Sportswriters were pissed about the season being shortened by a labor strike. Plus tons of normally good teams were really bad because their best players opted out of the year. The kicker winning was basically a protest vote by the writers saying that the season shouldn't count.
The one out of this whole video I just don't get is the Earl Campbell one his team was scoring 22 points a game his defense was letting up 20 points a game his defense gave up more yards than their offense gained they were expected to be an 8 and 8 team and he carried them to an 11 and 5 record and almost scored half of their touchdowns. Meanwhile Roger staubach had one of the best big play RBs in the league of that time Tony dorsett in the backfield.... But seriously a kicker won an MVP what the hell happened?
You have a point with LT winning MVP over Peyton. But I can definitely say you’ll see a QB throw for 31 TD’s and 4,300 yards at least 100 times before you see a running back go for 1,800 yards and 31 total Touchdowns.
Agreed and if the award were for the player who had the best season (as compared to history and his peers) then it would be LT. But the award is called MOST VALUABLE PLAYER and therefore it goes to the player who holds the Most value in terms of importance to their team winning - this is why the top 12 paid players in football are QB's, because it is inherently the most valuable position. If you want an award that goes to the most dominant player/season regardless of their value then i am not opposed (You could see guys like Aaron Donald and potentially even Justin Tucker winning the award) but giving an MVP in 99% of situations to anyone other than a QB simply goes against what the title of the trophy means.

Its rare for a team to win it all on roster talent outside of the qb position. Really I can't think of it happening in recent history outside of Denver and maybe Baltimore.
Then maybe the award should only be for QBs, and another mvp award should be made for other positions, because while I agree that the QB is the most important player on the field, it is absolutely possible in my mind for other positions to be more valuable to their team.
I have a problem with Barry calling short touchdown runs “padded” touchdowns, what about the passing touchdowns that qbs would get that are 5 yards or less……or touchdowns where the wide receiver does most of the work are those not padded touchdowns?

AP carried a terrible Vikings offense to an 11-5 record Manning joined an offense with weapons that even Tebow won a playoff game with. Replace Manning with a B plus QB and they’re still a 10-11 win team but a B plus back like Gore on the Vikings and they suck.
AP rightfully deserved that MVP. He was far more valuable to the Vikings than Peyton was to the Broncos. He was literally the entire offense. He faced 8 man boxes all season and still churned out over 2K rushing yards. His value to his team was immense and I don’t see how he couldn’t have gotten the MVP.

While I do agree with many of your opinions and takes, u have now said that cam padded his td’s by scoring near the goal line instead of letting his rb’s do it, but then said that Faulk padded his td’s with 10 1 yard td runs his mvp year. So, what are offenses supposed to do if the qb and rb shouldn’t score? Let a backup rb get take the ball every time they’re inside the 10?

He’ll use narratives instead of facts sometimes, and often says things to further his agenda for certain players that contradict something else he said for another player. The only real argument he used is that he isn’t a scorer and scoring is the most important and valuable part of basketball. The whole thing about scoring touchdowns from less than 10 yards out is a weird argument. You're putting up the same 6 points, and it's also possible that the 2 yard touchdown was only scored because the player broke a big play earlier in the drive

Every single run play or play in general is based on how good the o line is against the d line. You know, passing TDs shouldn’t count because it comes down to how good the WR is against the DB. There are 22 players in the field and every one of them matter
2014 Romo led the league in passing rating at 114, qbr, td%, yards per throw, completion percentage. Only qb not to get mvp leading in those categories, crazy thing is that he lost it to another qb. Romo also went 12-3, (missed a game vs Arizona they lost) and really went 12-2 since he missed the second half of one of their losses. And 1 of his 2 losses was on Thanksgiving when he had 2 broken bones in his back and broken ribs and could not take pain meds because Romo had to wait a week before taking them again. And Thanksgiving is on a Thursday. Crazy thing is that Romo was 3rd on the mvp list. Only qb to lead in those categories and not win mvp, and was third on the mvp behind a qb and his own runningback who went 0-4 in the games Romo either missed or was so injured he could barely throw it normal. Where as when Murray got hurt the offense was better. In fact the game murray was the most injured cowboys changed their game plan to 90% passing the first half and Romo threw 132 yards and 3 tds with over 14 minutes left in just the 2nd quarter. Against a team who went to the afc championship that year. They did only 1 more series some passing at the start of the 3rd went down threw a 4th td. But the rest of the game just ran the clock down. Stewart was never a true #1 back. He's always been the power back. Look back to when DeAngelo Williams was around, that's when Stewart was most effective. Newton also had to work with Ted Ginn, Corey Brown, Jericho Crottchery and Brento Bersin at Wr. His only saving grace was Olsen always getting 1st downs and big plays.

