As a Chargers fan this man played with a fucking TORN ACL in the AFC Conference Championship game without Gates or LT, 17th in passing yards, 16th in completions, 13th in touchdown passes, and 6th in passer rating. He was Ironman for us. He gave us his best years. 2006-2010 should’ve been a Super Bowl win for us. His last best shot with us was 2018-2019 and we fucked it up. I was hoping he’d win it all with the Colts but unfortunately didn’t happen. Thank you for the good memories Rivers your censored trash talk was on another level.
The most common things I heard. "Philip Rivers throws an interception to end the game" or "Rivers leads a come from behind touchdown, then the San Diego defense gives up a touchdown ending the game". Welcome to Chargers fans life. You can see whatever you want in the guy lol
Being forced to play hero, the man had a cannon and laid it all out when it mattered. Knowing your defense can't stop the opposing team and that your kickers are ass makes you play more desperate as well.
Jesus Christ this is just painful. The amount of blown opportunities goes beyond comedic to point its rather sad. I think the chargers may legitimately be cursed. RIP Rivers, and god help J Herb.

A lot of these was him getting the ball at his only 30 with 30 seconds left. I don’t blame a QB for throwing up a prayer as a last resort. He’s a gunslinger. I much rather see him throw a pick when the team desperately needs to get down the field with no time left than see someone like Teddy Bridgewater throw a 5 yard pass on a 4th and 7 and lose but not throw a pick

Those same reporters are too worried about flip-flopping between kissing players’ asses to get interviews, yet sensationalizing headlines when they have one or two bad games
Philip Rivers is a hall of famer. He def blew some games but the Chargers team as a whole let him down more than vice versa. Marlon McRee fumble, historically bad special teams, consistent choking defenses, bad kickers, etc. As a Chargers fan our franchise was absolute trash Rivers carried us for so long and deserved better!
I admire Rivers, but carrying a team as a qb doesn’t make them a hof. Other qbs who carried poor teams like Matt Stafford’s, Archie Manning, etc. will never sniff the hof because they’re missing key qualifications. Now rivers is unequivocally better than those two qbs, but that doesn’t help his hof chances. He was rarely ever the best or 2nd best qb in the league because he was always overshadowed by Brady, manning, Rodgers, brees, and favre. That’s why he doesn’t have accolades necessary for the hof like mvps, all pros, and opoys. Now, if he had a career like Big Ben and won multiple sbs, despite never being a top 2 qb, he would have a solid chance at getting inducted. But he didn’t even make a sb. U mentioned the rest of the team as the reason for why he failed to make a sb, but that doesn’t mean he should be absolved of blame. He submitted some poor performances that contributed to his losses. Overall, Rivers was a great qb, but he isn’t a HOFer.
@@kalebdegroot7825 when he was in Detroit (he didn't start for the rams before I published my comment), he definitely wasn't better than Philip Rivers. That could change based on his current performance with the rams, but Rivers was definitely better than Detroit Stafford.
I like how you’ve commented 7+ times on this video. In a lot of them, you blame the *receiver* for the interception and not Rivers. I admire your dedication.
As a Colts fan, I spent 15 years hating Philip Rivers and 1 year developing a deep respect for the man even if he was past his prime by the time he got to Indy. In hindsight, I have to say that Rivers was a lot of fun to watch and he fought as hard as any QB in the NFL. Unfortunately, though, I think his career is best summed up with the phrase, "Close, but no cigar."
@@secondarycolors2947 yeah he made mistakes but even the best all time make a ton of mistakes. He discredits quarterbacks who are great just to be different. Tom Brady especially. I'm a Steelers fan but Tom Brady is literally one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
This is a perfect time to make another video on Aaron, Barry. Highlight all the shit that the Packers have done to waste his career and all his teammates failures in big games. (Yes, of course Aaron has had a few games where he didn’t play well but the vast majority of his playoff losses were defensive failures)
Aaron has shown repeatedly that he doesn’t show up in big games. And yea Aaron’s bad day might be better than most’s good day but when you want to be considered in the same tier as Brady and Montana you gotta be better in those big games.
@@wv4776 I mean, he has been good in most big games. This past loss was probably his biggest choke and even then he did enough to win if not for the special teams meltdown.
