    I live in Canada and thus far have an EGO lawnmower, but haven't yet had the opportunity to use it. We are currently getting hammered with a big snow storm in the middle of April. I have a Honda 2 stage snowblower with tracks, but I would like a single stage snowblower for a lot of the light snows that we might get. The city scrapes our streets but they clean the end of everyone's driveway with a front end loader because it's 3 feet of hard packed ice chunks that would defeat most snowblowers.

      Yeah, to get a 2-stage Ego I had to jump into a local ACE hardware (quickly) store's online products that said they had them in stock, and bingo, I lucked out, early bird and all that hogwash. But yeah, they went rather fast, the old supply chain ain't what it used to be, by golly, and all that hogwash too. (Sorry, just channeling Gabby Hays as peeps in their 70s do)

    Do I love my ego single stage? Hell YES!! But besides all the obvious reasons, one HUGE reason is because of the lack of gas, no pull start etc.. and the relative lighter weight, my wife and daughter actually enjoy doing the driveway!! IT"S AWESOME LOL

    Thanks for what seems like a very honest review. Hoping you can answer my question: Everyone talks about the metal blades on this unit (which is a must for me). However, what is the intake/housing made of? It looks like black and green painted metal but I can't tell for sure and no review (or EGO's bedsite) make any mention of it. The grey looks like plastic. Personally, I req a metal intake/housing around the blade as when the plow comes, they scrape up all the thick ice built up on the roads and cold plastic would likely crack or shatter. I had a Snow Joe iON8024 (dual-stage, 80V)for the last 2 and a half years; it never worked properly, constantly stopping in only a few inches of snow (1st unit was DOA, replaced under warranty) and I found the batteries unreliable. It finally stopped working altogether in January and Snow Joe finally decided they are refunding the unit so I will need to buy something else. I don't specifically need a 2 stage and this seems like a good compromise of size, power and capability. I live in Manitoba, Canada and we often get snowfalls that are 4-6 inches. We got over 5 feet of total snowfall this year. My driveway is approx 22 x 50 feet and because of the proximity of my neighbours' driveways I need to be able to throw the snow on the street and clear the road in front of my driveway. Thanks. Sorry for the long comment.

    • @ohiorectec6055
      @ohiorectec6055  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching !!!! The lower black park is metal. The inside of the scoop beyond that is a polyethylene type plastic. I would recommend you look at the 2-stage version based on The amount of snowfall you get in your region.

    • @bazin-c
      @bazin-c 2 года назад

      @@ohiorectec6055 thanks for the prompt reply and the recommendation! I'm not sure the green plastic inside would survive the ice chunks that the plows leave behind. The EGO 2 stage does look like it could handle anything.

    I got the one with the (2) 5 ah batteries but it also comes with the dual charger which is like 200 alone and then the batteries are another easy 250, so u figure ur paying about 400 for most the smaller size units and investing in the batteries.
    Down the road, you can add tools for way cheaper than needing to buy the batteries which is awesome.

      If like me a person happens to be somewhere north of 70 yrs. Absolutely, 2-stage is where it's at. If I was 45-50 when we start thinking that not everything will be the same in the future, well, I may have even opted out for the self-propelled 2-stagers, but back in that day, EVs were not so much of a thought for the consuming masses. My last 2-stagers were ICE models, never again if I can help it or live so long. I even have used the Ego self-propelled mower for years now, it's a goodie.

    Having had a 50+ year old gas powered single stage snow blower with a steel augur and for the last 18 years a gas powered 2 stage Toro I have to say that looks pretty good. You're right about gas powered snow blowers,. Even here on Long Island where we get a good amount of snow a blower sits for 99.99 % of the year. The problem is we might get five inches one year and ninety inches the next. Both are rare, but have happened. I'm looking at the EGO 2 stage, battery powered snow blower for my eighty foot driveway, but I'll keep the gas powered one for a couple of years as well just in case.

    You might try this, after talking to several people (mainly from ace hardware) who own ego snowblowers, the biggest cause for the batteries dying so quick is because everyone runs them at 'turbo' speed. Maybe set the speed/throttle about medium or so (like gas snow blowers) and the batteries will last quite awhile

    Recommend getting their riding lawn mower, its a 42 inch mower zero turn that runs on these 10 amp hour battery’s, its pretty slick, I have their self propelled lawn mower, their weed wicker, and the 530 cam leaf blower, ill be purchasing g the 10 amp hour battery later this year, oh and I have their small 150 watt inverter, but their is a 2,000 watt one they make but it goes up to 3,000 surge watts, its really cool.their small inverters, the 150 watt one is pretty cool, its saved us in some power outages, it powered a small osculating fan, and even powered one of those portable lights that sits in the corners with the he different color plastic light colors. I do recommend any of their tools, they even have the multi tool attachments kit, that’s cool.

      Daniel D, I realize you weren't asking me but in many hours of research trying to decide between this snowblower or the 2-stage blower, I've seen your question a few times. The response I've seen from [alleged] EGO Power+ reps was "Yes, it will work on just one battery but runtime will be reduced." Some even went on to say that you can use 2 different "sizes" (capacities) of batteries, i.e. combine one 7.5 amp-hour battery with a 2.5 amp-hour battery or whatever. Hope this helps.

