    I recently bought a Toro Powermax 1030 because I couldn't find an 828 anywhere in Chicago. That thing looks like it can handle a snow avalanche. According to the specifications, it weighs 300 lbs and it feels like it too when moving it when it's off. I haven't used it yet, but I'm hoping and praying for plenty of snow here this winter, not only to test it out but to also get my money worth out of it because it was very expensive.

      After a carb rebuild in the Cockshutt 540 and the Sport Nautique boat with the 351 engine, I haven't used any ethanol in anything with a carburetor. It's more money for the ethanol free gasoline, but well worth it! I think the local station we get from is 90 also. But I have seen some that is 89 and some that is 91.

    I just took delivery of a new Toro Power Max 826 OAE snowblower. The first thing I always do before starting the engine is to check the oil. Also, my engine surges badly when started and off and on when in use. I've had it back to the dealer for warranty service, but saw no improvement in the surging when I picked it up. I've never had a 4 cycle engine run like this. This is my first and last piece of Toro equipment that I plan to ever own.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  2 года назад

      Sorry to hear that. I've had nothing but positive experiences with my Toro Power Max 828 OAE machine.

    • @russellmaddock3492
      @russellmaddock3492 Год назад +1

      There is only one thing to make a small engine serge, and that is the carburetor. The engine is surging for lack of the right fuel air mixture. Your dealer should have either removed and checked for a defect or any partials in the carburetor that could cause an issue or replace it with a new one. I have had Toro snow blowers sense the early 80's with nothing but great performance. My latest one is a Toro Power Max HD 1232 that is a powerhouse of a snowblower. It takes all of 30 min to remove and clean a Toro carburetor. Even less to replace one. You should have insisted your dealer replace or fix the carburetor. The Toro Power Max HD machines are some of the best snow blowers on the market. Your problem could have occurred no matter what manufacture snow blower. Anything manmade can have a defect, that is what warranties are for. If your machine is not functioning as it should, then either demand it be fixed correctly or demand a refund or exchange for another machine, plain and simple.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  2 года назад +1

      Hello. I agree usually. And these snow blowers have the shutoff on the throttle - so it requires throttling down before shutting off. However, on my Toro zero turn, it actually has a sticker beside the throttle that says to shut off at full throttle. It's the first time I've ever seen that. Like you, I typically throttle any motor down before shutting off.

    i have the same snow blower as you i have only used it twice but both time it got clogged. the second time i sprayed the snow shoot but it still got clogged should I press down on the right hand handle first to get the auger going and then press down on the left hand the drive handle to get the snow blower to go forward would that be correct or does it matter which on you press first?

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  9 месяцев назад

      Definitely, I prefer to start the auger first, let it get up to speed, and then engage the drive to start moving the blower. I think that way works best for me.

    It would take me forever to get our drive done with that, it takes me about 2hours with our Ventrac and 6ft plow.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  4 года назад +2

      I wasn't sure how long it would take with the snow blower versus the four wheeler and plow. It took longer with the snow blower, but also did a cleaner job. Over time, our long driveway gets more and more narrow when plowing snow because the quad only has so much pushing power. The snow blower really throws the snow away from the driveway.

    I was hoping you could answer a question about the Throttle slide(that sliding adjustment that has a turtle and a rabbit on it). Once you have the snow blower running do you adjust the throttle at all? Or is there ever a time where the throttle slide should be in the middle or elsewhere??

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  3 года назад +1

      Great question. I've only ever used that throttle lever at both ends. All the way open for operation. All the way closed to shut down. I can't think of any reason to run at a medium throttle. Thanks for watching!

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  3 года назад

      I would think it should have the right handle lock feature. That's what allows you to remove your hand from the handle bar and adjust the quick-stick (like you say).

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  3 года назад

      That's not typical in my experience. When I put the speed in the slow speed, we're just barely moving. The speed adjustment works really well on mine. Is the linkage all in working order from the speed-control lever down to the transmission? I'd recommend reaching out to your Toro dealer and seeing what they suggest.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  Год назад +1

      There is not a neutral position in the speed selector. But neutral does occur naturally as long as you're not squeezing the "drive" handle. When you start the snow blower, you shouldn't be squeezing either handlebar squeeze trigger.

    I just bought the Toro PowerMax 1030 OHXE because I have a very long driveway (over 0.1 miles long or about 580 feet) and it has already snowed in one snowfall over 8 inches. I have noticed that the "quick stick" in three uses does not like to work if it is very cold (close to 0 Fahrenheit or -17 Celsius). It gets stuck and I have to stop, force the adjustment to the other side, and then continue. Anyone know how to get it to work when it is really cold out? Thank you!

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching, Sam! I've never had any issues with the QuickStick on my PowerMax 828 OAE. I wonder if it's due to the linkage freezing up or the moving joints up in the chute itself?

    • @Buc_Stops_Here
      @Buc_Stops_Here 3 года назад

      @@PurpleCollarLife Thank you for the quick reply. That is good to know. It is worse when there is build up on the chute so perhaps that is it. You mean you are not going to mention that not all power maxes have trigger less steering meaning they have no differential. So that means when you turn the unit you will be dragging the tires against the pavement.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  Год назад

      Actually, I find that the triggerless steering works great for us. I don't feel any dragging on the inside wheel when I make turns. But we're blowing snow on gravel, not pavement. Maybe on pavement it has a different feel.