You got your wish but the people replying below likely won't admit it. People idolize sports teams. The HC, owners & players can change & they feel loyal to the concept of 'The Team.' Ergo, the _Packers_ are great & if they lose, blame A Player. But as Barry has shown, the Packers are _not great_ in playoff games. Won't matter. The instinct to blame someone, especially someone who won't or can't call anyone out for it will always appeal to the majority, in real life as well as Lord of the Flies.
Dan Lebatard had a joke about Phillip Rivers always needing to score a TD with 30 seconds to go from his own 30 yard line and it makes me laugh every time because it’s so true. He wasn’t perfect but he was great but so unlucky
@@pw383426 A lot of those picks I saw were on his receivers. He sucked his last year with the Chargers, though. The thing is, Rivers, was such a QB savant; that he was able to put up hall of fame career numbers with a slightly above average arm strength and the ugliest throwing motion in NFL history.
The 2007-2008 Chargers roster is maybe the most stacked roster ever... On offense you have Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles, Antonio Gates, absolute stud OL and on defense they had Jamal Williams, Stephen Cooper, and lights out himself Shawn Merriman. The only reason they didn’t win the Super Bowl that year it’s because Rivers and Tomlinson and were both playing through injuries.
@@Anon-zl4ne Even if an average Brady showed, neither game would have been close. But, both times he had one of his worst games of the year and all the credit goes to Eli even though he still needed a lucky play to pull it out.
It is not a long shot he is a shoe in. I did a 2,000 hour study of all of the Hall of Famers whose careers started after 1947. I first compared their stats to the average QB of their era and then those percentages to the other Hall of Famers or Famers to be. Rivers ranks a very solid 20th out of 31. His final score in my study was 448.7 and anyone above 375 should be a shoe in. He scores better than Dawson, Kelly, Elway, Layne, Stabler, Griese, Namath, Bradshaw, Starr and Aikman and right behind Warren Moon.
Matt Ryan has a higher shot at being a HOF than Rivers. He has a SB appearance, and the three highest honors a QB can get all in one season (1st team All Pro, MVP and OPOY). He will very likely finish with higher counting stats than Rivers as well.
Rivers is actually my favorite quateback just because of his style and personality. Also chargers have cool jerseys lol. Awesome vid, def shows how he was a turnover machine
Refusing to move to Los Angeles & instead hiring a driver for hours of commuting every Chargers work day for 3 seasons is the only thing that gets Rivers HoF consideration. 😂
@@DannyMeasho999 probably because he already lived in San Diego for over a decade, and the fact that Dean Spanos (By the way fuck Dean Spanos) completely betrayed San Diego all so that he could maximize profit likely pissed him off.

You forgot to mention that the two picks against the jets in 09 were 1 a ridiculous pick that bounced off of the receiever and defenders ass and 2 reciever running the wrong route, but it doesnt fit the narrative
These are interesting and I love the research that you put in. I am adding what I learned during my 2,000 hours of research, calculations and time writing the book on the greatest quarterbacks of all time. I agreed with you about Eli and Brady. Although I think you are a little harsh on Tom but I absolutely understand because I had to rewrite my chapter on Tom because I was also too harsh. As far as Rivers goes I have him ranked 20th out of 31 QBs either in or definitely going to be in the Hall of Fame. The top score in the study was 716.7, an average quarterback scores 258.5 and Rivers scored a 458.7. That is well above the 375 that I feel should be the line for entry to the hall. He scores better than Dawson, Kelly, Elway, Layne, Stabler, Griese, Namath, Bradshaw, Starr and Aikman. As far as his percentage above average is concerned Rivers finishes nearly every one of the 16 categories right near the middle of the pack among these Hall of Famers. If he could have played as well after the ACL injury as he did before for those 15 years as a starter he would be a top 5 all time quarterback. But it was not just the injury that may have slowed him after his torrid 6 year start, it was also his lack of protection. In his seventh season he was sacked 49 times. Rivers is clearly a Hall of Famer, it is not a close call.
@@krisxchirbas9503 The title that I have chosen is "The First Scientific Study of the Greatest Quarterback of All Time". The book is finished but it is not in print yet. Hopefully it will be before spring.
