometer, etc all went out and got a Check Engine light as a bonus. Don't do it unless you have an older model!!
hey I was considering doing this because of a malfunctioning abs pump on my mercury Milan. it is a reoccurring problem and common one on this particular model. when abs engages, pressure never returns to the brake pedal, obviously creating a major problem. Ford hasn't recalled but needs to! However, like I said I was considering pulling the fuse and disabeling it.. maybe not a good idea?
Pulling the fuse will also disable your "Limited Slip". Aka, the electronics that will use the brakes to make the wheel trying to spin faster, spin slower.
28 feb 2019 10:33 am est: automatic-lsd/automatic-awd maybe use abs. 'Another variation on this is the fully electronic diff, or e-diff. These will have a conventional open diff with no LSD components, and instead the car's electronics will rely on wheel speed sensors and the car's ABS system to detect the early stages of wheelspin and use the car's braking system to limit the torque going to the wheel that's losing traction. It's a very effective system, while an advance of this is torque vectoring, which actively distributes power to the wheels with the most grip' in www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/103829/what-is-a-limited-slip-differential from google(limited slip differential depend on abs) so maybe shutting-down abs, will shut-down automatic-lsd/automatic-awd/subaru-awd
Plus if you drive stick. Common practice is put it in neutral when coming to a stop. Taking all power off the wheels is like how the steam engines could stop quicker than diesel trains. Problem is in today's world. Cars are becoming all automatics and therefore using electronic controlled crap transmissions. My first car is about to be a 95 Jetta GL with 5 speed manual. I already know I plan to pull the abs pump relay. As I have been driving my dad's 85 Chevy K20 for him. So I don't need abs junk.
all the same lights are on , on my 2000 suburban..damn ABS pulsed coming to a stop hitting Bentley !!!!! FUCKINiG Chevy thanks for the fucking Bill mother fuckers !!!
I rear ended someone the other day because of these damned abs brakes on my dually welding truck! It looked like they were gonna run a yellow light but at the last minute slammed on brakes! I was watching anticipating but when I hit my brakes all the brake pedal did was flutter up & down & I slowly rear ended the vehicle in front of me. Another time I was working up in North Dakota & was gonna make a turn on a “t road”. I wasn’t even going fast but there was a lady ready to pull out from the t intersection & my brakes started “fluttering” as I was going to make the turn, we both had eye contact & I barely missed her vehicle because of this damned abs crap! My work truck loaded weighs about 12,500 pounds with over sized mud grips. On my other rig without abs if your not driving insane when you hit the brakes it will almost give your neck back lash because it’s coming to either a dead stop or within a few feet! Abs is like a robot that takes the control out of your hands & does whatever the hell most times leading into a accident where you have no braking control over the vehicle your driving! Like tits on a boar hog, useless!!!!
Just like dealing with SOMEONE at a store, lowes, Advance Auto etc, everyone seems to need a BABYSITTER or they can't/don't know how to do their job. Too many babysitting electronics for those who should not be driving to begin with. If you are that scared of it, stay at home or have someone else drive. As another post said, YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE without the babysitters! That is why cell phones are so popular, they are made to baby sit people and let them have the ILLUSION of being in control!!!! Just another device to SEPARATE and control us. Steve Jobs did not let his kids have a cell or tablet. He knew what the brain sucking thing do to people!
HarleyQc you probably have an electric motor under the steering column instead of a conventional power steering pump on the engine. Pulling the fuse killed power to that motor.
ABS shortens the braking distance giving you the opportunity to steer away your car from another car or object. In this way, you can avoid severe road accidents. Because the wheels do not get locked, the stopping distance reduces considerably. According to data logged by some automotive companies doing research on ABS, it has been found that on dry roads, an ABS car stops around 1 to 3 meter shorter than a non ABS car. This gap further increases if the ground is slippery or muddy. ABS cars perform even better in slippery and muddy conditions. ABS cars do not lose their position and you can easily control them without going straight and hitting another vehicle or object. In a nutshell, ABS cars have shorter braking distance than non ABS cars. Anti-lock braking system helps in stopping safe, remaining stable, and also avoiding collision where stopping to a dead halt is not possible in a given amount of time. The 1 or 2 meter shorter braking distance may not sound much but in a critical situation where the object is not far away from you, that 1 meter short stopping distance can mean life or death for you. So ABS is an important car safety feature. Non ABS cars have higher braking distances and are more prone to collisions.
Sorry but real world driving is the opposite of what you are saying. Two days ago I almost slid into an intersection because abs took over and I couldn't brake. It was in snow and I was going slow. I am pulling the fuses now! I drove my previous car for 2 years with the abs disconnected. No problems and I am in control not some electronic sensors
ABS does not shorten the stopping distsnce. Its purpose is to help maintain traction so a driver can slow down and still maintain steering & thereby steer around an object and in the direction the drver wants to go.
This proves that these devices have become incompetent to the feel of their vehicle and proper driver coordination ability and developing a proper skill level. Aviation is one situation, but this proves why there are so many stupid accidents because people don't tune into driving they tune out and have zero knowledge and zero sense of the vehicle as an extension of themselves not a replacement for themself.
I had a car that was not eqipped with ABS and I was able to stop faster without it. In fact, I just road tested my winter tires on icy gravel roads (that cannot be salted) and I can stop very fast if I apply just enough brake to avoid ABS activation but if I jammed on the brakes, it took me way longer to stop. ABS = Anti BRAKE System.
abs has nothing to do with the stability controle the semetrical awd is a mechanicaly activated not digitaly also its a subie so u dont brake into the turns u floor it wrc and drift 101
i don't think this is correct. Esp takes gas off automatically (that's why they're always put esp off for racing, where slight axis turning of the car is always present in the corners) and correct the spin via stopping one of the 4 wheels individually (abs sensors plays here main role, that's why when you pull abs fuse out, you cut off esp too).

