- Toro sent Taryl their newest 2-stage Power Max and told him to see what he thinks. So he did just that when a giant 12" snow dump hit Podunk! See how this thing works under a heavy load of snow as he digs his shop out from the blizzard of the year! Something like this might be up your alley if you get quite a bit of snow where you live. For more information visit your local Toro dealer or check them out online at www.toro.com

Crazy.... well whoever is stupid enough to stick ur hand in there after seeing the auger still spinnin should be suing their parents for failing them.
Then again, can u imagine a dad driving it in a garage thinking its disengaged and his child runs out and get caught in it!!!
Job one: install sheer bolts.
Where's everybody, the parking lot needs snowblowing. Slipper, Uncle Andy, Jurkinsteen, shop rag, even Junior is hidding.
When taryl was explaining the snowblower, and said he had a couple of nuts there, I thought he was talking about, slippers, jergenstien and uncle andy🤣 bring back slippers, he's been slippinng, also the only dip stick I know is jergenstien 🤣
He IS the dipstick tho - lol
Love the Channel Taryl. You are the man. I purchased the Toro 828 earlier this year and, assuming the 826 is constructed from the same design, there is a suspected manufacturer's defect with the friction rod that comes standard on the machine. This is the +/- 12" metal rod that attaches at the clutch cable plate and runs into the "transmission case" to engage the drive system. The rod on my machine snapped at the connection with the cable plate after about 10 uses. I identified the part so I could order a new one from Toro (Part No. 137-6157) and in the process of ordering the replacement, I was directed to a new part (Part No. 144-1620) which has apparently superseded the old part. The new lift rod was delivered with new mounting plates and now attaches via a small bolt at both connections as opposed to the previous "s-curve" rod connection that is just weaved into the connector plates. The newly-designed lift rod is substantially beefier than the original. This suggests to me that Toro is aware of this issue. I'd like to say that it was covered as a warranty issue, but Toro would have required me to take the machine into an authorized service center for that to be the case (none in my area). Takes all of 20 minutes to swap out the lift rod. Happy to report that the machine moves some serious snow when it is operable. Less than thrilled that I had to pay Toro $45 to get the new part sent to me when they have obviously re-designed this component and are clearly aware of the issue. I suspect newer units will come standard with the new lift rod. I purchased mine from Home Depot in Oct 2020. You can easily determine if you are purchasing a unit with the redesign, as the lift rod will be bolted onto the clutch plate at the rear of the machine. If the unit uses the s-connection you may experience the same problem that I did.
I like this guy, funny, and he knows the equipment before he even fires it up to do battle with the large piles of snow!!! I just bought a Toro 1030 , and I can't wait to try it out. This Toro snowblower is replacing a Home Depot " Yard Machine " snowblower that I purchased way back at the beginning of winter in 1996, and it ran great, and doesn't owe me anything. But I'm going to be doing the entire neighborhood, because I just enjoy removing the snow and making everything look neat and clean. Thank you for the good video, both entertaining and informative. 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻
PS - I'm sorry about this being so long, and rambling, but I've been unable to sleep for the past two days 😴 💤, and I'm getting a little whammy!!!! I'm getting up now, time to move snow, and even though it's still dark out, " I'VE GOT A VERY BRIGHT HEADLIGHT NOW "!!!!
Stay safe and well.
The best feature, Handle Bar Warmers! Lol.
a mug warmer to keep the coffee warm would be nice
I love my Toro PowerMax. They ARE monsters. Now I want more snow to go play with it. :) Thanks for the video. Much appreciate all your work.
Hey Taryl I like the updates Toro has done especially with the upgrade turning No Small levers with cable and bulky wheel drive units. The unit is also shortened for improved balance control. Several other items. Toro pricing isn’t bad. Excellent video tutorial as always. Yes it’s a keeper.
Excellent demonstration. Toro is great, mowers and snow blowers!
I haven't ever seen or needed a snowblower..but taryl done talked me into buying one..2 thumbs up..