The V in MVP stands for Valuable, not Impressive. 4,600 yards are obviously more valuable than 2,000. 37 TD’s are obviously more valuable than 12 touchdowns. If you were going to give the MVP award to the most impressive player, then AP still didn’t deserve it. Calvin Johnson breaking Jerry Rice’s receiving yardage record is obviously more impressive than Peterson “almost” breaking Eric Dickerson’s record. AP was objectively the wrong choice.

Ladainian Tomlinson is an easy disagree for me tbh, Rivers was just okay that season. I feel like just saying "player had x amount of TDs on the goal line" is leaving out context. If a RB is the guy engineering the offense to the goal line, you cant take away his TD credit bc he scored on the goal line. 8 game stretch where he had over 100 yards rushing and 2+ TDs. He had the 2nd most yards from scrimmage all time (at the time) to go along with his record breaking 31 TDs. Without him i dont even see the chargers having a winning record that year. You say 23 of tomlinson's 31 Tds came inside the 10 yard line but 2006 Manning: of his 31 pass TDs, 17 were inside the 10 yard line with 15 of those being inside the 5 yard line. Wouldnt you say that leaves out context to how important he was to the team? Also i know he won the super bowl that year but he sported a 3/7 TD/INT ratio in the playoffs whereas LT had 185 yards on 25 touches and lost bc of how poorly Rivers played and his defense intercepted the ball on 4th down then fumbled it right back. For that year he did, I mean there was no one else who put up better stats that at least made playoffs that year. I guess if Romo didn't break his throwing hand in overtime week 6 maybe he would have. Romo was on track for 4500 yards and 37 tds that year before getting injured which was an amazing statline for 2008 standards. Or at least never took off the splint on his throwing hand as he had 2559 yards and 21 tds with over 100 rating in 9 games he played and went 7-2. Then took off the splint from his throwing hand the last 4 games for some reason, was throwing weird, and went 1-3 with a 6-5 td-int and only 889 yards, and a 70 rating. But outside of Romo, any other qb who was on track or had better stats than peyton didn't have a winning record.
I understand most of your points made, the thing that gets forgotten with the mvp is how important the “story” is. For example on top of having a great season 2012 Adrian Peterson was coming off a torn acl which was one of the biggest storylines in the league that year, which helped him win mvp
Honestly, I don’t think it should just be about stats. APs story is unbelievable and statistically impressive as hell when you look at his teams passing game. Also I disagreed with his take on Lawrence Taylor. While yes Dan Marino was impressive statistically especially in that context. LT led a team with top defense and mediocre offense to a dominant season. As a Steelers fan I must say that Cam deserved that MVP. The way Cam played that year went far beyond the stat sheet as he made plays no other quarterback could make. Additionally, he had a great impact on his team as the swagger and confidence he brought contributed to the momentum they would use to win 15 games. So overall, Cam was the best and most impactful player in the league that year and no one can take that away from.

Agree with most of this except one thing, what is “padding TD numbers” just because it’s within the 10 or 1 it isn’t a pad… a lot of times your team needs those points and scoring in the red zone is hard. Every point counts and it doesn’t really matter how far or long the play was.

Disagree on Newton. Greg Olsen was a great TE, but it's not a coincidence that his best years coincide with Newton's best years. Olsen was better because of Newton, less so the other way around. I find it also hard to buy that a point against Newton was that he had a great RB, which you have mentioned multiple times doesn't hold as much positional value. If you're a QB on a 15-1 team, and put up unprecedented TD numbers (in terms of the rushing to passing TD split), you're going to win MVP. Palmer was great that year, but not nearly enough to overcome Newton's resume. To be fair, that's the only one I truly disagree with. The rest I think are defensible, if not outright correct.
Not to mention Stewart wasn't even that good just serviceable. He'd be a short yardage specialist on any other team. That's without even getting into the receivers he had outside of Olsen; do the likes of Ed Dickson, Ted Gin, Devin Funchess, and Philly freaking Brown strike fear into the hearts of any defense?
Cam was trash in 2014 and 2016 and Olsen had pretty much the same stats. 1008 6 tds and 1073 3 tds is not much different than 1104 7 tds when you consider that Newton had a by far and i mean by far the best season of newton's career. Yet it only effected olsens stars slightly.
you can disagree with the concept of the mvp award if you think giving the most prestigious award in the league to whoever happens to be the most objectively valuable, which is largely based on position, instead of giving it too whoever excelled at their position the most is boring or stupid, but that doesn't mean this interpretation of the award is wrong.
Tomlinson literally had one of the best seasons ever and scored 9 touchdowns past 10 yards which is insane and literally was his team how is that not the most valuable