@@Anon-zl4ne I agree that Fouts is better but I wouldn’t take anything away from Rivers. He was as much of a MFIC as Fouts. My mom’s been a Chargers fan since the 60s and made the same comparison. Both were very prolific passers that fell short. Fouts had better offensive weapons while Rivers had better defenses. She also would choose Fouts over him. But it also can’t be understated how cursed that franchise is. John Hadl, Dan Fouts, Drew Brees and Philip Rivers and only 1 championship and 0 super bowl appearances amongst them but yet always injured Stan Humphries got them to a Super Bowl.

And you also forgot to mention that the chargers front office fired marty after their best season because of drama that was out of rivers' control, but it doesnt fit the narrative
I feel Rivers is kind of Like Carson Palmer, good quarterback, but they never did anything to make me feel they were HOF bound. I do think he is a great qb, and does have the stats. I am sure later I will add Matt Ryan to the same list of Qb's.
when they say Interception ... sometimes its due to the reciever not catching. Im not a Rivers fan like, oh its not his fault. But we gotta remember you could throw a ball and they drop or bounce off their head then interception happens.
If guys like Warren Moon, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Dan Fouts, Ken Stabler, Bob Griese can make the HOF Then Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, Big Ben and even Russell Wilson should make it
@@gridirongod4207 I mean saying Ryan, Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Wilson are hall of Famers isn't really a hot take( cause they all are), plus all those guys you named are more than deserving of their spots in the hall, Especially Fouts considering the fact he revolutionized the QB position.
Rivers is the only QB in history to have double digit comeback wins when being down by 14+ late in the 4th quarter, Rivers has 14, no other QB eve has 10.
I think more than anything Rivers embodies what happens when your organization truly fails you. Bad coaching, no offensive line, putrid special teams, more often than not bad defenses, and what might be the worst kicking luck I've ever seen. Yes, he had INCREDIBLE weapons nearly his entire career. Antonio Gates, Darren Sproles, LT, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Vincent Jackson, Melvin Gordon, Danny Woodhead, Austin Ekeler, Malcom Floyd. The list could go on and on. They certainly made his stats look better. But let us not forget something: many of his top weapons were not first round picks. The push and pull of talented receivers to talented passing ability is on full display with Rivers. Ultimately I think Rivers is what you see in him. As a Chargers fan I see a guy that never missed a single game, took a beating week after week for 14 years, could make every single throw, and was an excellent leader. As a casual fan? You probably see a guy that threw a bunch of picks in the fourth quarter, was always yelling at teammates, and went 0-8 vs Brady. The truth? Somewhere in between. I've never once seen a former teammate say a bad word about him, I really only see one unforgivable poor playoff performance (2009 vs Jets), and 15 years of his teammates constantly failing to reach the moment. In the end, 2018 is pretty much an embodiment of what Rivers career SHOULD have looked like. He put up incredible numbers, made endless clutch throws, and his defense/kicking was up to par to produce 12 wins. Only problem? Against the Patriots - when it counted - his defense and offensive line fell apart while Rivers made nearly zero mistakes. I think he's a Hall of Famer.... just not a first ballot one.
As a Chargers fan I know how cursed and just how ridiculous of ways they find to lose games. Rivers generally always put his team in positions to win and they would lose the game on things like missed fgs, penalties, muffed punts, coaching among other things. Put Phil in the HOF goddamnit
They had been right there with all the heavyweights of the AFC from 2004-2009, the Jets, the Colts, Patriots, Steelers... and it was mostly competitive. The conference was just loaded. The problem is that the Chargers organization gave up after that playoff loss to the Jets in 2009. You could see they never retooled, much like the St Louis Rams after they lost Super Bowl 36.
I feel like a HoF QB is someone who makes you hold your breath every time they throw the ball in the 4th quarter. Peyton Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees.... these are guys I hated betting against. Philip Rivers always made me comfortable if I bet against the Chargers. I like Rivers and respect his legacy but half the QB's in the NFL will have comparable stats to him in the modern era.