Please explain how ABS eats brake pads? That doesn't even make sense.
if you don't have ABS, always have good tires that are less than six years old. Hard, old tires tend to slide more upon lockup.
Don't even have a WRX and I appreciate this. Interesting.

What a fitting name for the fuse, "SOL," sh!t outta luck.
Millions of people drove billions of miles perfectly fine before traction control came along. Just learn how to drive and all is good.

just put tape over the abs light, or pull out the bulb altogether.

I drove years with disabled ABS and prefer it. But one has to know his car well and how different roads in different weather conditions at different speeds feel/affect car with & without traction. I understand pros & cons but IMO it's not for everyone (especially not distracted drivers/texters).
I’ve been driving my 2005 Monte Carlo without abs for two years now. I just slow down and give myself more braking time
Angela Carlock I have a 2002 monte carlo, I was having problems with my abs/traction control kicking on when it wasn't supposed to, but the abs fuse was the same fuse for pcm, so I just unplugged the abs straight from the wheel, works good now
I just pulled my abs fuse... Can you still pass inspection though? 🤔
ABS is from the gubmint, and it is here to help you.
can I just pull my ABS fuse on 2000 suburban ?? eliminate the bullshit completely.heads up moving from Huntington Beach CA too Portland Oregon next month.good idea or bad idea ??
Unhooked mine years ago after it would not let my brakes stop me at 5 mph. Almost got in five wrecks before i got home.
I was having trouble with a stuck valve on the ABS, so I pulled the fuse and put black tape underneath the ABS light to block it off lmao.
Hi,
from past couple of days my 2012 Toyota Camry is making ABS self test noise every time i start my car and drive to 15mph. This sound wasn't there before. Can you please show if there is a fix for this.
thanks
Delete that crap cars worked just fine prior to abs, the only difference was people actually had to learn how to drive...
Yep, People apparently don't understand that cars don't need nannies to drive safely down the road if you know how to drive.
What in the hell are you blaring ESP about? Or you talking about Vehicle Stability Control???
yes, i'm talking about stability control, anti blocking systems etc (i think this is what was described as "nannies"). now, learn how they work and tell me if human can do it better..
So the brake don't freeze up? My abs is acting up I want to delete it to old school
Hey dude, you can be a twin for the rapper Mesus.
So if I want to do a burn out and I take off that thing do yall think I can do a burn out easily?
What are your.interior lights? Looking to upgrade those too!
why might the brakes suddenly lock up? after removing abs capabilities.
Yea i hate abs especially in the snow always feels like my rotors are gonna blow apart
Yes it won’t let me get my car sideways in the snow properly it’s so gay
Really cool video! I'd really want to see how this works at auto cross.
David Mudrik Are you going to take your new ride out to the Autocross?
Of course! Isn't the next one going to be in stockon? Also I'll be heading out to the quarter mile this Wednesday, very curious to see what is runs
David Mudrik Yep its in Stockton, I think it might be over 100 next week so you may want to wait. I think some of the I-club guys are going out soon to make some passes either this wed on next.
In that case I agree I'll wait. Heat soak would definitely win the race Lol
David Mudrik I checked the forum looks like they will make the decision Monday depending on weather . Brandon and Vladi are going out to see who's car is faster Brandon ran an 11.8 last time one run low boost with spinning all 4 wheels through first.
Ppl should be taugh about multiple braking it also make braking system better and wont make locking of brake ..
Liked your video gonna try it thanks
If you disable the ABS, wouldn't that stop you from passing the state inspection?
I just pulled my abs fuse and I'm wondering the same thing... Will it pass inspection 🤔
Drove for decades without ABS. Created for panic brake slammers.
Hey you can try just unplugging the harness to your and module and see if that works
11' wrx, sedan, built engine, manley pistons, Blouch Dom 1.5XT, Clutch is Stage 1 Exedy. Hate my clutch and transmission, I dd this car.
@@BlakesGarage Removed fuse in 2016 impreza and abs/traction control/lamp on, cruise was disabled as well as speedometer. My steering felt heavier (similar to my M3). And my brake discs got scorching hot after highway driving as if they were dragging, any explanations?
Hey,
Thank you very much, I love this video which is very very instructive !
I just pulled my abs fuse, hope I can get an inspection sticker 🤔
Hate ABS...does not allow me to modulate the brakes in slippery stuff.. it assumes the car can drive itself better than I can drive it..and now we know that is not true..
Me when i take out that fuse i cut off 4000 rpm need help plz