So the defense is playing "prevent" not to give up any big plays, n thats when QBs pad the stats the most. When it really doesnt matter at that point in the game anymore

The Saints, even with their terrible defenses in 2008, 2012 and 2014-2016, were in all but 2-3 games a season for the most part until close to the end because of Brees. He should’ve got it in 2011. I get that Aaron Rodgers had more TDs and less INTs but there’s more to QB than that. How did Marshall Faulk pad his stats lol? The OC told him to run and he did....in the endzone....with the ball in his hand....over and over again. It's even more impressive that a 5'10, 211lb guy can do that consistently at the one-yard line. I am of the belief that any skill player can win MVP and more OL need to need OPOY. Certainly a fair amount of years QB's should win it (The Dan Marino snub was crazy) but it's more nuanced than the ideation of "QB's will always be more valuable than RBs" especially pre-brady/manning and having Ponder and Joe Webb as your QB (AD was rushing for 100+ yards with 8 or more men in the box lol).
If you want to know how valuable it is to have a running back that can get the ball in from the 1 yard line, just watch the Vikings this year and look at what a disaster Alexander Mattison is. I honestly think that guy could lose yards even if the defense only had 10 men on the field.
I just can't get behind this idea that "scoring touchdowns inside the goal line isn't valuable." Being able to score on the goal line is massively valuable. Every drive that ends in a goal line stop by the defense would have loved a sure-fire goal line scoring threat. That also doesn't take into account how much work the scoring player put in on the drive preceding the touchdown. If Tomlinson was responsible for 60 yards rushing on a drive that got the Chargers to the one yard line, and he then punched it in for the score, is that "stat-padding"? A lot of your arguments against non-QBs are centered on this idea that their TD totals are padded, and I just don't think that argument holds any water.
it also doesn't account for the QBs who also scored a lot of their TDs within the 10, it's just kinda a flawed idea in general bc scoring TDs shouldn't be seen as a negative just because of proximity. Like, would a RB with 5 TDs of 50+ yards be better than a RB with 14 TDs but no TDs over 20 yards? I guess short TDs can be seen as stat padding, but plenty of QBs stat pad their yards and TDs as well, and that isn't really adjusted for at all.
I really don't understand that logic. He's taking away good RB play because it's not as flashy as a long touchdown? If a RB is great in the red zone, that's a massive positive to an offense. You can still be a valuable asset to the team offense if you're getting a lot of yards throughout the game too (like LT most definitely did)

As much as Barry (and most NFL fans) hate Tom, his MVPs are undisputable. 2007-Went 16-0 and broke the touchdown record. 2010-First ever unanimous MVP for a reason. 2017-Won it by default since Wentz got injured. No other QB came close that year, either.

Alan Page - 1971: The problem with trying to argue against this is that Page's stats are probably incomplete due to tracking of sacks not becoming a thing until a decade later. Earl Campbell - 1979: No counters, Staubach should've won this one. Mark Mosley - 1982: Context is very much needed to understand this. The points that Mosley accounted for were literally the difference between Washington winning Super Bowl XVII and not making the playoffs at all. What about all the short touchdown passes thrown by Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, etc. One factor in the explosion of touchdown passes in the NFL is the greatly increased number from inside the 10 yard line, many inside the five. Peyton Manning completed 215 touchdowns from inside the 10 yard line - 90 from 3 yards and in. Also, what about the Terrell Davis receiving the 1998 NFL MVP from the AP over Randall Cunningham? Cunningham had one of the greatest passing seasons of all-time while leading his team to a 15-1 record and setting the NFL single-season scoring record of 556 points.

