I got mine for $450 in the summer time. Tool only. I already have a mower and leaf blower and I use a 7.5 and a 5 on this snowblower. I do 2 three garage driveways and both neighbors long sidewalks. Then I charge, I can’t imagine if I had two 7.5s. Best way to snowblower is to start in the middle and go in a circle so you rarely move the shoot. Great review my man
I just bought the Ego two stage. In time for the first snow here in se Nh. I think it worked very well, but the batteries didn't last the whole job. Not a huge problem. I also have the Ego lawnmower. I can get 1 extra battery and always have a set charged and ready. This was also a first use learning the best way to do the driveway will make it last longer. A couple clogs but the snow wasn't letting go of a shovel either. I have a medium size driveway with a pretty steep hill. It is going to be a learning curve. But a life saver for this storm. 4.5/5 stars (I don't give 5s).
I purchased the EGO lawn mower when it first came out and upgraded to the self propelled version two years ago. I have the blower too. I purchased the snowblower when they first came out also. Never knew about the two stage version. Your video is so compelling it makes me want to go out to buy it! I certainly have enough batteries to keep a set charged while I run the unit! Most comprehensive review! Even explaining all the control and breakdown for storage helps a consumer feel comfortable making the investment! I agree with most responders… EGO needs to hire you or at least compensate you for helping to sell their product!
for the ground clearance, use a few quarters. rest them under either side of the blade closer to the shoes. then loosen the shoes til they hit the floor then tighten them up
Great Review. I bought this last month and used it once so far after the bad storm in December. It’s loud but not anywhere near as loud as a gas snow blower. My family couldn’t hear it in the house. There’s a higher pitch that’s a little annoying but overall very tolerable. I’m a woman and this was my first time using a snowblower and found this very easy to assemble and to use. I quickly learned to operate all the options after the first faceful of snow and ice from the wind. 😂.
Ah the wind-blown snow in the face! Man! That can really sting when cold enough, makes my forehead go numb and like a headache! That's why some gas blower's have an entire polythene canopy with roof and I thought how that just looks a bit "pants". That was until I was out there and the wind was gusting and the snow blowing at me constantly, then I was wishing for the canopy.
The fact that it does not manage the speed downhill was something I hadn't heard before. Thank you for mentioning this! I have a steep driveway and I would not want to have to hold it back / prevent it from running away on me.
I would have thought that the only time it freewheels is when not in drive mode? As long as it is in drive and set to its slowest setting; 0.45mps? Then that may curb the run away effect if the motor has some drive friction that restricts it speeding up, but I'm just surmising here. If that hills use is true, then it should come with a bike style, cable to hub, stepped hand brake stay. Someone should write to E-GO. You could always sit on it and slide down the slope and then drive it back up! 😅😂
What about when the plow comes by and throws a bunch snow chunder at the bottom of the driveway, how does it handle the thicker heavy snow? I have basically the same driveway of you or your neighbor, full three car garage and I can fit 4 cars across all the way down (doesn't taper off like my neighbors) but it's a regular driveway length like yours. I just don't want to fight the bottom of the driveway if the plow fills 2' feet high and 4-5ft wide band of snow at the bottom. troy bilt does fine but it's slow going albeit it's pos so any 2-stage not troybilt would probably be an upgrade. I do like that potentially my wife and teenage kids probably could operate the EGO with minimal supervision vs gas.
@@petersonfamily6223 yeah I've noticed the same... after spending like 1.7k for all electric, do you need to spend another 800-1000 in batteries to get 5" cleared plus the heavier/deeper bottom.. just doesn't make sense if it clears a big space easily but can't handle the thick stuff over and over because I can shovel my driveway but the bottom can take forever.
Pick my new EGO two stage this past weekend. It's an upgrade from an older EGO one stage. My long 8˚ driveway starting kicking my butt. Two stage it is!!
Great video...I'm so anti-electric anything but knew my 15-year-old John Deer was on its last legs...and because of THIS video...I'll buy this machine. Thanks. Great Job of a review.
