  • Have you ever thought about visiting Minneapolis-Saint Paul in Minnesota? In this Minneapolis-Saint Paul travel guide we explore the Mall of America, downtown Minneapolis show you guys around Saint Paul downtown and around the Mississippi river while we are out and about doing a walking tour. Minneapolis metropolitan area is actually the 18th largest in America and considering that it is so far north it was once known as America's Siberia. We rode the Amtrak route called the Empire builder into St Paul from Milwaukee.

I often forget that it’s considered “cold” here. The changing seasons are beautiful. The real treat is the smaller restaurants outside of the cities. Sitting on a patio by the lake in summer is what we live for. Makes you really appreciate the nice weather when you have it.

@@n.r.8719 in St. Paul: Meritage. Lovely venue, everyone I’ve brought has raved.
Minneapolis: Martina, they have a fantastic cocktail menu as well, if you can only stop for a drink.
Outside of the cities there’s plenty of cute spots to hit up, I’m a craft cocktail girl so I’d recommend:
The velveteen, in Stillwater. It’s a speakeasy style cocktail bar with amazing drinks. Not really somewhere you’d go for a bite to eat, though. Stillwater is a gorgeous city in itself to walk around. You can basically Uber there and just walk from spot to spot. It’s on the river, and everywhere you go the drinks and food are great. Lolito cantina is another great Stillwater hang. Leo’s malt shop, another classic. You can dine in or walk up outside to the window to order.
In white bear lake, there’s a spot on the lake called admiral D’s- it’s not the *most amazing* food, but sitting on a patio by the lake eating alcoholic ice cream is a fave of mine. Get the monkey business. It’s so good.
I’m from about 25 minutes away from Minneapolis and St. Paul so a lot of my recs aren’t in the city itself. This isn’t really a comprehensive list but, there’s plenty of those on the internet lol. Hope you enjoy your stay and get a sense of “Minnesota nice” while you’re here

I am from Russia and i've visited this fine city way back in 2014, but during winter which was especially harsh that year. Even by local standards. I remember my friends from MN telling me: well, you're from Russia, this must be nothing to you. And i was like: Yeah, we have weather like this in July, big deal... In reality it was insanely cold. In Moscow, we never have winters like those in Minnesota. What a severe, strong and beautiful city Minneapolis is! Still has a special place in my heart. Hope visiting it in summer some day.

thing that I noticed was all the hot beautiful women everywhere in St Pete and Moscow! It's so sad that Russia is on our travel caution list.and who wants to go there and end up in prison? I don't think Putin would issue me a visa after all the bad things I've said about him on Facebook lol!

@MrOvnours I agree with you and it's probably because the US government is discriminating against good Russian people and it's not fair to you to not be issued a tourist visa. Most people are illegally entering the US from the southern border so it makes no sense to me to screw with people who are obeying the law when traveling.

    • @MrOvnours
      @MrOvnours Месяц назад

@@joefisher1972 well it's a bit more complicated than that actually. The thing is that the US consulates simply don't work in Russia as well as ours don't work in the US. We have expelled so many each other's diplomats that there's physically no one to issue (or not to issue) visas. You can of course go to any neighboring country to get a visa there, but for that you gotta have extra time, extra cash, and extra nerves lol. I don't feel as much discriminated as being taken for an idiot. Despite all sanctions and countersanctions, there is actually trade going on between Russia and the US, including the most sanctioned spheres like oil & gas or microelectronics. But God forbid tourists travel freely between these two countries! No, no, we will mutually ban 'hostile' airlines from our airspace and won't issue people visas. That will drive Russia out of Ukraine / make America stop blowing up our pipelines... This is ridiculous.

I raised my children in Minneapolis and they still live there. I've since moved to Texas due to the harsh cold winters. But I loved living in the Twin Cities. The public transportation is great, the diverse cultures represented, the fine arts, sports, a vibrant downtown. AND the home of PRINCE!!! Your video was good, but I know due to the time, you missed many attractions like the Minnehaha Falls, the big Cherry on the spoon sculpture. I love visiting, but as you mentioned, I only visit now from June thru Sept...don't want to get caught in the snow. BUT, this being a winter city, there is plenty to do during those winter months. Thanks for a great representation of my town.

Just want to add some interesting info, and I'm not even a resident of Minnesota. The Twin Cities are unique in that there are two pretty vibrant cities just a few miles apart from one another. (Dallas-Ft. Worth is not in any way comparable, since those two downtowns are 30 miles apart.) And there is an incredible culture of arts there. Not one, but TWO Grammy-award-winning professional orchestras (sorry, I'm an orchestra geek, LOL). And there are more professional live theaters per capita than any city in the US other than New York (the Guthrie mentioned in the video has won a Tony Award). There is also the Walker, which is widely considered to be one of the Big Five modern art museums in the country. And I've seen that multiple restaurants and chefs have won many James Beard awards in the last 10 years.
And my god, there's a crap-ton of Fortune 500 corporations headquartered there, which probably explains why it is such an affluent metro. I checked, and last count there were 17 F500 companies headquartered there. I think that's the 4th or 5th largest concentration of gigantic corporations in the US. Far more than other comparable metros like Seattle, Atlanta or Denver. I believe Minneapolis also has the headquarters of the world's largest Private Corporation - Cargill - but correct me if I'm wrong.
I travel a lot. The Twin Cities are an underrated gem and I'm always happy to spend time there.

Interesting video, but oh my, he omitted some of the most beautiful attractions of the Twin Cities. I lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul(mostly Minneapolis) for over 40 years. One of the most beautiful attractions is the chain of lakes in Minneapolis....beautiful beaches and city skylines, and great(free!) music concerts all summer long! In addition, Minneapolis is home of the famous Minnehaha Park, a gorgeous attraction with the Minnehaha Falls, a 50-foot waterfall. Both cities also have terrific bike paths, so you can bicycle for miles without having to ride on city streets. Also, the South Minneapolis neighborhoods, in particular, have their own special "vibes", especially The Wedge and Whittier neighborhoods...very unconventional and welcoming. Both neighborhoods have a yearly "Cat Tour" where hundreds of residents walk the streets to be greeted by their local cats. And Minneapolis is home to Powderhorn Park, host of the locally famous May Day Parade.....a wonderful celebration where everyone can participate if they wish.....lots of giant puppets, folks walking on stilts, and young kids in their Mayday costumes; nothing else like this.

The State Capitol building of Minnesota is one of the most gorgeous Renaissaince-Noveau buildings on the planet. Scrap that, it's possibly up there with the finest buildings of all time. St Paul's of London, the Basilica of Santa Mariza, Palazzo Contarini, Washington Capital and the Marciano library in Venice all fall short of the glory in Minnesota State Capitol.
Only the Wrigley building in Chicago can really match it for plain, honest niceness. The whole city of Minnesota just has this nice vibe to it. I know about the riots, but in general the city looks so clean. It looks like the cleanest metropolis ever.

The fact that the MOA is so empty is a harbinger of the future of this building.

Just out of curiosity, why are there barely any people on the streets? I see only a handful of people in each shot. The park was completely empty on a nice summer day? Is it the time of day or is it generally like this?

Nice video, but the dude needs to get his facts straight. The Wild play at the Xcel Center in downtown St. Paul and the mall in Edmonton is the biggest one in North America.

He corrected himself near the end of the video. And he said the Mall of America is the biggest in the US, which is true. He didn't say "North America."