After watching a lot of your videos I find it tough to say that great quarterbacks are actually that valuable considering all the all-time great quarterbacks who either win no Super Bowls or only win one Super Bowl the conclusion I've drawn from a lot of your videos is that having an all-time historically greater even the greatest quarterback ever means very little in terms of winning it seems to be far more important to have a good offensive line and a good defense long as you have a decent or not horrible quarterback and a great defense and great team around that quarterback you have a better shot at winning than having an all-time great quarterback and a subpar team around him
I disagree, the QB position always gets the mvp, it should be called now mvqb. To me other positions are as important, nowadays 5 or 6 QBs have above 35 Tds, its not unusual, for example last year other QBs had similar stats to Rodgers, but the season Henry had was out of this world, he was the 7th or 8 player all time to rush for more than 2000 yards (in comparison a 40+ td year for a QB is common this days) , he dominated the league. Of the last 20 mvp's, 4 are RBs 16 QBs, of those 20, none has won the superbowl in the year which they won. Rodgers threw 48-5 td-int which is a record breaking td-int ratio, top 5 in passing tds season of all time, and had a 121 passing rating which would be the record if not for Rodgers 122 passing rating in 2011. Henry had a great year running threw the biggest holes of all time without being touched particularly against nfc south teams. But that isn't going to beat a qb with a record breaking season.
The biggest oversight in this video is that he constantly mentions players "padding their touchdown stats" by scoring close to the goal line, and then goes on to say a QB was snubbed because he had a ton of passing yards. News Flash: QBs can pad their passing yard stats... like a lot.

@@AdolphSaxOfficial they didn’t in 2009. They were 20th in points allowed and were average or worse in a lot of other stats. The only thing that defense did well was force turnovers and they forced them to the point that it masked a lot of their issues that season.

Not even close. 2009 Saints defense was #20 in points, #25 in yards, #20 in yards per play, #26 in pass yards, #21 in rush yards, #26 in rush RPC allowed, #19 in rush TDs allowed, and #18 in points per drive. They were excellent at takeaways, didn't allow a lot of pass TDs, and some of the points and yardage giving up is misleading since they had a lot of blowout victories which meant the opposing was mostly playing in garbage time but I still wouldn't consider that defense good just average at best.

What you are missing in this is that back in the day in the 70’s through to the early 2000’s Running backs where the heat and soul of an offence. Yes Old time writers got hard for power backs like Earl Campbell because without him the Oilers can’t sustain drives. This has changed as time has gone on thanks to the likes of first Elway then Manning and Brady into modern football. Also LT literally killed the league with how dominant he was in 86. His season is so rare and he changed how his position was played for years to come.
I don't think the MVP should default to the QB position with other positions only considered as an afterthought. I understand the concept on most valuable, but if it's going to be the QB EVERY year, then it seems more like the BQB award rather than MVP. Personally, I don't believe a non-QB will ever win MVP again. And defensive player? Forget about it.

There are times on certain teams when the running back is more valuable than a quarterback. Overall I get the stance, but in those instances when a running back is good enough to put the team on his back I think he should be rewarded MVP. I was playing retro bowl and my wr got mvp because he got 2800 yards and like 25 tds I know it's retro bowl, but it's still crazy i was able to get a WR to be MVP. The Tight End got like 500 yards and my runningback had 6 rushing yards and 1000 receiving yards.
Most of these seem fair but IMO Lawrence Taylor deserved his. Marino had like 20+ interceptions that season which you can say most aren’t his fault but they still are his stats.
The thing about Mosley's MVP award is that it is for the most *valuable* player, not necessarily the *best* player in the league. Mosley's was the difference between Washington finishing at the bottom of the standings and having homefield advantage during the '82 playoff tournament. Fouts was obviously a better player but Washington TE Doc Walker said he wouldn't be able to flash the hardware without Mosley's performance in the regular season.

Bruh cam newton was freakin dominant that year. He did have an elite defense but the offense was trash. Greg olsen was an elite TE but that’s it. Jonathon stewart was an average RB. Our receivers were Corey brown, ted ginn jr, Jericho cotchery and a rookie devin funchess. Put carson palmer on that team and he’s going 10-6 at best.
LT deserved it over Manning. 2300 total all purpose yards and 33 TD’s is something that’s never going to be seen again. Peterson deserved it over Manning too “after career threatening neck surgery” like Adrian Peterson didn’t come 8 yards short of setting the record after tearing his ACL which is a career threatening injury.

