A close family member got hurt bad at work.. ended up disabled. He needed something to do on his better days (one of those guys that never stopped before getting hurt) so he started fixing up stuff when he felt like it. He always charged damn near nothing. Parts cost and a couple bucks. It turned out to be a better business model than he planned for. Before long people were dropping off "projects" they didn't want to deal with. He'd fix it up and move it on to someone that needed it. Because he was a good guy, people dropped off progressively more and more stuff. Someone would buy a weedeater for 10 bucks and leave him two chainsaws or an old mower. Maybe they felt guilty or just appreciated what he was doing. He pretty much quit except for close friends as his health couldn't really handle it. To this day he occasionally goes outside and there will be a weedeater or mower just sitting in the driveway.
Moral of the story: sometimes people appreciate you JUST for not charging 95/hr + parts + hazmat disposal fees.
Anyways, my contribution for the algorithm.

I'm sorry to hear about your family member. It's VERY difficult seeing a loved one get hurt. On the upside, I'm happy to hear he found a little bit of light in that tunnel and people appreciated it. Something to be extremely proud of 🙂
Also, thanks for the contribution hahah! I'm trying to get that algorithm to be a buddy of mine!! 🤣🤣

Speaking of "The Algorithm" I had the word "Angry" in my custom thumbnail for the video. Apparently this was a no-no so they used a garbage randomly generated thumbnail. 🤦‍♂️ Sigh... I wondered why my click-on rate was so much lower! Would be nice if they'd notify you!
Anyway, rant over. Have a great weekend!

Good video buddy! I enjoy watching real world scenarios like this. You just never know what's gonna crop up when you take on a project like this. I know I've seen my fair share. It's all a learning experience though. Your upbeat attitude goes a long way too😁

That is a really old snow blower. I would guess it is from the 80s. That's a pretty long life span for a snow blower.

Picked one of these up today knowing jack about it. Found it has reverse! Nice!. also, from your video here, I have found that it used to have an electric starter. Bummer, but still, less complicated and more work when I start it. Oh well, I wont be having some of your troubles. But my carbs leaking. new ones 20 bucks though! But also, I can't give up on that old one. I have three 2 stroke snow blowers, 1 runs, don't like any of them however so I will be selling those. Not before this ones up and running however. I wonder what happened to the starter - betcha someone let that gas leak infiltrate it and then after taking it apart , tossed it away. i'm in 100 bucks so far, starts but does not stay running. pretty sure the 20 dollar carb is Chinese, cannot have that unless it;s completely necessary. weird, Mine looks to have incredibly little use, thinking this things malfunctions occurred from sitting around with no work to do for too many years. I wish that the starter was included so I could play with that. Grrr. ima go see part 2 if you made one. ( I dont have chains, seems like that might be handy ) at least shes pretty! LOL so far this is helpful.

Hey there! That's a bummer about the starter. You could be right, someone might have tossed it. That or they robbed it for another snowblower? Maybe you'll get lucky on eBay? Might be worth a shot?
If it won't stay running maybe you can just pop off the bowl and see if the needle and seat just need a cleaning? Just a thought! Either that or go with the inexpensive carburetor. I see lots of people going with the Hipa carbs on other shows. Could be worth it!

I feel ya bro. I taught myself to work on small engines a few years ago, and I take paying jobs from time to time. I took a 4 wheeler carb job recently. It had been sitting for a year, but I told the guy I would have it back to him in a day or two, only to find out that the carb was not serviceable. One thing led to another, and I ended up putting a carb, battery, solenoid, and starter on it. He is 63, and it belonged to his 10 year old daughter who has health issues. I put probably 20 hours into it altogether, and I only charged $45. I basically just covered my expenses. It feels nice to do something good.

I live the commitment to fixing the OEM valve. Tips for today you can purchase O-rings that are more fuel resistant- the green ones on Amazon. Also Blue Monster thread tape is fuel resistant. Great to have both in the shop. BTW I have had very bad results from those plastic shut offs.

Haha thank you! It turned into a vendetta!
I was disappointed in the plastic valves. I out one on the wood chipper and it leaked externally. Get what you pay for I guess.

@@TractorFella if you have a mig/flux core welder you can weld a nut onto the broken bolt and remove it with a socket wrench. I had to do that for a guy who broke off a bolt extractor after he did the same thing installing a new starter on his snow blower

I've seen that done before... Something I might have to try in the near future.
Funny how you saw this repair already!