Hey guys brotip right here: don't do this on your Wrx if its 2015+. I did it on mine and the car's computer flipped the fuck out. ABS, traction control, hill assist, powersteering, speedometer, etc all went out and got a Check Engine light as a bonus. Don't do it unless you have an older model!!
Newer models car will go into limp mode.
hey I was considering doing this because of a malfunctioning abs pump on my mercury Milan. it is a reoccurring problem and common one on this particular model. when abs engages, pressure never returns to the brake pedal, obviously creating a major problem. Ford hasn't recalled but needs to! However, like I said I was considering pulling the fuse and disabeling it.. maybe not a good idea?
any luck. did it work ?
What was the outcome?
Pulled the fuse on my car and it would not start. 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo. It was a good try though.
Pulling the fuse will also disable your "Limited Slip". Aka, the electronics that will use the brakes to make the wheel trying to spin faster, spin slower.
Andrew Durkee most LSDs are mechanical. They use clutch packs instead of the brakes.
28 feb 2019 10:33 am est:
automatic-lsd/automatic-awd maybe use abs.
'Another variation on this is the fully electronic
diff, or e-diff. These will have a conventional open diff with no LSD
components, and instead the car's electronics will rely on wheel speed sensors and the car's ABS system to detect the early stages of wheelspin and use the car's braking system to limit the torque going to the wheel that's losing traction. It's a very effective system, while an advance of this is torque vectoring, which actively distributes power to the wheels with the most grip'
in www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/103829/what-is-a-limited-slip-differential
from google(limited slip differential depend on abs)
so maybe shutting-down abs,will shut-down automatic-lsd/automatic-awd/subaru-awd
nice video!
With a manual transmission you really dont need to touch your brake as downshifting will slow the vehicle down anyways...
Deejayy Mr Weirdo brakes are a lot cheaper than a clutch
@@FrankieOnWeedIn420p True, and so the solution is to rev match before downshifting so you don't wear out the clutch fast.
Do remember though that your ABS is tested during the vehicle MOT in the UK. If it is found to be disabled, its an instant major fault MOT failure!
Not just UK it's the same in entire EU. ;-)
Geee, just put the fuse back and use a cheap OBD scanner to reset the fault.
WITH OUT THE FUSE IN YOU WONT HAVE CRUSE CONTROL IT SHUTS IT OFF
Please help
how to disable track off buick rendezvous
Plus if you drive stick. Common practice is put it in neutral when coming to a stop. Taking all power off the wheels is like how the steam engines could stop quicker than diesel trains.
Problem is in today's world. Cars are becoming all automatics and therefore using electronic controlled crap transmissions. My first car is about to be a 95 Jetta GL with 5 speed manual. I already know I plan to pull the abs pump relay. As I have been driving my dad's 85 Chevy K20 for him. So I don't need abs junk.
Thx for ideea to my bwd lexus 😁because i turn off but is not dezactivate total :(
all the same lights are on , on my 2000 suburban..damn ABS pulsed coming to a stop hitting Bentley !!!!! FUCKINiG Chevy thanks for the fucking Bill mother fuckers !!!
Please how can i remove the ABS light on the dash... after disabling the ABS
Open the dash and pull the lamp out .
I removed my ABS fuse and now my TPMS light won’t turn off. Checked all tires and none are low 🤔
you gotta make sure if that the right fuse for abs
what hapening whit esmoke inspection . proble no pass ???.
i loose power steering in my forester (2015) when i pull ABS fuse... normal ??

It's very dangerous, my wrx without abs locks wheels without notice and sometimes does a full turn on the road very very dangerous
2001 dodge ram abs lite come on and my speed needle wount work are my power windows wount work
You will notice the difference on a wet road.
Im from the old school, ABS does not make u drive better lol all them blinking lights..pull that fuse..
will this reset the abs and or the tcs?
This proves that these devices have become incompetent to the feel of their vehicle and proper driver coordination ability and developing a proper skill level. Aviation is one situation, but this proves why there are so many stupid accidents because people don't tune into driving they tune out and have zero knowledge and zero sense of the vehicle as an extension of themselves not a replacement for themself.
Peace out!
you know whats funny? I remember before ABS. Learn how to drive and you are safer without ABS Period. They have dumbed down people so bad.
Could not say it better!!!
When I take my abs fuse out will it disable traction control?
Yes it will!
Blake's Garage cheers
Even if i pull all the abs fuses and turn off traction control it still has abs light and cuts power when i spin
I hate abs, juddering shite, I wonder if your insurance is void if you pull the fuse though?
In UK 🇬🇧 the car would not be Road worthy it would not pa's MOT test motor official test
I disabled my abs on the Prius and no power booster assistance.
Hard pedal.
You just use the stab method on the brakes