TBH I think Russel Wilson should have won MVP in 2019 instead of Lamar. He carried a terrible defense and played behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league that year with all of his running backs hurt at the end of the year. That Seahawks team even managed to win a playoff game and was a dropped catch away from beating the packers in Green Bay. Lamar Jackson had one of the best rosters in the league that year.
Lamar led the league in passing touchdowns, had a 6:1 td-int ratio, set the NFL record for rush yards by a QB, and went 14-2 while only having Mark Andrews as a legitimate weapon.

Agreed and if the award were for the player who had the best season (as compared to history and his peers) then it would be LT. But the award is called MOST VALUABLE PLAYER and therefore it goes to the player who holds the Most value in terms of importance to their team winning - this is why the top 12 paid players in football are QB's, because it is inherently the most valuable position. If you want an award that goes to the most dominant player/season regardless of their value then i am not opposed (You could see guys like Aaron Donald and potentially even Justin Tucker winning the award) but giving an MVP in 99% of situations to anyone other than a QB simply goes against what the title of the trophy means.

AP rightfully deserved that MVP. He was far more valuable to the Vikings than Peyton was to the Broncos. He was literally the entire offense. He faced 8 man boxes all season and still churned out over 2K rushing yards. His value to his team was immense and I don’t see how he couldn’t have gotten the MVP.

He’ll use narratives instead of facts sometimes, and often says things to further his agenda for certain players that contradict something else he said for another player. For example, he said that bill Russell is overrated and not really an all time great player. The only real argument he used is that he isn’t a scorer and scoring is the most important and valuable part of basketball. Yet he still has lebron as the goat when he isn’t even a top 10 scorer of all time and could be argued even lower than that. 2014 Romo led the league in passing rating at 114, qbr, td%, yards per throw, completion percentage. Only qb not to get mvp leading in those categories, crazy thing is that he lost it to another qb. Romo also went 12-3, (missed a game vs Arizona they lost) and really went 12-2 since he missed the second half of one of their losses. And 1 of his 2 losses was on Thanksgiving when he had 2 broken bones in his back and broken ribs and could not take pain meds because Romo had to wait a week before taking them again. And Thanksgiving is on a Thursday.
Crazy thing is that Romo was 3rd on the mvp list. Only qb to lead in those categories and not win mvp, and was third on the mvp behind a qb and his own runningback who went 0-4 in the games Romo either missed or was so injured he could barely throw it normal. Where as when Murray got hurt the offense was better. In fact the game murray was the most injured cowboys changed their game plan to 90% passing the first half and Romo threw 132 yards and 3 tds with over 14 minutes left in just the 2nd quarter. Against a team who went to the afc championship that year. They did only 1 more series some passing at the start of the 3rd went down threw a 4th td. But the rest of the game just ran the clock down. The V in MVP stands for Valuable, not Impressive. 4,600 yards are obviously more valuable than 2,000. 37 TD’s are obviously more valuable than 12 touchdowns. If you were going to give the MVP award to the most impressive player, then AP still didn’t deserve it. Calvin Johnson breaking Jerry Rice’s receiving yardage record is obviously more impressive than Peterson “almost” breaking Eric Dickerson’s record. AP was objectively the wrong choice.

You say 23 of tomlinson's 31 Tds came inside the 10 yard line but 2006 Manning: of his 31 pass TDs, 17 were inside the 10 yard line with 15 of those being inside the 5 yard line. As a Steelers fan I must say that Cam deserved that MVP. The way Cam played that year went far beyond the stat sheet as he made plays no other quarterback could make. Additionally, he had a great impact on his team as the swagger and confidence he brought contributed to the momentum they would use to win 15 games. So overall, Cam was the best and most impactful player in the league that year and no one can take that away from.

Disagree on Newton. Greg Olsen was a great TE, but it's not a coincidence that his best years coincide with Newton's best years. Olsen was better because of Newton, less so the other way around. I find it also hard to buy that a point against Newton was that he had a great RB, which you have mentioned multiple times doesn't hold as much positional value. If you're a QB on a 15-1 team, and put up unprecedented TD numbers (in terms of the rushing to passing TD split), you're going to win MVP. Palmer was great that year, but not nearly enough to overcome Newton's resume.
To be fair, that's the only one I truly disagree with. The rest I think are defensible, if not outright correct.

