- We both love football, so we decided to go and watch The Philippines VS Indonesia in the AFF Trophy at Rizal Memorial Stadium with all of the locals supporting the Askals!
We sat with the fans and enjoyed an amazing game of football, but what most impressed us was without a doubt the atmosphere, even small in numbers the Filipinos know how to party and they gave us a great night to remember.

The Azkals have once been Southeast Asia's surprise performers just several years ago. Now, sadly, they've not been doing so well. They need just more practice, maybe newer players, and maybe a new coach? ..... Fyi, however, the Philippines' women's team just became CHAMPIONS - a first time ever for Philippine Football - last year in the ASEAN Football Women's Cup. Now they qualify for this year's World Cup. 🇵🇭⚽️

where are you heading after sinulog? bantayan or malapascua islands are in cebu. or somewhere a bit farther such as boracay or siargao? you should also try to visit tagaytay which is 1-2hrs from manila before you leave 😊
We will be visiting Dumaguete, Siquijor then Siargao

Great to see you back guys! And thanks for supporting our AZKALS. The term "askal" is actually a constriction of Asong Kalye meaning street dog or stray dog.
Good to know you'll be going to Cebu for Sinulog. I hope you do Kawasan Canyoneering too. And i hope you can also travel to the areas just outside Metro Manila which are only about 2-3 hrs drive away like Tanay mountain resorts (experience sea of clouds), Masungi Georeserve, Splash Island, Enchanted Kingdom, and Tagaytay (Sky Ranch, Twin Lakes, etc.)

While you still in Manila, travel to the south going to Tagaytay city, a mountain city near Manila overlooking Lake Taal and Taal volcano.

That's a very old stadium seldom used. Filipinos are not into football that much yet. Basketball is the thing here. Big events happen in MOA arena, Araneta Colliseum, PH Arena.

MOA isn't so far to Rizal Stadium we can walk the way and pass the Cultural Center of the Philippines then right turn to Vito Cruz Ave. then Rizal Stadium but maybe farther to walk thou about 3 kilometers there
Soccer is not really played much here in the Philippines but basketball. I know Indonesia plays good soccer but I go for Philippines in spite of hehe. Thanks for cheering the Philiplines.

I guess foot fall ball is now becoming one of the favorite sport of Filipino because of FIFA World Cup. The Mall of Asia is building now a foot ball stadium, maybe it will increase the interest of fans to watch because this stadium is way more modern and more comfortable place to watch this game.

Thank You for supporting the Azkals team. Football in the Philippines was a popular sport in the 1920’s. This is evidenced by the fact that the stadium you went to was constructed way back in 1927. I believe it was constructed first before the basketball court. Basketball surpassed the popularity of Football, in the 1950’s. For decades, Basketball was the more popular sport. Football in the Philippines was revived around the early 2000’s. But boy, oh boy did it get revived. Last July 17, 2022, the Women’s Football team, formerly called the “Malditas” and now called the “Filipinas”, won the AFF Women’s Championship 2022. This qualified the team to play in the 2023 World Cup in Australia. I heard that the other teams had complained that they competed against foreigners and not Filipinos, as they said that the players “did not look like Filipinos”. Well, unlike other Asian countries, There is no typical “Filipino looking” Filipinos. Even the Azkals have many “Foreign looking” players. This is due to centuries of interracial marriages, which is still happening up to present day. There is even a video on RUclips, titled “Famous Half Part-Mixed Filipinos from Around the World”. Please do watch It so at least you could see examples of what I am trying to say. You may even know some of the Famous people there and may pleasantly surprise you.Have a Great Day or Evening.

Unlike our neighbors under the British, we're fairly new the game (it used to be referred to popularly as soccer and most exclusive boys' schools had it in their programs, later on adapted by other private and state schools); we do call it football nowadays, thanks to the formation, popularity of The Azkals. You'd think football would be more appropriate to Filipinos than basketball because of our physique and stamina.
Alas, the sport requires space, too, vs. just a ring and a ball in an alley =p As such, the sport has yet to reach the status of basketball among Filipinos. Just the same, the PHL continues to strive and hopefully thrive in the sport. (If you hadn't known yet, British-Filipinos (yes, of mixed heritage/Filipina mothers) were among the first drafted Azkals players.)

Oh, the sausage is pretty much looking like a pig in blanket😁 but the blanket is quite thin unlike in the UK wherein the blanket is pretty much thicker. It's been years since I had pigs in blankets in the UK. 😢
