If Mahomes pulled an Andrew Luck tomorrow morning in the name of getting inducted into the hall of fame faster than anyone else, the speed runner in me would cry tears of bliss
How much of his contract is guaranteed? If he suffered a major injury this year he should seriously consider it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he spends a decade or more chasing the impossible 20-0 season. That's his best argument over Brady or Montana if he can pull it off.
@@geordiejones5618 About $180m (shitty mental math but in that range) is guaranteed but he has a $200m injury guarantee based on his 2023 restructure. As much as it would be fun to see Mahomes speed-run Canton, that fucking psychopath is gonna play until he's 45 or unable to play
This is legitimately one of the most high quality videos i’ve ever seen. The writing, the editing, the content, the idea. all amazing. i beg you to make a multi-hour documentary of some kind. i would so watch it multiple times.
This is the beauty of content creation. ESPN would never be able to come up with such an interesting subject let alone objectively cover it. Great job!
I remember being in middle school watching your George Kittle video, and that being the catalyst for my interest in football beyond just casually rooting for the Ravens and watching the Super Bowl every year. Almost 6 years and a very mediocre high school football career later, I’m beginning my first college classes tomorrow, and the NFL has consumed far too many of my waking thoughts. Glad to see you’re posting consistently again.
SetTheSummoningSalt with another banger. Hoping my favourite player of all time Jake "The guy Who can't decide wether he's Calvin Johnson or Kadarius Toney" Bobo A.K.A. "The boss" would be in canton while only playing for less than 5 years!
Through watching this video I considered who could do it faster , right after I did the math (I got 4236 days) to see if Patrick mahomes could break it with a sudden retirement I think it is certainly possible for Gale’s record to be broken , although unlikely it is certainly very possible Although Patrick likely (unless he watches this video) will not retire before the start of this season, he would absolutely be a first ballot hall of famer. I’d like to imagine someone akin to Patrick mahomes talent wise being put in an Andrew luck situation , it is absolutely possible and within enough years could be likely. Not to hype up Caleb Williams , but imagine this. Caleb Williams comes out hotter than any rookie ever (I think he has the talent) has a very good season and even maybe a deep playoff run, bears upgrade next year and let’s say they win two Super Bowl in 4 years 2 mvps, franchise records , maybe season league records (certainly unlikely but walk with me) Following this the bears (not a well run franchise as of late) start to slack and let some lineman slip away and draft bad for O-line, perhaps they paid him far too much (6yr/ 400 mil), Caleb Williams gets absolutely beaten and battered for two season. Doesn’t want to continue due to growing injuries , retires. I think the career is enough to make him a first ballot and demolish the record. Thanks for reading if you did, but all in all , I’d say situations like this can be extremely possible with a generation talent drafted early to a poorly run team. Imagine Patrick Mahomes drafted by the browns , he still makes them great through bad ownership and leadership. Sacrifices his body in the process, or even a career ending hit.
My criteria for what is a HOF let alone a first ballot is the following: -At least 8 years played. During those 8 years, at least 5 of them you were the top 3 in your position. -All-Pros, Pro-Bowls, -Awards like MVP, OPOY, or DROY, super bowl If you got that, I think its pretty much guaranteed
I personally think Stafford is a Detroit legend, and he finally got a ring with LA. You think he can make HOF? Obviously not first ballot, but maybe 5-6 years after eligibility?
Thank you for showing ken anderson he deserves to be in the HOF. I'd love to see him in a gold jacket (i am a bengals fan, if you wouldn't figure it out)
I think it’d be a fun thought experiment if you pinpointed what the “theoretical sum of best” would be like you did with Mahomes at the end. Who could’ve grabbed the record if they didn’t shoot for longevity instead
Gil Sears' 30 yard return average is so fucking insane. How is that not brought up as one of those records that will stand for a century if not forever? If a special teams player did that today they might get a few MVP votes just for the amazing field position that player would be getting for their team and the actual sleepless nights he'd be putting on every special team coordinator who has to gameplan against him.
There is not a shred of doubt that had Barry not retired early, he would be the current all time leading rusher and the first player to ever rush for 20,000 yards in a career
How would the injury glitch factor into total split time? If I miss an entire season in the middle due to injury, would those times be considered loading screen? Perhaps an angle worth exploring for when you feel your team can't help you gain accolades that year, just use the standard ACL strat
Okay, I'm a fairly new football fan, started watching around 2016, so I'm not the most familiar with the history of fooball. But how the fuck did the bears from 65 on until sayers/butkus retired have such a horrible record? Like one of the greatest running backs and linebackers in NFL history on the same team and they still manage to go 1-13??
You can have all kinds of great players but one on offense and one on defense has never been enough to make a huge difference. The best teams in history had STACKED rosters with multiple HOFers on both sides of the ball.
I feel like an interesting follow up video to this (but also probably much harder to make) is who could have broken sayers record had they chosen to retire early in theory, like mahomes.
Now all we need is a video about the longest time it took for an NFL player to get into the Hall of Fame. Ive got a feeling a lot of Raiders will be on that list.
The only way I could see someone breaking the record is if they waive the waiting period for someone in the future (like the Hockey Hall of Fame does on rare occasions) but if they didn't waive it for Brady I don't see them doing it for anyone
Ok but these speed runs kinda require a reason to end your career prematurely. What about the runs that could have been except that the player kept playing? Who (other than Mahomes) has had a hall of fame start to their career but then didn't stop?
special s/o goes to andrew luck for trying lmao. but while we're talking about HoF. lets all agree theres no way in hell hester should be in the HoF. especially bunny hopping players like hines ward and so on. hell if we're just gonna say its cause he's one of the greatest special team players ever. i'd say to you shane lechler would like to have a talk with you!
Shane Lechler and Sebastian Janikowski were maybe Oaklands two best players ever and they had them at the same time. It's honestly criminal Lechler hasn't even been considered.
As soon as you were questioning if anyone could break Sayers' record, I immediately thought "If Patrick retired now, then yes" right before you said it lol. But I'm glad my QB1 ain't going for that record lol