See, that's how I feel. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Good, although there's a decent amount of people in there for no reason other than they're old Steelers and Packers players during their glory years. Namath doesn't belong in there. I don't think every Lombardi player belongs in there, along with Noll. Good players, sure, but I'm not 100 percent on say, Stabler either.
@@bretarmstrong6303 Agreed. And I don't feel like stats should be the sole determining factor either. I think guys like Julian Edelman are the kind of players whose impact was beyond stats. Guys like Khalil Mack too. They are capable of dominance and have huge games but they also force teams to commit to double teaming them. Getting 100 receptions is great, but it can sometimes be just as important to create havoc and allow other players to get easy catches. And getting 15 sacks in a season is awesome but drawing double teams, batting down passes and making QB's uncomfortable are things that we can see, but don't usually consider when it comes to the HoF. But like you said, just being a member of a dominant team shouldn't give guys an easy path to the hall. People need to recalibrate what a HoF runningback is now because guys aren't getting 32 carries a game any more. Same goes for QB's and receivers. Throwing for 4,000 yards every year shouldn't matter if it's coupled with 20 interceptions and 9 losses. 65% of starting Qb's have thrown for 4000 yds per season since 2010. There are probably some WR stat-heros on shit teams but people also need to know how much of those stats were accumulated in garbage time. It's a lot easier to tack on an extra 60 or 70 receiving yds against a prevent defense, when your team is consistently down by 10+ points in the 4th quarter
@@RustCole01 Now you're a football fan I can talk to that just doesn't sound like a miserable drunk pissed off that the Falcons (or whatever miserable fan base) suck. I am not convinced Edelman is a Hall of Famer, but I get where you're coming from on the impact part. And yes, Adrian Peterson realistically, might be the last running back to have those kinds of stats (Henry too if he lasts awhile), so yes, we do need to re-assess the game from a stat point. I mean, I gotta be honest, if someone says Matt Ryan and Rivers belong in it, then why not Eli? And Eli, imo, was never very good. What's stopping Romo from being in at that point? It's a slippery slope if you ask me. A Pro Bowler and a Hall of Famer are 2 different makes I think. And nowadays, passing stats are kind of pedestrian compared to the old days. All of those QBs I mentioned probably have had way better stats than say Bart Starr. There needs to be some kind of balance here I think to who makes the Hall. Starr won championships with a dynasty, and I think he belongs. Griese, eh, he played for an undefeated Dolphins team that he didn't even play for because he was hurt. Championships don't mean everything, and fantasy numbers don't mean everything either, but they're both factors obviously. Marino won no championships, and Eli won 2. Almost everybody will say Marino is in fact deserving. Peyton won just as many as Eli, and we all know him to be the better QB. These are all things to consider when you think about it. Please reply back, I legit want to know how much of that you agree or disagree with, you seem like a smart dude in all honesty. It's great to talk objectively about this sport sometimes instead of, "Ah fuck you, you're a Seahawks fan!"
@@bretarmstrong6303 "I mean, I gotta be honest, if someone says Matt Ryan and Rivers belong in it, then why not Eli? And Eli, imo, was never very good. What's stopping Romo from being in at that point? It's a slippery slope if you ask me." This exactly ^^. I'll respect what all these guys achieved as football players but if the committee's keep letting guys in because they put up stats, the Hall of Fame is gonna be more crowded than a subway in China. If Eli gets the nod for winning 2 SB's.... so be it, but I don't think he had the makings of a varsity athlete. Either way, I think objective, statistical metrics should get a reasonable amount of consideration but there also needs to be a narrative that explains why a player deserves to get in. I'm from Boston originally and I'd like to get behind a guy like Matt Ryan (Boston College) but he is in that same category of Rivers and Romo. And it's not just the SB loss. It was his Eli Manning-like performances when things weren't going great. He had some great, outlier seasons but he posted quite a few dud seasons too. All that said, I would probably vote yes on Julio Jones because he is the main reason that Matt Ryan even gets consideration. And besides that, he impacts the way defenses scheme against the Falcons and he requires so much attention that it frees up the rest of the offense. Derrick Henry is probably earning his way in but I think RB's are gonna have to be analyzed more within the model of a Christian McCaffrey or Dion Lewis.... capable backs who are equal parts, rushing and receiving threat. But if people keep clinging to stat arguments then Jameis Winston and Frank Gore will end up being first ballot Hall of Famers.