Being from TX and having 2 commercial walk behind mowers that I use for my lawn care business I found this video interesting and entertaining...I'd love to operate that Toro in heavy snow...looks like fun!!
Damn you guys got a bunch of snow. So far we've gotten a few inches but it's still coming down. You guys stay warm! Be blessed!
My last one before we moved to Florida 3 years ago was an Ariens Platinum, I think 30 in. With a 389 cc Briggs polar force 16.5. That was a beast of a machine, which is what you need with 250+ inches a year. Hand warmers, zero turn (Ariens take on the differential). My buddy in Wisconsin has it now, still running strong. I've never had a Toro but this one looks like a good rig.
As an Australian, watching this snow blower working, I realise it is an essential piece of hardware in the colder states of America. I guess if it really gets icy you are stuck at home. Australians don't know a lot about snow blowers, maybe in Tasmania or up near the NSW and Victorian ski-fields.... Good video Taryl as always.... Dinner etc....
Wow, you guy's got a good dumping. I'll bet the snowmobilers are happy.
Great job of reviewing the Toro!
Nice review Ariens has had the trigger-less turning for years my 2014 1028 has it. It’s a great feature
THE ANTI-CLOGGING SYSTEM IS INGENIOUS!!
Right way you pointed out that extra cut out. What it does is sends some of the snow back into the auger to aerate it even more!! This makes the snow lighter so it Not only will it virtually stop clogging ( I've never seen any one of these clogged in any snow ) It makes the snow lighter so it can be thrown further, puts less pressure on the belts, gears, and engine..
Again ingenious!!
And the sheer pins is another ingenious thing.
I've experienced this first hand. I was moving along in my auger hit a car rim that was under the snow that I forgot was there. The machine stopped immediately. I undug the rim and said oh crap, backed up, I started The machine and I was on my way.
NO SHEER PINS TO BREAK!!
INGENIOUS, INGENIOUS!!
;)
I only live about 25 miles from the Airens HQ in Brillion Wi but have always owned Toro's. I have a 35 year old 824 at my house up north where I regularly blow a good foot or more and still runs great. My newer 10-24 similar to that one has been running smooth since the day I bought it 6 or so years ago. I also have a small 2 stroke paddle wheeler to do the finishing work/light snow jobs. That thing is probably 20 years old and still starts on the 2nd pull! Also own their lawnmowers and one lawn tractor!
Those old cylinder auger machines are cool. They are built like a tank and throw the snow a decent distance for having a short chute. I changed out the engine to a smaller 6.5 hp OHV and it did very well. The impeller bushing went out and tore through the shaft where it would have been prohibitive to fix.
I do exactly as you said. A 2 stage and a rubber paddle single stage are standard equipment at our place. Nice detailed review and test on that Toro.
Nice unit. Thanks for sharing, Taryl!
Awesome machine rite there! Thanks Taryl
I bought a 824oe this winter for home. I have 30 years commercial snow removal under my belt. I really like this machine. Very happy to see a good review from you. Thanks and keep putting up the great vids
What brand 2 stage snow blowers do most commercial snow removers use? I have heard it is Toro, in your years in the business, what machines did you use the most?
@@russellmaddock3492
@@russellmaddock3492 for two stage mostly jon deere and honda. for single stage toro. I see all brands being used. My advice is buy any name brand from a good local dealer that can provide immediate support if needed, any machine sitting waiting for service or parts is a waste.
@@arthurgilbert587 I agree with buying from a reputable dealer. I bought my Toro Power Max HD 1232 from the dealer I have bought all my outdoor power equipment from. They sell Honda, Cub Cadet and Toro in outdoor power equipment. Honda is out of the walk behind lawn mowers business as of 2023. Makes me wonder what else they may drop in not-too-distant future. I really like my Toro 1232. Lots of power and throws snow 57' plus in right conditions. The anti-clog impeller system is what sold me on the Toro. Thanks for your response. Have a blessed and safe winter.