I live in Ct and I have an average driveway. My EGO two stage has been awesome. It runs for about 30 mins on two 7.5 amp batteries. I have other EGO products so I have 4 batteries. These products are geared toward smaller sized driveways. If you have a large driveway then you will need more battery range. I have to change out batteries near the end of clearing my driveway. My driveway is about 35 feet long and two cars wide. In Ct the snow is almost always wet and heavy so the higher auger speeds will be what you will have to use.
This was a good review very detailed. I bought mine last year and unfortunately it snowed all of 2 inches all winter in the Northeast so I haven't had an opportunity to put it through its paces. I will agree it should be the last Ego tool you buy to the point about the batteries. Only paying $800 was much easier than if I had to start with buying an additional $600 worth of batteries that I'm only using for snow. I now have 3 batteries and they def come in handy more in the spring and summer months between all the other Ego tools I have acquired since getting the mower. Of the two hours I used the blower it was pretty impressive. the 50' throw range is no lie its super powerful. I did have a concern with run time and would caution only using slower speeds unless its needed to extend the runtime, otherwise the batteries will drain pretty fast. I felt like the first battery drained faster than the second as far as the lights indicated but that may have been due to not having the batteries 100 percent topped off.
Another thing I wanted to add is that for any snow under an inch I just use the ego snow blower. You will be surprised how well that does and how fast it takes care of your place and multiple others on one charge and one battery.
just bought one of these. great review thanks so much. love mine. i have all the mowers, self propelled and zero turn. leaf blower and weed eater. self power load model. love them all.
@@waltsreviews90 i'm thinking weed eater with just the motor. get chain saw saw attachment and shrub trimmer, snow sweeper. then the actual chain saw. always buy with battery and chargers so i have plenty of power. lol
Thank you so much for this excellent demo and review.Very clear on everything.yoi sold me.I have the single stage ego now but I think Im going yo buy the two stage.the only thing that scares me is can I handle it Im 77 and weigh 150.(male).thanks again.
Thanks for an excellent review. Your warning that the unit will free-wheel down a slope was invaluable and, for me, a deal breaker. The noise level was surprising and the machine looks rather frail overall. The shear pin problem was pretty much a non-event as I've had exactly the same experience with both my old 2-stage gassers. As much as I'd like to get away from having a gas-powered machine, this unit won't do the job for me. I'm rather glad that I don't even have to get to the point of deciding on the basis of cost.
Can confirm that blowing snow at midnight with an electric snowblower is perfectly viable. One neighbor was really confused when I moved my snow because mine was done before they woke up. Never stirred the wife, and local law enforcement drove by while I was doing it and simply didn't care. They're great if you have neighbors.
Fantastic review and definitely learned a few pointers from you. Just picked mine up today ... been waiting for one for a few years now because i also am in the EGO system (mower, blower, trimmer etc) so i have the batteries already. Problem i had was finding the tool-only option available locally - until today :). Big storm hitting North East tomorrow so looking forward to testing it out coming from my Stage 1 (first generation EGO Snowblower) which I am not getting rid of :)
You may check into your local regulations but in most places it’s illegal to remove snow from your property onto the right of way… I know this is true in all of Colorado. Also for broken shear pin removal, the new pin can be used to push the old one out. Buy a few before you need them 😊
Great advice! I have a bag of pins too and yes I have pebbles and yes I broke some pins and no they don't always shear through quick enough and I suspect I've stripped the tips of the auger gear as the engagement take-up sound changed.
I had a Sears Crafstman 27 inch 5hp (Tecumseh) two stage snowblower for 30 years. I lived in Winnipeg, then Thunder Bay, Ontario (Northwest shore of Lake Superior). Needless to say, lots of snow and very cold. I used it to clear feet of snow in 0C to -40C weather too many times to count. I changed the oil less than ten times in that period, never changed the spark plug once, never drained the gas in the summer. It never failed to start once (it did have an electric starter I used when it was really cold.) I don't think a battery snowblower could handle those conditions. Especially the chunky four foot high windrow the plow leaves at the end of the driveway. Maybe I'm wrong about battery, but i never had any trouble with gas powered. Just fill it with winter blend gasoline (most gas stations switch to winter after October most places - don't use the leftover summer gas bought for your lawnmower).