Brady isn’t ‘lucky.’ He’s just good enough to capitalize on opportunities. Every Quarterback will get a chance to change the game at some point over the 4 quarters. The exceptional players are those who can consistently convert opportunities into points on the board.
It's almost like when there's 4 minutes left or less left in the game, he turns into Phillip Puddles First ballot fantasy football hall of Famer for sure. He was always a thrill to watch throw the ball. Them LT teams were the most entertaining I ever seen.
Listening to all the times the Chargers tucked tail and punted away games makes me even happier we have Staley now and his love of going for it on 4th downs!
@user-lv5rj6ur5o hey, I'll say this...Staley had zero HC experience and leaves the Chargers with a .500 record, injuries aside, based off the history of the team that's a successful tenure👍
Man, it sucks that the 8-8 team in 2008 suffered from many close losses with Rivers going insane; I'm hoping it doesn't become a theme like with the Falcons and Matt Ryan.
This honestly felt like you went in with a pre conceived notion, and did your best to confirm it, rather than give an honest assessment. The fact of the matter is, from 2008 onward, no QB in the NFL had more pressure placed on them by their organization. Philip Rivers had Philip Rivers. It's easy to look at the box score and think Rivers choked, but any honest evaluation would see that's wrong. Rivers was the only reason any of those games were even close to begin with. The Chargers during that Rivers era are the Browns of that era without Rivers. Every talented player that walked through that door left, or was pushed out for no reason, Vincent Jackson was run out of town despite being the best receiver Rivers had until Keenan Allen showed up, and Allen was injured a lot while Rivers was around. He had gates, but honestly, Gates was kind of a shell of his former self for a vast majority of that time. What you were seeing in those 4th quarters was a Quarterback forced to win games, with subpar receivers, defenses that could not hold a lead, and Kickers who would fuck up 100% guaranteed if it was left up to them. And don't even get me started on the garbage head coaches he had to deal with. The best coach he had was there for 1 season, and the 2nd best head coach was Norv Turner. I honestly want you to truly let that sink in. Norv Turner. The guy infamous for being a mediocre head coach, was the best after Marty got shafted for no fucking reason. I could honestly keep going, I was there for all of it, but I feel like I made my point. I'll leave it at this. Philip Rivers is the Dan Marino of his time, and 100% belongs in Canton, if for no other reason, than as an apology.
As a colts fan who got to see the ups and downs of a 39 year old quarterback yes he had some big blunders and did choke at times but for every great win has chocked at some point he just had really bad luck imo
Watching the Colts win right now with Wentz and that stud of an r.b. has got to make Rivers shake his head. Perfect timing with the afc South in the sewer. I'm so gonna laugh my butt off if the Colts make the super bowl due to wide open a.f.c.

I’ve been making this argument since he retired, I watched a lot of of his games and most of his numbers came in garbage time. He had a bad habit of putting his team down by 2 to 3 touchdown and then trying to bail them out throughout his whole career, so a lot of his numbers look great but in the end, he’s just a good quarterback I would never want him on my team.
He has elite or hof seasons every time the chargers have a abole averege OL. He wasnt a mobile qb, só chargers fail to protect him, and thats why He cant play at his best in all those years. For me, theres worsts qbs who haverá achive hof, rivers deserve a jacket, mas é not in The first ballot, but He and gates deserve to be there
Just wanted to point out, that Rivers only once ever had an "above average" pass blocking O-Line, and that was with the Colts. The best protection he had in front of him as a Charger was in 2013 when it was 21st, still below average as 16 is average. The rest of the time as a Charger the O-Line rankings of their starters in pass protection was never better than 26th, and mostly was top 3 worst. And that was their starters, not even counting the injuries they had to deal with. 1 example was 2019 when they didn't have a single starter left on the entire O-Line by the end of week 6 and by the end of the season they had gone through 13 different O-Linemen. BTW, that year they starters were ranked 31st in the league yet those starters basically didn't even get to play. That's the kind of so called "protection" Rivers had as a Charger. Not once was it even average let alone above average. 2018 even though they had 9 different O-Linemen and it was still ranked 31st in the league in pass blocking Rivers put up MVP numbers and was only out shined by the Mahamones 50+ TD season. Rivers was 2nd in line for MVP behind that shitty O-Line. Main difference from 2018 to 2019 (the Center Mike Pouncy stayed healthy all 2018).