I like this machine. A snow cab is a must on a long driveway.
Thanks for the detailed review. Helped me make my decision. Toro is what I’ll buy. Seems worth the price. 👍🏽👍🏽
I ALSO LIKE THE SIMPLICITY OF THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS ONE!!
they really did a good job revamping the 826.
If you notice they got rid of the chain that used to be in the older bottles, and that's in the 828 and the others I think it's because the 826 has been kind of redesigned a little bit..
The way it used to be is they made the automatic steering turning differential connected to another chain and that chain was connected to another gear that turned the friction disc.
Now they got rid of the chain and the extra gear made the differential gear much bigger as you can see how it sticks out of the transmission casing and is why they have to use a plastic cover now to make room for that bigger all-in-one gear. Instead of using the chain that big oversized gear is now turning the friction disk.. probably saves them money, less parts to break and grease. It's a win-win very smart.
Toro was always innovating trying to make things better not just doing the same old crap. Like Ariens does..
If we never innovated we have no new technology and none of the awesome things we have in this day and age.
Excellent for Toro.
And not to mention according to consumer reports and other expert snowblower tests, the 826 outperformed all the other snowblowers and so did Toro in general.
Toro was great they understand what matters and what doesn't..
You are absolutely right about having 2 snow blowers. Here in my state we used to get a couple good snow storms and in between just smaller storms the ones from 2 to 4 in. Back 2010 when we kept on getting hit by one large storm after another and in between smaller ones. That's when I decided to get a two stage snow blower. Even though my little two stroke was never intended to be used on snowfalls a foot or more higher I was able to make do. It was a pain in the butt every couple hours I would have to go out and clear everything. Fortunately I neighbor jumped in and was helping to keep their drywall and driveways clear. After doing all right that's when I went to a two-stroke. Unfortunately the one I bought I hate it and actually sold it during a snowstorm. I was lucky enough that my other neighbor just had gotten a big snowblower from his brother who moved down south into the Caribbean somewhere.
Even though he takes care of the snow I still want my own two stage snow blower again. I watch your shootout between there Toro and the Aaron and I wasn't impressed by either one of those. I really like what I saw in your video here. That snow blower in the video actually did what it is supposed to do and make your life easier. I really would like to see if you end up putting that weight on the front end and how it works out for you.
After I'm done leaving this comment I'm going to shoot over to the Toro web page and see if this is something I have to order or if it's in stock someplace around me. I enjoyed looking at the attachments that you showed pictures of.
Again another great video I really look forward to watching more.
I guess if you had a really big snow blower then you'd want maybe a little slow blower to go along with it. But the 826 is not a really big snowblower. It's easy to maneuver like a shopping cart so even if you had 4 in of snow I would still use it. You could put it in sixth gear and get right through it.
Those little portable battery powered shovels are almost useless in anything over 3 in. They're not that wide something 4 in and below you can actually buy the pro MANPLOW with the easy edge. You could easily push the snow with that. AND IT'S 32 IN WIDE AND IT WOULD BE FASTER THEN USING ONE OF THOSE LITTLE POWER SHOVELS!!
You also got those $300 $400 battery powered little snow blowers that are single stages. When you get over 6 in of snow with them and it's kind of heavy you have to back up and plow into it back up and plow into it You're basically doing close grip push-ups It's way too much work.
I think the 826, the size of it, the weight of it, the automatic steering turning like a shopping cart, and everything else that it has with the ingenious things that Toro does with the no shear pins quick stick, anti-clogging system, the hand warmers WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED.. again two or three inches of snow just grab a good snow plow shovel be done in minutes..
The Toro 826 with that 252cc engine is a weapon in the snow clearing arsenal.. The anti-clog system works well and having no shear bolts the auger drive held up so far so good ingested 2 extension cord , couple rocks and lots of ice same ice that napped my neighbours Honda blower shear bolt twice..