Nah that’s not stupid, that’s a logical assumption based off the title of the video

Glad you mentioned Kuechly, he was literally the only player who popped into my head that could enter the top 5 who’s already retired.

15:00 Anyone send this to Brandon Perna yet? I think he’d support Mahomes’ speedrun
Ended the video with the quintessential Summoning Salt theme, no notes. Also, Dick Butkus is 100% a speedrunner's name.
I love watching Gale Sayers run.

Now we need the longest hall of fame speed runs
Jerry Kramer of the Packers has gotta be up there, he retired in 1968 but wasn't inducted until 2018, a whole 50 years after his retirement

Kurt Warner played in 11 NFL seasons but really was only a full time starter for 5 of those seasons, and he made the HOF on the third ballot.

8 years played or 8 years rostered? Cuz as pointed out Sayers really only played 4 1/2 seasons. Terrell Davis really only played 4 1/2 seasons.
i caught that summoning salt music in the background
Looking forwards to rewatching this video early next year when Luke Kuechly becomes a 1st ballot HoF-er

Fascinating and original video idea. Deserves more views. Great stuff.
We should've gotten the fake out before number one of "and his name was Matt Turk"
Absolutely elite music choice. Excellent video as always man!
For some reason, my brain thought this would be speedrunning the Hall of Fame in Madden
It would take a tragedy to beat the record. A player so amazing that it can't be denied and then have his career ripped away by injuries..

7:25 friendly reminder that Adrian Peterson rushed for 2097 yards less than a full year removed from tearing his ACL

It's called home resonance
The use of the song Summoning Salt constantly uses (HOME - We're Finally Landing) at the end was a great choice.
Pretty sure Luke Kuechly will be one of the best NFL speed runner
This was an awesome video. I knew who was number 1 and it was still interesting.
I’ve always thought of the HoF as “can you tell the story of the NFL by omitting this player?”
Well that's kinda dumb cuz there's almost 400 Hall of Famers and certainly some of them would be omitted in such a story.
@@CaseyWinehouse absolutely not. Every single HOFers story is part of the NFLs story. All of them are Intergral parts to the mythos of the NFL.