How did Marshall Faulk pad his stats lol? The OC told him to run and he did....in the endzone....with the ball in his hand....over and over again. It's even more impressive that a 5'10, 211lb guy can do that consistently at the one-yard line. I am of the belief that any skill player can win MVP and more OL need to need OPOY. Certainly a fair amount of years QB's should win it (The Dan Marino snub was crazy) but it's more nuanced than the ideation of "QB's will always be more valuable than RBs" especially pre-brady/manning and having Ponder and Joe Webb as your QB (AD was rushing for 100+ yards with 8 or more men in the box lol).
If you want to know how valuable it is to have a running back that can get the ball in from the 1 yard line, just watch the Vikings this year and look at what a disaster Alexander Mattison is. I honestly think that guy could lose yards even if the defense only had 10 men on the field.

Being able to score on the goal line is massively valuable. Every drive that ends in a goal line stop by the defense would have loved a sure-fire goal line scoring threat. That also doesn't take into account how much work the scoring player put in on the drive preceding the touchdown. If Tomlinson was responsible for 60 yards rushing on a drive that got the Chargers to the one yard line, and he then punched it in for the score, is that "stat-padding"? A lot of your arguments against non-QBs are centered on this idea that their TD totals are padded, and I just don't think that argument holds any water.
it also doesn't account for the QBs who also scored a lot of their TDs within the 10, it's just kinda a flawed idea in general bc scoring TDs shouldn't be seen as a negative just because of proximity. Like, would a RB with 5 TDs of 50+ yards be better than a RB with 14 TDs but no TDs over 20 yards? I guess short TDs can be seen as stat padding, but plenty of QBs stat pad their yards and TDs as well, and that isn't really adjusted for at all.
I really don't understand that logic. He's taking away good RB play because it's not as flashy as a long touchdown? If a RB is great in the red zone, that's a massive positive to an offense. Jim Brown - 1957: I'm really torn on this one. On the one hand, Jim Brown is the greatest running back in NFL history, and on the other hand, Johnny Unitas was the prototype for modern quarterbacks. Also, I think the season was still only 12 games long at the time.
Paul Hornung - 1961: I've got no counters for this one, as much as I admire the Lombardi Packers. Jurgensen got bamboozled.
Alan Page - 1971: The problem with trying to argue against this is that Page's stats are probably incomplete due to tracking of sacks not becoming a thing until a decade later.
Earl Campbell - 1979: No counters, Staubach should've won this one.
Mark Mosley - 1982: Context is very much needed to understand this. The points that Mosley accounted for were literally the difference between Washington winning Super Bowl XVII and not making the playoffs at all. Considering that it was also a strike-shortened year, and the fact that kicking might actually be the hardest job in the sport, I can let this one go.
Lawrence Taylor - 1986: I strongly disagree with Barry. Lawrence Taylor was the most feared defensive player ever, a player who single-handedly made decades worth of schemes obsolete as coaches frantically tried (and failed) to stop him from taking over games. The Giants don't win Super Bowl XXI if Taylor isn't there.
John Elway - 1987: Well, if there was any year that a WR should've won MVP, it was this one.

Peyton Manning completed 215 touchdowns from inside the 10 yard line - 90 from 3 yards and in. Also, what about the Terrell Davis receiving the 1998 NFL MVP from the AP over Randall Cunningham? Cunningham had one of the greatest passing seasons of all-time while leading his team to a 15-1 record and setting the NFL single-season scoring record of 556 points.

After watching a lot of your videos I find it tough to say that great quarterbacks are actually that valuable considering all the all-time great quarterbacks who either win no Super Bowls or only win one Super Bowl the conclusion I've drawn from a lot of your videos is that having an all-time historically greater even the greatest quarterback ever means very little in terms of winning it seems to be far more important to have a good offensive line and a good defense long as you have a decent or not horrible quarterback and a great defense and great team around that quarterback you have a better shot at winning than having an all-time great quarterback and a subpar team around him

I disagree, the QB position always gets the mvp, it should be called now mvqb. To me other positions are as important, nowadays 5 or 6 QBs have above 35 Tds, its not unusual, for example last year other QBs had similar stats to Rodgers, but the season Henry had was out of this world, he was the 7th or 8 player all time to rush for more than 2000 yards (in comparison a 40+ td year for a QB is common this days) , he dominated the league. The same thing happened to CJ2k back in the late 2010's.
Its unffair the QBs get all the love always, plus the rules benefit them the most...