Toro engines are built by the Loncin corporation in Chongqing, China. These engines meet or exceed all of Toro's requirements for power, torque, reliability, fuel consumption, ease of starting and sound level. The Toro Dealership close to me tell me the Toro branded engines are excellent engines. I have a Toro Power Max HD 1232 and it starts no matter how cold with the pull cord usually on the first pull. Always remember to open the fuel valve before priming the carburetor 3 or 4 times. The quick stick shoot control is the best in the industry. Toro also has the no clog impeller system that works extremely well no matter how wet and heavy the snow is. If looking for snow blowers that can handle any kind of snow condition without breaking the bank, Toro and Ariens are hard to beat. Thanks, Taryl for your excellent review of the Toro Power Max 826. Love your videos and small engine expertise.
Great review Taryl. I have a Toro Power Max HD 1232 and love it. Plenty of power to move any kind of snow and has great traction. Blows snow 57 plus feet in the right kind of conditions. Toro's patented anti clog system really works well, and the quick stick is an amazing peace of engineering. All in all, I think Toro is leading the pack in innovation and ability to move snow in any kind of condition. Like any machine, regular maintenance is the key to longevity and a good running machine. And if you can find it in your area, use ethanol free fuel. I also use Sea Foam year-round in all my outdoor power equipment. Really helps keep carburetors clean and running smoothly. If possible, keep your snow blower in a building or at least cover and protect it from the elements. Especially during the off season. Leaving any kind of outdoor power equipment unprotected in the elements makes for a very bad investment. Really enjoy your videos, Taryl. Thanks for the review.
Like lots of us did in the olden days (1981) we ran mowers in summer and blowers in winter. But it just so nice to keep mowing (Florida). Still, I did love running those machines at midnight to keep up.
I had one I bought used. It was a 1998 year model. I sold it in 2018 when I retired and moved to Florida. Only replacing shear pins when needed and yearly maintenance. 750 used, sold it for 250. Quite the machine.
Awesome snow blower taryl thanks for the video
I had both Jacobsen and AMF snowblowers.Toro seemed the longest lasting. I own 2 of them.
i will say one thing taryl , you are so lucky to have snow like that , where i live in uk , we don't get snow , maybe a sprinkle , but to have snow like you got / get , would be amazing , keep up the good videos ,
The novelty wouldn't last long.
@@heyinway no , but just to have it for a short time would be great , i love the look of snow , all we get here is just a little snow dust that blows in on the wind , which usually freezes and turns to ice straight away , causing ice rinks on the roads and pavements , watching little old ladys skate down over the hills can be quite funny i suppose ,
Hey taryl good morning that Toro's a keeper for sure very good video stay safe and keep on blowing that snow and there's your chitlens
I love my two stage and single stage. Both are Toro. I have the 826 oxe and my single stage is the 3650 two stroke. I use Benol racing oil for my 50:1 mix with grape scented gas perfume and all my neighbors love how the two stroke exhaust smells. Both machines are beasts. The 826 does have the trigger steer tranny. I pull both and free wheel it. It's easier. And it throws snow soooo far with that rooster tail effect. My 826 has the black molded chute instead of metal.
That is a nice machine! Toro did a fine job.
Woooooo! Just when I needed me some dinner!!!
I wound up buying a toro 12/32 and I really like it.. good machine.. wish it had heated grips but other then that I'm satisfied..

Taryl you have made me a toro man, we dont have snow here but, lord willing money provides i want a toro my ride z turn bad, be great for my health issues man thanks for sharing the toro stuff
Love your channel brother ,very informative!
I'm using an over 30 year old John Deere 826. It's heavy metal and most parts are still available. When it dies (if) then maybe a Toro. 🙂. The 8hp 26 inch combo is great for the Midwest winters here.
I'd look at Ariens also, good machines.
Thank you!
That little 8hp sings a sweet song
Easily one of the most thorough reviews ,
If you have wet snow, spray the chute and auger with some cheap cooking spray. Works really well. And there's your dinner!