Thank you for sharing this! I'm looking to buy "babies first snowblower" :D this year and I'm already invested in the Ego ecosystem with the mower, trimmer, and of course, chainsaw! :) My biggest fear is running out of juice. It's easier to have a gas can but there are also so many cons to the gas systems. I think I'll give this blower a try. I just realized my two batteries are only 5Ah, so I guess I'm buying the kit with the 10Ah batteries, that's going to hurt my case to my wife.
Excellent review. Im getting tired of gas and this might be a great option. Is it heavy? I have a truck with no ramps so would i be able to lift it on my own into the bed? Thanks!
I don't get out our snowblower out until we get at least 6 inches of snow, less than that I shovel. When I blow snow it is usually over a foot and as high as the catcher. Our area is sloped and multiple times the size of the driveway in this video. I just don't see this snowblower being able to handle snow that deep or do a decent sized area without recharging. But not having to deal with gas and quiet would be nice.
I sheered a pin on my airens snowblower and didn't notice for a while until I had issues on a heavy snow with snow piling up and not moving the augers. Not sure how I broke it. All that to say, it can be pretty easy to sheer on other brands as well.
One thing I found very interesting is how it "free wheels". So does that mean that even if you were in the slowest forward gear, and going down hill, it will still want to run away from you? I have a very steep driveway...
Nice I didn't know that the wheels free spin. I really like that I'm to lazy or lack of time to throw a blower in reverse so I pull my snow blower back every time. The way my driveway is laid out I have to push the snow to only one side so I can't blow it to the left or right.
Have you noticed if the scraper bar on the EGO is slightly bent - either bending downwards or upwards? Mine has a slight bend upwards. Is this common? Thanks!
I bought the 2800 in November, replacing Ariens ST824. I love everything about it - but I think the shear pins are too light, perhaps because the parts they are protecting are not robust enough.
Similar experiences all round. I actually broke both shear pins on my first use and I had a horrible time getting the remaining pins out to replace them in the cold. Also likewise it took a few uses before I got a good pattern for blowing my snow so I wasn't redoing as much work and could handle the controls. It is very hard to not overthrow the snow given the torque behind the second stage. I too prefer the times when I don't have to use the propulsion. I almost wish I'd bought the cheaper new belt propelled EGO blower, but I've had 2 snowfalls deep enough to appreciate the big capacity. My only complaint is that the auger and propulsion levers move too freely. Unlike yourself I've got a belly in front of me and leaning forward to push it a little usually results in both being on full until I notice.
Maybe? I bought 3 more pair that day and haven't used one yet. I didn't have much experience with snowblowers and the ancient one I had some years back I would have never tried to use at the spot where I blew the pins. It was an area exactly 24" wide so I was actually short about 1 inch I guess and it caught on some plastic edging. I think it's just newbie issues.
Hi Walt, good review. I plan to purchase this real soon like possibly later but I am torn if I should get the tool only or the one with the batteries. I have a 12 amp and a 7.5 amp and not sure if this will work with those two plugged in. Can you confirm if they will?
I have several older Craftsman and MTD snowblowers that are 2 stage. On mine, the right side axle where the pin goes through to hold the wheel on, there are 2 holes. Push the wheel back and use second hole to pin and both wheels engage but it is more difficult to maneuver but more power. Use outer hole and it is much easier to turn. The deeper heavier snow I move it to engage both wheels and go slower to let machine do all the work.
The main reason why small rocks jam up the auger is because it’s serrated. I use smooth edge augers that have never jammed on anything. Unless I sucked up a newspaper that the idiots like to throw right in the middle of deep snow instead of using the delivery box next to the mailbox.
If you adjust the drag shoes correctly you will not pickup rocks this is a requirement on all snow blowers as even gas models get a lot of damage if not correctly setup. So a graveled drive can be done with this snow blower without any issues so please read the manual and adjust the settings to meet your requirements.
bought one of these near the end of the season. Had 2 storms, both with wet heavy snow. Broke a shear pin in both uses and did not hit anything while blowing. It looks like the wet heavy snow packs in between the auger and the gear box and jams the auger which leads to the shear pin breaking. Anyone else see this ?
FYI, your shear pin was just doing it's job. It is designed to be an easily replaceable weak link that will fail so that other major damage doesn't take place.