Of the last 20 mvp's, 4 are RBs 16 QBs, of those 20, none has won the superbowl in the year which they won. I get the thing that the QBs is the most important position, but if a player gets an all time récord, he should be above a bunch of QBs with similar stats, not only RB, all positions, including defense.

Rodgers threw 48-5 td-int which is a record breaking td-int ratio, top 5 in passing tds season of all time, and had a 121 passing rating which would be the record if not for Rodgers 122 passing rating in 2011.
Henry had a great year running threw the biggest holes of all time without being touched particularly against nfc south teams. But that isn't going to beat a qb with a record breaking season.
The biggest oversight in this video is that he constantly mentions players "padding their touchdown stats" by scoring close to the goal line, and then goes on to say a QB was snubbed because he had a ton of passing yards. News Flash: QBs can pad their passing yard stats... like a lot.

@@AdolphSaxOfficial they didn’t in 2009. They were 20th in points allowed and were average or worse in a lot of other stats. The only thing that defense did well was force turnovers and they forced them to the point that it masked a lot of their issues that season.

Not even close. 2009 Saints defense was #20 in points, #25 in yards, #20 in yards per play, #26 in pass yards, #21 in rush yards, #26 in rush RPC allowed, #19 in rush TDs allowed, and #18 in points per drive. They were excellent at takeaways, didn't allow a lot of pass TDs, and some of the points and yardage giving up is misleading since they had a lot of blowout victories which meant the opposing was mostly playing in garbage time but I still wouldn't consider that defense good just average at best.

I'm still fairly new to Football, the first game I saw was the Pats vs Falcons in the Super Bowl. But it's still strange to me that kickers are considered the least respected position in the sport. Considering the sport is called *Foot*ball. Still great video

What you are missing in this is that back in the day in the 70’s through to the early 2000’s Running backs where the heat and soul of an offence. Yes Old time writers got hard for power backs like Earl Campbell because without him the Oilers can’t sustain drives.
This has changed as time has gone on thanks to the likes of first Elway then Manning and Brady into modern football.
Also LT literally killed the league with how dominant he was in 86. His season is so rare and he changed how his position was played for years to come.
I don't think the MVP should default to the QB position with other positions only considered as an afterthought. I understand the concept on most valuable, but if it's going to be the QB EVERY year, then it seems more like the BQB award rather than MVP.
Personally, I don't believe a non-QB will ever win MVP again. And defensive player? Forget about it.

There are times on certain teams when the running back is more valuable than a quarterback. Overall I get the stance, but in those instances when a running back is good enough to put the team on his back I think he should be rewarded MVP. Unfortunately due to QBs throwing the balls to the wideouts I don’t think we’ll see a WR MVP

The thing about Mosley's MVP award is that it is for the most *valuable* player, not necessarily the *best* player in the league. Mosley's was the difference between Washington finishing at the bottom of the standings and having homefield advantage during the '82 playoff tournament. Fouts was obviously a better player but Washington TE Doc Walker said he wouldn't be able to flash the hardware without Mosley's performance in the regular season.

Bruh cam newton was freakin dominant that year. He did have an elite defense but the offense was trash. Greg olsen was an elite TE but that’s it. Jonathon stewart was an average RB. Our receivers were Corey brown, ted ginn jr, Jericho cotchery and a rookie devin funchess. Put carson palmer on that team and he’s going 10-6 at best.

Playoffs don't count for MVP, so it doesn't even matter, but Lamar had 500 total yards against the Titans in the playoffs and his receivers had a bunch of drops, including an interception which hit Andrews in the hands, that "Elite Defense" also played like shit in the Titans playoff game.
As for how "Elite" that defense was, it was certainly good, but a large reason why it was able to be so good was that Lamar's offense *DOMINATED* time of possession, meaning the defense was on the field less than any other in the league. Lamar routinely lead 9-10 min clock draining drives which wore out opposing defenses and allowed the Ravens' defense to rest.

TBH I think Russel Wilson should have won MVP in 2019 instead of Lamar. He carried a terrible defense and played behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league that year with all of his running backs hurt at the end of the year. That Seahawks team even managed to win a playoff game and was a dropped catch away from beating the packers in Green Bay. Lamar Jackson had one of the best rosters in the league that year.
Lamar led the league in passing touchdowns, had a 6:1 td-int ratio, set the NFL record for rush yards by a QB, and went 14-2 while only having Mark Andrews as a legitimate weapon.