Car spray wax works well too
Ceramic paint coating is more of maintenance free solution. I bought some Tuttle Wax Ceramic coating at Walmart for $14
@@BeingMe23 my dirt cheap eagle one nano-wax usually gets through a season here in Iowa. Maybe in the snowier parts of the USA, ceramic would be a better option. I’m on the same bottle i got 5-6 years ago for 5 bucks. 😂
@@AverageJoeHotRodShow Well true anything that bonds well to the paint works.
Silicone spray works well too.
Nice review, like the Toro!
What a beast 👌 Almost wished it snowed here now 😅
I miss having to deal with snow.... what am I saying no I don't but it's fun to watch from south Carolina. Thanks taryl dactal
chains might have helped . i found after many years that when you adjust the skids for gravel , they like to climb . the shoot weight looks like a fantastic way to solve that problem . great vid , thanks taryl
He had the blower in too high a gear for the thickness of the snow. The wheels were spinning not because of a lack of traction, so much as due to the fact that the blower's ability to clear the snow was maxed out and it couldn't move at the speed he was attempting to drive it. When you are taking full cuts through snow that thick and heavy you shouldn't be using anything higher than first gear.
I like that Taryl head camera.
Spray silicon on the inside of the chute and the augers before you start. Keeps the snow from sticking/clogging.
I have the same snowblower and i'm seeing some common issues being reported by others: 1) IT'S TOO DAMN FAST IN 1ST - You can adjust it where the shifter meets the control rod to the transmission but it gets very sensitive and too much and 1st gear becomes reverse. 2) There's a ~1" welding "gap" where the bucket meets the chassis of the snowblower. It looks like it's by design but it seems odd and some have claimed that this is indication of fitment problem that led to the auger bearing seizing (i'm not seeing any stiffening of the bearing but i've only run it ~7hrs or so). Works great for me.
yea it is way too fast in 1st.
@@M.TTT. Exactly what the guy said You just going to move the friction disc to a different point to make first gear slower but it will make all the gears change.
It will make first gear slower all the gear is going forward slower which is fine because they're already really fast.
And turn it will make reverse gears quicker which is excellent.. backing up you're not snow blowing I want to back up quickly.
You just take that connecting rod to the shifter there's a little piece on top you can turn I think you turn it clockwise a couple of turns and that's it link it back up and it's fixed.
I mean just look at Taryl He likes to go fast but that's why he has a lot of leftovers on the sides. Everybody has their preference.
That's why things are adjustable
;)
Awww men looks good that snow,,never seen snow, hope see snow soon .
"No shear bolts... It'll bog the engine..." Ok, so it just shears the flywheel key instead XD
flywheel would be fine.. extreme situation it slips the belt or bogs the engine and in most cases a good ice chunk chops most snow blower shear pins anyway the Toro with the same ice chunks u hear the engine bog and feel the vibration either it clears on its own or you clear it and back to work..
You should of had Uncle Andy test the snowblower in 6th gear
LMAO. Dragging his sorry butt down the driveway.
Is there a seventh gear? I’d need more

Then I think I got a lemon. Brand new and tried starting (pull cord & electric starter) it today & got nothing. Oil level good & put in a fresh 32 oz can of TruFuel, too.

If you work on small engines prolly not, then fixit! Or take it to taryl!! Or myself if he's busy..
A lemon is something that keeps breaking. Yours sounds like it never ran categorized as just plain broken. Lol
Up in Northern Minnesota we add flat bars to the Auger Box sides that extend the height so as to cut down the towering snow so it feeds into the auger. Otherwise the machine would undercut the snow bank when snow lowing in very deep snow.

It's so satisfying watching it throw snow. My buddy is selling one for 500obo
Thanks Taryl! My mind is made up.
Funny that you mentioned one needs two snow blowers. I ordered a corded snow blower strictly for doing the patio. I got tired of shoveling the patio. It didn't get here yet and it is snowing like crazy at this very minute.