      Compared to several of my neighbor’s single gas blowers it’s absolutely on par with throwing distance. This was a wet heavy snow under the powder and it never clogged and solidly threw snow 30ft. See the part in the street. My neighbor had to restart his several times when it stalled lol. What does limit distance it is the chute which isn’t a smooth arc since the angle is adjustable. What I do like is it’s not speed limited by a drive system. And yes, two stages are beasts. But we just do not get that much snow here. Two day later it was 55F ! Thanks for watching and commenting !

    Adding my thanks, too, for a very good demonstration and review. However, I'd be interested to know if you have tried running this blower on a gravel-and-grass driveway or if you would recommend it for such. I'm also "sold" on EGO equipment, just ended 3rd summer w/21" EGO push mower, 2nd summer w/string trimmer, 1st summer w/chainsaw, all superb in performance. I live about 30 mi. SW of CLE and, like you, get infrequent snows. For more than a decade I've loved and sworn-by my "snow sleigh" but, at age 69 now, last winters "dumps" seemed more of a strain to clear. I've seen that the SNT2114 is "recommended" for paved driveways "only" but am thinking I might be able to "lift" the front slightly while blowing or, perhaps, find a way to mount "shoes/skids" to the front-edge side of the auger compartment. Any thoughts you might have regarding this would be sincerely appreciated. Also, in very general terms, what part of OH are you in? Thanks. Colin.

      @@ohiorectec6055 Thanks for finally replying but I'll have to politely disagree with your recommendation. I bought this blower with the 5AH batteries and dual charger just before this past Thanksgiving and as of today, 27-Jan-22, I have used it twice. Long story short, IF the driveway, rock or gravel, is "well compacted" and fairly level, it is NOT difficult to hold and push the blower in a way to leave 1-2 inches of snow on top of the rock/gravel. It beats the hell out of shoveling and is almost as easy as using my snow sleigh, but the blower is a little quicker. Our Audi Quattro isn't the least bit concerned about a few inches of snow. 😁

      @@ohiorectec6055 No apology needed, I'm sure you, like most people, have more than a few "distractions" (e.g. responsibilities). Wife and I are retired and can't justify the cost of paving our 100 ft driveway and turnaround, the lava rock seems to be working well for our purposes and adds a decorative flair. I've also used the same "press-down-and-push" technique over our front lawn to clear a path for our mail carriers who have been most appreciative. I've seen a couple videos and articles in which people attached wheels or castors to the front of the SNT2114 but I think those are impractical. I'm playing around with a couple ideas I've had for quick-attach/detach skids that might make things easier to go over rock/gravel or grassy areas.

      I've got the older one for a 3-4 years now. Works great, but I think the metal auger would be better for denser snow. This one looks like it'll cut through ice mixed with snow, as well as cut the chunks of snow down into smaller bits so it should be ejected out better. Listening to the motor in the video makes me think it's not being pushed as hard as the old rubber one.

      Thanks for watching! This is the first snow blower / thrower I’ve owned. I’ve used several including single and two stage self propelled models. Yes there’s a difference. The benefit all comes down to how much snow you’re trying to move. Single stage self propelled models move too slowly if you’re only trying to clear 2-3in. We just got another 7in of snow and i still prefer the EGO due to ease of use.

    • @Wiscotac

      The difference for me, being in my 70s, when mowing or snow blowing, I have enough to push around all by myself, therefore I think middle age and younger usually never give self-propelled much of a thought because in those times it's all about, I can do anything and that might be great healthwise for those age groups. In the distant future? Not so much. :-)
      I invested in the EGO self-propelled mower years ago, and love it, and this winter due to several unforeseen circumstances, not the least of which, my best tool for maintenance on ICE and those carburetors machines, turns out to be a hammer, well that's my story and I am sticking to it. Yeah, I picked up the pricier 2-stage, love the no-thinking aspect of EV usage, and much easier on my backside. :-)

    Good review but would have a hard time paying $1000 for a single stage snow blower.

    • @ohiorectec6055
      @ohiorectec6055  2 года назад

      I see you point. However, it’s kind of a one time cost. Electricity is cheap, batteries are durable and it’s overall quieter and easier / cheaper to maintain than a gas model and anyone can run it.

      Just the auger to my knowledge. There are a few different battery options, but other than that it’s the same machine. I’ve had a few messages saying the auger can be switched which stands to reason since the design seem to be common.

    Youre using the wrong gasnin your blower then. Mine starts first pull every time. Use ethanol free gas with a fuel stabilizer. Ive never had to pull apart m blower or my mower. Just change the oil and it runs great.

    Great blower but poorly designed on the scraper bar. It will chew up the scraper bar after 2x of usage, and making it hard to push the blower. I have to improvise by adding the skid shoes on both sides of the auger box. I used the Ego skid shoes. Wow, night and day! Now, I don't have to worry about chewing up the scraper bar, and now it's easy to push the blower.
