The map "Exploration Gone Wrong" is a great map to venture through! A very spooky map with no serious jpeg jumpscares. Lots of ambience and is designed around sound.
oh my god YES! I love that map, and it made me genuinely spooked. I think the Amnesia Lantern mod really works with the map as well, you get a decent orange glow that surrounds you but it has a short range so you don't know what may be in front of you, keeping you in suspense, I recommend you try the lantern on any good horror map.
@@DrunkenLuna last night after reading the initial comment, I reinstalled the map and even to this day it still makes hairs raise, though it could be a little lighter on the jumpscares, maybe have some built up tension. and I'll be damned if the part where you need to crawl between the pipes didn't creep me out with the sound of heavy breathing in my ears.
it's also neat to hear custom sounds/sounds from other games like Cry of fear or SOMA... not sure where the crying sound came from, my guess would be... Silent Hills P.T.?
I have an Index, the best way I can describe playing most lower-fidelity VR games is that it DOES look real like you're really there, but it looks like the entire world is made of papercraft because of the simple geometry with textures painted on. So especially Garry's Mod levels which tend to run on potatoes can look a bit angular and papercrafty. Harsh razor sharp 90 degree angles stand out as more unrealistic than usual. I'm a developer and make VR games and I find I have to bevel pretty much everything. Of course, games with high visual fidelity built for VR like Alyx are a totally different ball game. You walk into rooms in Alyx and feel like you're in a 100% real room. Quick tip, drum your fingers along the Index controller any time you feel like the finger detection is off. Drumming multiple times on the controller makes it attempt to recalibrate.
Blackbrook Asylum is the first map, just a note: There is actually a ghost in this map, not a jumpscare and you can't really see her if you don't look really carefully. I won't spoil it if you wanna look for her, but I'd just leave a hint: She's gone once you get too close, and leaves a sound cue that actually can be heard in this video. Second map is gm_gleb and also has some ghosts, several, but those are easier to find.

If you interact with it, it will let out a loud high pitched scream, then if you shoot it, it will make another similar sound and turn into a pool of blood on the ground replacing the couch and then a skull missing its jaw will appear on the storage rack. I thought the map was semi-normal apart from the dark figure (which you also missed while your attention was focused on what seemed to be a figure, but was just a roof vent) on the roof so this caught me so off guard and scared the shit outta me. I really like how you take your time with these maps and explore. Lets the ambience build up and the viewers to get immersed. One suggestion is if maybe you could bump the sound up a little for the game. Really enjoying your channel so far.
You have to hold trigger to use the default crowbar. You can think of it as a ranged hitscan gun with a very low range, because that is what it is. If you search the workshop, you can also find entries for VR Crowbars, which enable you to use it just by swinging it.
i like that you dont really edit your videos cuz your commentary is great, you have a talent for describing your feelings and the things you see without preperation
Sometimes you have to start it manually while in-game. If you go into the console and type "vrmod", the menu will come up with a button that will start SteamVR. If that doesn't work, maybe mod conflict?
@@TheLibrarianYT I only tried it a couple months back so i forgot what was wrong. Thanks for the heads up though, i might end up giving it another try!
Yeah stuff loading in gmod is a thing all source engine things do, it could either be a custom sound, texture, or objects, usually its objects, because it takes more space, for some reason gmod doesn't have suport for pre-cache for addons, which would help the loading problem.

It’s neat seeing you do VR Urban Ex. I can’t play VR for two reasons: motion sickness and I’m just not willing to drop big $$$ on technology that’s still in its infancy in regards to the home market.
I never got motion sickness and modern vr had been out for years, my reverb g2 has the fidelity of a 4k tv, it is expensive though
@@jeff-hd9og Well I can get motion sickness if I can't see my own body but can see movement (like in VR or in a car at night). I know VR has been out for years but I'm just not impressed enough with it. I'll stick to PC and Xbox. Oh Cod... I've become just like those old farts who think PC is still best gaming platform! Nooooooo!

Now this is content I subscribed for.
oh wonderful a new upload, always a treat
Even just watching it as a 2D, normal video, it's so immersive... because of the hand movements, camera movements. Games usually have the weapons, tools, etc. fixed to the camera which is functional and nice, but watching that and watching this... such a very different experience.
Yo, i recently found out about your channel, I LOVE your gmod content, I think it'd be fun if you did some liminal space gmod maps in vr like liminal hotel!
Listening to you talk while you experience maps in VR is super relaxing! You should def make more vids like this!
You are too brave man
22:36 THAT MADE ME JUMP. Hate to unexpect things jumping out of closets.
Glad I found this channel. I love these types of videos.
just recently got into your channel, love the way you word feelings about maps and that you take your time and make it an experience
all of your videos have me on edge I love it
You are super underrated, you are entertaining to watch
great video man
I really like how you take your time with these maps and explore.

"That's not what I wanted"
Aw man source maps feel like a home to me. Love it so much, great content :)
i like that you dont really edit your videos cuz your commentary is great, you have a talent for describing your feelings and the things you see without preperation
these videos make me so happy and idk why
From exprience, it's seriously an odd feeling to be inside gmod maps in VR. It enhances the backrooms aspect quite a bit. Great video!
I’ve just discovered your channel recently and your commentary is comfy. I could listen to you talk about anything for hours.
I couldn't get VRMod to work for myself but this style of walking through maps is a really nice fit for VR!
Keep up the good work. glad I subscribed.
DUDE THIS IS AWESOME
Creepy and comfy go together very well!
Yeah stuff loading in gmod is a thing all source engine things do, it could either be a custom sound, texture, or objects, usually its objects, because it takes more space, for some reason gmod doesn't have suport for pre-cache for addons, which would help the loading problem.
This was surprisingly comfy! Well, at least the first one!
It was funny seeing you mistake a piece of roof for a person in Gleb when there was a person above it lmao
You should definitely do this again, your commentary and how you explore the maps are so entertaining.
I love these gmod vids
Love these Garry's Mod videos, entertaining stuff
I really really love your commentary on these sorts of things.
Can’t wait for more VR explorative stuff!
RP_Riverden is a really comfy map! It’s very well built and big, really good rendering tricks help it to have high frame rate on such a detailed and big map, almost everything you see can be opened and used.
oh hell yeah dude i was rewatching a lot of ur videos!! this ones gonna be great i just know it. love the way you narrate. i feel like youd be a good voice actor
you'd be surprised, I've seen abandoned buildings in the same or worse shape then that building in the beginning that have power still.
you have a good personality, you make videos interesting
Great video! Little tip is if you press "B" on your keyboard it zooms your sight in. Keep up the good work and gmod videos!
Keep up the VR dude, suits your content style well.
You could also probably explore sweps that might work with VR. A flashlight, and stuff with fully modeled viewmodels.