I have three, technically. my new Cub Cadet, an old Gilson single stage refitted with a Honda mower engine from the old crappy Briggs and a little power shovel attachment for my Echo PAS-2620 power head.
Looks like the oil drain spout will run all over the wheel? Maybe a mess
There was a recall on this unit in Canada and the USA for units made in Mexico between November 2020 and January 2021. It was a faulty rollpin in the handle assembly that would cause the blower housing to stay engaged.
More reviews plz on lawn and snow equipment. Plz. This was a really good review.
That's really cool my friend
They are so right with the SHEAR BOLTS.
Anyone wants to know if it works I'll be making a video soon but for now. I was snow blowing a couple weeks ago late February storm we had over here in New England.
I didn't realize I had a rim my wife's car rim under the snow. It hit it!! BANG!! The machine stopped immediately.. I remove the rim. Start of the machine backup. Worked perfectly. No shear bolts, no tools BRILLIANT!!
And no it did not try to keep going and wear out the belts like people are trying to say.
It even will do this if you have heavy ice or icy snow that you're blowing It's really intuitive..
Toro's really good with staying ahead of the technology and always trying different things to make things better..
As for the anti-clogging system AGAIN BRILLIANT. I've done wet snow, heavy snow, sticky snow. Yeah some snow gets stuck behind the impeller. But nothing ever gets clogged never once.
I really don't know of anyone that had a Toro snowblower with this system in it clog and they had to use that unclogging tool that comes with it.
Again brilliant!!!
I have three snow blowers. The Hank the Beast (Ariens 11.5 hp dual pully mod), the Hulk Mean Machine (rescue as a back up) and my original Toro Snow Commander AKA Gutless Wonder that always works. All are pushing 20 years old.
Nice, I have a really old Ariens my dad bought way back when, 32 in, put a brand new 10 horse on it before this season, tire chains, modded the impeller and it works great for my house, we get a LOT of snow. I got a Craftsman 45 in with dual wheels at a scratch and dent sale online a few years back, modded impeller, delrin shoes are awesome for customers with really long driveways that don't like them plowed. Wealthy people are nitpicky but the money's worth it. What does the dual pulley mod do?
@@jimmartin7881 The kit allows two belts to drive the auger. Throws better and less belt wear, because two belts carry the load. There are videos on it. Look for Ariens dual or double belt modification kit. I have had it for three years on the Beast and so far am very happy with how well it works.

Looks like their engineering department learned from mistakes and fixed them. Wow, what a concept.
I disagree. If they learned their lesson, they would have produced a machine that would rival a Honda.
I inherited a Toro snowblower from my dad after he died. It doesn't have a differential drive and is a bear to turn around, even in the snow. Also, I bought an Ariens snowblower before that and they didn't think to put anti-seize on the axles.
Rightly so. But inovations like these push the product towards more reliability and convenience for the consumer.

Nice review. Chicago winters pretty much dictate a two-machine approach. We'll get a wet slushy mess followed by a temperature plunge, so I need a slush machine most often. The humble little Toro Powerlite -- 98cc two-stroke direct drive single-stage -- handles slush better than anything else I've ever used, and it gets about 80% of the run time. For heavier stuff I use a Honda HS621 that's only about 24 years old. If it doesn't outlive me, I might treat myself to another Honda. So far I've had no use for a two-stage unit.
The bigger Honda's blower seems to be under powered especially the Hydrostatic drive units that eg. GX 200 is good for ur size machine but too weak for the bigger ones the 240/270GX would really make a difference
I wished that it snowed a lot more here in east TN so i could buy that!! It looks like a blast to play with lol

Taryl , an old Sourdough trick is to take little 1/4" self tapping screws about 1/4-3/8" long and screw them into the tire treads. That will give you a bit better traction on ice..like studs on car tires. otherwise a set of chains
Thanks for the video