I would have loved hearing Barry talk about the 2010 Chargers special teams. I realize this is a Philip Rivers video, but their special teams were so mind-blowingly bad I would have loved to hear what he would say about it. Rivers a definite HoF player, put him on the Packers in place for Rodgers and they’d still have 1 Super Bowl, he’s a qb that terrorised my Raiders for years but I just can hate him, he deserved better.
Team success is usually not that important unless you get great teams and many opportunities to win a Super Bowl but you don’t because you failed to be Clutch and always failed when needed.
If Phil had a good special teams... we wouldn’t be asking this question.... dude could’ve led league in clutch wins. But I’m starting to see a pattern.... missed field goals.....
Eli and rivers seem so similar. Tough, dominant in the 4q, both on pretty weak franchises. Eli just had a team build on defense and rivers had a team built on offense resulting in higher stats but less results. The results may have been pretty similar if they switched places
I think Philip Rivers was the best quarterback the Chargers have ever had and he DEFINITELY deserves to go down in franchise history and have his number retired. NFL Hall of Fame? Well, maybe not first ballot, but he deserves to be in there more than Eli...

Meritocracy. Sports writers in legacy media are there because of politics, not merit.
because Barry is the goat

@@antonioiniguez1615 now that I agree with, he only threw 20 or more touchdowns once and had no all pros
All this showed me is that Phillip rivers is the greatest 4th quarter late game interception thrower of all time
Rivers is the only QB in history to have double digit comeback wins when being down by 14+ late in the 4th quarter, Rivers has 14, no other QB eve has 10.

"I mean, I gotta be honest, if someone says Matt Ryan and Rivers belong in it, then why not Eli? And Eli, imo, was never very good. What's stopping Romo from being in at that point? It's a slippery slope if you ask me."
This exactly ^^.

Like how can a team fuck up so badly as to have TWO BLOCKED PUNTS ON CONSECUTIVE DRIVES WITHIN FIVE MINUTES
It's funny how you can locate the exact year that San Diego fires Nate Kaeding simply by how less frequently "missed field goal" is heard from there on out.
Let’s ask the Magic Conch Shell.
I will always wonder why they fired Marty. Man, they were a clown show most of his career. I’ve never seen such bad luck. Rivers would have had so many rings if he played with Pittsburgh
Definite hall of famer, best QB in team's history, best QB from 2008-09 and got snubbed from MVP.
Consistent Barry is 🐐 Barry
Football is such a great game but also so sad when legends like this can never achieve championship success. I just wish everyone could go to the HOF
Correct... Keep these AWESOME videos coming.👍🏽🖤💯
Phillip is the nicest guy. His kids went to my school for a few years, they were in elementary when I was in middle and highschool. He ran a mini summer camp for our highschool football team, and he invited the team over to his home for a team party. His wife is the sweetest person I've ever met, no cap.
Keep the content up, these videos fire, respect the grand 🤝
Rivers a definite HoF player, put him on the Packers in place for Rodgers and they’d still have 1 Super Bowl, he’s a qb that terrorised my Raiders for years but I just can hate him, he deserved better.
I think we can all agree that Brady is the goat
NO one Asked
Literally everyone’s favorite QB had to deal with Tom Brady. 99% of the time you would lose, unless you’re Eli or Nick Foles....
Team success is usually not that important unless you get great teams and many opportunities to win a Super Bowl but you don’t because you failed to be Clutch and always failed when needed.
I appreciate your channel bro keep it up💯
If Phil had a good special teams... we wouldn’t be asking this question.... dude could’ve led league in clutch wins.
Weird, I didn't know that the quarterback was the only player to take the field in the 4th quarter. I thought it was a team sport.
He IS a Hall of Famer! *sniff* to his friends!
I'm curious as to what your opinion on cam newtons career so far is.
He thinks Cam is overrated