Recently bought the 80v Greenworks one, and it looks like the Ego is built very similar. Looking forward to the next snow storm to use it. I tried it out on existing snow in the yard and it goes really well.
Surprised it continued working after hitting rocks. Mine was unusable after the first rock I hit on the first use of a brand new blower. The status light would blink orange. Ego said hitting a rock is accidental and not covered under the warranty. I worked through the store I bought it from and eventually Ego exchanged it.
I have one of those It worked well until that plastic shovel on top came off in a snow bank I was blowing and was eaten by the blower It is now January and it has been in the repair shop since September and still can’t get the parts to repair it
I’m having trouble with warranty service with this company. The self propel system has failed after 1 season and tech support is dragging their feet. I uploaded videos showing the problem a week ago and they tell me that it has “been elevated” to another department because there is no local service near where I live. They say I may need to repair it myself with parts but they can’t tell me for another week. It’s the middle of the winter and their machine is worth no more than a lump of junk metal right now. They are difficult to contact and slow on service, not good.
Hands down, the most comprehensive review of this machine on the internet, so far!

Thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like the shear pins go pretty easy.
Where do you get the shear pins, is it a specific size for that machine?
Awesome video, thanks 🙏
Thank you!
So tempted! Nice S. Does the drive spin both wheels? My gas only does one wheel and that sucks.
Very good review. Ego should send you a free battery.
Did you purchase that unit or where you supplied one by Ego for a review?
Looking to
Buy one. Very useful though. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Useful video. Thank you sir.
If you use only one battery, it will be prone to overheat. I would suggest to use eco mode if you are doing so.
Dude how did you get a newer home with that sick garage?
Do you find it throws the snow too far?
Great review
The main reason why small rocks jam up the auger is because it’s serrated. I use smooth edge augers that have never jammed on anything. Unless I sucked up a newspaper that the idiots like to throw right in the middle of deep snow instead of using the delivery box next to the mailbox.
hi warranty covergae is valide whne you hit a rock and damage the machine( the pin didn't break )
Makes sense why Amazon recommends buying extra shear pins with it lol
P.S. It kinda reminds me of the sound of a handheld electric circular saw
I really like the review
very helpful. thank you
If you adjust the drag shoes correctly you will not pickup rocks this is a requirement on all snow blowers as even gas models get a lot of damage if not correctly setup.
Great job 👍🏼
Update this year: The Ego 24 inch 2 stage w/ 2 10ah batteries is going for $1,300 at Lowes.
No issues with gas if you use TruFuel 4 stroke gas, no stabilizer needed, no clogged throttle bodies etc.
Wow, thanks for sharing, I really need to pay attention to where I am going and try to avoid the rocks.
What if it breaks again? Wonder what the cost to fix it is?
excellent video. thank you
Glad you liked it!
My second year with it. It just broke. The impeller is just stuck.
I just purchased the Ego 28” snowblower. I have to say the 2 green plastic handles are very very weak and flimsy. It is prone to break!
Dude, you're blowing all of your snow into the street? I think it's common knowledge that you don't do that.
Not just common knowledge, where in from it’s a $200 ticket too
Yes you can, they’re plowing it back into your driveway so you don’t want that on your lawn.
That's a big no no here where i live.
Can’t do it my town.
I have one of those
It worked well until that plastic shovel on top came off in a snow bank I was blowing and was eaten by the blower
It is now January and it has been in the repair shop since September and still can’t get the parts to repair it
Bummer I am sorry to hear that.
How about a video with more than 1" of snow
For gas, use gas stabilizer, but at the end of the season, run it dry.
How mutch fossil metals are in that battery!+
One more thing. You can blow your snow into the street?
I’m having trouble with warranty service with this company. The self propel system has failed after 1 season and tech support is dragging their feet. I uploaded videos showing the problem a week ago and they tell me that it has “been elevated” to another department because there is no local service near where I live. They say I may need to repair it myself with parts but they can’t tell me for another week. It’s the middle of the winter and their machine is worth no more than a lump of junk metal right now. They are difficult to contact and slow on service, not good.
is that a Tesla in the garage?
FYI - It is illegal to throw snow into the road. The snow is more inclined to ice up after someone drives over it and packs it down.
Ummmmmmm how big is the garage? 😂
👍👍👍👍👍
